Persistent SQLBrowser Error EventID 3

Jul 25, 2006

I have what looks like a completed install of SQL Server Express Edition, accomplished via unattended setup as part of a custom application (on a machine hereafter dubbed Machine "A").

So far, though, I can't access this instance from a remote SQL Server Management Studio because SSMSE can't see the installed database engine.

I've verified that:

The SQL Server Express installation on Machine A has remote connections enabled.
The SQLBrowser on Machine A is enabled and running.
Machine A's Windows Firewall is disabled.
Using a test tool, I can see that UDP messages sent to SQLBrowser (on port 1434), arrive (i.e. it complains about their format in the System Log).

It seems that Machine A's SQLBrowser isn't responding to requests, but there's no obvious reason why.

There's one clue in Machine A's event log:

Whenever SQLBrowser is started or restarted, there's a warning in the App Log:

"The configuration of the AdminConnectionTCP protocol in the SQL instance SQLEXPRESS is not valid." (eventid 3).

Any help will be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance
Josh

Logon Failure - Authz EventID 537

Feb 22, 2008

Hello Experts,

I have a database setup with a mirror on a different database server.

When I setup the mirror I recieve logon failure audits as noted below every minute on both the principal and mirror database servers.

The logon failures are associated with the account running the SQL Server service. They are local accounts.

The mirror functions properly but the logged events are annoying.

I have narrowed this issue down to occuring only when I setup a mirror.

How can I prevent these failure audits and continue to use the local user account that runs the SQL service?

SSE And Deleting Persistent Connections From ASP.NET

May 4, 2008

I'm a new user that is playiing with a few of the MS web tools available. I have been trying out the ClubDB sample as part of looking at visual web express. I have installed the sample and ran it in multiple directories while debugging. Most of the directories have now been delected. My problem now is that I cannot add back ClubDB and access it remotely because somewhere in the SQL database there are connections made for each of the previous "test" runs of the sample. I have run SSEUtil and deleted all connections involved (no clubdb or aspnetdb connections still connected) but that doesn't seem to fix it. For example, there still seems to be a table somewhere that remembers that I once had a "clubdb" connection in websitemainapp_data.

My questions are:
- where is this information stored?
- is there an easy to use tool to clear all of these persistant connections.

thanks

SQLBrowser Won't Start

Apr 25, 2007

I have a named instance of Microsoft SQL Server 2005 - 9.00.3042.00 (Intel X86). We installed this with a preexisting version of SQL Server 2000. Both SQL servers instances are running and Reporting Services 2005 is serving reports from the box. The problem is SQLBrowser will not start so we can not access SQL Server 2005 from the network. We can still access the SQL Server 2000 instance.

When I try to start the service with the surface area tool I get the following error:

The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion, you need administrator privileges to be able to start/stop this service. (SQLSAC)

SQLBrowser is set to start automatically. So about every 5 seconds the application event log shows the following after an autometic start attempt is made:

SQLBrowser Problem

Jan 25, 2007

Hello everybody,

we
have encountered big problems with SQL 2005 SQLBrowser service. We changed settings for SQL Server 2005 Network
Configuration trying to resolve some warnings in event log from
SQLBrowser service. To made story short - this is cluster environment
with multiple sql instances and sql services failed to start. Using
clusterrecovery tool resolved that issue, but since then SQLBrowser
service wouldn't start, for example running "sqlbrowser.exe -c" outputs:
SQLBrowser: starting up in console modeSQLBrowser: starting up SSRP redirection serviceSQLBrowser is successfully listening on 0.0.0.0[1434]SQLBrowser: failed starting SSRP redirection services -- shutting down.
All
sql instances are running ok and can be accessed vith ip,port but not
with named instance. We have corrected network configuration with sscm
back to original, checked registry, etc, but no luck. Is there any
chance to resolve this issue and avoid lenghtly and very frustarting
reinstall of all sql instances?

Best regards,
madigan

Cannot Start SQLBrowser

Mar 6, 2008

Hi,

I have a sql2005 x64 sp2 2 node a/p cluster. On both nodes, I'm not able to start the SQLBrowser service. I'm using a domain account for the service and it's in the local admin group. These are the errors:

The configuration of the SQL instance <instance name> is not valid.

The SQLBrowser service was unable to establish SQL instance and connectivity discovery.

The SQLBrowser is enabling SQL instance and connectivity discovery support.

The SQLBrowser is enabling Analysis Services discovery support.

The SQLBrowser service has started.

The SQLBrowser service has shutdown.

Report Server Windows Service <instance name> cannot connect to the report server database.

Service started successfully.

Report Server Windows Service <instance name> cannot connect to the report server database.

When I attempt to start sqlbrowser manually, I get the following results:

SQLBrowser: starting up in console mode

SQLBrowser: starting up SSRP redirection service

SQLBrowser is successfully listening on 0.0.0.0[1434]

SQLBrowser: failed starting SSRP redirection services -- shutting down.

SQLBrowser: starting up OLAP redirection service

SQLBrowser: Stopping the OLAP redirector

Has anybody seen this and have a solution?

Persistent Autoincrementing Value, Not Attached To Row Insertion?

Oct 19, 2004

I need to get a unique value to use for a record *before* the record is added to a table. It doesn't have to be contiguous with existing records, but it must always be unique, has to be persistent over multiple instantiations of an ASP.NET application, and has to work in that sort of a multi-session environment (where other sessions could need additional unique values before the first session gets around to actually adding a record to the table).

I considered generating and using unique CLSIDs for this, but the resulting value also needs to become part of the filename of some files that are being saved to the disk (and those names also saved in the table), and including text CLSIDs along with other filename data would make for some unpleasantly long and difficult to work with filenames.

I also don't think there's a practical way for me to use a trigger associated with an identity column for this, because I need to save files to disk using the unique value before I even know if the record will in fact end up being added to the table, and what's more, the numbers and names of those files will vary in ways that might be difficult to handle in a stored procedure.

What I'm thinking I will have to do is create a separate database table called something like "UniqueIDGen". This table would have a single record in it with a single integer value, initialized to a value of 1. Then, each time an ID is needed, this one record would be locked, read and incremented by 1. The only reason for doing it this way instead of with an application variable, as I see it, is that the values need to be unique and continue incrementing in perpetuity, no matter how many times the ASP.NET application is recycled or the server is rebooted.

But I still have to wonder if there might be a more efficient method provided by SQL Server for this type of unique value generation ... something that is equally as persistent without requiring an entire table with only a single record to be allocated to such a basic task. Does anyone know of a more elegant solution for this?

Maintaing A Connection Across Pages (Persistent)

Nov 8, 2005

I've only been workign with Database programming for 6 months or so, specfically SQL Server. I've setup a site through a hosting company that is pretty reputable and allows me plent of space/bandwidth etc. However, they've recently been having problems with one of their servers (the one I'm co hosted on) as an "abornamlly" large amount of connections are being opened up on their server.

I realize that SQL Server is designed to handle large amounts of traffic and my humble little site probably isn't killing it with shear traffic, but I'm wondering if my programming practicies are sub par and causing problems.

I'm coding in ASP (work hasn't given us the chance to migrate to .net). Anyway my site is getting some 30 - 40k hits a day on the actual web portion and probably another 10-20k on backed stuff - all which open up database connections to do their work.

I've had locks and blocks routinely because of this and I'm afraid I'm just going about this all wrong.

So I'm wondering if there is a way to maintain an established connection in ASP across multiple pages and/or sessions so I don't have to constantly drop and reconnect to the db?

Any help would be great!

Persistent Communication Session Inside Sqlclr Proc?

Jul 21, 2006

I suspect this is very poor design but I've been asked to research this: can I maintain a persistent communication session inside an sqlclr proc? (tcp/binary packets)

The process has to maintain very high throughput - setting up and tearing down a connection on each transaction is cost prohibitive. For TCO and deployment reasons it is preferable not to have a separate windows service etc that accepts requests from inside the clr proc. Is there the luxury of an alternative integrated into the database?

SQLBrowser: Service Was Unable To Process A Client Request.

Hi, I have a Active/Active SQL 2005 Cluster, and I've seen this recurring message in the Event Log.

Source: SQLBrowser
Category: None
Type: Error
User: N/A
EventID: 8
Message: The SQLBrowser service was unable to process a client request.

I don't know if it's something to worry about, since I haven't had anyone call in an issue.

I have set the default and named instances to specific ports, no dynamic ports here.

There's nothing in the instances' error logs.

Any ideas?

[XML Task] Error: An Error Occurred With The Following Error Message: There Are Multiple Root Elements.

Aug 18, 2006

I'm trying to use an XML Task to do a simple XSLT operation, but it fails with this error message:

[XML Task] Error: An error occurred with the following error message: "There are multiple root elements. Line 5, position 2.".

The source XML file validates fine and I've successfully used it as the XML Source in a data flow task to load some SQL Server tables. It has very few line breaks, so the first 5 lines are pretty long: almost 4000 characters, including 34 start-tags, 19 end-tags, and 2 empty element tags. Here's the very beginning of it:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<ESDU releaselevel="2006-02" createdate="26 May 2006"><package id="1" title="_standard" shorttitle="_standard" filename="pk_stan" supplementdate="01/05/2005" supplementlevel="1">
<![CDATA[This package contains the standard ESDU Series.]]>

There is only 1 ESDU root element and only 1 package element.

Of course, the XSLT stylesheet is also an XML document in its own right. I specify it directly in the XML Task:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>

<xsl:stylesheet version="1.0" xmlns:xsl="http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Transform"/>

<xsl:template name="identity" match="@*|node()">
<xsl:copy>
<xsl:apply-templates select="@*|node()"/>
</xsl:copy>
</xsl:template>

<xsl:template match="kw">
<xsl:copy>
<xsl:apply-templates select="@*"/>
<xsl:attribute name="ihs_cats_seq" select="position()"/>
<xsl:apply-templates select="node()"/>
</xsl:copy>
</xsl:template>

</xsl:stylesheet>

Its 5th line is the first xsl:template element.

What is going on here? I do not see multiple root elements in either the XML document or the XSLT stylesheet.

Thanks!

I have looked where the error logs should be, but there are no error logs.
I rebuilt the query as I needed to change this, but this did not help.
Is there someone who could point me in the correct direction.

Just Started Getting This Error When Trying To Connect To SQL From ASP.NET--error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified

Apr 3, 2007

This has worked fine for weeks, and months.

I'm running Vista Ultimate. SQL 2005 is set as my Default instance, and SQL2000 is set as (local)SQL2000.

Today, actually half way through today, I restarted my computer after installing Photoshop Updates.

Upon getting my computer back up and running, I cannot access SQL2000 from any website on my computer, nor can I access it from SQL2005 Management Stdio. I CAN access it from Enterprise Manager (SQL2000 tool).

Whenever I run an web app that connects to it I get this error:

An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified)

Now I usually get these when ASP.NET can't point to the right spot, but in this case I'm pointing exactly where I need to go. Any thoughts?

--Edit

I should also add my password got changed a few days ago on our Domain. This was the first time restarting after the PW change.

The Push Method Returned One Or More Error Rows. See The Specified Error Table. [ Error Table Name = ]

Jan 10, 2008

Hi,
I have application in which i am performing synchronization between SQL Server 2000 and SQL Server 2005 CE.
I have one table "ItemMaster" in my database.There is no relationship with this table,it is standalone.I am updating its values from Windows Mobile Device.

I am performing below operations for that.
Step : 1 Pull To Mobile

Code BlockmoSqlCeRemoteDataAccess.Pull("ItemMaster", "SELECT * FROM ItemMaster", lsConnectString,RdaTrackOption.TrackingOn);

Step : 2 Using one device form i am updating table "ItemMaster" table's values.

Step : 3 Push From Mobile

Code BlockmoSqlCeRemoteDataAccess.Push("ItemMaster", msConnectString);

So i am getting an error on 3rd step.
While i am trying to push it says,
"The Push method returned one or more error rows. See the specified error table. [ Error table name = ]".
I have tried it in different ways but still i am getting this error.

Note : Synchronization is working fine.There is not issue with my IIS,SQL CE & SQL Server 2k.

Can any one help me?I am trying for that since last 3 days.

SSIS Error Code DTS_E_OLEDBERROR. An OLE DB Error Has Occurred. Error Code: 0x8000FFFF.

Jan 28, 2008

Hi All,

Recently in an SSIS package I am getting the following error for a particular Data flow task.

Error: 2008-01-25 12:01:48.58

Code: 0xC0202009

Source: Import Datasynapse Data User Events Source [3017]

Description: SSIS Error Code DTS_E_OLEDBERROR. An OLE DB error has occurred. Error code: 0x8000FFFF.

End Error

Error: 2008-01-25 12:01:48.73

Code: 0xC004701A

Source: Import Datasynapse Data DTS.Pipeline

Description: component "User Events Source" (3017) failed the pre-execute phase and returned error code 0xC0202009.

End Error

Our guess is when the data size of User Events table is more it throws this error. If we try to transfer small subset of data it succeeds. What could be reason for this error?

Since this is very urgent, immediate response would be very much appreciated.

Thanks & Regards,
Prakash Srinivasan

Strange Error In Error Log (error 17824)

May 6, 1999

We are encounrtering a strange error in out sql error log:

source: ods
error: 17824, severity 10, state 0
source: ods
unable to write to ListenOn connection '.pipesqlquery', loginname 'op', hostname 'BOR0181'

This error occurs multiple times per day from several client stations.

It started when we enabled replication on that server, and started replicating the whole database to another server.

Can somebody give me an idea on what the problem could be ?

Irregular Error In SQL 2000-Named Pipes Provider, Error: 40, Could Not Establish Connection

Apr 10, 2007

I have a web application developed in VS.NET 2005 [using C# as code behind]; and it uses SQL Server 2000 Enterprise edition as backend.
The application runs fine, though it gives an error on IRREGULAR intervals on SQL data requests.
Error Details:
An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server)

My problem is this:
1) Why does it show an error of SQL 2005, while I use SQL 2000. SQL 2005 is not even installed on the server, though VS.NET 2005 is installed.
2) The error comes only at irregular intervals. Users are able to login properly otherwise.
3) Application starts working again if we do either of the following: (a) Restart IIS (b) Restart application pool (c) Restart server.
4) Named pipes and TCP/IP are added to the "Network Configuration" of the SQL server 2000.
5) Error does not come on any specific page; or any specific code; or at any specific time.
6) We do not have any background service or any other activity happening on the server; and the server hosts only this application, within a single virtual root.

Any thoughts on why is this happening, and how to resolve this?
