Query That Select Extended Procs
Jul 23, 2005Hi

How then I can look all my own procs and dll's?

Hi
If I register my own proc via exec
sp_addextendedproc 'xp_myproc', 'xp_mylib.dll'.
How then I can look all my own procs and dll's?
In which tables are this data saved?
Thx.
What is the procedure to create a extended stored procedure using C#.
Actually we have created a dll file using c# and it was added to the bin folder of mssql server.
Also dll file is added to the sql server using "xp_extendedproc"
But while executing the extended proc we got this error
"ODBC: Msg 0, Level 16, State 1
Cannot load the DLL xp_TestSql.dll, or one of the DLLs it references. Reason: 126(The specified module could not be found.)"
I've written a very simple extended stored proc--little more than what VC++
6.0's ext stored proc wizard generates--set up the xp in the master database,
and eventually want to execute it from a trigger defined on a table in another database...
I've tested the xp in Query Analyzer. If the DB is set to 'master', the xp
runs (exec xp_InputTrigger), no problem. If I change databases and try to run the xp, I get:
Server: Msg 2812, Level 16, State 62, Line 1
Could not find stored procedure 'xp_InputTrigger'.
Keying "exec master.xp_InputTrigger", also fails: Could not find stored procedure 'master.xp_InputTrigger'.
I've checked permissions--all seem to be set right. Anyone have any insight
for me here? Many thanks,
mjo
Is it possible to write extended stored procs in VB? I do not know C or C++ or Perl or whatever ....
How about calling a COM from a stroed procedure???
Thanks,
Judith
What happens if any of the extended stored procs below can't connect to the Exchange server? Is the failure logged? Does it back off and try again later?
xp_startmail
xp_sendmail
xp_findnextmsg
xp_readmail
xp_deletemail
sp_processmail
xp_stopmail
I use this code in a utility procedure (for performance testing) but it is really slow.
For example, a session with three events is taking 5 seconds to complete this query:
DECLARE @xml xml=
(
SELECT CAST(xet.target_data AS xml)
FROM sys.dm_xe_session_targets AS xet
JOIN sys.dm_xe_sessions AS xe
ON (xe.address = xet.event_session_address)
WHERE xe.name = @name
);
with data as
(
select
convert(varchar(128),convert(varbinary(128),'0x'+n.value('(action[@name="context_info"]/value/text())[1]','varchar(128)'),1)) context
, n.value('(data[@name="duration"]/value/text())[1]','int')/1000.0 duration
, n.value('(data[@name="cpu_time"]/value/text())[1]','bigint')/1000.0 cpu_time
, n.value('(data[@name="physical_reads"]/value/text())[1]','bigint') physical_reads
[code].....
So, I was wondering (considering the buffer is usually only holding a few hundred events)
1. Is this the wrong way to query data from a ring buffer?
2. Is there any way to make this code quicker?
3. Is it better to target a file store rather than a ring buffer for this?
select geometry::STGeomFromWKB(0x0106000000020000000103000000010000000B0000001000000000000840000000000000003D

[Code] .....
i have created the folowing function but keep geting an error.
Only functions and extended stored procedures can be executed from within a function.
Why am i getting this error!
Create Function myDateAdd
(@buildd nvarchar(4), @avdate as nvarchar(25))
Returns nvarchar(25)
as
Begin
declare @ret nvarchar(25)
declare @sqlval as nvarchar(3000)
set @sqlval = 'select ''@ret'' = max(realday) from (
select top '+ @buildd +' realday from v_caltable where realday >= '''+ @avdate +''' and prod = 1 )a'
execute sp_executesql @sqlval
return @ret
end
I ran across this technique being used in an application the other day. It seems not a good idea to me. What do you think?
1. The proc builds a basic query, nothing real fancy, into a string variable called @SQL defined as varchar 2000. Depending on the result desired, the group by clause can be one of three different sort orders.
2. The string is executed via EXEC @SQL.
It seems to me that the whole process can eliminate the EXEC and just use some other construct. All the parameters are passed in via the initial call to the stored proc. It also seems that every time this is executed it will result in a new query compile and cache useage, no matter what. Wasteful? Should I take the developers aside and knock heads? I think the app was coded by some folks who were rookies then but may be willing to crack open their code. Or, am I the one that is a rookie?
Thanks for your inputs.
Is there a way to namespace groups of stored procs to reduce confusion when using them?
For C# you can have ProjectName.ProjectSection.Classname when naming a class. I am just wondering if there is a way to do the same with SQL stored procs. I know Oracle has packages and the name of the package provides a namespace for all of the stored procs inside it.
Not sure if this is possible, but maybe. I have a table that contains a bunch of logs.
I'm doing something like SELECT * FROM LOGS. The primary key in this table is LogID.
I have another table that contains error messages. Each LogID could have multiple error messages associated with it. To get the error messages.
When I perform my first select query listed above, I would like one of the columns to be populated with ALL the error messages for that particular LogID (SELECT * FROM ERRORS WHERE LogID = MyLogID).
Any thoughts as to how I could accomplish such a daring feat?
Hi, not exactly too sure if this can be done but I have a need to run a query which will return a list of values from 1 column. Then I need to iterate this list to produce the resultset for return.
This is implemented as a stored procedure
declare @OwnerIdent varchar(7)
set @OwnerIdent='A12345B'
SELECT table1.val1 FROM table1 INNER JOIN table2
ON table1. Ident = table2.Ident
WHERE table2.Ident = @OwnerIdent
'Now for each result of the above I need to run the below query
SELECT Clients.Name , Clients.Address1 ,
Clients.BPhone, Clients.email
FROM Clients INNER JOIN Growers ON Clients.ClientKey = Growers.ClientKey
WHERE Growers.PIN = @newpin)
'@newpin being the result from first query
Any help appreciated
HI,
CREATE PROCEDURE PROC1
AS
BEGIN
SELECT A.INTCUSTOMERID,A.CHREMAIL,B.INTPREFERENCEID,C.CHR PREFERENCEDESC
FROM CUSTOMER A
INNER JOIN CUSTOMERPREFERENCE B
ON A.INTCUSTOMERID = B.INTCUSTOMERID
INNER JOIN TMPREFERENCE C
ON B.INTPREFERENCEID = C.INTPREFERENCEID
WHERE B.INTPREFERENCEID IN (6,7,2,3,12,10)
ORDER BY B.INTCUSTOMERID
END
IF I AM USING THIS PROC AS I/P TO ANOTHER PROC THEN IT GIVES NO PROBLEM AS I CAN USE ?
CREATE PROCEDURE PROC2
AS
BEGIN
CREATE TABLE #SAATHI(INTCUSTOMERID INT,CHREMAIL NVARCHAR(60),INTPREFERENCEID INT,CHRPREFERENCEDESC NVARCHAR(50))
INSERT INTO #SAATHI
EXEC PROC1
ST......1,
ST......2,
END.
BUT IF , I USE ANOTHER PROC SIMILAR TO THE FIRST ONE WHICH GIVES SLIGHTLY DIFFERENT RESULTS AND GIVES TWO SETS OF RESULTS,THEN WE HAVE A PROBLEM,HO TO SOLVE THIS :-
CREATE PROCEDURE MY_PROC
AS
BEGIN
SELECT A.INTCUSTOMERID,A.CHREMAIL,B.INTPREFERENCEID,C.CHR PREFERENCEDESC
FROM CUSTOMER A
INNER JOIN CUSTOMERPREFERENCE B
ON A.INTCUSTOMERID = B.INTCUSTOMERID
INNER JOIN TMPREFERENCE C
ON B.INTPREFERENCEID = C.INTPREFERENCEID
WHERE B.INTPREFERENCEID IN (23,12,10)
ORDER BY B.INTCUSTOMERID
END
SELECT A.INTCUSTOMERID,MAX(case when A.intpreferenceid = 23 then '1'
else '0' end) +
MAX(case when A.intpreferenceid = 12 then '1'
else '0' end) +
MAX(case when A.intpreferenceid = 10 then '1'
else '0' end) AS PREFER
FROM CUSTOMER
GROUP BY A.INTCUSTOMERID
ORDER BY A.INTCUSTOMERID
END
WHICH NOW GIVES ME TWO SETS OF DATA , BOTH REQUIRED THEN HOW TO USE ONE SET OF RESULTS AS I/P TO ANOTHER PROC AND OTHER SET OF RESULTS AS I/P TO YET ANOTHER PROC .
CREATE PROCEDURE PROC2
AS
BEGIN
CREATE TABLE #SAATHI(INTCUSTOMERID INT,CHREMAIL NVARCHAR(60),INTPREFERENCEID INT,CHRPREFERENCEDESC NVARCHAR(50))
INSERT INTO #SAATHI
EXEC MY_PROC
ST......1,
ST......2,
END.
BUT, HERE I WANT TO USE FIRST DATASET ONLY , HOW TO USE IT ?
THANKS.
When I run simple select against my view in Query Analyzer, I get result set in one sort order. The sort order differs, when I BCP the same view. Using third technique i.e. Select Into, I have observed the sort order is again different in the resulting table. My question is what is the difference in mechanisim of query analyzer, bcp, and select into.
Thanks
have a table with students details in it, i want to select all the students who joined a class on a particular day and then i need another query to select all students who joined classes over the course of date range eg 03/12/2003 to 12/12/2003.
i have tried with the following query, i need help putting my queries together
select * from tblstudents where classID='1' and studentstartdate between ('03/12/2004') and ('03/12/2004')
when i run this query i get this message
Server: Msg 242, Level 16, State 3, Line 1
The conversion of a char data type to a datetime data type resulted in an out-of-range datetime value.
the studentstartdate field is set as datetime 8 and the date looks like this in the table 03/12/2004 03:12:15

I have a query that performs a comparison between 2 different databases and returns the results of the comparison. It returns 2 columns. The 1st column is the value of the object being compared, and the 2nd column is a number representing any discrepancies. What I would like to do is use the results from this 1st query in the where clause of another separate query so that this 2nd query will only run for any primary values from the 1st query where a secondary value in the 1st query is not equal to zero.I was thinking of using an "IN" function in the 2nd query to pull data from the 1st column in the 1st query where the 2nd column in the 1st query != 0, but I'm having trouble ironing out the correct syntax, and conceptualizing this optimally.
While I would prefer to only return values from the 1st query where the comparison value != 0 in order to have a concise list to work with, I am having difficulty in that the comparison value is a mathematical calculation of 2 different tables in 2 different databases, and so far I've been forced to include it in the select criteria because the where clause does not accept it.Also, I am not a DBA by trade. I am a system administrator writing SQL code for reporting data from an application I support.
I have a column colC in a table myTable that has a value (e.g. '0X'). The position of a non-zero character in column colC refers to the ordinal position of another column in the table myTable (in the aforementioned example, colB).
To get a column name (i.e., colA or colB) from table myTable, I can join ("ON cte.pos = cn.ORDINAL_POSITION") to INFORMATION_SCHEMA.COLUMNS for that table catalog, schema and name. But I want to show the value of what is in that column (e.g., 'ABC'), not just the name. Hoping for:
COLUMN_NAME Value
----------- -----
colB 123
colA XYZ
I've tried dynamic SQL to no success, probably not executing the concept correctly...
Below is what I have:
CREATE TABLE myTable (colA VARCHAR(3), colB VARCHAR(3), colC VARCHAR(3))
INSERT INTO myTable (colA, colB, colC) VALUES ('ABC', '123', '0X')
INSERT INTO myTable (colA, colB, colC) VALUES ('XYZ', '789', 'X0')
;WITH cte AS
(
SELECT CAST(PATINDEX('%[^0]%', colC) AS SMALLINT) pos, STUFF(colC, 1, PATINDEX('%[^0]%', colC), '') colC
[Code] ....
Hello,
I hope someone can answer this, I'm not even sure where to start looking for documentation on this. The SQL query I'm referencing is included at the bottom of this post.
I have a query with 3 select statements joined together like tables. It works great, except for the fact that I need to declare a variable and make it a table within two of those 3. The example is below. You'll see that I have three select statements made into tables A, B, and C, and that table A has a variable @years, which is a table.
This works when I just run table A by itself, but when I execute the entire query, I get an error about the "declare" keyword, and then some other errors near the word "as" and the ")" character. These are some of those errors that I find pretty meaningless that just mean I've really thrown something off.
So, am I not allowed to declare a variable within these SELECT tables that I'm creating and joining?
Thanks in advance,
Andy

hi, does it make a difference to write the following select statement in either query window or create a sp and then calling the store procedure to be executed..
select * from authors
OR
create procedure authors as
select * from authors
lets assume that we have million records in the author table. is it faster to run the query from within a store procedure or not ?
thanks for your input

i'm calling a create table SQL from my ASP. There are a lot of fields created
by this sql. Wondering if an extended stored procedure would be a better choice? (can't use a stored procedure as i need to pass arrays) Will it enhance performance and also, can i use VB to make that DLL or i need to use VC?
thanks

Hi,
Please help me with an SQL Query that fetches all the records from the three tables but a unique record for each forum and topicid with the maximum lastpostdate. I have to bind the result to a GridView. Please provide separate solutions for SqlServer2000/2005.
I have three tables namely – Forums,Topics and Threads in SQL Server2000 (scripts for table creation and insertion of test data given at the end). Now, I have formulated a query as below :-
SELECT ALL f.forumid,t.topicid,t.name,th.author,th.lastpostdate,(select count(threadid) from threads where topicid=t.topicid) as NoOfThreads
FROM
Forums f FULL JOIN Topics t ON f.forumid=t.forumid
FULL JOIN Threads th ON t.topicid=th.topicid
GROUP BY t.topicid,f.forumid,t.name,th.author,th.lastpostdate
ORDER BY t.topicid ASC,th.lastpostdate DESC
Whose result set is as below:-
forumid
topicid
name
author
lastpostdate
NoOfThreads

I created an extended procedure DLL according to the guidelines set forth in the Books Online. I placed this DLL to be called in a trigger. The DLL fires, but some aspects of the dll fail. Is there a C lang. limitation when used with SQL server? I can do file i/o in the dll (open a file, write to it) but other functions such as C API functions FindWindow / SendMessage always fail. I have tested the DLL outside of SQL server and it works fine. Whats up, I can't beleive that Microsoft would write SQLServer where only certain functions of the DLL called by SQL server will work.. Any ideas would be appreciated! KT
View 1 Replies View RelatedHey everyone,
I'm attempting to copy over extended procedures from another database, and it's only copying stored when I use the "Transfer Database" wizard. Anyone know why it doesn't copy extended, and how I can get it to? Thanks!

Hi all,
Plz help me to know whats wrong with following script:
EXEC sp_addextendedproperty
@name = 'col_Programs_ID_Description',
@Value = 'The Unique Identifier for a specific Program',
@level1Type = 'Programs',
@level2Type = 'ID'
I get the following error:
Server: Msg 15600, Level 15, State 1, Procedure sp_addextendedproperty, Line 42
An invalid parameter or option was specified for procedure 'sp_addextendedproperty'.
NOTE: If I dont use the last 2 parameters this procedure runs fine, but it adds the Extended Property to the Database Level while I'm trying to add it to the TABLE-->COLUMN level.
Thanks
Mariah
I have to write a stored procedure to gather .dat files from multiple network shares to a single location and bulk insert them using format files. I have the SP working that accepts the filename and performs the bulk insert into my SQL tables using the appropriate format file.
Now, I had originally wrote the "copy files" portion in VB using the FSO, but was told it has to all be in a SQL SP. I have been investigating the xp_cmdshell extended procedure, which would work if I weren't pulling the .dat files from a Novell volume. For example connecting to a windows share this works...
exec xp_cmdshell 'dir servershare', no_output
but not when using a servervolume (Novell), even though from the command prompt this command will work to the novell volume.
Does anyone know of any other extended procedure or method in T-SQL that can perform file system functions?
Thanks in advance for any help!
I would like to know if I can determine the calling user from withinan extended stored procedure. I assume it's accessible in theSRV_PROC structure somewhere. Also, does anyone know of a comprehensive list of what is included inthe SRV_PROC structure? This is for SQL Server 2000.Thanks

Does anyone know of a good primer on extended properties and why I would want to use them. I have you the on-line books sections but that does a clear "why". I have search for white papers and similar documents.
I understand they are good for documentation, but I was looking for something that explain Microsoft long-term vision. How I might use them in template scripts, VSTS, etc.
Thanks in advance for your help.

Can anyone tell me how to use the extended stored property like sp_addextendedproperty in java code?
Thanks,

almost choked when i read the following recent post on The Daily WTF (http://thedailywtf.com/) the other day --
Logical Tiers? That Makes No Sense! (http://thedailywtf.com/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=28959)
i don't think i can do justice to how utterly stupid that stored procedure is
read the comments and have a laugh
one of the points made was that stored procedures are bad
this twigged something in my memory, so i dug around in my bookmarks, and sure enough, here's another decent discussion about stored procs --
Stored procedures are bad, m'kay? (http://weblogs.asp.net/fbouma/archive/2003/11/18/38178.aspx)

Hey guys.
I am wondering if it is possible to execute an .exe from a stored proc. I have an application that calls a stored proc and I am wanting for that stored proc to call up an app to show certain results. I have no way of doing this on the application itself as I dont have the source code. So, since I do have access to the SQL I am wondering if it could be done there.
Thanks
