Problem : Random Error With With IIS6 And MSSQL

Jul 23, 2005

Hi i have a problem with IIS6 and MSSQL and i hope that someone can
help me.

this is the configuration:

Windows 2003
IIS6
MSSQL 7.0 Standard Edition

ADO 2.5

I have the following error that occur randomly when browsing my
websites.

Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server error '80004005'
[DBNETLIB][ConnectionOpen (Connect()).]
Server SQL inesistente o accesso
negato.

(translate from italian: Server unexisting or access denied)

it occurs when users (more than one but not hundred...) browse some
asp pages where there's a lot of
recordset opening-closing acivity. The ado connection is correctly
open once and closed at the end of the script
and all recordset are opened as static.

It also happens if a single user refreash repeatedly that pages.

It seems that mssql says it doesn't exists but i think it want to say
it is too busy.
However the load is not excessive and the same pages works perfectly
on a system using Windows 2000 Server
and the same version of mssql installed.

One more thing ..... for some reasons that i can't control MSSQL and
IIS are on the same server.

Can anyone help me ? It's just a lack of performance or there is some
misconfiguaration in MSSQL (as i think...). ?

Could the IIS6 application pool configuration cause this problem ?

I don't know what to say....thanks in advance.

Separating IIS6/asp.net Server From WS2K/MSSQL Server

Nov 30, 2006

Hi folks. I am sure this is a common situation so there shouldn't be any problems ;-) I need to run a web server and a separate database server, but am having trouble working out what username I can use in my SQL database. Here is my setup:Web server: [Windows Server 2003, IIS6, ASP.NET 1.1] The anonymous web account for the website has been changed to one created by me, so I know the password - lets call it 'IUSR_ME'. Basides that it is all default. IIS_WPG has also been given access to all website files. Database Server: [Windows Server 2000, SQL Server Standard Edition] I already have a 'classic' ASP application running on this setup, and this was achieved by putting IUSR_ME as a user in the database. Does anyone know how to do it with ASP.NET? Many thanks in advance.George

ERROR [HY000] Or ERROR [23000] At Random Times When Using Sql Native Client Via ODBC

Apr 16, 2008

The following (VB.Net) code causes exceptions at seemingly random times.
Any suggestions?
Not sure if the problem is in .Net's ODBC support or in Sql Native Client.

If MARS is off, usually after less than 100 loops:

Code Snippet

System.Data.Odbc.OdbcException was unhandled
ErrorCode=-2146232009
Message="ERROR [HY000] [Microsoft][SQL Native Client]Connection is busy with results for another command"
Source="SQLNCLI.DLL"
Turning MARS is on bypasses that error, so it will sometimes survive a thousand or so runs before hitting:

Code Snippet

System.Data.Odbc.OdbcException was unhandled
ErrorCode=-2146232009
Message="ERROR [23000] [Microsoft][SQL Native Client][SQL Server]Cannot insert the value NULL into column 'Number', table 'tempdb.dbo.#TempTable___..(shortened to fit).. _________000000002F3F'; column does not allow nulls. INSERT fails.
Source="SQLNCLI.DLL"
Code here:
(Console Application, empty database,
Visual Studio 2005, .Net 2.0, Windows XP,SQL Server 2005 or SQL Express 2005, Local or Remote)

Code Snippet

Module Module1

Sub Main()

'Dim connection As New SqlClient.SqlConnection("database=TestDB;server=.sqlexpress;Integrated Security=SSPI;") 'Doesn't crash
'Dim connection As New OleDb.OleDbConnection("Provider=SQLNCLI;database=TestDB;Server=.sqlexpress;Trusted_Connection=yes;") 'Doesn't crash

'Dim connection As New Odbc.OdbcConnection("Driver={SQL Native Client};Database=TestDB;Server=.sqlexpress;Trusted_Connection=yes;") 'Crashes
Dim connection As New Odbc.OdbcConnection("Driver={SQL Native Client};Database=TestDB;Server=.sqlexpress;Trusted_Connection=yes;MARS_Connection=yes") 'Crashes

VBMath.Randomize()

Dim run_count As Integer = 1
connection.Open()
Console.WriteLine("Connected!!")

While True
'connection.Open()

Dim testcmd As New Odbc.OdbcCommand("CREATE TABLE [#TempTable] (Number int PRIMARY KEY)", connection)
testcmd.ExecuteNonQuery()
testcmd.Dispose()
testcmd = Nothing

Dim dtTemp As New DataTable
Dim daTemp As New Odbc.OdbcDataAdapter("SELECT * FROM [#TempTable]", connection)
daTemp.MissingSchemaAction = MissingSchemaAction.AddWithKey
daTemp.Fill(dtTemp)
Dim cbTemp As New Odbc.OdbcCommandBuilder(daTemp)
Dim viewTemp As New DataView(dtTemp, Nothing, "Number", DataViewRowState.CurrentRows)

Dim i As Integer
For i = 1 To 1000
Dim test_number As Integer = CInt(Rnd() * 2000)
If viewTemp.Find(test_number) = -1 Then 'Keep it unique
Dim new_temp_row As DataRowView = viewTemp.AddNew()
new_temp_row("Number") = test_number
new_temp_row.EndEdit()
End If
Next

daTemp.Update(dtTemp)

'daTemp.Dispose()
'daTemp = Nothing

'cbTemp.Dispose()
'cbTemp = Nothing

'dtTemp.Dispose()
'dtTemp = Nothing

'viewTemp.Dispose()
'viewTemp = Nothing

Dim testcmd2 As New Odbc.OdbcCommand("DROP TABLE [#TempTable]", connection)
testcmd2.ExecuteNonQuery()
testcmd2.Dispose()
testcmd2 = Nothing

'connection.Close()
'GC.Collect()

'Console.Write(".")
run_count += 1
End While

End Sub

End Module

Usually the ".Update" triggers the exception, but sometimes the other sql commands do it.
Have tried various experiments with disposing of objects immediately when finished, but no effect.
Opening and closing the connection each loop seems to delay the errors, but it still happens eventually.

Returning Random Records And NOT Similar (random Questions)

Jul 20, 2005

Hi,I need to extract randomly 5 records from the table "Questions". Now I useSELECT TOP 5 FROM Questions ORDERBY NEWID()And it works. The problem is that I need an additional thing: if SQLextracts record with ID=4, then it should not extract record with ID=9,because they are similar. I mean, I'd like something to tell SQL that if itextracts some questions, then it SHOULD NOT extract other ones.How can I do it?Thanks!Luke

Random Error

Random Unspecified Error

Dec 17, 2007

We have a system that has been running for years and some of the .asp pages haven't been touched in years, but about 10 days ago the same SQL stmts that have always been there have been returning

Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers error '80004005'
Unspecified error

This is on SQL Server 2000
MDAC 2.81.1128.0
Windows 2000 SP4
IIS

The problem is this occurs at random. The statement will execute 5x, then fail once, then run 2 more times and fail again. There isn't a problem with the SQL itself as the same Select stmt will fail or pass randomly. I can also take and execute the stmt manually and it will also pass. There are about 5 places it occurs in our pages. Here is on particular example. Note that DataRS("acc_num") is a valid value and will return just fine if I manually execute it and will pass probably 75% of the time as it is, but 25% of the time will fail with above error.

CMD = "SELECT TOP 1 id, acc_num, businessType, mdCountry, cust_lec, First_Name, Last_Name FROM accounts WHERE (Acc_Num = '" & DataRS("acc_num") & "')"

AccRS.Open CMD, DBConn, adOpenForwardOnly

Not sure at all what is causing this. I've haven't been able to find anything conclusive in the SQL Profiler either.

Any ideas?

Is this the correct version of MDAC? I tried to get the latest, but it was an earlier version .1117.

thanks

Random Ambiguous Column Name Error

Mar 7, 2008

Hi

I have a query that is exhibiting a strange behaviour on different databases.

I've got something like this ...

select a.col, ...
from tab1 as a inner join ...
union
select a.col, ...
from tab1 as a inner join ...
order by col

I know how to fix the problem, I make the last line read "order by a.col" ... that is understood.

However, on some databases I get an error and on others I don't. All databases are on the same server instance which is sql server 2005 developer (developer version isn't relevant as it happens on customer machines too).

I'm just wondering if anyone has any ideas why it is 'random'. It's as though the statement is being compiled differently on different databases ... what is influencing that ?

I'm fishing for a way to create a workaround, so if anyone has any ideas it might push me down the road of understanding why.

The real code is way too big to include here and it's not really relevant.

As a clue to what I'm looking for, if I copy the database to another database using SSIS, the resultant database doesn't cause the error despite being logically the same.

Presumably it is some physical or security difference that is causing the error to occur.

Thanks if you have any ideas,

Richard.

Random Error Occurred While Attempting To Perform A Type Cast, Why?

Apr 17, 2008

Hi all!

I´m having some trouble with a SSIS package that I´ve been using five months or so now.

I have a package scheduled to run every 2 minutes to load data into my SQL Server instance
from our mobile computer systems. This data comes is read as flat file sources. My package runs 24/7.

My problem is that this package randomly returns "An error occurred while attempting to perform a type cast". This message is then returned during maybe 3 or 4 executions of the package. The error then vanishes into thin air, without me doing anything what so ever, and execution continues. The very same file that previously returned the errors is now processed without any problems.

I have no clue why this is, but I get the feeling that there has to be a reason for these random errors. To me, the type cast error seems to indicate problems with the data source (the flat file), but since the same file suddenly get processed without errors I have no clue where to start looking.

Anyone having the same issue?

Regards,

Daniel

Flat File Random Import Error With Ole Db Destination Object

I get errors during import process from flat files to sql table (random missing rows) when I have more files to load through a "for each loop" cycle.
If one of the files is not present (because not yet generated by an other process) many of the rows present in the next file are skipped during import operation. This happens even if the "maximumErrorCount" is set to 10000.
The error reported is Warning: 0x8020200F at Import File Bolle , Source_Bolle [1]: There is a partial row at the end of the file

Random Error 513 Insert Or Update Conflicts With Previous Create Rule

Jan 4, 2007

Hello,

I use ODBC driver to perform SQLServer commands from C/C++ application.

An "INSERT INTO <table> (<column>) VALUES (NULL)" command has a random behavior in a SQL2000 Server running on WindowsXP.

The <column> in this command has 2 definitions about the NULL value :

- the NULL is accepted in the table definition, with <column> ut_oui_non NULL".

- the NULL is rejected in the type definition, with EXEC sp_addtype ut_oui_non, 'char(1)', 'NOT NULL' and a rule to check values with '0' or '1'

1/ The column definition in any explorer show the NULL from table deffinition

2/ The "INSERT INTO" is completed in SQL Query tool, used on Windows2000 and WindowsXP computers, connected to the same SQL2000 server.

3/ The "INSERT INTO" is completed in the application, running on Windows2000 with an ODBC driver to the same SQL2000 server.

4/ The "INSERT INTO" is rejected in the application, running on WindowsXP witjh an ODBC driver to the same SQL2000 server. The error 513 means that INSERT VALUES conflicts with previous rule. So only the type definition seems to be used.

But :

5/ This is a random error, and some INSERT with the same values in this column are completed.

6/ This random error seems to be discarded by using the "Use NULLs, paddings and warnings ANSI" checkbox in the ODBC driver user source configuration.

This checkbox is only use for enforcing the ANSI syntax in SQL commands, and has no known effect on type checking.

Do you know about any conflict of column NULL value between a type definition and a table definition ?

Urgent: Mssql Error Need Help

Jun 3, 2007

I've been working on a project that exchanges data with 2 different mssql dbs. Today I compiled my website and test it locally on remote databases. Everything seemed ok. Then I uploaded all files to the server and after an hour something strange has happened, I do not know why. I could still reach the website locally using remote connstrings but when I try to visit One of the databases could not be connected, ASP.NET said.

An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified)

Interesting thing is that website can authorize the request (I mean I can login) after that it throws this error.

Thanks

Error While Doing DTS From INFORMIX To MSSQL

Apr 13, 2004

Dear All,

I'm using the DTS to transfer data from Informix 7.30 UC9 to MS SQL 2000 Enterprise. The tables I'm transferring contains data for BaaN ERP.

While transferring certain tables, I am successful. On some, I get an error that says "Data overflow". It was caused by "DBTYPE_DBTIMESTAMP".

Any idea why this happens?

Thanks!

Error In Executing Asp&#043;mssql

Feb 9, 2007

Hello,

I hope this forum is suitable for posting my question.

I have a site in asp and vb with an access database. It's work just fine. I want to convert my database from access to mssql express. So I convert it with Microsoft SQL Server Migration Assistant for Access. I also install mssql server on my computer, so I can test my site at home.
But now, I have trouble, I've received many errors like:

[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]Incorrect syntax near '#'.
(this appear when I try to insert date and time in database, witch in access database I have no problem)

ODBC driver does not support the requested properties
(this appears when I make a selection in database, where I use inner join).

And many more ...

Do I have to rewrite the code to all my files? It's so different working with MSSQL comparing with Access database?

From what I read, I understand that after converting the database from Access to MSSQL, I must change only the connection string and the site have no problem. But it seems it's not so easy. I'm pretty disappointed.

Can you give me an advice? Or some links where I can read something that can help me.

Thanks.

MSSQL 2005 Beta Error

Feb 6, 2006

Hi. I have a strange problem. ASP.NET pages works, but when I try to estamblish a connection, I get an error: Shared Memory Provider:Connection was terminated pointing to Connection.Open();.I must say that this same code has worked before and I have some Windows App that works (connects to a the same MSSQL), and ASP.NET pages don't.I've tried to Disable the Shared memory from SQL Configuration Manager, but no luck.The only thing that I've notice is that when I go to IIS Manager and click properties on web site properties and under the ASP.NET tab i combobox I don't have anything, just empty combobox.I repeat that ASP.NET pages working, only when I want to contact the database, error raises.I've tried to instal framework again, hoping that combobox wan't be empty, but it's still the same.Please, help me with this. Iam getting desperate and a little bit angry most of all because this same code has worked before.Thanks.

Hello:

WE followed the microsoft article: " how to use sql mail in Microsoft SQL Server 6.5 with Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft Exchange Server. WE also followed the suggestions outlined in document Q153159:" Troublshooting SQLMAIL with Microsoft Exchange Server.

After following all of the instuctions in both documents we get an error message of 17951:'Failed to start Microsoft Mail Session' when we click on sqlmail under server name in Enterprise Manager.

My network adminsitrator and I are both stumped why this doesn't work.

Has any one encountered this before? How do we resolve this?

Any information which can be provided will be greatly appreciated. THanks.

[mssql] I/O Error While Reading BCP Format File

Feb 29, 2000

Hi All,

I had a problem today where BCP would not read the format file I created giving the following error:

I/O error while reading BCP format file.

I searched the archives here at swynk.com and found a thread titled exactly the same as the one I am now creating. There were numerous responses to this thread but none of them seemed to solve the problem for me (short of the one that suggested using BCP to create the format file, which I didn't want to do).

I used BCP to create a format file for me (which looked identical to the format file that I created) and it worked fine. With my suspicions aroused, I used a binary file viewer to look at the contents of each file and highlight the differences. Apart from the usual variations in whitespace I noticed that the my file did not have any carriage returnline feed at the end of the last row definition.

My format file ended at the end of the last row definition line. It did not have any carriage returns and line feeds. I matched the one generated by BCP and added the following "

" to the end of the file, tested my format file and it worked perfectly.

The moral of the story is, make sure when you create a format file, you have an empty line at the end of the file (ie: after your last "Server Column Name", make sure you have "

" sans quotes).

Hope this saves someone a few hours :-)

Cheers,
Dan.
