I have a package that executes fine in BIDS. However, when calling it using xp_cmdshell it cannot find the path to the source flat file. Anyone have any suggestions?
Here is the statement:
xp_cmdshell 'dtexec /SQ NatlAcctsImport /SER CR1-SQL-01 /CONN SourceConnectionFlatFile;Q:BINATNLACCTS'
Here is the result:

I am trying to modify a function used as default value by many tables but I get the following error:
Cannot ALTER 'dbo.fn_GetDate' because it is being referenced by object '...'.
First, can someone explain me the reason behind this behavior? Why can't the function be altered??
I did the following test:
I create a table with a default value of dbo.fn_GetDate_r().
fn_GetDate_r() simply returns the value of another function fn_GetDate().
Result: I can alter fn_GetDate() without problems...
Like I said, the function I want to modify is used by many tables. Is there a simple way to alter it? The tables don't appear in the dependencies and SQL Compare doesn't seem to be able to detect and drop/recreate the constraints...
Thanks
Frantz

Is it at the package scope, AppDomain, Process, or OS/Machine scope?
We've started using SSIS from C# in a multi-threaded app and are coming up against some problems that prompted this question.
One application process, one application domain, multiple threads. Each thread is given a package to execute under the control of a manager thread. The thread instantiates a package instance, (loading the package from a file), sets the value of some of the user variables and executes it. Different threads may be given the same package name to execute, but with different values for the variables.
The problem we see is that two different package instances, when running seemingly separate instances of the same package, seem to be sharing the same Dts.Variables collection instance in a Script Task - overwriting the values of ReadWriteVariables set by the other executing package. Sometimes it will fail completely being unable to access a variable.
I'd have expected two package instances to be completely separate w.r.t. their variables - am I missing something?

Setup:
I'm using SQLCE on a VB.Net (2005) desktop applicaiton.
I have strongly typed datasets pointing to tables in the SDF.
The path to the sdf is |DataDirectory|DataQQ.sdf
Problem:
When I run my application, I have a list of context sensitive tasks that appear as buttons.
When the user steps into a control, the app retrieves a list of context tasks from the SDF and populates the buttons.
When the user pushes one of the buttons, for example "View File" the appropriate action takes place.
However, when the user enters into the next field, I get a SQLCeException telling me the path could not be found (error 25009). The Path it gives is Path = .DataQQ.sdf
It points to the task of getting data from the Context Tasks table.
The problem is, though, that it just accessed that same path and same table to populate the task list.
I've manually checked the file location in explorer as well as openning up the database in Management Studio. It exists and opens fine. But for some reason, it seems to lose the path or connection in between 2 identical calls.
I don't believe I saw this problem until after I switched TO strongly typed datasets.
Any ideas?

I am trying to use a file system task to create a directory. The error indicates that the path does not exist. But isn't that what the task is for: Creating a path (essentially a set of related folders)? Here is the path as supplied via variable:
\Computernamecommon3 Day StorageHWillamkeygrip
Anything obviously wrong?
BTW, I have no control over the fact that there are spaces in this path
Thanks in advance

Hi,
I am trying to write a desktop application using C# and .NET that can edit an SQL Server Mobile database stored on a device. The problem is no matter how I specify the data source, I get an error the path was not found. Heres the bit of the code:
string strConn = "Data Source=" + "Mobile Device\My Documents\Nutricom.sdf";
SqlCeConnection connDB = new SqlCeConnection(strConn);
connDB.Open();
And the error i get is..
The path is not valid. Check the directory for the database. [ Path = Mobile DeviceMy DocumentsNutricom.sdf ]
Everytime it thorws an error saying the path is invalid and to check the locaiton of the database. Ive tried it without the "Mobile Device" bit of the string and still nothing. The database is definately in this location.
Any help? It's driving me insane.

When trying to install Business Contact Manager (BCM) for Outlook 2007, the setup failed and I was refered to a log file in my Local Settings Temp folder. The log actually says that Business Contact Manager was installed sucessfully! BCM is supposed to install SQL Express 2005 an an instance or an instance if SQL Express is already installed. The BCM Instance did not install either when installing SQL Express with BCM or when SQL Express is installed first and then BCM is installed.
When I went into Computer Management and clicked on Services and Applications in the left panel, the error message appeared "Snap-in failed to intialize. Name: SQL Server Configuration Manager CLSID:{CA9F8727-31DF-41D2-975C-887D84903967} This message diappeared when I clicked on Services and Applications again. The other 2 are: SQL Server (MSSMLBIZ) and the other one is SQL Server (SQLEXPRESS) When I tried to start either of the last 2, the message appeared: Services "Could not start the SQL Server (MSSMLBIZ) service on Local Computer. We installed the SQL Server 2012 GUI tools, including "Upgrade Advisor," on a new virtual machine. We can connect to the old SQL Server 2008 R2 clustered databases just fine over port 1433 using SQL Server Management Studio 2012, but Upgrade Advisor is a mixed bag. Here are the steps we are taking:
- Click on "Start," "All Programs," "Microsoft SQL Server 2012," "SQL Server 2012 Upgrade Advisor"
- Fill in the server name with a valid SQL Server Network Name
- Select "SQL Server" as the only component to be analyzed
- Fill in the instance name with a valid named instance
- Use Windows Authentication (the default)
- The "SQL Server Parameters" window displays valid database names, meaning that we have a successful connection to the desired SQL Server instance at this point
- Leave all of the databased selected (the default)
- Click the "Run" button
- The "Upgrade Advisor Progress" window spins for a while and eventually generates the following error:
TITLE: mscorlib
------------------------------
The network path was not found.
------------------------------
BUTTONS:
OK
------------------------------
Why would Upgrade Advisor be able to display the database names after making a successful connection only to fail later saying that it cannot find the network path?

I have a parent package - Main.dtsx that calls a number of child packages. I also use configuration packages as I must deploy the application across multiple environments.
Main.dtsx contains a single Ccnfiguration file - Child_Packages.dtsConfig. This contains the connection strings for all the child packages.
Each child package contains a single configuration file - Main.dtsConfig that contains a superset of OLE DB connections. That is no single child package uses all of the connections contained in main.dtsConfig.
Each child package will execute independently without error. However, when called from Main.dtsx, I get the following errors:
Error: 2007-08-15 15:44:22.93
Code: 0xC001000E
Source: UserSecurity
Description: The connection "CRM" is not found. This error is thrown by Connections collection when the specific connection element is not found.
End Error

Source: UserSecurity
Description: Cannot resolve a package path to an object in the package ".Connections[CRM].Properties[ConnectionString]". Verify that the package path is valid.
End Warning
Warning: 2007-08-15 15:44:22.94

Source: UserSecurity
Description: The package path referenced an object that cannot be found: "Package.Connections[CRM].Properties[ConnectionString]". This occurs when an attempt is made to resolve a package path to an object that cannot be found.
End Warning
I have seen discussions that suggest that these errors occur where the connection in the config file is not found in the child package. Is there any way of suppressing this ?
Are there any simpler methods that allow me to change connections in each environment?
I suspect I will end up having to tailor config files for each child package, but I live in hope.

How can I delete these packages?

We are facing some issues with SSIS and thought if you could be of some help.
Actually, instead of Deploying our SSIS projects we copy the SSIS files to a different server from where we execute the SSIS Packages. The reason being, we have a Core Version of the application and this is deployed to different markets and subsequent customisations are performed in the market specific version of the Packages. The problem is although we have a Package Configuration Xml File for our Connection object, the first time when we copy the Packages, we have to manually open each of the Package and change the URL of the Xml File for Configuration. I read through some of the articles on the internet and came to know that the Package Configuration does not support relative path and only absolute path is possible.
Can you please share some of your suggestions on the above problem.

We have a main package which is calling multiple other packages. The the child packages uses parent package variables and which we are configuring using configuration file while installation of the package. Here we need to set each path while installation because there are many variables using the same path with the different file names(Different files stored in same Folder).
We want to get the main path and then if we use relative path in other variables then we need not to assign all the variable paths while installation.
How to we can get the Application path in Integration Services Package(Script Task)?
Thanks in Advance!

Hello, I need some help with installing release copies of SQL05(+SSIS) and VS05 on Win03R2. It is very frustrating when a basic install fails. I€™ve been going round and round with this. M$ support has not been of help yet.
I have a new development box for SQL05/VS05 development, and when I do a clean install of release software from MSDN: Windows Server 2003 R2 ent; SQL Server 2005 dev; Visual Studio 2005 pro I find that the "save to server" in SSIS (and other utilities that save a package) fails with a non-informative message *No Description Found* (see error text below).
To setup this box I install Win03R2 first, promote it to a Active Directory DC (the one and only DC in a test forest), then install VS05 onto the E: drive. Note, I must install VS05 first (before SQL05) so that all components get installed to the RAID5 *E:* drive. If SQL05 is installed first then VS that comes with SQL gets installed on to C: (no way I see to get around this) then the full VS05 pro gets forced to install on the C: drive.
Then I install SQL05 (with everything including SSIS). At this point every thing works fine, packages can be saved ok.
If I then install VS05 again so that all settings of VS05 are as expected of a standard VS05 install (not the SQL version) then the problem with saving packages arises.
If the error message was a little more informative, I might be able to track down the source of the problem. Please help! I have tried a bunch of things - creating credentials, proxies, using the most privileged accounts possible, etc.
Thanks, MikeC

Hi all,
I'm trying to let certain users execute an SSIS package through an SP in SQL.
I've set up a proxy account for xp_cmdshell that the other users will use to execute dtexec with, but i get this message:
Could not load package "File SystemCODA_Actuals" because of error 0x80070005.
Description: Access to the path 'C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL Server90DTSPackagesCODA_Actuals.dtsx' is denied.
When i log onto the server with the proxy account, i can navigate to that folder and open the package.
When try to execute it from the command shell:
dtexec /DTS "File SystemCODA_Actuals" /Decrypt "password" /Reporting E /SET Package.Variables[User::JobId].Value;25'
i get the same message. How come? How do i fix this? I've read somewhere that i should grant read to the package store to that user , how do i do that? Can't find that option in the tools or manuals.
Thanks in advance,

I have been reading through different posts about how to manage SSIS configuration files across multiple environments. I have seen a few that mention a solution that turns out not to really work (or maybe I€™m doing something wrong); which is what I hope to find out here.
Solutions I am working with:
1: Put the XML Configuration file in the same directory as the SSIS package and only specify the config file name when setting it up in the package. I do not specify a path to the XML Configuration file, just the config file name.
ISSUE: This works when I first create the package and test it without closing down visual studio. Even after deploying the SSIS package and the config file and moving it between environments it works as long as the working directory of the DTExec command is the same directory as the SSIS package and configuration files. The problem comes in after I have closed Visual Studio and opened it again and loaded up the SSIS package. It then gives a bunch of errors stating that it can€™t locate the configuration files€¦. If I could fix this issue, then this would be a solution that I could live with. (I would much rather use a relative path to a different directory but I€™ll live with what I can get). Can anyone solve the issue of Visual Studio 2005 not recognizing the location of the configuration files when only the configuration file name, and not the path is specified?
-- The other odd thing is that I have been able to get this to work consistently with some of my packages but not others. I'm not sure what I did to get those packages to recognize the location of the xml config file.
Thank you in advance for any input and help.

I can set the propperty of the checkpoint file to a local drive, but not to a UNC path mapping, mapping to my host server. (loop back)
Example: "I:FILEFILE1$InputArchiveOntwikkel " is possible as checkpoint file property.
S11487O$InputArchiveOntwikkel is not possible, though this is the same folder on the local host.
For data source both unc path and drive mapping are allowed. Why this difference?

Hi Im using project real framework and have BIDS installed on same server as SQL Server 2005, when I run from BIDs all
good when I run from SQL Server agent via File system --the first package that master package calls fails
I have double checked the environment variables in Project Real and all good because otherwise BIDs would have failed
and of course in each package the expression data uses @[User::RootDir] to point to the package file path
@[User::RootDir] + \LoadGroup_Dimensions_Daily.dtsx
the issue is the package under SQL Agent is ignoring @[User::RootDir] + \ and finding an old package path somewhere in Bids SLN metadata
Any clues how can refresh the metadata of the package for deployment
thanks in advance

The other 2 are: SQL Server (MSSMLBIZ) and the other one is SQL Server (SQLEXPRESS) When I tried to start either of the last 2, the message appeared: Services "Could not start the SQL Server (MSSMLBIZ) service on Local Computer. Error 3: The system cannot find the path specified. Under Program Files/Microsoft SQL Server/MSSGL.1 folder is mostly empty. So, it seems like the Path in the Registry is not valid and that nothing is being installed in the MSSQL.1 folder. If so, how do I fix this?
How do I get the BCM SQL instance to install and run properly? what do the messages in Services mean and how do I resolve these.
Thank you!
Gary

I have the following error when I try to execute a DTS package.
All the package is doing, is a bit of WScript to map a drive (need it for other packages), so:
[code]
Function Main()
Dim WshNetwork
Set WshNetwork = WScript.CreateObject("WScript.Network")
WshNetwork.RemoveNetworkDrive "S:"
WshNetwork.MapNetworkDrive "S:", "\myserverfolder1folder2folder3folder4"
Main = DTSTaskExecResult_Success
End Function
[/code]
If I copy it out to a .vbs file and execute it logged in as the SQL Agent profile, it works. Execute the package under a job, or just execute it, it fails with the above error.
Any ideas?

Hi,
In a custom task I have a property of type Hashtable. This property gets changed by a custom UI. After changing the value and closing the UI, the Hashtable is properly filled during investigation in the validate() method.
Now saving the package and inspecting the XML file of the package, there is only this entry:
<DTS:ObjectData><InnerObject><PromotionCodes Type="12" Value=""/></InnerObject></DTS:ObjectData>
So it seems, that the value is empty and there is no further data to the object. Trying to reopen the saved package, the opening fails with something like (Had to translate it my own from german):
Error loading '<PackageName>' : Error loading a task. The contact information for the task is ''. This problem occurs on an error during task loading.
There should be a out of the box possibility to save collections or do you have to implement Load/Save XML your own if you have complex datatypes as properties? As the package has the element of the property included (but empty), it seems it tries to save it.
Anyone a hint. Anybody occuring the same behavior?
Thanks T.
