Passing The Xml Configuration File To The Package As An Input Parameter While Executing The Package

Feb 2, 2007

Hi,

I am planning to develop a single package that will download files from ftp server, move the files to internal file server and upload it in the database. But I want to run this package for multiple ftp file providers. For each provider the ftp server might be different and the transformation to upload the files into a database table might be different.

So can I create a single package and then multiple configuration files (xml), which will contain the details fo the ftp file providers and then pass the xml file as a parameter while executing the package. The reason being that the timings of fetching the files is different for each ftp file provider and hence cannot be combined into one.

Is this possible?

Thanks for your help.

Passing SSIS Package Variable To Stored Procedure As Parameter

Feb 25, 2008

I've created a varible timeStamp that I want to feed into a stored procedure but I'm not having any luck. I'm sure its a simple SSIS 101 problem that I can't see or I may be using the wrong syntax

in Execute SQL Task Editor I have
conn type -- ole db
connection -- some server
sql source type -- direct input
sql statement -- exec testStoredProc @timeStamp = ?

if I put a value direclty into the statement it works just fine: exec testStoredProc '02-25-2008'

This is the syntax I found to execute the procedure, I don't udnerstand few things about it.

1. why when I try to run it it changes it to exec testStoredProc @timeStamp = ? with error: EXEC construct or statement is not supported , followed by erro: no value given for one or more requreid parameters.

2. I tired using SQL commands exec testStoredProc @timeStamp and exec testStoredProc timeStamp but nothing happens. Just an error saying unable to convert varchar to datetime

3. Also from SRS I usually have to point the timeStamp to @timeStamp and I dont know how to do that here I thought it was part of the parameter mapping but I can't figure out what the parameter name and parameter size should be; size defaults to -1.

Thank you, please help.

Passing A Boolean To A Stored Procedure

Mar 17, 1999

I am using VB6 and SQL Server 6.5. I want to pass a boolean to a SQL Server stored procedure. The code below is the main part that tries to pass 'True' to the stored procedure, but an error occurs when the line rst.Open.... is reached ? The error is as follows: The application is using arguments that are of the wrong type, are out of acceptable range, or are in conflict with one another.

I have tried putting 'True' directly in the rst.Open... line instead of assigning it to a boolean variable but the same error occurs.

The stored procedure works fine when run in SQL Server.

Can anyone help ? Please.

complete = True
Set rst = New ADODB.Recordset
rst.CursorType = adOpenForwardOnly
rst.LockType = adLockReadOnly
rst.Open "usp_CompleteUID_sel (" & complete & ")", UIDCon, , , adCmdStoredProc

Do While Not rst.EOF
lst_pastUIDs.AddItem (rst.Fields(1))
rst.MoveNext
Loop
rst.Close

Passing Boolean To Stored Proc As SQLDBtype.bit Not Working

Mar 17, 2004

Hi I was hoping that someone might be able to help me with this.

I'm trying to figure out why my VB.net code below generates 0 or 1 but doesn't insert it when I can execute my stored procedure with: exec sp 0

myParm = myCommand.Parameters.Add("@bolProMembCSNM", SqlDbType.Bit)
myParm.Value = IIf(CBool(rblProMembCSNM.SelectedItem.Value) = True, 1, 0)

I've tried everything I used to use with Classic ASP and am stumped now.
Any ideas? I will have to do this for numerous controls on my pages.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Boolean Parameter

Aug 29, 2007

Hi,

I have a Summary report and a Detail (drillthrough) report.
the summary report displays.

Summary report

Code Snippet
Adult | Male | Count
-----------------------------
Yes | Yes | 50
Yes | No | 9
No | Yes | 20
No | No | 50
------------------------------
| 129

When the user clicks on the hightlighted count it links to the Details report displaying each of the records referenced.
The detail report uses 2 boolean parameters Adult & Male, this works perfectly for the first 4 lines displayed, however if the user clicks on the total value to display all the records, i'm unable to provide the NULL value.

Any ideas?

Boolean Default Parameter

Nov 2, 2007

Hi Folks,

I'm having a problem showing my boolean default parameter on report server in our test environment.

The report server shows my boolean parameter with a yes and no radio button. I assigned my boolean parameter with a 'No' default. The default shows and runs fine when I run the report within Visual Studio.(I hope I'm using the correct terminology.) However, on the report server the 'No' radio button is not checked by default. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks in advance for your assistance.

Filtering Data Using A Boolean Parameter

Apr 24, 2008

Hello, I am trying to use a boolean parameter to filter data in a table, but there is something I am missing.

Basically I want something like this:
I have a boolean parameter, "EP", and I have a filter set on my table as:

Expression Operator Value
=Fields!REFERRAL_SOURCE.Value = IIF (Parameters!EP.Value, "1297", ????)

Using the filter tab, I can't specify an expression for the 'Operator' so I was trying to work it out using either '=' or 'like'. What needs to go into the ???? in order for the referral source to be "not 1297" (i.e. the inverse of the filter)?

Or, am I completely missing an easy way to do this?

Thanks.

SQL Server 2012 :: Default Value For Boolean Parameter

Sep 23, 2015

I have got a stored procedure with a parameter on a boolean field. When the parameter is passed down I must retrieve records according to the boolean value. That is if it is true retrieving records with the true in that field, if it is false retrieving records with false. And if no parameters is passed down just retrieve all records either with true or false. I have done something similar with integer fields and it works but in that case I wasn't able to make it working.

See at the following sample I am expecting when executing the 3rd time my below to return 4 and it returns 0

CREATE TABLE #temp
( Id int, Name char(30), YesNo bit )
INSERT INTO #temp (Id, Name,YesNo)
Select 1, 'a', 0
INSERT INTO #temp (Id, Name,YesNo)

WHERE Clause Boolean - Different Results Depending On Entered Parameter

Jan 13, 2015

This is for Microsoft Server SQL 2012.

I'm trying to create a WHERE clause that will have different results depending on a parameter that is entered. For example, if you put in a number, it will only calculate the rows where the column ID matches that number. However, if you put in 0, which doesn't exist in that column ID, it will instead calculate all the data in the table.

So the below would be a very basic idea of what I'm trying to do, but I'm not sure how to do it with proper syntax.

WHERE IF ID=0, THEN do this
ELSE do this AND ID=#

Gridview - SqlDatasource - How Do You Get All Values For A Like Text Parameter Or A Boolean Field When Filtering?

Passing Execute DTS Package Result (success/failure) To Calling SSIS Package

Mar 6, 2008

I have a SSIS job, one of the last steps it performs is to execute a SQL 2000 DTS package. This has to be done as a SQL 2000 DTS package as it is performing rebuilds of SQL 2000 Analysis Services dimensions and cubes. We've found that when the DTS fails the SSIS job is happily completing showing as a success, we would prefer to know it went wrong.

As far as I'm aware SSIS merely starts the DTS off and doesn't care about it's result. I've taken a look in to turning on the logging for the execute DTS package and thought that the ExecuteDTS80PackageTaskTaskResult would give me the answer I need...but is merely written to the log not available as an event-handler. It also looks like it is not safe to put a SQL task in as the next item to go look at the SQL 2000 system tables to look at the log for the DTS package as the SSIS documentation warns that the DTS package can continue to run after the execute DTS package task has ended.

Ideally I want any error raised within the DTS package to cascade up to be an error in the SSIS job, I can then handle it appropriately. I cannot find a way to do this. Is there a way?

If not, can anyone suggest how in the remainder of the SSIS tasks I can be sure that the DTS has completed before I start any other tasks that will check for the SQL 2000 log of its execution?

Passing Variables From One DTS Package To Another DTS Package

May 22, 2002

I want to loop through a recordset of email addresses, and for each value in the recordset, I want to perform a set of task which includes creating an Excel spreadsheet and emailing it through to those email addresses.

I have 2 DTS package.

Package 1 - This contains an ActiveXScript task. The purpose of this package is to do the looping through of the recordset, and passing the email address variable to package 2.

Package 2 - Receives the email address from package 1. Package 2 contains the creating Excel spreadsheet and emailing it through to the recipients function.

I am having difficulty passing the variable from package 1 to package 2.

The code I have to date for the ActiveXScript task in package 1 is:
'************************************************* *********************
' Visual Basic ActiveX Script
'************************************************* ***********************

Function Main()

Dim oPackage
Dim oStep
Dim oTask
Dim oCustTask
Dim oGlobal

'Initialise package
Set oPackage = CreateObject("DTS.Package2")

Set oStep = oPackage.Steps.New
oStep.Name = "TestStep"
Set oTask = oPackage.Tasks.New ("DTSExecutePackageTask")

Set oCustTask = oTask.CustomTask
oCustTask.Name = "TestCustTask"
oStep.TaskName = oCustTask.Name
oPackage.Steps.Add oStep
oCustTask.FileName = "C:TempVeraTest1.dts"
oPackage.Tasks.Add oTask

set oGlobal = oPackage.GlobalVariables.New("CurrentAirlineCode")
oGlobal.value = "SIA"
oPackage.GlobalVariables.Add oGlobal

'Execute package
oPackage.Execute

Main = DTSTaskExecResult_Success

End Function

This does not work. Can anyone please help?

Thanks very much in advance.

Passing Parameter To SP Using IN

Jan 18, 2002

Hi,

I have a stored proc as follows:

Create stored procedure sp_test
@Cno nvarchar (1000) AS
SELECT * FROM Contracts WHERE Cno IN (@Cno)

How do I actually pass the parameters to the stored proc?

sp_test "'cn01','cn02','cn03','cn04'" doesn't work.

In VB.NET this doesn't work either:
dim s as string = "'cn01','cn02','cn03','cn04'"
cmd.parameters.add(new sqlparameter("@Cno",nvarchar,1000))
cmd.parameters("@Cno").value = s

I don't want to parse the string inside the proc and then Exec the parsed string.

Passing A Parameter Value

Apr 9, 2008

Hi ,

I have this situation,I need to store results of a Select Count(*) from TableA to a parameter and only if the value of the count(*) is greater than 50,000,a notification mail would be sent out to the table owner.Currently this is what I have done:
1) Use SQL task to include "Select Count(*) from TableA"
2) In parameter mapping tab of SQL Task, define the following
Parameter name : Table::Count
Direction: Input
Data Type: Numeric
Parameter Name : @Count
3) I have connected the SQL Task to a Send Mail Task [ Only If @count>50 000, then a mail should be sent out]
4) The constraints has been set as
Evaluation Operation : Expression and Constraints
Value: Success
Expression : @Count >"50000"

In SSIS tab > Variable
I have set the following
Variable Name : Count
DataType : Int32

Can someone advise me where I am going wrong, as when I execute the SQL Task turns greens and ends.Even when the count of tableA is greater than 50 000, no mails I sent out[send mail task does not get executed]

Thank You in Advance

Aspx Vb Sql Parameter Passing

Hello,
Can someone kindly point out what is wrong with the following code file. I'm trying to:
- fill a dropdown from a db on page load (this works!)
- when user selects from the list and hits a button, pass the dropdown value to a second query
- use the second query to make another call to the db and fill a data grid

In the code below, if I swap an actual value (eg '1005') into the command and comment out the .Parameter.Add statements, the dategrid is filled sucessfully. Otherwise, when the button is pressed, nothing is displayed.

Thanks

PS comments about my coding approach are welcome - I'm new to aspx...
