View 0 RepliesI am trying to edit a system stored(sp_add_dtspackage) procedure and cannot for the life of me find where to edit. This procedure does a check to keep users from saving changes to a package they do not own. I need users to be able to change the the packages when they are not always the one who created.
View 2 Replies View RelatedOur current concern deals with stored procedures from a third-party application that were modified in order to correct future data inconsistency that was being generated. Since the stored procedures were not encrypted, I was able to modify them and correct the problem. At the same time, we developed a small in-house application to correct the current data inconsistency and we created new stored procedures in the same database. Now I'm concern about if I had the right to modify those stored procedures and additionally, created new ones inside this database? Am I restricted somehow to use our full version of MS SQL Server with a scenario like this?

Hello SQL Experts,
we've got a Windows Server 2003 environment with SQL Server 2000 Sp 3.
A stored procedure selects specific data from a user-table which depend on the user executing it. The users are granted execute permission on the stored procedure. But execution fails, if the user is not granted select permission on the user-table, too.
The problem is, that the user must not have the permission on all data in the user-table but on the data concerning him.
In earlier versions of SQL Server and Windows the execute permission has granted sufficient rights to select from the underlying tables. How can this be re-established?
The Owner of sp and table is dbo.
Thanks for your replies!
Hi
I am currently using SQL server 2005 express edition for a website I have created using Asp.Net 2.
For this website I call stored procedures that I have created in the databse to return any page data. However, I keep getting error messages say that the login does not have execute permission for the stored procedure.
In Sql Server 2005 there does not seem to be an easy way to grant permissions to a stored procedure as you add them. I say this because when I used Sql Server 2000 I would just add the stored procedure, rigth click on it and grant permission to the user.
Now this does not seem to be the case with the new version of sql server and I was just wondering whether there is now a new, easy way of doing this.
If anyone can point me in the right direction on this...
I have managed to get this working by going into the properties of the users atached to the database, adding a list of stored procedures to the "scalables" area and individually ticking the execute checkboxs. However, when I return to add a new stored procedure, the list has disapeared. Is this a bug with Sql server 2005?
Thanking you in advance
I have a user on my database that has the following base permissions :
public
db_datareader
I need to give this user permission to edit a single stored procedure. I have tried using the following command :
GRANT ALL ON stored_procedure_name TO username
Which executes successfully, but the user still cannot edit the stored procedure.
If I give the user db_ddladmin permission they can edit all the user stored procedures, but for security reasons I would prefer to be able to this this at procedure level rather than a global permission on all user procs.
Does anybody know how I can do this?
EDIT : This is on SQL 2000
On our production SQL 2005 servers I want to give developers readonly access to each user database and also give them the ability to see stored procedures. Readonly is handled through db_datareader, but how do I give them the ability to see stored procedures without granting permission to execute them?
Thanks, Dave

I want to know the differences between SQL Server 2000 storedprocedures and oracle stored procedures? Do they have differentsyntax? I have an application that uses Integrated Windows authentication. My Web.config looks like below
<add key="dbconnection" value=" server=XXX;Initial Catalog=XXX;persist security info=False;Integrated Security=SSPI;Pooling=true" />
When users try to access my application, they get the below error:
Execute permission denied on object 'SprocName', database 'DBNAME',Owner,'dbo'
The Only way I could get rid off the error is if I set DBO permissions for the user group on the databse.
Can someone suggest how to set up a security group with the ‘necessary’ permissions on SQL SERVER (ie read,write execute Sproc etc) and not too many extra ones, like DBO.
Thanks,
Hi,
This Might be a really simple thing, however we have just installed SQL server 2005 on a new server, and are having difficulties with the set up of the Store Procedures. Every time we try to modify an existing stored procedure it attempts to save it as an SQL file, unlike in 2000 where it saved it as part of the database itself.
Thank you in advance for any help on this matter
Hi,
Below is the SP that I want to modify it such that it does another thing apart from what its doing now. I want to to delete all the records corresponding to the BpDate value before this insert happens. by meaning deleting all the records, I meant to say delete all records where BpDate = @BpDate and SiteCode = @SiteCode.
CREATE PROC CabsSchedule_Save
@JulianDate smallint,
@SiteCode smallint,
@BpDate smallint,
@CalendarDay smallint,
@BillPeriod smallint,
@WorkDay smallint,
@CalDayBillRcvd varchar(30),
@Remarks varchar(50)
AS
INSERT INTO
CabsSchedule(JulianDate, SiteCode, BpDate, CalendarDay, BillPeriod, WorkDay, CalDayBillRcvd, Remarks)
VALUES
(@JulianDate, @SiteCode, @BpDate, @CalendarDay, @BillPeriod, @WorkDay, @CalDayBillRcvd, @Remarks)
GO
Any help will be appreciated.

IS there a way inside code for vb.net to programmatically change sorting in a stored procedure???Reason is I need a two way sort and did not want to have to write a SP for each way ....If so Do you have an example.....

Everytime after I restore any database on the sql server 6.5, I have to recompile all the stored procedures in that database.Is there any method to overcome this problem?
Thanks,
Manu.
Trying to run a SQL Server 6.5 stored procedure via ADO 2.0 in Visual Basic 6. The stored procedure moves roughly 10000 records from one table to another within the same database. The procedure works just fine when run from a SQL editor such as I/SQL, but only transfers a few hundred records when it is executed from a VB application using ADO 2.0.
The guilty code can be seen below. Any thoughts?
Public cnSQL As New ADODB.Connection
Public qry As New ADODB.Command
With cnSQL
.ConnectionString = ConnectStringSQL
.ConnectionTimeout = 20
.Open
End With
Set qry.ActiveConnection = cnSQL
qry.CommandType = adCmdStoredProc
qry.CommandTimeout = 120
qry.CommandText = "sp_VGInsertBOMStructure"
qry.Execute

I have a stored procedure on SQL/Server 2000 that inserts into a #temptable. When I execute it from Query Analyzer it works fine.
When I execute it from an ASP using ADO it gives me an Open Error message. When I comment out the
#temptable the ASP works fine. Can someone shed some light on this? Do I have to do an ADO opent on the
#temptable?
Is there any application which can tell you the procedure called within a procedure.

I have a stored procedure I created in SQL Server 2000 enterprise manager which I would like to modify in SQL Server 2005 Express Management Studio. When I right click on the stored proc and select "Modify", the code opens - however any attempt to save creates a local .SQL file. How can I save these changes to the stored procedure on the server?
View 1 Replies View RelatedHi,
I'm from Argentina. I'm not an expert at all in SQL, I know very little about it. I've read in MSDN Library that in order to edit a stored procedure I must right-click the procedure to modify, and then click Design.
I'm using SQL Server Management Studio (not Express) and I don't see any "design" option. I do see a "modify" option. I clicked there and modified just a number I wanted to. Once modified I clicked on the X button to shut the file hoping the system would ask me if I wanted to save the changes made. When I clicked "yes" the file saved into "my documents > sql management studio > proyects".
I checked the original Store Procedure file inside "Programmability > Stored Procedures" and obviously it wasn't altered. I have now a file called "SQLQuery31" in "my documents > sql management studio > proyects" that seems to have the modification made.
Why do I have it there (inside My Documents) instead of modifying the original one? What must I do to get that stored procedure modified?
Thanks from Argentina !!
Hi
SQL 2005 sp1 - merge replication - HTTPS.
We have 2 publications for the database - one which has subscription.SyncType = SubscriptionSyncType.Automatic
and another with SyncType = SubscriptionSyncType.None.
The first publication is there so we can add new stored procs etc, the second contains the initial schema and the data.
When we try to modify a proc which is in the publication with SyncType = Automatic, the query never returns.
This is most urgent - thanks for your help.

I just installed sql server 2005 on my machine. I've been using Access for some time and have created my stored procedures easily in it. However, this sql server 2005 is so complicated. In Access, all I had to do was "Create a New Query", write my sql statement, name and save it. However, I am having so much trouble with this sql server. For example, when I create a stored procedure in sql server, it has a .sql extension. I am assuming the stored procedure is a file. However, after saving it, I expand my database, expand programmability, and expand stored procedures, yet my new stored procedure is not there. It's placed in a file called projects. I need to access this stored procedure from code, but in visual studio, I get an error message, "Cannot find stored procedure sp_Roster". Here is the code I used to access my stored procedure from vb.net. I thought it would work but it didntDim comm As New SqlCommandDim strsql As StringDim strconn As String strsql = "sp_Roster" strconn = "server=Home; user=sa; pwd=juwar74; database=Book;" With comm .Connection = New SqlConnection(strconn) .CommandText = strsql .CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure With .Parameters.Add("TeacherID", SqlDbType.Char) .Value = "DawsMark@aol.com" End With With .Parameters.Add("ClassID", SqlDbType.Int) .Value = CInt(classid) End With With .Parameters.Add("sID", SqlDbType.Int) .Value = ssID End With With .Parameters.Add("sLastName", SqlDbType.Char) .Value = lastname End With With .Parameters.Add("sFirstName", SqlDbType.Char) .Value = firstname End With With .Parameters.Add("sMiddleName", SqlDbType.Char) .Value = middlename End With With .Parameters.Add("Student", SqlDbType.Char) .Value = fullname End With With .Parameters.Add("Password", SqlDbType.Char) .Value = password End With .Connection.Open() .ExecuteNonQuery() With comm.Connection If .State = ConnectionState.Open Then .Close() End If End With End With Here is my procedure that I created and that was saved as sp_Roster.sql in sql server CREATE PROCEDURE sp_Roster ASBEGIN SET NOCOUNT ON; -- Insert statements for procedure here INSERT INTO Roster (TeacherID, ClassID, sID, sLastName, sFirstName, sMiddleName, Student, Password) VALUES (@TeacherID, @ClassID, @sID, @sLastName, @sFirstName, @sMiddleName, @Student, @Password)ENDGO Why isn't ado.net finding it in sql server. Is the sqlstr correct?
View 2 Replies View Related In a previous post, someone helped me with creating stored procedures, and I am grateful because I am transitioning from the Access World.
Anyway, I get an error at .ExecuteNonQuery in visual studio 2005 when I run the following code:
Dim strsql As String Dim strconn As String strsql = "sp_Roster" strconn = "server=xxxx; user=xxxx; pwd=xxxx; database=xxxx;" With comm .Connection = New SqlConnection(strconn) .CommandText = strsql .CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure With .Parameters.Add("TeacherID", SqlDbType.Char) .Value = "DawsMark@aol.com" End With With .Parameters.Add("ClassID", SqlDbType.Int) .Value = classid End With With .Parameters.Add("sID", SqlDbType.Int) .Value = ssID End With With .Parameters.Add("sLastName", SqlDbType.Char) .Value = lastname End With With .Parameters.Add("sFirstName", SqlDbType.Char) .Value = firstname End With With .Parameters.Add("sMiddleName", SqlDbType.Char) .Value = middlename End With With .Parameters.Add("Student", SqlDbType.Char) .Value = fullname End With With .Parameters.Add("Password", SqlDbType.Char) .Value = password End With .Connection.Open() .ExecuteNonQuery() With comm.Connection If .State = ConnectionState.Open Then .Close() End If End With End With
The error was: Error converting data type char to int.
The stored procedure in sql server was as follows
CREATE PROCEDURE sp_Roster -- Add the parameters for the stored procedure here@TeacherID varchar(50),@ClassID int,@sID int,@sLastName varchar(50),@sFirstName varchar(50),@sMiddleName varchar(50),@Student varchar(50),@Password varchar(50)ASBEGIN -- SET NOCOUNT ON added to prevent extra result sets from -- interfering with SELECT statements. SET NOCOUNT ON; -- Insert statements for procedure here INSERT INTO Roster (TeacherID, ClassID, sID, sLastName, sFirstName, sMiddleName, Student, Password) VALUES (@TeacherID, @ClassID, @sID, @sLastName, @sFirstName, @sMiddleName, @Student, @Password)ENDGO
The error also says "sqlexception was unhandled by user code.
This is strange because this code worked perfectly when connecting to Access and when I used oledb.
So how is it the code's problem? Is the stored procedure causing the error or the code. Can someone please help. thanks.
