I am trying to conncet to an SQL Server that is on the net. The name of the server looks like : sqlServer.TheCompanyOwingIt.Com and it listens to port 2433
I am opening enterprise manager and trying to connect ,giving the name of the server and the credentials but no luck. I also tried opening hte client Network utility , created an alias for that server, specifying 2433 as the port but no luck again. Finally i tried to change the port of my sql server to be 2433 (instead of 1433), no luck again !!! Any ideas ? (there is no firewall running on the PC, but there is a router which might (?) cause the problem ? (i tried to port forward 2433 , but i am not sure if i did it correctly).
Any ideas, suggestions will be greatly appreciated
We have SQL cluster installed on top of windows cluster on VM environment. Node1 and Node2 under Windows Failover Cluster. SQL instance is currently on node2 the instance is up and running, but SQL Cluster service remains online pending and it restarts the instance on every 5 minutes.
SQL Browser service are running successfully.TCP/IP ports are enabled and configured. If we start the SQL server agent it is on for seconds and stopped immediately  .Cluster Service is attempt to connect to the SQL service every few minutes (setting in SQL cluster resource) for the IsAlive check, if this fails then the SQL resource is restarted even if the instance was online. Hope this is what happening exactly.

Hi, Iam learning asp.net myself . I've installed SQL Server7.0 in my PC. How will I register a server for example: localhost using enterprise manager. I keep getting error message: Specified SQL Server not found
1)I AM NOT ABLE TO REGISTER MY SERVER (S1) WITH ANOTHER SERVER (S2), BUT AT THE SAME TIME I AM ABLE TO REGISTER SERVER (S2) FROM MY ENTER PRISE MNAGER.
When converting from 6.5 to 7 the Servers I had registered under 6.5 were still available. When I try to connect to them the old 6.5 Enterprise Manager starts up and I really like this ability.
I would like to register a new 6.5 Server while running 7.0
I'm developing on 7.0 and thus would like to keep my machine running 7, but need to add 6.5 servers on occasion. Any suggestions. (I think if I switch to 6.5 and register that will work, but don't want to switch)
I loaded a microsoft SQL server training CD. When i go to enterprise manager i am prompted for a server. I checked the online books and it says that i should use the compter name. This does not work. My dialog box that i am using to enter the computer name, logon ID, and password is titled connect server. The documented information has Register server for the title of the dialog box. Is there a difference? What am i doing wrong? I am not able to connect the server at all. This is a training disk and is only good for 120 days. I am running out of time and i have not even started.
Really would like some help from anyone who has experienced this problem. I installed SQL server v6.5 on my machine. I selected communication options TCP/IP and Named Pipes and took all the other defaults. After receiving the `installed ok` message, I went on to register the server and received the following msg. A connection cannot be established to A0194876 [DB Library] Unable to connect. SQL server is unavailable or does not exist. My machine name is, A0194876. I have tried changing the machine name, rebooting, etc. but nothing works.
We are facing problems in registering server in MS-SQL Server 6.5. We are getting CODE EXCEPTION error. We tried unistalling SQL Server and Re-Installing again. In spite of this, it is still giving the same error. We happen to change the HOST name of the NT Server m/c on which the SQL Server resides once. What could have possibly gone wrong. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I installed SQL Server 2000 (Standard Edition) on my desktop running Win2K Pro. During installation, a message indicated that only the client tools could be installed on this version (I assume it was referring to Win2K Pro). No errors were encountered during installation.
Now, I am trying to figure out how to get started working with SQL Server 2000. I opened the Enterprise Manager and have tried to register a SQL Server using the wizard to register a SQL Server. I then selected my computer name under the available servers list and then chose Windows Authentication to connect. On the next wizard screen I then chose to add the SQL Server to the default group name (SQL Server Group). After clicking on the Finish button, the Status block on the last screen indicates "SQL Server does not exist or access denied."
I'm having difficulty with registering a new SQL server across a network. I'm guessing it's something to do with the authentication method, but as of yet I can't get it to work. I recieve the message
"Login failed for user 'computername/Guest' "
Curiously, doing things the other way round (registering this server on the other one across the network) works absolutely fine, and as far as I can tell I have them set up exactly the same.
Can someone tell me if it is possible to register and connect to a SQL server that is not on my local network? I want to be able to use the Enterprise Manager to make updates to the SQL servers in my office from home. I am using SQL 7.0
I want register a server it is on other PC is a server, BUT IT SHOW TO ME A MESSAGE OF ERROR: Errors ocurred while connecting to ----ip----- Cannot open connection to Analysis server ----ip----- Can not connect a server ----ip-----. not this in operation or this occupied Do you still Want to register this server
Got error message when trying to register sql server: NYCPI - SQL Server does not exist or access denied. ConnectionOpen(connect()
where NYCPI is my remote server name which has sql server in it.
When the registration wizard display a list of available servers, NYCPI appear twice in the available server list. But this problem is not exist in another machine. I tried register this sql server from another server and it is working in the second machine.
I am currently trying to connect to a SQL Server instance with my host provider. I am having issues trying to connect to it.
I am using a Linkysys router and I have opened up the ports that SQL Server needs but I am getting an error - "SQL Server does not exist or Access denied". I've contacted the support but they are telling me it is an error on my end.
I have installed SQL6.5 on my NT4.0 server. I go into the enterprise manager. There are currently no registered servers. I try to add a server under the SQL 6.5 group and get the following message:
"Unable to connect to Server(reason [SQL Server Login failed]. Register Anyway?"
The service is running. I can login through the command prompt, but when I type select @@servername it comes back as NULL. I have tried both my NT SA account as well as the SQLExecutiveCmdExec account. TIA - pwb

I have a user who can't register the SSIS server in SMS. What permissions do I need to give him to allow this ... without making him sysadmin of course?
I am having seriuos problems getting VoIP traffic into and out of my network via the ISA server which we just newly installed.
My network topology is such that the phones i am using for the VoIP service, sitting inside my network and behind the ISA server, have to register to some remote proxy server outside my network and as soon as it registers i can begin using the service. The VoIP service is on the platform of SIP and uses udp ports 5060 and 8080.
I have permitted the necessary ports on the ISA server for the service being UDP port 5060 and 8080 but still cannot get my VoIp traffic through the server.
Please i need some help here as regards something i am supposed to do or something i am not doing right on the ISA server to permit my traffic.
I am a newbie to this Microsoft ISA server and i hope you all understand
I want to create a database on my local machine and work with it. But I am not able to see the name of my local server under "Database Engine" in the list of "Registered Servers".
Options I tried:
(1) In Registered Servers window, On Database Engine, I right clicked and in that selected "Update Local Server Registration"
(2) In Registered Servers window, On Database Engine, I right clicked and in that selected "New" -> Server Registration. In "New Server Registration" Window, in "Server Name" drop down I clicked "Browse for more" but still in "Browse for Servers" window, I am not able to see the name of my local server in "Local Servers" tag under Database Engine.
(3) If I do File -> Connect Object Explorer -> Connect to Server window in "Server name" drop down box, if I click "Browse for more", I am able to see local server name eg. "XYZ" under Analysis Services, Reporting Services, and Integration Services but not under "Database Engine"
Please help me create a new database engine in SQL Server 2005 or list my local server under "Database engine" ?
I'm trying to installed SQL 2000 on a NT 4.0 Platform locally. When I followed the wizard and specified the name of the server which is my machine name. I received the following message : "SQL Server does not exist or access denied. Connection open Connect()".

When I try to register a server in Analysis Services I get a error saying 'Automation error' and I also get a message saying Unable to open Registry Key 'SOFTWAREMICROSOFTOLAP ServerOLAP Manager'
I am really new to SQL Server. I have trying to create/register a server. I came to know that I need to go to Query Analayser and then register a Server. Then in Enterprise Manager I need to register a Group. I did everything.
But...
Here is the error.
Unable to connect server. Server: Msg 17, Level 16, State 1
[Microsoft] [ODBC SQL Server Driver] [Shared Memory]
SQL Server does not exit or access denied.
I really appreciate if u can give me steps. Thanks, Padma.
I'm trying to silently(quiet mode) install Sql Server 2005 and our application.I created a custom wrapper and included all the files and folders extracted from SQLEXPR.exe.
So when I execute this customized setup its throwing an error : Could not register Program Files/Microsoft SQL Server/90/Shared/msxmlsql.dll
If I ignore the above error its throwing similar errors for almost all the files under Program Files/Microsoft SQL Server/90/Shared folder.
I tried to install SQL Server 2005 in a fresh installed Windows 2003 SP2. And this server is a workgroup member, not a member of a domain.
The services (Database service, integration service, reporting services and so on) work fines, but the other components, such as SQL XML 6.0 , SQL Server management Studio cannot be installed. And I have tried several times on a fresh-installed windows 2003 sp2.
I checked the log, I found the following error,The SQL Network Interface library could not deregister the Service Principal Name (SPN) for the SQL Server service. Error: 0x54b. Administrator should deregister this SPN manually to avoid client authentication errors.
2007-11-18 15:40:59.35 Server The SQL Network Interface library could not deregister the Service Principal Name (SPN) for the SQL Server service. Error: 0x54b. Administrator should deregister this SPN manually to avoid client authentication errors.
Then the installation existed with the error message "There was an unexpected failure during the setup wizard. You may review the setup logs and/or click the help button for more information. ".
I never had this problem and this time, I really got the trouble and do not have solution.
Who have ever encounter this problem? Or someone can help me?
I have SQL Server 2005 Express installed on a windows server 2003 standard edition. I have configured the windows firewall to allow exceptions for sqlservr.exe and sqlbrowser.exe. I have enabled remote and local connections using tcp/ip & Named Pipes through the Sql Server Surface Area Connection utility. I am able to telnet into the server with: telnet <server ip> <1433>.
Here is the strange part: I am able to connect to the Sql Server remotely from a development machine via Sql Server Management Studio Express, but I am unable to connect to the Sql Server from the same development machine by registering it in Sql Server Enterprise Manager...Is it possible to register SQL Express through Enterprise Manager?
When registering the SQL Express DB in Enterprise Manager I tried both just the (IP Address) of the server and the (IP AddressSQLExpress) as the server/host but I am getting the following errors from enterprise manager:
Just the (IP Address) as the server/host: Invalid Connection. ConnectionOpen( Invalid Instance())
(IP AddressSQLEXPRESS) as the server/host: Sql Server does not exist or access denied. ConnectOpen(Connect()).
Any idea why I can€™t register/mount the instance remotely in Enterprise Manager but I can in Sql Server Management Studio Express?
We have a situation where we run two instances of SQL server 7.0 on two separate machines. These are both administrated from one computer using the Enterprise Manager. Now we want to be able to run queries (via query analyser) from our administration machine on an Sql server 6.5 computer running on a different part of the network. Enterprise manager from version 7.0 seems to find the SQL 6.5 server but is unable to register that server. Is this in any way possible?
Distributed transactions were happily running between our SQL servers and then we installed Windows 2003 Server SP2 and all of a sudden we got this nice error message when attempting a remote data update via linked servers. I couldn't even run "BEGIN DISTRIBUTED TRANSACTION" without getting the error message. The full error message is:
"Enlist operation failed: 0x8004d00e(XACT_E_NOTRANSACTION). SQL Server could not register with Microsoft Distributed Transaction Coordinator (MSDTC) as a resource manager for this transaction. The transaction may have been stopped by the client or the resource manager."
Apparently, SP2 disables network DTC access (how nice, I feel more secure knowing that my data can't be updated remotely anymore).
Solution:
From Control Panel | Add or Remove Programs | Add Remove Windows Components Select "Application Server" and click the "Details" button Check "Enable network DTC access" and click OK for however many prompts it takes to apply the changes.
****NOTE**** this change WILL SHUT DOWN SQL SERVER so plan accordingly (this would have been handy to know in advance since I ran it in the middle of the workday and everyone got disconnected).
I have done a bit of searching around and cant find a clear answer to this question.
Current Setup Desktop application (c#) that connects to a SQL Server 2005 express database on the same local network as the application (currently 3 users)
It is only a very small company and has just taken on their first remote worker, but expects to take on another 6-8 over the next few months. They have asked for the database to be moved online.
The application was written in such a way that everything has been done using no stored procs, or views, it is all native SQL.
This will be my first DB hosted online and before I go ahead and do anything I just wanted to make sure what I have to do is correct, sorry if this is a very basic question, although I have been programming for a long time, I have never had the chance to do any online databases before.
Will this work. 1.Find a SQL Server 2005 Hosting company. 2.Move the database to the server. 3.Setup the users permissions. 3.Alter the connection string in the application to point to the new location.
So the only thing that would change would be a new connection string in the application preferences?
Or am I living in a dream world, because nothing is ever that simple.
One thing I am worried about is the security/visiblity of the database and data as it travels from the server to the client and back.
I am having a question as stated in the subject title, yes, when we want to deploy scorecards to reporting services, as the prerequisite, how can we install and register the scorecard custom data processing extension with the Microsoft reporting services server?
I am looking forward to hearing from you shortly and thank you again.
HiI am trying to connect an application to a remote sql server database, however it does not appear to eb configured for remote connections. Does anyone know a connection string of a database I can connect to , soem sort of learnsers database sort of idea ?Thank you.
