Hi,
I am not sure this is the correct place to post this
question, but here it is. I am trying to pass some parameters to SSIS
from a report using the report parameter, then SSIS will create the
datareaderdest and return to the report to use.
Anyone have any idea, guidance or leads please share it out. Thanks in advance.

Hello All!
I have two questions to ask in this one thread. I would appreciate any feedback.
1. Is it possible to create GUI from SSIS using macro so that it can display forms or dialogs? If so how can I create a form that can be used to pass the parameters for the execution of the SSIS??
2. Is it possible to pass parameter(s) to SSIS? If yes, how can we do it...Please provide me with any example.
I wait to hear from you!
Thanks,
Niben

I'd like to pass a parameter value from a ASP.NET application to an SSIS package. My SSIS package pulls data from SQL and loads it a flat file based on the parameter value.
Is this possible?

Hi
I have migrated a DTS 2000 package to an SSIS package.
Half of it works fine, when stored procedures are called that don't use parameters they work fine on SSIS.
However when a SP is called with a parameter it can't find the parameter name ?
I have mapped the parameter under "parameter mappings" , the parameter is a simple date value
which is created at the beginning of the SSIS package in a SQL task.
it is saved as a global variable , and i have mapped this as the parameter , yet it still can't find the param. name ?
any sugestions ?

I have a SSIS package that imports (appends) data to a SQL table from an ODBC source. This package is run from within a VS project.
I'd like to pass a parameter to this package to limit the records it imports. I have seen some discussion of this but I need a detailed step-by-step or a good working example. Specifically:
1. How to get the parameter to the package to begin with. The VB function that runs the SSIS only passes parameters to the stored procedure that executes the SSIS.
2. How to refer to the parameter value in the SQL statement of the data reader object in the SSIS package. Instead of saying 'Select * from table1' it needs to say 'Select * from table1 WHERE field1 = @passedparam'

Hi pals,
I have a small problem in parameter mapping for Execute SQL Task.
I am using a delete statement with 2 conditions.
Followed by another Execute SQL Task which contains commit statement.
delete from tname where c1 = ? and c2 =?
where c1 is number(4) datatype and c2 is of varchar2(20) datatype in oracle.
The connection manager i am using is ORacle OLE DB provider.
I am passing 2 global variables i.e g_v1 of Int32 and g_v2 of String Type.
In the parameter mapping of the Executing SQL task, i am mapping these 2 variables for
c1 and c2 and changed the datatypes inside parameter mapping as Numeric for c1 and Varchar for c2.
I also set the property as ByPassPrepare = True.
When i am executing the package i getting INVALID NUMBER ERROR.
i believe the SSIS is unable to perform the implict datatype converison.
For the next run, i changed the g_v1 varible datatype to Double and also i changed the parameter mapping for c1 as Doble datatype.
This time it is working fine. I can see the Green signal for the 2 SQL Tasks.
But when i connected to Oracle check the count in the table, the data is not getting deleted.
Also,
I set the property RetainSameConnection = TRUE for oracle connection manager.
I am not able to trace this logical error.
The same is working fine in my local machine.
But i am facing the problem when i deployed the same on the client machine.
Is there any problem with parameter mapping?
What should be equialent Datatype for Oracle NUMBER datatype that should be used inside the SSIS package while declaring the global variable and
inside the parameter mapping.
Is there any way to see/look the sql statement which is formed after Parameter Subsititution inside the log file?
Can we print the SQL Statement Formed by the Execute SQL task inside a script task ?
Any help would be greatly appreciated !
Thanks in advance

I need to be able to call a SSIS package with a specific parameter for one of the variables. Basically the package needs to be triggered from an application (.NET, C#) with a specific value.
The package is stored in the SQL Server (in Stored packages).
I have seen the article on dtexec and the SET flag, however we do not want to turn on xp_cmdshell on the SQL server due to the security implications, and that seems to be the only way to call dtexec
I have seen another article that says you can have a job invoke a package then have a specific user granted permission to the job, but that doesn't address how to set the parameter/variable for the package.
There are actually some other steps that technically need to run using the same parameter, so ideally if I could have a stored procedure call the SSIS package, then the subsequent toher stored procedures using the sent in parameter that would be great. I just can't figure out how to do this securely (as xp_cmdshell is not considered secure).
Thanks for any comments.

Hi all.
we have SSIS package which runs under SQL Job.
Now we need to modify this package in order to have input parameter
which we want to setup in the "Set Value" Tab of SQL Server 2005 SQL Job |Edit Step |Option window.
Could anybody give me in details how-to setup Global Variable (or something else) inside SSIS Package in order to create input parameter of the package?
I also appreciate an advice how exactly we should assign value to input parameter of SSIS Package inside SQL Job Set Value Tab (example?).
Thank you,

Passing a date parameter in a stored procedure through OLEDB Source (Data flow task). We have a multipurpose stored proc in which one of the many expected parameter is a date. It keeps giving me the following error:Description: "Operand type clash: int is incompatible with date"- although there is no integer.
One way to fix it would be change the data type from date to datetime in proc but I can't do that since it is multi-purpose proc. I didn't find anything good on the net.

Hello! I would like to write a value from a column to a parameter in SSIS with the Execute SQL task. The problem is that I will never get a value for the parameter.
You can recreate the problem with the AdventureWorksDW sample database.
1. Drop an execute SQL task in the control flow
2. Set the connection to the AdventureWorksDw database
3. Write this in the SQL Statement box Select Max(FullDateAlterNateKey) as LastDate
From DimTime
4. Set the resultset to single Row
5. Under result set assign LastDate as the Result Name and create a parameter with a default date.
6. Execute the task, that will finish succesfully but the value of the parameter in 5 have not changed.
I have tried to change the scope to both the package level and the task level without any success. The value of the variable is still the default value. I have also tried a string variable without sucess.
Any ideas?
Kind Regards

I have created a SSIS package which runs every hour from my Machine. First part of my Package runs a Execute SQl Task and result set (single row, single column) is a comma separated list of Unique Record Ids which have been updated in last hour. (i.e. FJ1,FJ2,FJ3) I capture this result in a variable and when I User script taks to display the value of this property, it appears as it should be.I pass this Variable to Execute SQL Task on Different ODBC Server using a Stored Procedure. My SQL Statement is as Following
call DeleteRowsById(?)
And then I have assigned my Variable (as SQL_Longvarchar) to Parameter 1 in Parameter mapping Section. (ParameterSize is -1) but it doesnt delete the records from the table. (I ran the SP manually in Workbench and it works as expected) Then i had an Idea and
as part of my SP I started making entries in a Temp table just to see whats coming up as variable. Insert in the table shows only first Charecter from the variable and which is why its not deleting any records.I can not find why my variable is being truncated.

In several weeks of effort and research I cannot locate any method to get this to work and need some help. We've loaded the most recent version of the Microsoft OLE DB (Feb 2007) and have located several discussion threads on these and other forums that all point to the same conclusion... you cannot use this to talk to a UDB/DB2 instance on Sun Solaris unless you are pulling a full table. Any custom SQL will not work. So, I'm trying to setup a custom query which in most cases is to determine a date to use in the filter (where clause) and the rest of the query is static. The DataReader source does not support parameters and also appears to not support SQL command from variable. Any thoughts on how to get this to work without having to read the full table and pass the data to subsequent filters within the package???
Thanks

To set the scene I am using SQL 2012, in project deployment mode (SSIS Catalog rather than file system).I have setup an SSIS package to run a stored procedure which exports data for the last hour to a .tsv file and then FTP's the file to some other location via a sql agent job - This all works fine. However, I can see there may be a requirement to run the package with dates that need to be set i.e. in the event of a lost file of some other reason the package has not run and missed some of its hourly slots and the customer requires the files to be resent.
The stored procedure I am using has parameters for "DateOverride" - boolean), "start" and "end" dates (datetime) with defaults set "0" for "DateOverride" and null for the "Start" and "End" dates, I have built logic into the procedure which sets the dates if the parameters are null (as in the above to an hour before now). What I would like to be able to do (and this is to make it user friendly for support staff) is to be able to set parameters/variables in SQL agent with "DateOverride" set to "1" and the the dates I would like to be sent to the stored procedure "Start" and "End" parameters.
I did try using the parameters in SSIS which worked well when the values were true or false (0,1) but didn't work at all for the dates. If I left the dates as I had set them is SSIS it worked, but if I changed them (even if it was just changing the hour) the job errored/crashed and corrupted the job step leaving me the ability to only delete it.

I've created a varible timeStamp that I want to feed into a stored procedure but I'm not having any luck. I'm sure its a simple SSIS 101 problem that I can't see or I may be using the wrong syntax
in Execute SQL Task Editor I have
conn type -- ole db
connection -- some server
sql source type -- direct input
sql statement -- exec testStoredProc @timeStamp = ?
if I put a value direclty into the statement it works just fine: exec testStoredProc '02-25-2008'
This is the syntax I found to execute the procedure, I don't udnerstand few things about it.
1. why when I try to run it it changes it to exec testStoredProc @timeStamp = ? with error: EXEC construct or statement is not supported , followed by erro: no value given for one or more requreid parameters.
2. I tired using SQL commands exec testStoredProc @timeStamp and exec testStoredProc timeStamp but nothing happens. Just an error saying unable to convert varchar to datetime
3. Also from SRS I usually have to point the timeStamp to @timeStamp and I dont know how to do that here I thought it was part of the parameter mapping but I can't figure out what the parameter name and parameter size should be; size defaults to -1.
Thank you, please help.

I am using a OLE DB source task and i want to setup a parameter in the select statement. Is this possible and how would this be done. I know you can pass a parameter in the where clause like:
select id, lname, fname, startDate, endDate from Employee where id = ?
How would i set startDate and endDate as parameters as i would like to be able to change these parameters when running the package. I would like to set dates in the select statement as parameters like how you would in the where clause.
Select id, lname, fname, ? startDate, ? endDate, from employee where id = ?
I would like to be able to change these dates without having to go in to the package and hard code it back in there and then deploy.
The package uses a OLE DB source to Flatfile Destination.

Here's the set up:
ForEach Loop Container:
Collection: Foreach File Enumerator
Variable Mappings: Variable = User::DailyFile, Index = 0
Execute SQL Taks:
Connection: OLEDB
ResultSet: None
SQLStatement: EXEC spGetFile ?
ParameterMapping: VariableName = USER::DailyFile, Direction = Input, DataType=VARCHAR, Parameter = 0
This works great it iterates through a file and looks at all the files checks to see if they have been loaded into the db table, if not it loads the file.
My spGetFile has RETURN 1 if a file is loaded and RETURN 0 if the file is not loaded.
Now I add a new variable:
Step 1: add to Foreach Loop Container
ForEach Loop Container Name = Return, Scope = ForEachLoop, Data Type= Int32 Value=0
Step 2: Add to Execute SQL Task:
VariableName = User:Return, Direction = ReturnValue, DataType = Long, ParameterName =1
This produces the following error:
~~"Multiple-step OLE DB operation generated errors. Check each OLE DB status value, if available. No work was done.". Possible failure reasons: Problems with the query, "ResultSet" property not set correctly, parameters not set correctly, or connection not established correctly.~~
I tried with an ADO.Net connection ... works until I add the ReturnValue parameter ...
Any ideas??
Thanks

I am working with SQL Server 2012. I have deployed a SSIS project that has 2 packages in it. The package connection manager (Test) uses an expression to evaluate one of the Project parameter value (TestConnectionString) to set its ConnectionString property.
This works fine in a Dev environment. However when deployed to UAT, it keeps failing with the error:
PackageExport:Error: The result of the expression
"@[$Project::TestConnectionString]" on property
"Package.Connections[Test].Properties
[ConnectionString]" cannot be written to the property. The expression was evaluated, but cannot be set on the
property.
I can not seem to find what the issue could be. I have come across [URL] .... where it says: "If the package contains project parameters, the package execution may fail." but offers no solution.

we can assign one parameter value for each excecution of [SSISDB].[catalog].[set_object_parameter_value] by calling this catalog procedure..

2.What are the options to pass multiple parameter values to ssis package through stored procedure.?

Hi All,
Parameter passing in SSIS 2005 sometimes appears to be a cumbursome task. I have been digging into this topic for quite some time and here i note down some simple steps to demonstrate parameter passing at Package level.
(1) Create a SSIS project using Business Intelligence 2005 Or VS 2005.
(2) Create datasource (.ds) and Data Source View as required.
(3) A default SSIS Package by the name Package.dtsx is created. Double click this and you are shown tabs for Control Flow, Data Flow, Event Handlers, Package Explorer. On the Control Flow, drap and drop Execute SQL Task from Control Flow Items in the toolbar.
(4) Lets now create a variable at Package level. Right click anywhere in the control flow box (not on the Task created in Step 3 above). Click on the Variables on the context menu displayed. Variables window appears on the left of the screen. Click the Add Variable box in this window to create a variable. Name it var1 (or whatever you may like), Scope as Package, DataType as String and Value as MyValue. This is only the default value.
(5) Now let us edit the SQL Task created in Step 3. Double on it, on the General tab you can change its Name, Description. Set ResultSet as None. We shall proceed to execute a stored procedure by name MySPName and pass it a parameter. Set ConnectionType as OLE DB. Select the connection you creates in step 2. Set SQLSourceType as Direct input. SQLStatement as MySPName ? . Note the ? mark after the name of the stored procedure. This is important to accept the variable value (var1) created in Step 4.
(6) Select Parameter Mapping tab now. Click on Add button. Select the Variable Name as User::var1. This is the user created variable of Step 4. Select Direction as Input, DataType as Varchar and Parameter Name as @var1. Click on OK now.
(7) This sets up the basic of parameter passing. Compile the project to verify everything works. Right Click on the SQL Task and select Execute Task. This will execute the package taking default value of the variable. This can be used along with dtexec command with /set option to pass the parameter at command prompt.
