Problem Installing Express Mysql

May 19, 2007

After downloading Express my SQL erver Express I can't seem to launch it.

From the Start Menu I have Programs -> Microsoft Server 2005 -> Configuration Tools then a choice of 3 programs (none of these seem to be the actual program for creating databases etc)

.

There were no problems / errors during the installation.

Any ideas what might have went wrong?

Installing Both MySQL And MS-SQL On One Server. Conflicts?

The server in question already has Ms-SQL installed and used. My web-app has been developed for MySQL.

What, if any, conflicts would I encounter by installing MySQL on the server as well?

Would I be better of changing the the web-app to work with MS-SQL?

Express Vs MySQL

Feb 23, 2006

Where can I go to get information on supported features on Express?

I had heard that express does not support functions.

I have a dotnet application that is connecting to Access and the client wants to go to either mysql or express and I am looking for a pro or con on both. I usually use SQL2000 but I am wondering if there is a limit on the size of the database for express. Which is not a concern for about year but will be an issue after that.

Convert A Sql Express To Mysql

Jun 1, 2006

Hello.

I have created a web site using visual web developer (free download) The website was created using asp.net 2.0. The vwd I have incorporated the cool new roles and membership features of asp.net 2.0. When i did this vwd automatically created a sql express database (aspnetdb.mdf) to hold the login stuff.

I then purchased som e web hosting from a company and found out that they only support MySQL databases.

My questions are;

1. Can anyone tell me the difference between the two types of database (i know what sql express is but am not sure what MySQL is)

2. Secondly, is there a tool or way I can convert the SQL Express database to a MySQL database?

TIA

Sql, Sql Express, Access Or Mysql For Data

Mar 30, 2008

If this has been discussed before i apologise as i am fairly new to the asp forum and was not sure where to search for threads.
I am upgrading to a new web plan that supports asp and i noticed that godaddy supports all of the above databases.  I was curious if there are any advantages to using one db over the others as far as web is concerned?
What i am looking to do is handle guestbook,  logins for registered users which would control access to certain downloads and possibly pages as well.  And it was also advised that i look into using a database to store and display dynamic information in my master page to only show the updated information instead of a complete new page each time.  This would save on having to manage so many pages.
 So i would really appreciate any advice on the databases as i will be making my decision to go with a specific web host based on this.  I would also appreciate any advice on a good web host for asp and database support.
Thank you Jeff

How To Migrate From MySQL 4.1 To MS SQL Express 2005

Nov 7, 2007

I am trying to migrate from MySQL 4.1 to MS SQL Express 2005
1. do i need to create an empty db under Express
2. can this be done from within Express by pulling from MySQL into Express or do I need to work from command lines
3. what would be the cleanest way to approach this

I have a MySQL dump and did look at the result from within Express, but it was not an import, I would like to find a way to import if possible that data. Table by table would be fine.

Can't Connect To MySQL 2005 Express

Jun 30, 2006

I'm trying to upsize an Access database to SQL 2005 Express. When I follow the wizard and I've tried all ways of connecting to the database I get the following error

Connection failed
SQL State '01000'
SQL Server Error 53
[Microsoft] [ODBC SQL Server Driver][DBNETLIB] ConnectionOpen()).
Connection failed
SQL State '08001'
SQL Server Error 17
[Microsoft] [ODBC SQL Server Driver][DBNETLIB] SQL Server does not exist or access denied

I've tried using local host and typing the exact server connection string from the SQL Express Management tool and nothing is working

How come I can't do this? Everyone says this is easy and straight forward -- not for me.

MS SQL Express Advanced Vs MS SQL Full Version Vs MySQL

Jul 23, 2007

I'm planning to transport a desktop application to the web. A spin-off ofthis application has already been put on the web by another programmer. Heused ColdFusion with MS SQL, Access, VC, and Java. It is faster than thedesktop application (written in VFP).1. Can I get the same results using MS SQL Express Advanced and Access forthe internet version if used with .net?2. Are the select statements limited in power, accuracy, size, etc. for MSSQL Express Advanced when compared to SQL?3. If Access will perform poorly, can VFP be used instead with .net? Ialready know it can't be used with ColdFusion. 4. If MS Express Advancedwill not sufficiently replace SQL, will MySQL do the job better?Thanks

Simple Migration From MySQL To SQL Server Express 2005?

Mar 18, 2006

Normally I'd go and write a bunch of code for doing it manually... But instead of that, maybe there is a smarter way?

What I know is that you can get some kind of dump out of MySQL but I would be very surprised if that could be directly read into SQL Express ??

So if you have a few step guide to migrate from MySQL to SQL Express, I am all ears (and eyes)!

Thanks!

(Yes I am aware there is some DTS thingy for this but could not find it in the Express folders)

Linked Server To MYSQL Using OLEDB Provider For MYSQL Cherry

Feb 12, 2007

Good Morning

Has anyone successfully used cherry's oledb provider for MYSQL to create a linked server from MS SQLserver 2005 to a Linux red hat platform running MYSQL.

I can not get it to work.

I've created a UDL which tests fine. it looks like this

[oledb]

; Everything after this line is an OLE DB initstring

Provider=OleMySql.MySqlSource.1;Persist Security Info=False;User ID=testuser;

Data Source=databridge;Location="";Mode=Read;Trace="""""""""""""""""""""""""""""";

Initial Catalog=riverford_rhdx_20060822

Can any on help me convert this to corrrect syntax for sql stored procedure

sp_addlinkedserver

I've tried this below but it does not work I just get an error saying it can not create an instance of OleMySql.MySqlSource.

I used SQL server management studio to create the linked server then just scripted this out below.

I seem to be missing the user ID, but don't know where to put it in.

EXEC master.dbo.sp_addlinkedserver @server = N'DATABRIDGE_OLEDB', @srvproduct=N'mysql', @provider=N'OleMySql.MySqlSource', @datasrc=N'databridge', @catalog=N'riverford_rhdx_20060822'

WHAT NEXT AFTER INSTALLING SQL SERVER EXPRESS?

Sep 24, 2006

I have installed SQL Server Express with Advanced Services SP1 option. I am not really sure if I should have done this but I could not resist the temptation to have as many options as I could get. I even installed some samples/sample databases.

However, I cannot understand how to start using the SQL Express package which (unlike the Visual Basic 2005 Express or the Web Developer Express I also downloaded) does not show me a start up page. I get SQL Server Configuration Manager, SQL Server Error and Usage Reporting and SQL Server Surface Area Configuration, all from Configuration Tools. I have no idea how to proceed.

Could I have downloaded the wrong package?

Installing SQL Server Express

Dec 7, 2006

I am having a problem installing SQL Server Express 2005 from the command line in that it gets part way through and then stops - no message - just terminates. After much rooting around in log files and running a normal install I'm pretty sure that it is stopping because of a warning regarding "Minimum Hardware Requirements".

The laptop I'm trying to install it on is a Samsung X05, Centrino 1.4, 1gb RAM and 60gb free disk space. I've tried it on another laptop (Sony with a higher spec.) and get exactly the same problem.

As far as I can see the hardware spec is well above the recommended minumum so I'm at a loss as to what to try next to overcome the problem. If anyone has any suggestions then I'd be very grateful.

Trouble Installing SQL Express

Oct 19, 2006

When trying to install SQL Server 2005 Express, it hangs up on "Detecting Installed IIS". This happens if I have IIS installed, and if I do not. My computer is running XP Media Edition. I found a similar question asked by flashg on these forums, but there was no answer to the problem. There were a few other people who posted the same problem.

Is there any fix to this? I am writing software that I planned on using SQL Server Express to store its data with. But if SQL Server is going to cause problems on my customer's computers then I cannot use it.

This is the end of the log file for my SQL Server installation:

Installing SQL Express Via Commandline

Apr 1, 2007

So, I read this thread: http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=416220&SiteID=1, which suggested that I could call SQLEXPR32.EXE (the SP2 download) with the relevant commandline args in exactly the same way I could call setup.exe. Namely, if I were to call:

Code Snippetsetup.exe /qb /settings "c:/setup.ini"

then I should be able to use

Code SnippetSQLEXPR32.exe /qb /settings "c:/setup.ini"

where my setup.ini contains

Code Snippet[Options]
ADDLOCAL=SQL_Data_Files,SQL_Replication,Connectivity
INSTANCENAME=AuctionI
SAPWD=auctioni_000
SECURITYMODE=SQL

However, this doesn't seem to be working at all - the commandline params to SQLEXPR32.EXE are completely ignored, and it runs as if they were not specified.

Would be great to get some help on this. I'm equally happy with the set of commands I need to call in order to extract SQLEXPR32 and then run setup, but SQLEXPR32 seems to extract to a random GUID dir, and automatically start setup, neither of which is condusive to automating it.

Thanks,

Dan

Installing SQL Server Express

Aug 20, 2007

I have installed SQL Server Express on a Windows XP Professional workstation. The installation instructions that I was following said that I had to have .NET Framework 2.0 installed. The instructions said that I should uninstall any versions before I tried to install 2.0. My computer already has version 2.0 and version 3.0 installed, so I did not remove anything.

My problem is that now that I have SQL Express installed I cannot seem to connect to anything. I was specifically trying to convert an Access database to SQL Server format, and I keep getting a "connection failed" error. I don't seem to have any way to start SQL Express. Does it have to be started or is it running by default? What am I doing wrong?

Trouble Installing Sql Express

Nov 20, 2006

Hi,

I was trying to install visual studio 2005 and as part of it I wanted to install sql express as well. It installed the rest okay but not the sql express. Going through the log file I figured out that there was some incompatible beta version installed and hence had to be removed. In the log file I got the following error messages. Going through the forum suggestion I was trying to use msiexec /x to deinstall each of them but got the error message that "The setup has encountered an unexpected error in datastore. The action is Write_CommitFlag. The error is unable to write property into cache: flagCommit. Unable to write property into cache: "flagCommit" XmiRW Error: Failure loading xmlrw.dll CheckAllProcedures. returned 2". After this error message when I check the sql server configuration manager, I still see the old instances running.

I followed up another forum suggestion where I completely installed the old CTP and used the tool provided in the DVD(sqlbuw) to uninstall it but it only removes the one instance and leaves the rest on the system.

I will really appreciate help...
