Process Suspended Status

Aug 13, 2007

Hello,

On my sql server 2005 when I run sp_who, I often see process in suspended status. These process block
my sql server so its utilization is low.

Is there any way to kill suspended process automatically, or can I set any timeoutfor these process?

Suspended Status

Sep 25, 2007

Hi All,

Using SQL Server 2005 w/ SP2 I have a simple select query with a parameterized WHERE clause that in Management Studio runs nearly instantly, everytime. Using the same login, when I run the same query using SQL RS the results (only 6 rows) takes upwards of 5 minutes. If I look at the Activity Monitor, it shows the process as suspended and indicates a CXPACKET. Everything I have read on the forums about this indicate it is an issue with not having SP2 , which I do. Or a 64 bit version, I have 32. Or for large bulk updates, I am doing a very simple select. Does anyone have any clue on this?

regards
Bill

2005 BACKUP LOG Process Goes To Suspended State For Every DB

Dec 4, 2007

Hello. We recently ran into extremely large transaction log sizes on our SQL 2005 box...turns out they were not being backed up. After doing some research, I found that they should be backed up very frequently in order to kee their sizes down. I kind of inherited the mess, but got three maintenance plans set up:

FULL Backup that runs weekly

DIFFERNTIAL Backup that runs nightly

TRANSACTION LOG backup that runs hourly
However, since I implemented the plans there has been high CPU utilization at all times. I finally figured out what was causing it today...the BACKUP LOG process is hanging in "Suspended" mode when I view processes. I have to manually kill them to release the CPU utilization.

How can I trace the cause of the hang? Is there a better way to backup/truncate the log files?

Matthew

Process Status Sleeping

Jan 6, 2006

I have processes running on the server that show a status of "sleeping" from sp_who and sysprocesses, however they are still running. I run sp_who over and over again and only occasionally the process status shows running, and then switches back to "sleeping" or "defwakeup". I know what all the statuses mean, I just don't know why a running process would ever show as "sleeping". The processes take a very very long time to run as well.

Thanks in advance,
Steve

Process Status Sleeping

Sep 27, 2007

Hi guys,

I may be asking a foolish question but I really need an answer for it.. We have our centralized servere where SQL Server 2005 is installed.... Whenever open the management studio from our desktops, execute some queries (It may be any simple query such as select * from) I find the status of that process 'sleeping'...untill we close the studio or in other words untill that process is killed..

I find the status by Management -> Activity monitor...

Please help me with it...

Has there been anything wrong while setting up Sql Server ?

Please help me ...

Thank you so much...

Process With Status SLEEPING.

Apr 3, 2007

Hi all,

We have a web application with multiple users connecting to SQL Server 2005 database.

Once the users start using the system, I could see in the Process Info from the activity monitor with a several process with status as sleeping and command as Awaiting Command.

I have few questions regarding this for which simple answers would help me ( I searched and couldnt understand from the pages that explained the process information )

My questions are,

1. Does the processes with status sleeping and command as Awaiting Command are needed for the application even after the operations specific to them are complete?

2. Does these process affect the performance ?

3. Does killing these process would affect the application connectivity ?

4. Why do we get several process with status sleeping and command as Awaiting Command? Is this because of the front end programming errors ?

5. What should we do to avoid the increasing number of process with status sleeping and command as Awaiting Command?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

DBLearner.

Please Help! Suspended/Stalled Query

Mar 10, 2007

Hi,

I am having a problem with one package that attempts to do a join on two large tables. Within the data flow task control is the ole db source control which has the initial query that joins and filters the tables.

The total number of rows that should be returned are about 80-90million. Running this in debug mode shows the number of rows read/inserted into the ole db destination and it always hits the about the same number of records where it just stops/stalls/suspends around 75 million. I have read some possible solutions such as changing the max degrees of parrallelism but that has not worked.

I am currently using SQL Server 2005 64bit SP2 on a 64 bit platform. This is the only package that does anything like this and I am at my wit's end with this problem.

Please help!

Thanks,

Calculating Length Of Time A Ticket Was Suspended

I'm trying to find a solution to for a report i am building and was hoping that some of you will share your expertise with me. Basically, I need to work out how long an Incident Ticket was suspended (ie it's status is "on hold").

The data is stored something similar to the following...

333 14/03/2005 15:23:01 "from on hold"

SQL Server 2005 SP2 Cannot Be Installed Because The Database Engine Setup Remains In Suspended Installation Mode

Feb 23, 2007

SP2 refuses to install for the Database Engine because €śthe previous upgrade did not complete€?, i.e. it detects a suspended installation. The same thing happened to me when I installed SP1. I then remember opening the maintenance dialog and completing the setup, after which SP1 installed just fine.

When I try to do the same thing this time, I€™m presented with the €?complete the suspended installation€? option, which when I run it reports the installation completed successfully. However, in reality the installation still remains in suspended mode for whatever reason. If I reboot and open the maintenance dialog, I€™m still presented with the €?complete the suspended installation€? option. I€™ve even tried to run it more than once, but it doesn€™t help. Needless to say, SP2 still refuses to install.

I don't know why the installation is in a suspended state. I know every part of SP1 installed successfully in the end, and the computer never crashed during the installation. I've been using it every day since then, without any problems. All other parts of SP2 did install successfully.

I created a feedback entry on Microsoft Connect, where you can find the log files created by Windows Installer. The URL is:
https://connect.microsoft.com/SQLServer/feedback/ViewFeedback.aspx?FeedbackID=259606

Any ideas what I can do to resolve this problem?

FCB::Open: Operating System Error 32(The Process Cannot Access The File Because It Is Being Used By Another Process.) Occurred W

Dec 3, 2007

Hello all,
I am running into an interesting scenario on my desktop. I'm running developer edition on Windows XP Professional (9.00.3042.00 SP2 Developer Edition). OS is autopatched via corporate policy and I saw some patches go in last week. This machine is also a hand-me-down so I don't have a clean install of the databases on the machine but I am local admin.

So, starting last week after a forced remote reboot (also a policy) I noticed a few of the databases didn't start back up. I chalked it up to the hard shutdown and went along my merry way. Friday however I know I shut my machine down nicely and this morning when I booted up, I was in the same state I was last Wenesday. 7 of the 18 databases on my machine came up with

FCB:pen: Operating system error 32(The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process.) occurred while creating or opening file 'C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.1MSSQLDataTest.mdf'. Diagnose and correct the operating system error, and retry the operation.
and it also logs
FCB:pen failed: Could not open file C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.1MSSQLDataTest.mdf for file number 1. OS error: 32(The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process.).

I've caught references to the auto close feature being a possible culprit, no dice as the databases in question are set to False. Recovery mode varies on the databases from Simple to Full. If I cycle the SQL Server service, whatever transient issue it was having with those files is gone.
As much as I'd love to disable the virus scanner, network security would not be amused. The data and log files appear to have the same permissions as unaffected database files. Nothing's set to read only or archive as I've caught on other forums as possible gremlins. I have sufficient disk space and the databases are set for unrestricted growth.

Any thoughts on what I could look at? If it was everything coming up in RECOVERY_PENDING it's make more sense to me than a hit or miss type of thing I'm experiencing now.

Execute Process Task Error - The Process Exit Code Was 1 While The Expected Was 0.

Jan 30, 2007

How do I use the execute process task? I am trying to unzip the file using the freeware PZUnzip.exe and I tried to place the entire command in a batch file and specified the working directory as the location of the batch file, but the task fails with the error:

SSIS package "IngramWeeklyPOS.dtsx" starting.

Error: 0xC0029151 at Unzip download file, Execute Process Task: In Executing "C:ETLPOSDataIngramWeeklyUnzip.bat" "" at "C:ETLPOSDataIngramWeekly", The process exit code was "1" while the expected was "0".

Task failed: Unzip download file

SSIS package "IngramWeeklyPOS.dtsx" finished: Success.

Then I tried to specify the exe directly in the Executable property and the agruments as the location of the zip file and the directory to unzip the files in, but this time it fails with the following message:

SSIS package "IngramWeeklyPOS.dtsx" starting.

Error: 0xC002F304 at Unzip download file, Execute Process Task: An error occurred with the following error message: "%1 is not a valid Win32 application".

Task failed: Unzip download file

SSIS package "IngramWeeklyPOS.dtsx" finished: Success.

The command in the batch file when run from the command line works perfectly and unzips the file, so there is absolutely no problem with the command, I believe it is just the set up of the variables on the execute process task editor under Process. Any input on resolving this will be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Monisha

Execute Process Task - Error :The Process Exit Code Was 2 While The Expected Was 0.

Mar 20, 2008

I am designing a utility which will keep two similar databases in sync. In other words, copying the new data from db1 to db2 and updating the old data from db1 to db2.

For this I am making use of the 'Tablediff' utility which when provided with server name, database, table info will generate .sql file which can be used to keep the target table in sync with the source table.

I am using the Execute Process Task and the process parameters I am providing are:

WorkingDirectory : C:Program Files (x86)Microsoft SQL Server90COM
Executable : C:SQL_bat_FilesSQL5TC_CTIcustomer.bat

The customer.bat file will have the following code:
tablediff -sourceserver "LV-SQL5" -sourcedatabase "TC_CTI" -sourcetable "CUSTOMER_1" -destinationserver "LV-SQL2" -destinationdatabase "TC_CTI" -destinationtable "CUSTOMER" -f "c:SQL_bat_Filessql5TC_CTIsql_filescustomer1"

the .sql file will be generated at: C:SQL_bat_Filessql5TC_CTIsql_filescustomer1.

The Problem:
The Execute Process Task is working fine, ie., the tables are being compared correctly and the .SQL file is being generated as desired. But the task as such is reporting faliure with the following error :

[Execute Process Task] Error: In Executing "C:SQL_bat_FilesSQL5TC_CTIpackage_occurrence.bat" "" at "C:Program Files (x86)Microsoft SQL Server90COM", The process exit code was "2" while the expected was "0". ]

Some of you may suggest to just set the ForceExecutionResult = Success (infact this is what I am doing now just to get the program working), but, this is not what I desire.

Can anyone help ?

Integration Services :: Dataload Process - Error Capturing Process

Aug 20, 2014

I'm pulling data from Oracle db and load into MS-SQL 2008.For my data type checks during the data load process, what are options to ensure that the data being processed wouldn't fail. such that I can verify first in-hand with the target type of data and then if its valid format load it into destination table else mark it with error flag and push into errors table... All this at the row level. One way I can think of is to load into a staging table then get the source & destination table -column data types, compare them and proceed.

should I just try loading the data directly and if it fails try trouble shooting(which could be a difficult task as I wouldn't know what caused error...)

Transaction (Process ID 66) Was Deadlocked On Lock Resources With Another Process.

Feb 14, 2007

Hi Folks,

I am having this table locking issue that I need to start paying attention to as its getting more frequent.

The problem is that the data in the tables is live finance data that needs to be changed and viewed almost real time so what I have picked up so far is that using 'table Hints' may not be a good idea.

I have a guy at work telling me that introducing a data access layer is the only way to solve this, I am not convinced but havnt enough knowledge to back my own feeling up. (asp system not .net).

Thanks in advance

SQL Server 2008 r2 - 6 GB memory...I attempted a backup on a 500GB database but it was taking way too long. I checked the resources on the box and saw the CPU at 100%. I checked the SQL Server activity log and saw a hung query (user was not even logged on) that had multiple threads so I killed it and now the CPU utilization is back to normal.

Trouble is, now all of the threads in the activity monitor for the backup show 'suspended' and the backup appears to be not doing anything.

I found a workaround by addind a Execute Process Task before the second File System Task that pings to the localhost. This results in a 5 second delay, but there must be a better solution. Anyone?

Data Conversion Failed. The Data Conversion For Column Value Returned Status Value 4 And Status Text Text Was Truncated Or On

Jan 7, 2008

Hi Experts,

I am extracting data from SQL Server 2005 to flat file destination. I am using SQL Command to specify the data selection query. One of my query uses Replicate function to derive a column value. When I execute this package it fails with the error "Data conversion failed. The data conversion for column "value" returned status value 4 and status text "Text was truncated or one or more characters had no match in the target code page".

The reason for the problem is that, it is taking the InputColumnWidth of the flat file destination as 8000 and I specified the OutputColumnWidth as 4.

If I change the OutputColumnWidth to 8000, it is working without any error but resulting in the column width of 8000.

I tried using DerivedColumn Transformation's Type cast and DataConversion Transformation but still I am getting the same error in the respective Transformation components.

Can anyone suggest how to solve this issue.
