System Model Log File Is Over 28G
Apr 4, 2007I'm running SQL2005. The application running under SQL are a small accounting software and Microsoft WSUS. The file that is over 28G is the system model log file (modellog.ldf). I tried shrinking it and that only shrunk it by 2G. Is the model log file supposed to get that big, because the primary model data file is only 1Mg. How do I fix this? Can I delete the model log file?

Nov 7, 2001So every database i created has no system stored procedures. I didn't know how that could happen as I am not the person who installed sql2000. What should I do to get all the system stored procedures back?

Recovery Model Indicator - Which System Table?

I hope you can help as I am really scratching my head on this one. I am pulling together an assessment of the Disaster Recovery readiness for an organisation I am working at. Part of the assessment I am doing is the recovery model of each of the databases.
I have scripts that are already pulling lots of data from 40+ servers and 500+ databases. However, I cannot seem to find anywhere within the MASTER or MSDB or the database itself where the Recovery Model flag is held. Obviously I can right click on the database and click properties and it is there, but I need to automate this task (as it will probably be a weekly assessment).
I have checked sysdatabases and almost every other table, but nothing obvious as to where this flag is.
Any ideas?

Background: My customer wants to replace an existing OLTP system database because it runs on Oracle and their in-house expertise is in SQL Server. Â The original database developers that designed the Oracle DB have apparently retired. Â The Oracle database has been over-normalized, to say the least. Â The number of sales orders being entered daily is small: about 500-750 per day. Â These entries are done at the five clerks' convenience, from a paper form, and are very unlikely to ever be entered in quick succession. Â Nothing else gets regularly entered into this database except for the occasional change to a customer, but new customers are very few and far between. Â
I've designed a star schema for the replacement database with the Sales Order Header and Sales Order detail table combined into a single 'fact' table, and I've introduced some duplication into dimension tables (like customer) in order to eliminate some of the joins (and confusion) that were built into the original database.
I've never tried this before. Â Is there any reason this would not or should not work?

English is the most important language and that is the standard. But, there are also requirements of countries that wants productdescriptions in their language.Â

One option is to column the descriptions, but that is not very elegantly. I was thinking of using bridge tables to model this but you have to always select a language in a filter (I think)..
I'm thinking of a technical solution, such that when a user logs on, the language is determined and a view determines whether to pick a certain product table specific for a certain language. But then I don't have the opportunity to interchange the different language specific fields in a report (or in my case PowerPivot).

We have the following scenario,
We have our Production server having database on which Few DTS packages execute every night. Most of them have Bulk Insert stored procedures running.
SO we have to set Recovery Model of the database to simple for that period of time, otherwise it will blow up our logs.
Is there any way we can set up log shipping between our production and standby server, but pause it for some time, set recovery model of primary db to simple, execute DTS Bulk Insert Jobs, Bring it Back to Full recovery Model AND finally bring back Log SHipping.
It it possible, if yes how can we achieve this.
If not what could be another DR solution in this scenario.

I have MS Time Seeries model using a database of over a thousand products each of which has hundreds of cases. It amazingly takes only a few minutes to finish processing the model, but when I click Mining Model Viewer to view the models, it takes many hours to show up. Once the window is open, I can choose model for different products almost instantly. Is this normal?

when i go to http://servername/reportserver , the logon.aspx does not load and i get the following error message :

Apr 3, 2007Ok guys, I am trying to install Sql server 2005 on Vista but I am still stuck with this warning message in the System Configuration Check during Sql server 2K5 installation :

Now, I know I need to install SP2 but how the hell I am going to install SP2 if Sql server 2005 doesn't install any of the components including Sql server Database services, Analysus services, Reporting integration services( only the workstation component is available for installation)?
Any work around for this issue?
P.S.: I didn't install VS.NET 2005 yet, can this solve the problem?

These show up whenI use"exec sp_help 'databaseName'"but not in Ent. Mgr. or in Query Analyzer's object browser, and also notin a third party tool I use called AdeptSQL. I am wondering how thosetools know to differentiate between these types of quasi-system objects,and my real user data. (This is for the purpose of a customized schemagenerator I am writing). I created a .net console application within which I connect to a sql server (not local) as follows,

Everything works fine when I run it from my computer. When I try to run it from a network share I get the following error,

Jun 20, 2007I have a report that uses some embedded custom code. The embedded custom code is a function that execute some sql query on a sql server database.Everything works fine in Visual studio. The report gets deployed on the server successfully, however when running the report from report manager i get the following error message :
The Hidden expression for the table €˜table1€™ contains an error: Request for the permission of type 'System.Data.SqlClient.SqlClientPermission, System.Data, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089' failed.

Why do i get the error message ?, is this related to Code Access Security issues with .net framework. if yes
how do i set the Security so the report server or report manager allows embedded custom code to be executed. Any advice ?

I've written this code multiple times now. But for the first time i get an error at the line underlined. My procedure runs perfectly when i execute it through Sql Query analyzer.
plzz help.. Its urgent and am unable to find the reason for this error "A first chance exception of type 'System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException' occurred in system.data.dll"

Jun 19, 2008I'm getting this error on a vb.net page the needs to execute two separate stored procedures. The first one, is the main insert, and returns the identity value for the ClientID. The second stored procedure inserts data, but needs to insert the ClientID returned in the first stored procedure. What am I doing wrong with including the identity value "ClientID" in the second stored procedure?

Unable To Cast Object Of Type 'System.DBNull' To Type 'System.Byte[]'.

I have developed a custom server control for .NET Framework 2.0. The server control has a property named BinaryData of type byte[]. I marked this property to be data bindable. Now, I have varbinary(Max) type of field in my SQL Database and I have used SQLDataSource and bound this varbinary(Max) field with the property BinaryData (byte[]) of my control. It is working fine as long as the data value is not NULL. Now, In my control, I have handled the NULL value so that no Exception is thrown. Still, when I bind this property using the SQLDataSource, I get Error "Unable to cast object of type 'System.DBNull' to type 'System.Byte[]'." I am not sure if I can do anything to stop this erro within my control. If it is not possible from the control, then what is the workaround that I can do in my ASPX page in order to stop this error ?

MS documentation is short when it comes to explanation of Quiescing a system for peer to peer replication. It seems that for any change the whole p2p machine has to stop ? This would cripple our development/releases... Is it really the case ?
Can all p2p nodes be quiesced except one, the one when I would also make changes ?
i.e. N1 <> N2 <> N3 I would stop inserts/updates/deletes for N1 & N3 and keep inserting/updating/deleting for N2 as I'm making schema change on N2 (additional table, additional field etc). Would it work ?
Also, would I need to stop selects for N1 & N2 ?

Jan 16, 2008Greetings everyone, I am attempting to build my first application using Microsofts Sql databases. It is a Windows Mobile application so I am using Sql Server Compact 3.5 with Visual Studio 2008 Beta 2. When I try and insert a new row into one of my tables, the app throws the error message shown in the title of this topic.
'((System.Exception)($exception)).Message' threw an exception of type 'System.NotSupportedException'
My table has 4 columns (i have since changed my FavoriteAccount datatype from bit to Integer)

Account type will either be "Checking" or "Savings" when a new row is added, the user will select what they want from a combo box.

Where it says "Favorite Account: None" in the top panel, I am using a link label. When a user clicks "None" it will go to a account creation wizard, and set the first account as it's primary/favorite. As more accounts are added the user can select which will be his/her primary/favorite. For now I am just creating a sample account when the label is clicked in an attempt to get something working. Below is the code used.

I have no idea what I am doing wrong, all of the code I used I retreived from Microsofts help documentation included with VS2008. I have tried used my TableAdapter.Insert() method and it still failed when it got to
if (this.financesDataSet.BankAccount[num].FavoriteAccount == 1)
in my refreshDatabase() method it still failed.
When I look, the data has been added into the database, it's just when I try to retreive it now, it bails on me. Am I retreiving the information wrong?
