ok when i upload my databases that i created in VS2005, they are read only.
so i though something was just funny, so i installed sql managment studio on the server and attached the databases, and when i attached them there grey with (READ-ONLY) displayed... how can i get my DB's out of read only! i tryied going through the properties of the DB through MSSQL managenet studio but that only generates an error...
any ideas!
We have a client with several databases in read-only mode. When we try and take the dbs out of read-only, we get the path to the mdf files may be incorrect, which they are not. SQL 2000, SP3a. Has anybody seen this? The files themselves are not read-only, I gave the network services account full control and still nothing. The issue started when the client lost power, lasst week, the dbs came up suspect. Detach/Attach brought them back up in single user.

About a month ago, a couple of our databases started up in read-only mode for some reason. I am the new DBA on the job, and the error logs from a month ago are not present.
I was wondering if anyone has had a problem where a SQLServer 7.0 database did this to them? We restart our DBs each day using scripts, so it is odd that this happens only intermittently (no one has seen a pattern at this point).
Any information would be muc appreciated!

How can I provide a user read only access to all the databases on the server. I have 15 databases on the server. I know I can give db_datareader access in each database individually but that is time consuming and I have 10 servers for this to be done.

I was reading that many of these high traffic websites actually have 2 databases, 1 database is used ONLY for reads, while the other is for writes.
How does one go about creating such a setup? How does the database where writes are allowed replicated the data to the read only database server?
We have several read-only nodes in our AlwaysOn cluster, which are set to use Synchronous-commit mode, which ensures that the logs are updated on the read-only nodes before any update statements complete. Even with this option, if we query a read-only node before the logs have been processed, we can read old data. I would like to know a strategy to ensure that a read-only query will definitely return up to date information. I had an idea that if I just used a different transaction type, like Serializable, that it might block the read-only query from actually getting the data until after the log file was processed, but I have not tried it, yet.
I would like to move more queries to the read-only nodes, in an effort to offload CPU utilization from the primary node.

I have two database files, one .mdf and one .ndf. The creator of these files has marked them readonly. I want to "attach" these files to a new database, but cannot do so because they are read-only. I get this message:

i have a database which get refreshed every day from client's data . and we need to pull heavy data from them every day as reports . so only selects happens on that database.
we do daily population of some table in some other databases from this daily refreshed DB.
will read uncommitted or NOLOCK with select queries to retrieve data faster.
there will be no dirty read as there are NO DML operation in that database so for SELECT which happens concurrently on these tables , will NOLOCK work?

The page works perfectly when I created it with WebMatrix but I want to learn more about creating code behind pages and this page doesn't work. I think it has some things to do with Query builder but I can't seem to get change outside "please register". I have the table populated and it is not coming back with "login successful" or "password wrong" when I've entered correct information. Enclosed is what I've done in VS2003. Can you see where my error is? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Dear Readers,Is it possible, like in Access, to link to tables in other SQL databases that are on the same server? I have a query that I originally had in Access that queered from multiply databases. It did this by having those other tables in the other databases linked to the database that had the query.
I just restored my SQL server 2000 database on the SQL server 2005. after this i ran the Service broker sample ("Hello World") on this database by changing the AdventureWorks name to the new database name. The "setup.sql" runs fine. When i run the "SendMessage.sql" i was not getting any rows in the output (The message was not getting inserted into the queue). I checked the Service broker is enabled on this databased using the query "select is_broker_enabled from sys.databases where name = 'newdbname' " It was 1. I even tried the ALTER DATABASE SET ENABLE_BROKER. but it didnt work.
When i tried the sample on a newly created database it worked fine.
Is there any solution to make the restored database to work for service broker.

looking for SQL Guru who can tell me what I'm doing wrong with the following VB executable which runs on the server, I'm getting the error,

Seems straight forward but I can delete records from this table remotely via an active server page (asp) no problem.

The new databound controls are great, but somehow doing the simpler things has gotten harder.The code is in a function that is passed pollid. I want to use SqlDataSource to get the smallest value of answerid where pollid = the value passed for pollid. But If i have another process that try to read the Table if that old transaction running.. it wouldn't Allow me to read the DATA.
i tried Isolation level "snapshot" but that works under sql server 2005 only. so i can not use that. And i have some services that will run during day time.
So if anybody have solution to read the data from table...from sql server 2000 even if another transaction is running?
Please Give any guideline..Help will be appriciated.
