Currently, I have the client side of SQL Server 6.5 (Enteprise Manager, Security Manager, Books Online, etc.) installed and running under Windows NT 4.0 Workstation. When I attempt to install the same package under Windows 2000 Professional I get the following message - This program does not run correctly on this version of windows. To continue, click Run Program. Has anyone sucessfully installed this under Windows 2000 Professional? Are there any patches or service packs to apply? Thanks.
Just curious if anyone out there has had success running a Distributed Transaction on Windows 2000 Professional SP4 lately?
I have come to the conclusion that is is virutally impossible. I am running MSDE on a Win2k Pro machine and trying to run a distributed transaction via linked server and am getting the
"The operation could not be performed because the OLE DB provider 'SQLOLEDB' was unable to begin a distributed transaction."
error. Yes I have been scouring the web looking for answers and have implemented pretty much everything I have run accross... and Yes the MSDTC service is started on both machines... BTW: If I run the procedure on XP it works great!!!
I am wondering if anyone even uses Win2k Pro anymore let alone trying to run a distributed tarnsaction on the darn thing.
If anyone out there has it running let me know I would love to chat with you for a minute or two.
The computers here at work run Windows 2000 5.00.2195 SP4. Everything checks out with the minimum requirements at http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/express/support/sqlreadme/#_3462_setup_issues_238p
However, one of the "Reports" from the installation says the machine does not meet the minimum requirements, but provides no details. It installs and I have Admin rights on this machine, but I can't even connect to the Northwind database that I downloaded.
Is this due to our logging process where the "system" is actually in another country? (ie, "CITYNAME/Username"
the service is already automatic, but when starting Windows XP MSDE "asks" to be installed correctly, run setup again and as you can imagine i did so. I can't find the answer
I am trying to install microsoft sql server 2000 enterprise edition on a windows 2000 advance server. I keep getting error message
A previous program installation created pending file operations on the installation machine. You must restart the computer before running . I have restarted machine and no change.
What does error message mean and what is solution?
Dear all,I have XP pro as Operating system.I installed Webmatrix, downloaded SQL 2000 desktop (sql2ksp3), run the command prompt in the directory where dir MSDE of sql2ksp3 was as so: setup.exe SAPWD=hello INSTANCENAME=RMSI lat the installation ran and I got msg that installation ran successfully. So far, so good. From WebMatrix, I tried to add a database connection within a project. When I select SQL-database and click on OK, I get the error message that SQL server administration requires SQL client installed on my machine. In Control Panel - AddRemove Programs, I see indeed that there is no MSSQLserver or client mentionned.I check also the services. The only one I have is SQLADHelper that starts manually. I must have to do with XP security, right... Can someone please please help me. I have a copy of MS Visual Studio 2002 Professional ACADEMIC which Iunderstand is the same as the regular Professional version with theaddition of a student CDROM. The installation program on the firstCDROM only copies the MSDE to the harddrive and the copied setup filehas to then be manually executed to complete the installation. Are the SQL tools such the SQL Enterprise Manager and MS Queryincluded in the professional version? If so, how can I install thesetools? The course that I am taking uses these tools to study SQL. Ifnot, how is the MSDE to be used?
Hi, I am looking at installing SQL Server 7 on my PC which runs Windows 2000 Professional. Can anyone give me some advice before I do the installation of SQL Server 7. Any tips or any problems I might encounter.
Hi, i tried to install SQL Server 2000 Developer and MSDE the whole day on my Windows XP SP2. MDAC is the latest, that come with WinXP SP2 (2.81). The installation fails at the end after 100% complete.
It says: Translated: "the setup programm starts the server and installs the configuration you chose..." ("das setup-programm startet den server und installiert die von ihnen gewählte konfiguration...")
then it takes some time and the failure appears, saying: "the setup programm could not configure the server. you can find more information in the server-failure-log files and in "C:windowssqlstp.log."
I have a Windows 2003 Enterprise x64 edition cluster setup and functioning normally. Now, I am trying to get SQL Server 2000 installed as a failover cluster but am having some difficulty. When installing, I get the message '[sqsrvres] ODBC sqldriverconnect failed' in the event log. The message happens when the installer is trying to bring the SQL Server Service resource online.
I am able to ping the name of the instance successfully. I am able to manually start the 'MSSQL$InstanceName' service. I have turned off the firewall on both machines, but this did not help. I have the DTC Service setup as a resource in the same cluster group.
I also read http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;815431 which seemed promising, but did not reolve the problem.
This is my first time posting, so be gentle as I'm not exactly sure what the protocol here is regarding posting errors.
I'm encountering an issue with an installation of SQL 2005 Express (SQLEXPR_ADV.EXE) on a Windows 2000 Professional SP4 machine (Intel P4 1.8 Ghz). The following error is what I receive:

Notice the time jump; I did this to make sure I was looking at the right log file.
Any help is greatly appreciated as I'll be monitoring this thread closely. Searches of my error show that other people have received it as well, although no resolution has ever been forthcoming. Thanks in advance.
Hello,I am trying to recover a SQL Server 7 database from another hard diskdrive that has a corrupted Windows 2000 Advanced Server installation. Iam not able to repair the corrupted Windows 2000 Advanced Serverinstallation but the file system is intact. I have installed a new copyof SQL Server 7 onto a new hard disk and have used the sp_attach_dbsystem stored procedure to attach the database from the old hard driveinto the new installation of SQL Server 7 on the new hard drive. Thedatabase shows up in the Enterprise Manager View and all the data andstructure are there, but when I try to run a Web site that uses ODBCconnections to the database I get the following error:ODBC Error Code = 08001 (Unable to connect to data source)[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][Named Pipes]Specified SQL servernot found.I have double-checked that all the NTFS permissions, ODBC DSNs, and WebServer settings are correct and when I run the SQL Server ODBC drivertest at the completion of each ODBC DSN setup, it is successfull.1) Why am I getting this ODBC error?2) What steps have I missed in the recovery process?3) If I have done something wrong recovering my database, can I stillrecover it since I still have: a) The old master database file and logfile; b) The old database (non-master) file and log file; c)A backed-up(Enterprise Manager -> Right Click A Database -> All Tasks -> BackupDatabase) copy of the old database (non-master) file; ?My System Specifications:-Windows 2000 Advanced Server-SQL Server 7-IIS 5.0-Cold Fusion Server 4.5 Professional Full EditionThanks For Your Time,Nathan
Please help,I am trying to install MSDE 2000 so that Backup exec will run on thisserver. I have gotten so far as to find an entry in my SQLSTP.TXT filethat says that c:mssql7 was detected so the install fails. Now, to start with there is no directory called C:mssql7 on thisserver. I have gone through all MS articles on manual removal of SQLserver and instances. I have searched the registry for mssql7 andremoved any keys that matched, as per MS article I have searched onSQLBOOT.dll and it is not present anywhere on my system and I still getthe same results.2:07:44 Begin Action: Detection12:07:44 SQL Server version already installed: 7.00.62312:07:44 Previous Install SQL Path: C:MSSQL712:07:44 Previous Install SQL Data Path: C:MSSQL712:07:44 End Action Detection12:07:44 Begin Action: ODBCLocked12:07:44 End Action ODBCLocked12:07:44 GetDefinition returned: 112:07:44 Previous SQL Server ProductType: MSDE [0x4]12:07:44 This combination of Package and Operating System allows a fullproduct install.can anyone think of anything here..what else could be causing the server to think there is a previousversion of SQL 7 on this box!!!?
Excel 2007 Documents Not Displayed in Windows XP Professional sp2 Start Menu's Recent Documents List:
Dear Microsoft Support: I can't figure out how to get recently used Excel 2007 (new file formats) documents to show up in the Windows XP Professional (sp2) Start Menu's Recent Documents List. I checked the Internet, the knowledgebase, many parts of the MS web site, etc. for an answer but can't find one. Are Excel 2007 documents supposed to show up in the XP Start Menu's Recent Document List? Is this a bug or do I have to do some sort of configuration to make it do so? If it's a bug, when will a fix be available?
Are these new Excel 2007 files filtered out like EXE files are which will not appear in the Recent Document List?
The Excel 2007 file types are listed in the Registry.

Hi All I am having a little trouble setting up MSDE. I downloaded the most recent version of MSDE (sql2ksp3.exe) from the Microsoft site to my desktop. I double clcked on the files to extract them, it created a sql2ksp3 dir on c drive. I went to command prompt and entered the following in the c:/sql2ksp3/msde directory: setup.exe DISABLENETWORKPROTOCOLS=1 SAPWD=**REMOVED** then enter. The setup wizard started then finished after about 30 seconds. I can't find MSDE anywhere as program just a folder with the original setup programs. I know this is a total gummy question, can anyone point me in the right direction. I didn't have MSDE or SQL Server prevoiusly on the system. Thanks in advance P
Hi all, I'm trying to install MSDE in silent mode and without using a .ini file (on a machine with windows 2000 server and SQL 2000 already insatalled). At the end of the installation, the machine reboot automatically, but I need to stop this reboot. Someone can help me? Thanks all
I've jumped over from the sister site xtremevbtalk.com to ask the question:
Has anyone ever seen an issue where when installing MSDE, during the installation the pc reboots of its own accord?
After the MDAC is installed as part of the installation the pc reboots and upon boot up, MSDE is not in the program files directory. Instead it's sitting in the C: root. This occurs for a straight MSDE install or with an Instancename install.
There does exist a Microsoft SQL Server folder in the Program Files but it is incomplete. It's missing the Binn folder. Also, there is no reference to MSDE in the Add/Remove programs tool but ther MSDE service does show up in the Services. However I cannot start these as they are pointing to the correct location.
To date, I have tried removing the instance and installation from the registry. I have turned off all AntiVirus software. I have ensured I am using an Admin user profile. I have tried a blank sa passowrd for the installation. all of this is to no avail.
I am seriously stuck with this now and I am in dire need of a resolution so if anybody has any ideas or has seen this one before, I love some help.
Hi I'm trying to install MSDE 2000 on my WIN XP machine using the setup.exe, but it always gives me error saying "set strong sa password" after the message " Please Wait while windows configures Microsoft SQL Server Desktop Engine"
I also tried installing it by command line command below, it shows that its configuring and installing software, but disappears in the middle. I see the SqlServer agent installed and also folders inside C:Program FilesMicrosoft Sql Server folder, but SQL is still not listed in the installed programs
Hi, I've a problem with connecting to my local MSDE installation. I'm using Windows XP Pro SP1 and logged in as administrator.
I've installed MSDE without further options (=setup SAPWD="password"). After that I installed some examples from Microsofts '101 Visual Basic.NET applications' using 'setup SAPWD="password" INSTANCENAME="NetSDK"'. Now I have 2 services running, 'MSSQLServer' and 'MSSQL$NetSDK'.
Then I followed the examples from a german book and created a Dataset etc. to access data from the Northwind database. The following line is created as SQLConnection1:
When I right-click on the SQLDataAdapter1 and select 'Preview Data' everything works fine and I could see 9 Employee records. But when I then start the application it could not connect to the server. The error appears already in the first line, a simple connection call: Me.SqlConnection1.Open()
Please could someone help me solve this issue? I already read several postings, here, on other sides, and on MSDN. I found information about a user account 'APSNET' which I am not allowed to implement due to security reasons. I also found the information about named pipes and TCP/IP, and so I added 'Network Library =dbmssocn' to the end of the SQLConnection-string, but with no success :-(
