Print Reports On Legal Paper

Jun 30, 2006

While working in the report project in Visual Studio, I set my Report Layout to 14w x 8.5h with .25 margins on all sides, and the page size to be 13.5in (to take into account the margins). When I print from the report viewer control in Preview mode, the report prints as it should, in Landscape on Legal paper without me changing any settings.

When I deploy the same report to the report server, and print from there, the report prints in Landscape on Letter paper (which causes some columns to print on a second page).

Why is there a difference in the two environments? Is there something I'm missing?

The goal is for the users to be able to print the report correctly without having them change any print settings in the dialog.

Automatically Print Multiple Copies Of The Same Report With Different Label On Letter Size Paper

Dec 31, 2006

Hi,

I am new to reporting services and I'm really stuck on a design problem. Can someone please help me?

I would like to design my own print function. When a user clicks on the print icon (preferably the one that came with reporting services), the report is automatically printed twice, once with "For Person A" and the second time with "For Person B" on it. It doesn't matter where these two labels are placed on the page. These two reports need to be printed on letter-size paper regardless of user's selection. How do I do this with minimum amount of code?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Print Preview Background Color

Mar 27, 2007

I am working with a report created by someone else using SQL Reporting Services. In layout view the background for the body of the report is set ti transparent; however, when I preview the report using print preview the background or margins of the pages are appearing as black - text boxes, tables, etc. appear according to the properties that have been set. As soon as I change the background color to say white the print preview looks fine. Is this normal or is there a setting somewhere that controls this?

Print Attributes In Stored Procedure

Jul 20, 2005

I've upgraded MS-Access 2002 to a MS-Access Project (adp), so now I have todeal with more sophisticated queries (may I call them so?) like storedprocedures. I have a form with a combobox for selections and a textbox toenter a certain value. Let us say I call the combobox @select and thetextbox @find. The combobox always shows the first of the items to select.Now I want to return a message if nothing is found, or if nothing has beenentered at all. The stored procedure reads for instance:ALTER PROCEDURE OPC@select nvarchar(20), @find nvarchar (100)ASSET NOCOUNT ONIF@find IS NULLBEGINPRINT 'You didn't enter any value'RETURNENDIF@select = 'Author'BEGINSELECT *FROM BooksWHERE Author LIKE '%' + @find + '%'ORDER BY Author, Title, Publisher, YearEND[And so on]RETURNThis works correct when I enter something, but when I don't enter any value,a message box pops up saying that the stored procedure has been executed,but no records were found. I want to see an error message like above. It'sas simple asALTER PROCEDURE HelloASBEGINPRINT 'Hello'ENDand nothing is seen. Does anybody know? Thank you.Wim

Flush Print Statements During Lengthy Procedure

Apr 3, 2007

I'm working on a stored procedure, and I'm nearing completion. The procedure takes a while to run (it's a very large dataset), but that's not my issue. The problem is that I include several print statements, but I don't get to see any of them until the entire procedure has finished. Is there anything I can do to be able to see them as they are printed? Using sql server 2000 with management studio for 2005.

Print A Select Statement Within A Store Procedure

May 8, 2008

I want to create store procedure which will print out something like this:

Insert into [dbname].dbo.[gameBooks] value (@gameBookID, gameBookTitle, ganeVolumn)
But first one print out good, as I expected. I either got nothing or the error message on second piece.

Msg 245, Level 16, State 1, Line xxx
Conversion failed when converting the varchar value 'Insert into [dbname].dbo.[cookBooks] value (' to data type int.
Any Help will be greatly appreciated.

on SQL 2005 SP1.
Here is my example code (not the real one):
Create Procedure [dbo].[makeNewString]
@myBookID
As
Declare bookID int
Declare newRowID int
Declare insertBookInfoString nvarchar(150)
select 'Declare @newBookID int'
Set insertBookInforString =
(Select 'Insert into [dbname].dbo.[gameBooks] value (' + @gameBookID + ',' + gameBookTitle +',' + ganeVolumn +')'
from [dbname].dbo.[gameBooks])
where @gameBookID=@myBookID
Print insertBookInforString
select 'SET @newRowID = Scope_Identity()'
print @newRowID
select 'Declare @newBookID int'
Set insertBookInforString =
(Select 'Insert into [dbname].dbo.[cookBooks] value (' + @cookBookID +',' + cookBookTitle +','+cookVolumn+')'
from [dbname].dbo.[cookBooks]
where @cookBookID=@myBookID)
Print insertBookInforString
first insertBookInfoString prints out fine.
But I kept this error on second part:

------------------------------
DECLARE Declare @newBookID int
(1 row(s) affected)
Insert into [dbname].dbo.[gameBooks] value (@gameBookID, gameBookTitle, ganeVolumn) (this is what I want)
-----------------------------------------
SET @newBookID = Scope_Identity()
(1 row(s) affected)

Msg 245, Level 16, State 1, Line xxx
Conversion failed when converting the varchar value 'Insert into [dbname].dbo.[cookBooks] value (' to data type int.

Calling A Stored Procedure Inside Another Stored Procedure (or Nested Stored Procedures)

Nov 1, 2007

Hi all - I'm trying to optimized my stored procedures to be a bit easier to maintain, and am sure this is possible, not am very unclear on the syntax to doing this correctly.  For example, I have a simple stored procedure that takes a string as a parameter, and returns its resolved index that corresponds to a record in my database. ie
exec dbo.DeriveStatusID 'Created'
returns an int value as 1
(performed by "SELECT statusID FROM statusList WHERE statusName= 'Created')
but I also have a second stored procedure that needs to make reference to this procedure first, in order to resolve an id - ie:
exec dbo.AddProduct_Insert 'widget1'
which currently performs:SET @statusID = (SELECT statusID FROM statusList WHERE statusName='Created')INSERT INTO Products (productname, statusID) VALUES (''widget1', @statusID)
I want to simply the insert to perform (in one sproc):
SET @statusID = EXEC deriveStatusID ('Created')INSERT INTO Products (productname, statusID) VALUES (''widget1', @statusID)
This works fine if I call this stored procedure in code first, then pass it to the second stored procedure, but NOT if it is reference in the second stored procedure directly (I end up with an empty value for @statusID in this example).
My actual "Insert" stored procedures are far more complicated, but I am working towards lightening the business logic in my application ( it shouldn't have to pre-vet the data prior to executing a valid insert).
Hopefully this makes some sense - it doesn't seem right to me that this is impossible, and am fairly sure I'm just missing some simple syntax - can anyone assist?

Calling A Stored Procedure From ADO.NET 2.0-VB 2005 Express: Working With SELECT Statements In The Stored Procedure-4 Errors?

Mar 3, 2008

Hi all,

I have 2 sets of sql code in my SQL Server Management Stidio Express (SSMSE):

(1) /////--spTopSixAnalytes.sql--///

USE ssmsExpressDB

GO

CREATE Procedure [dbo].[spTopSixAnalytes]

AS

SET ROWCOUNT 6

SELECT Labtests.Result AS TopSixAnalytes, LabTests.Unit, LabTests.AnalyteName

FROM LabTests

ORDER BY LabTests.Result DESC

GO

(2) /////--spTopSixAnalytesEXEC.sql--//////////////

USE ssmsExpressDB

GO
EXEC spTopSixAnalytes
GO

I executed them and got the following results in SSMSE:
TopSixAnalytes Unit AnalyteName
1 222.10 ug/Kg Acetone
2 220.30 ug/Kg Acetone
3 211.90 ug/Kg Acetone
4 140.30 ug/L Acetone
5 120.70 ug/L Acetone
6 90.70 ug/L Acetone
/////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
Now, I try to use this Stored Procedure in my ADO.NET-VB 2005 Express programming:
//////////////////--spTopSixAnalytes.vb--///////////

Public Class Form1

Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click

Dim sqlConnection As SqlConnection = New SqlConnection("Data Source = .SQLEXPRESS; Integrated Security = SSPI; Initial Catalog = ssmsExpressDB;")

Dim sqlDataAdapter As SqlDataAdapter = New SqlDataAdaptor("[spTopSixAnalytes]", sqlConnection)

sqlDataAdapter.SelectCommand.Command.Type = CommandType.StoredProcedure

'Pass the name of the DataSet through the overloaded contructor

'of the DataSet class.

Dim dataSet As DataSet ("ssmsExpressDB")

sqlConnection.Open()

sqlDataAdapter.Fill(DataSet)

sqlConnection.Close()

End Sub

End Class
///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////

I executed the above code and I got the following 4 errors:
Error #1: Type 'SqlConnection' is not defined (in Form1.vb)
Error #2: Type 'SqlDataAdapter' is not defined (in Form1.vb)
Error #3: Array bounds cannot appear in type specifiers (in Form1.vb)
Error #4: 'DataSet' is not a type and cannot be used as an expression (in Form1)

Please help and advise.

Thanks in advance,
Scott Chang

More Information for you to know:
I have the "ssmsExpressDB" database in the Database Expolorer of VB 2005 Express. But I do not know how to get the SqlConnection and the SqlDataAdapter into the Form1. I do not know how to get the Fill Method implemented properly.
I try to learn "Working with SELECT Statement in a Stored Procedure" for printing the 6 rows that are selected - they are not parameterized.

Print Barcodes With The Active X Print Control

Mar 2, 2007

We are having problems printing Reports (when printing by clicking on the AcitiveX print control), where the font for the fields are set to "C39HrP24DhTt" (barcode).

While viewing the report it displays as Barcodes but while printing, the Barcode does not get printed, but the string gets printed.

Environment: SSRS 2005

Using the ReportViewer Control in a .Net 2.0 Web App to render the reports.

BarCodes print fine in the following situations:

1. When the Report is exported to Excel and when printed from there

2. When you click on the print button on Internet Explorer

3. When saving as html (from view source) and opening that html document and printing.

BarCodes do NOT get printed in the following situation:

1. When printing by clicking on the "Print" (Active X Control) icon. Even the "Print Preview" does not show the Barcode.

SQL Server 2014 :: Embed Parameter In Name Of Stored Procedure Called From Within Another Stored Procedure?

I have another stored procedure that's executed from this one that I will also parameter-ize. We Have A New White Paper On Connectivity!

Jan 10, 2007

Dear Forum Members,

We've been working on a white paper targeting SSIS connectivity which we hope will help answer some of the key questions in the following areas :

What are the SSIS components and their support level for ADO.NET, ODBC, and OleDB?

How to deal with 64-bit connectors? what is supported, what is not?

Special sections on popular data sources such as SAP, Oracle, DB2, Flat File, XML.

A comprehensive list of data sources and available connectors from Microsoft and other 3rd parties.

You'll also find answers to why some of the things are the way they are today.

Note that this white paper is currently under official editing and publishing in Microsoft. It'll be a while before it goes public officially, but I wanted to share it with you, as the rich content it offers can't really wait. You'll find the paper in my blog, which is really a wiki site about SSIS connectivity fully open to public, so feel free to add/update content in there as you feel proper, and help the SSIS community with your wisdom!

A lot of feedback went into this white paper not only from Microsoft, but also from some of our partners and MVPs. I'd like to extend special thanks to Bob Beauschemin for authoring this challenging white paper.

Enjoy!

BPA Vs. Security Best Practices Paper

Jul 17, 2007

I would like to refer to the following technical article

SQL Server 2005 Security Best Practices - Operational and Administrative Tasks

http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/sql/2005/sql2005secbestpract.mspx

Among best practices for SQL Server service accounts on page 8, it is recommended to 'use a separate account for each service'. I created separate account for each service as advised and assign account to relevant Windows group created for each SQL Server service during SQL setup.

Now when I run Best Practices Analyzer, its report seemed to contradict what the above article said. For example, BPA reports excerpts:

"We recommend that the service SQLBrowser on host MachineName be run under Network Service Account". I get similar recommendation for SQLSERVERAGENT account as well. Most importantly, it recommends that MSFTESQL be run under SQL Server Service Account.

Can anyone of you shed some light on it?

Thanks,

Asaf

Setting Paper Size To Be Default A4

May 30, 2006

Hi,

I have been trying to configure the Paper Size to be default "A4" instead of "Letter".
My Report is configured to 21cm x 29,7cm and margins 1,5cm.
The Body is configured to 18cm x 26,7cm.

Everything looks fine in the Preview but the Size is always "Letter". The printers are all configured for A4 printing.

Is there a way to set these default values in the Page Setup Toolbar or is it supposed to figure it out?

Thanks,
steinar
