Hi
We would like to install Sql 2005 Enterprise Edition (including database engine, reporting service, integration service and analysis service) as a sepearte instance on a server which already has Sql 2000 with reporting services and analysis services. We do not want to disturb the existing sql 2000 setup.
If we do that then what will happen to my earlier sql 2000 reporting service? Will it be upgraded to sql 2005 reporting service? I heard that reporting services are instance unaware application. Where will be the default reporting service database available?
Please help us.

I already had MSDE installed on my laptop and I was trying to load the Client Tools. I stopped the MSDE service, then tried to install the Client Tools from the SQL Server 2000 Standard Edition (Personal Edition) CD. Near the end of the install, I received an error telling me that the C:Program FilesCommon FilesMicrosoft SharedSQL Debuggingsqldbg.dll file was in use and it would not complete the install.
So, I removed the MSDE thru Add/Remove programs, rebooted, then tried to install SQL Server 2000 Std Ed (Personal Ed) and the Client Tools from the CD. Same error message. I used My Computer to try to go to that folder and see the sqldbg.dll file, but when I try to open the folder it tells me "Access is denied".
Obviously, something is using this file, but I'm not sure where to go from here. Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Chris

Hi All,
I am facing a familiar issue, with a slight variance in the situation. I have already spent hours googling for a solution, so along with the problem I'll highlight what I have already tried to remedy it.
Problem
--------
I am trying to install SQL Server 2000 Dev. Edition on my Win XP SP1 platform. I did a default instance installation. I am able to start up the server and keep it up.
Issue
-----
On opening the Enterprise Manager I get the error, "SQLDMO.DLL not registered, re-run SQL Server setup etc."
Next I navigated to <install dir>Microsoft SQL Server80ToolsBinn and executed regsvr32 sqldmo.dll and I get the following error, "LoadLibrary("sqldmo.dll") failed - Invalid Access to Memory Location"
Comments
----------
I have verified that all the relevant dlls are present in the above and <...>system32 folders. I have also created an alias for the server using the client network utility.
There was a time when I had installed SQL Server 2000 previously and I did manage to get it to work, even the sqldmo.dll registeration bit. But uninstalled it subsequently as I was having space issues.
Since then I have installed various XP hotfixes and security fixes, except for Win XP SP2
Any thoughts, anyone?????

I'm trying to remember how to install the SQL 2000 client tools onto a SQL 2005 server. There are a couple of bizarre steps that will allow this to happen, but I can't for the life of me remember what comes after the unicycle down the stairs with the umbrella stand of machetes.
Can anybody remember the magic, or do I resort to using VPC to kludge the install until I can find my clay tablets again?

I'm trying to install Service Pack 4 to our default instance of SQL Server 2000 with SP3a, on a Windows 2003 Server, which also has a named instance of SQL Server 2005 on it and a named instance of SQL Server 2000 with SP4.
The installation appears to be running just fine, but MUCH too quickly. The last window appears stating something along the lines of 'Updating Active X components'. I'm expecting the scripts to run to update my system stored procedures, etc., but that never occurs. The installer just quits.
No errors in the Windows logs, nor in SQL, and no C:WindowsSQLSP.log file.
I tried the installation again, but this time used a different copy of the service pack 4 installer, with the same results, and again no SQLSP.log file.
Since I was going to remove the named instance of SQL Server 2000 anyway, I verified that my SP4 installer was good by uninstalling the named instance of SQL Server (the one with SP4 already), reinstalling a named instance of SQL Server 2000, and reapplying SP4 to this named instance. Everything went flawlessly.
I then tried reapplying SP4 to the default instance of SQL Server 2000, and this time a SQLSP.log file was finally generated. In the error log, the last entries are:
19:10:03 C:PROGRA~1COMMON~1MICROS~1SQLDEB~1SQLDBR~1.EXE sqldbreg2.exe -RegServer
19:10:04 An error occurred while setting the registry value for: SoftwareMicrosoftMSSQLServerMSSQLServer
19:10:04 Could not restore AuditLevel registry key
19:10:04 Action CleanUpInstall:
19:10:04 Installation Failed.
I confirmed that the service accounts that are running SQL Server both have local administrative access to the server (which may or may not matter), and that they are both sysadmin, so I don't think it's a permissions issue to the registry. I've also verified that the account I was using to run the SP installation also has local admin access on that box.
So, I compared my HKLMSoftwareMicrosoftMSSQLServerMSSQLServer registry entry from our production server to the one on the test server, I see that our test server's entry is completely empty. On production there are numerous subkeys, such as CurrentVersion and RPCNetLib.
I'm planning on copying the registry entries from production to test. Should this be sufficient, or are there other things I should look out for?

How to install replication component for SQL server 2000 sp4? I would like to replicate datas between SQL2K and SQL CE 2.0/3.0
I update SQL server 2000 sp4 as the following sequence:
(1) install replication component for SQL server 2000 sp4
(2) install update package of SQL2000.MSDE-KB884525-SP4-x86-ENU.exe
(3) install update package of SQL2000-KB884525-SP4-x86-ENU.exe
(4) install update package of SQL2000.AS-KB884525-SP4-x86-ENU.exe
After that, I would like to add replication in the property page. But it failed and I was informed that €œI should cancel the registration of this SQL 2000 instance since it is a virtual instance such as . or local. I should register a real instance with local machine€™s name€?. What€™s wrong with it?
B.T.W:
(1)I install SQL server 2000 in virtual PC with XP/SP2.
(2) IIS is not installed on the virtual machine.

Hello,
Sorry for my question, I know, that there were several topics about sql 2000 vs SQL 2005, I read all them but unfortunately I haven't got the correct answer. I must install my intranet application that uses asp.net 2.0 and SQL 2005 Express to a Windows 2003 server with SQL 2000. It is possible to install SQL 2005 Express beside the 2000 server? It is very important, because I have no possibility to test and that Win2003 server there are a few programs that use SQL 2000. What will happen with the 2000 databases and their programs if I install the 2005 Express to the server? They will work fine with 2000 and my application will work with 2005?
Or instead it should I configure my application to use 2000 capable connentionstrings?

Hello.
Has anyone attempted and successfully installed SQL Server 2000 SP4
via remote desktop on the cluster.
The reason I am asking is that SP4 readme file has this:
"...
4.3 Systems Management Server Distributed Installation
You cannot install Database Components SP4 from a remote location.
..."
Currently SQL Server has SP3a installed.
Thank you in advance.

I know this is old database but when I download this evaluation from microsoft website, I got problem installing it. First, I unzip it. By default, it is unzip to C:SQLEVAL. Then, I went to install it. I don't which file I should click. So, I double click the autorun file. When I did that, there is a screen, I saw the screen saying "microsoft SQL Server 2000 Evaluation version". Then, I click "SQL Server 2000 Components"
Then, it comes to next page, and I click "Install Database Server". But after I did that, nothing happens! After I click again the same thing all over again, it says "Another instance of setup is already running".
I'm using Window XP Professional. Anyone encounter this problem before? I tried to re-download the file and reinstall but also the same problem. Really need help. Thanks.

We are trying to quickly put together what needs to be accomplished to install a named instance of SQL Server 2000 on an existing production server (also running SQL Server 2000). It appears as if the install will require a reboot. Can the reboot be postponed until after-hours without impacting the default instance of SQL Server?
Also, I see that if certain services are stopped prior to installing sp4 that you can avoid a reboot. However, if we are unable to stop these services (DTC, for example) without impacting the default instance of SQL Server, will the default instance of SQL Server experience any issues if we postpone the post-sp4 reboot until after hours?
Thanks!

Hi
I am new to this sql server thing. And for last couple of days i m trying to figure out whether we can install sql server 2000 ent edition in a server after installing or upgrading sql server 2005 from (sql server 2000) . As sql server 2005 is know to exist side by side with earlier sql server versions .
And coming to the problem which i m facing is , I have installed sql server 2005 ent in windows 2000 server in which sql server 2000 is residing.Later when i observerd i realised that actually i have upgraded 2000 to sql 2005 server (which i hav done after consulting many people). As a result few of the client systems which were running sql server personal edition were unable to access their data from the database. For temporary relief i have installed sql server 2005 express edition plus management studio in the client systems . The doubts which i am having are
1) what happens if i uninstall sql server 2005
2) Is it possible to install sql server 2000 ent edition now to work along with sql server 2005
thanks in advance .....waiting for your quick replies ..any idea's
