Pb Fail Over Automatic With One Instance Alias With Data Mirroring
Oct 25, 2006
Hello,
I've got a question about failover with the database mirroring.
I have 3 servers, 2 with SQL 2005 and 1 with SQL Express as witness.
After getting some problems to install database mirroring with Windows authentification, i had to create an authentification by certificate.
All goes well but my problem is about my primary instance SQL alias.
The alias on the primary doesn't follow on the secondary when the primary is down.
I've searched on forums and in the internet SQL web sites, but i didn't find anything.
I create another alias on the secondary but i don't know how to modify it in T-SQL...
I would like to know if there's any solution to modify an SQL instance alias by transact-SQL? or if anyone has already install on its servers, a fail over automatic with one instance alias with data mirroring in T-SQL?
We are having one Primary server, one witness server and one Mirroring server. All three servers depends on the port numbers, as primary server port number is open and witness server listens to that port number, if any failover happens to the Primary server automatically the witness server takeover all the databases and sends it to Mirroring server. Now the problem is what is about the applications?
For example applications are using databases how should they interact with the databases in failover situations? Suppose, if we think we can give some connection strings to the applications it may interact with databases from mirroring server, but how to give the connection strings to the applications?
I have got one code for it, Data source = sqlAinst1; failover partner = sqlBinst1; initial catalog = DBMtest; Intergrated Security = True? what do you think of this code? mirr And one more issue is if we are having some thousands of applications running, do we need to give the above code for each application?
We have a two node activepassive SQL Server 2000 cluster SP2 running on Window 2000 advanced server SP2. Everything is working fine including failover. Today we migrated over our 7.0 databases to the SQL cluster and they attached fine and upgraded fine but we would like to shutdown the 7.0 server and bring up the clustered SQL Server under the old name. We will be running 3 instances of SQL Server 2000 on the Cluster so at least 2 of these will be named instances like this: "Virtual serverinstance". Is it possible to create an alias for this SQL Server so that we could access the server under the original name of the server??? Thanks!!! Bruce
I am new to this forum and new to SQL, hope someone can help me. TIA
I have SQL 2000 running on the windows 2000 server. The program reside on the E drive and the data reside on the D drive, my system files drive C got corrupted and gave me the blue screen of death, so I had to reload it from back up, but in doing so, my SQL "Local" default instance fail to load after I got the server back up and running. My other instances are running fine except for the Local. Is their a way to bring that back? or do I have to reload SQL default instance ?
I am trying to setup a client alias to connect to a named instance on another server.

I have set up the alias on the server and as expected it works. On the client side I have used the SQL Server Client Network Utility to configure the client side alias but no luck
I am using TCP/IP with a specific port ..
By the way the SQL is SQL Server 2012 Ent and the O/S is Windows 2012 R2 minshell
Hi, i am working with SMO object, At the time of accessing remote(LAN) database server I encountered the following message: "MirroringPartnerInstance" : Undefined error.
I m not able to figure out whats the exact problem is..
i had gone through the following link too but doesn't make any sense to me : msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/microsoft.sqlserver.management.smo.database.mirroringpartnerinstance.aspx
All i understand is i need to set some property of mirroring partner.
Does any on have any idea how to resolve this problem
I'm looking at a setup where they have server1 and server2 in a mirroring relationship with automatic failover.Â
Server1 is the principalThey are using transactional replication to replicate asingle databse to server3 is AWS.Distribution database is on Server1All Agents (log reader, snapshot, distributor) run on Server1Server2 has not been set up for replication...My understanding is that in this set up you would normallly place the distribution database on a separate server and enable publication on the mirror, Server2.
What happens if they failover? Replication would stop, and presumably records added while the mirror is the active database would not be marked for replication? How would they recover? Failback and reinintialize
Can someone explain what does this mean? This is from http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/sql/2005/dbmirror.mspx
<quote>However, all these techniques for coordinating client redirection with a database mirroring have an important limitation. Database mirroring occurs only at the database level, not the server level. Be careful if your application relies on querying several databases on a server, or uses multi-part object names to query across several databases. When several databases reside on one server, and they are mirrored to a standby server, it is possible that one of several databases might fail over to the standby but the others remain on the original server. In that case, you might need one connection per database that you are querying, so that you do not attempt cross-database queries on a standby server where only one database is a principal and the remaining are mirrors.</quote>
Also I read somewhere that if one mirrored DB fails, all other mirrored DB should also be transferred to the mirror.
For example: Let's say Srv1 (principle) and Srv2 (mirror) and Srv3(witness) are SQL servers with only default instances. The SQL instance has 4 DBs (DB1, DB2, DB3, DB4) and all of them are mirrored to Srv2.
An ASP.NET application has four seperate connection strings like: objConn1 --> Data Source=Srv1;Failover Partner=Srv2;Initial Catalog=DB1;Integrated Security=True; objConn1.connect();
objConn2 --> Data Source=Srv1;Failover Partner=Srv2;Initial Catalog=DB2;Integrated Security=True; objConn2.connect();
objConn3 --> Data Source=Srv1;Failover Partner=Srv2;Initial Catalog=DB3;Integrated Security=True; objConn3.connect();
objConn4 --> Data Source=Srv1;Failover Partner=Srv2;Initial Catalog=DB4;Integrated Security=True; objConn4.connect();
If DB2 failsover to Srv2 (mirror), why should all other DBs be failedover?
I have to mirror 3 DBs on my sql server instance . I have restored there full backups and log backups on mirror.I have also created endpoints on principal and mirror using default ports 5022 and 5023.
know if i can use the same endpoint for the databases on principal instance ?
I've read here at [URL] that with 32 bit it's recommended to only have 10 database mirrors per instance.  However, is there a limit for 64 bit SQL Server 2012?
We're having a problem where we have about 300+ databases and now any new db's we add are timing out when it comes to setting up mirroring and am wondering if this is limited by the instance.
Communications to the remote server instance 'TCP://<mirror_server_neme>:5022' failed before database mirroring was fully started. The ALTER DATABASE command failed. Retry the command when the remote database is started.
This problem is only in production database any testing database include adventureworks mirroring sucessfuly. Why is problem:?
We will be moving 2 different databases (SS2005 & SS2008) to a new SS2014 SQL Server.  Currently our codes looks something like Server1DBInstance1... & Server2DBInstance2... Is it possible to move the objects from these 2 instances to Server3DBInstance3 and then use an alias to reference the objects?  Or does Server3 need to have DBInstance1 & DBIstance2?  Basically, is the alias just for the database or for the instance too?  Can I create an alias "Server1DBInstance1' on Server3DBInstance3 and assign objects to that alias?
Hello guys! I am relavtively new to ASP.NET programming ang was just starting out on my first project. I am using ASP.NET2.0 technology by using Visual Web Developer 2005 Express Edition and of course with SQL 2005 Express Edition. I would like to develop a database for our IP addresses, so one field of my table in a SQL data is the field for IP addresses.I would like to write a program wherein after clicking the button, that field will be automatically filled up with IP addresses (e.g, from 192.168.0.0 to 192.168.0.255).How do I accomplish this kind of dynamic filling up of fields? Thanks a lot!
I just got sql 2005. Can someone point me in the right direction on getting started importing data. I need to be able to load ascii data into SQL 2005 on a weekly basis. This ascii file will have the same data structure but data will change weekly.
I have heard to do this automatically (basically with a click of a button) you should use a DTS package. I also see this SSIS. I am trying to understand what to use for this import process. I would really appreciate any help on this. Thanks.
I'm going to be setting up DB mirroring between two SQL Server 2005 boxes. Since these are on two different servers, can the instance names be the same? Is there any reason NOT to do so if the mirror server is going to be used exclusively for DB mirroring?
For example: if the my primary DB is located on SERVER1INSTANCE1, can the mirror be SERVER2INSTANCE1 or do the instance names have to be different even though they're on different boxes.
I want to make a package in SSIS for automatic process of my data cube providing some log informations (two INSERT statements to my log table with actual date and result of operation succesful/unsuccesful). I tried to set data source to analysis services, I found my cube but I don't where I can add my cube to project and how can I desingn it. Can anybody tell me how to??? Thanks
I have a database that I am setting up in SQL Server 2005. Initially, I am doing very large imports of data. Every time I run an import, I am having the increase the size of my transaction logs, and now they are approaching 2 GB. Should these be purging themselves? I have to keep increasing the max size of the log so that I can get my data in. While this will work for now, it is not a long term solution, because I can see the log size growing quite large and the amount of space on the server obviously isn't infinite. Is there a setting that I can change so they will automatically purge? If not, how do I purge this information myself?
I have two tables. When my user completes an insert of data in table (1), I would like the second "related" table (2) to be automatically populated with defaults. Is this possible? My logical approach to this is: 1. Build a handler for the OnInsert event of the first table 2. In the handler, call the Insert Command on the SQLDataSource for the second table with the defaults specified in the DataSource. What I'm not sure how to do is Step 2 or whats the best way. How do I call the Insertcommand programmatically for a DataSource? Or, is there a better way such as some kind of traditional hardwired SQL insert statement like in classical ASP? Or is there a way to programmatically call a stored procedure and if so is the 3rd approach the best way?
How exactly would someone do this best? It seems this would be a rather common thing someone might need to do.
Hey everyone, trying to set up a SQL Query to run on a pre-determinedbatch cycle that will automatically dump out specific table data to a..csv file so that users can load the file into Excel right away, withno manipulation or modification. We are running SQL Server 2000. I am a novice SQL user. Anysuggestions?
I try to import data from other database ( that data base is in other country ) and insert into my table .It's succeeded normally but a few day ago it sometime fail .It's seem the data were selected but can't insert into my table . I have already checked filed name and field properties of both source and destination table .It''s same .The error message is below.

Hi,i have a problem about the CLIENT-SERVER architecture procedure.Well , i have an application in VB with ADO connection to a table in adatabase on a SQLSERVER 7.0 .Is possible to do that when a client updates a data in a field of my table ,the SERVER communicates to all clients connected to my table that this dataare updated , without the client do anything , for example without aclient-timer to control the data in the server ???thanks
My DTS package for importing data from oversea's database fail becasue it use many time ( more 2 hours ) . It will be complete When the run duration was used less than 2 hours and fail when the run duration was used more than 2 hours . If we eleminate to improve network , there is any way to do ?
I have a report that uses some embedded custom code. The embedded custom code is a function that execute some sql query on a sql server database.Everything works fine in Visual studio. The report gets deployed on the server successfully, however when running the report from report manager i get the following error message :

I am likely to work on moving our ETL system from SQL server 2000 to SQL server 2005. Code is being re written. I wanted to know from anyones previous experience like what kind of activity/data can cause a package to fail. I need to check that a certain package fails and logs error to the server error log and stops. And also check that a certain package fails, logs an error to the server error logs but continues to run.
Any thoughts in this regard would be very helpful for me.
what i need to do for my project are as following:
a mobile user send data via GPRS to SQL server Database. then i need to have a method to detect while a particular table is being inserted. and then extract data from table construct a report dynamiclly. what should i do to achieve this goal? e.g. window application, store procedure or trigger ?
PS : client side is a mobile application developed using MCL. i don't in which way he will send all data to SQL server Database, so what i need to do is to monitor new data inserting.
2) how to auto generate and print report directly after record been inserted into the table ? Do i need to import report web service API ? if yes, which one? or i can use other methods e.g. predefine report control view in my window application, turn off pop-up menu while printing a report(I guess)
I have a problem with the round of SQL Server 2K on the float data type.
In my application I do a SQL request for find a row in a table of SQL Server 2K.
This is the request :
SELECT DISTINCT N_ROW_ID FROM COMM WHERE N_ARTICLE_ID=79510 AND N_DATASOURCE_ID=1 AND N_SOURCE_ID=-102 AND N_PROVIDER_ID=-100 AND N_LEAD_TIME IS NULL AND N_UNIT_PRICE = 329.78 AND N_UNIT_PRICE_CURRENCY_ID=1
N_UNIT_PRICE is a float data type.
In the line need, the field N_UNIT_PRICE has 329.78 but with the round of SQL Server 2K I have 329.779999999999997.
So I never find the row
Do you have a solution for comparate a float flied with SQL Server round and a float send in a request as my 329.78?
I can't transform the column in decimal or numeric data type.
The following statement fails when using SQL Analyzer under sa but works on all of our development and staging server. All are SQL Server 2005 SP1. We upgraded production over the weekend from SQL Server 2000, creating a new instance machinenameSQL2005.
SELECT *
FROM OPENROWSET('Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0',
'Excel 8.0;Database=d:data est.xls',
'SELECT * FROM [Sheet1$]')
The error we are getting only in prodcution is:
OLE DB provider "Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0" for linked server "(null)" returned message "Unspecified error".

Hi. I am trying to extract the data returned from a store procedure to a flat file. However, it fail to execute this package in the OLE DB Source. I select the SQL Command in the Data Access Mode, then use:
USE [SecurityMaster] EXEC [dbo].[smf_ListEquity]
It runs ok in the Preview, but not in the Run. Then the system returns during executing the package:
Error: 0xC02092B4 at Load TickerList, OLE DB Source [510]: A rowset based on the SQL command was not returned by the OLE DB provider. Error: 0xC004701A at Load TickerList, DTS.Pipeline: component "OLE DB Source" (510) failed the pre-execute phase and returned error code 0xC02092B4.
Due to all kinds of the history reasons, we had "Dump transaction with no_log" and "backup Tempdb with no_log" inside our product code, the command will be called every 30mins. Since most of our clients are small to medium size, we set up the maintenance plan to do a full backup everyday. No one has ever bothered to reconsider it.
Now we are trying to help customer set up a standby server by using data mirroring, should we remove all "dump transaction" statement from the code even we choose synchronous Data Mirroring? If we don't remove dump transaction statement, is there a way to help customer set up a standby server by using data mirroring or any other replication?
Can anybody tell me the differences, advantages and disadvantages between these three solutions? When do I may use one or another? Could you recommend me any documentation?
Not sure if this question makes sense, but is it necessary to purge old data in msdb tables used by the db mirroring monitor job?
I'm just wondering if an insert into the data table every minute of the day would still be needed a month from now. I'm thinking this data would be useful for the purpose of "alerts" and to have access to its recent history, but other than that, is it recommended (or necessary)? Would these records keep accumulating until manually purged?
