Reinstall Sql Server 2000 Ent Edition Named Instan

I need to recover an entire named instance because of data corruption on the SAN. The DBs are OK but the SQL Server Service will not start due to a 'windows internal error' so I'm going to restinall the instance. I have all of my data and log files from all databses including the master.. can I use these to recover or is a restore of system databases better??
Also, I have a database with 5 .ndf files. I can't quite get the syntax right to attach these files after I do a restore to get the LATEST data? Can anyone help?

Hello,
we've got a SQL Server 2005 which replicates with an SQL Server Compact 3.5. Every 10 to 20 synchronisations we're getting the error mentioned above. A Soft reset of the device helps to make the synchronization working again.
Why is this error happening and how can we resolve this?
BTW, we've also running system that replicates with an SQL Server Compact 3.0 without having this problems.

I had to uninstall SQl Server 2005 Developer Edition because of hardware requirements, and reinstall Express Edition download version.
But SQL Server Database Services fails with this message:
SQL Server Setup has determined that the following account properties are not specified: 'AGTACCOUNT' . Error Code: 28006.
The first time I installed Express the flow of setup ended well without any message. How to act?

I uninstalled a previous version of SQL Server 2000 Developer because it had some custom configurations that I didn't want. When I try to re-install, I get an error message saying:
A previous program installation created pending file operations on the installation machine. You must reboot the computer before running setup.
I don't know what other programs affect SQL that I have on my machine. My previous instance only contained two known databases and I have deleted the applications that went with those databases.
I have deleted all known registry settings for SQL Server. I have also stopped the IIS service because I thought it would impact the install.
I rebooted my machine, but I still get the same error when I try to install. I don't know what to do next? Please help!

I can€™t use the DTS editor because shows an error.
So, I want to reinstall the enterprise manager without uninstall the sql server 2000, Is that possible?
If the answer is yes, How can I do that?
I think that reinstalling only the Enterprise Manager the DTS editor can be fixed.

Something happened when the server fall down because of no disk space.
Now everything is fine but I have a problem in de DTS (from the Enterprise Manager) editor, I can€™t run, modify and even make a new DTS.
What can I do? Is it possible reinstall de DTS components without reinstall sqlserver 2000?

Hello all,
Here I need some help or suggestions for the following topic...
I am using SQL server 2000 enterprise edition installed on the machine. Now I wanted to change the edition from enterprise to standard.
There are around 4 user databases exists on the server.
What are the areas I have to take care while doing this? Could I do as normal installation?
No log shipping implemented on the server.

DOH! When I rebuilt the OS, I changed the data partition ID's, and didn't remember to change them in the connetion strings
Not great, but better than continuing to bang head against wall.
Would like to say to MS appreciators that the VS2005 reinstall actually went quite well, considering.

I built an app, works fine. Had the development environment working fine (VS2005 (SP0) and SQL Server Express). It had been stable for months, no problem.
Then I had to reinstall XP Pro...(finally threw too many conflicting programs into it, I guess...)
I managed to get VS2005 reinstalled ok. However, when I opened and compiled my existing app in VS2005, using Cassini, I got the dreaded error:
An attempt to attach an auto-named database for file <file string> failed. A database with the same name exists, or specified file cannot be opened, or it is located on UNC share.
I also get this error for the compiled copy of the app on the same machine, running on IIS. (Where it also previously worked fine).
The Connection strings are all of the form
connectionString="Data Source=.SQLEXPRESS;AttachDbFilename=(specific file string).MDF;Integrated Security=True;User Instance=True"
I appreciate that there are zillions of posts on this issue. I'm hoping that someone might know why this should happen in this particular case.
The thing that's different about this case is that the app was working fine; I have the app deployed on a demo machine and also on a remote server as well as on the development machine.
The only thing that changed is that there was this fresh install of SQL Server Express.
I tried using >> sp_configure user instances enabled','1';RECONFIGURE <<< in SSMSEE, which took, but didn't help.
So something is different in SSE. Since the app is stable everywhere else, I REALLY don't want to go through and adjust the connection strings...MUCH better to figure out what SSE needs to be happy with the existing connection strings...as it was before.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

EDIT----TRIED SOME THINGS:
Changed folder and file permissions to allow ASPNET full access to the .mdf's and log files (though never had to do this before on the development machine.) No change...
Can see the table contents within the .mdf through SSMSE, and also through Server Explorer in VS2005.
So because the problem happens with both IIS and Cassini, I'm assuming it's got to be an issue between ASPNET and SSE.
EDIT --- TRIED SOME MORE THINGS:
I dimly remember that when I had this problem before, it was that the error message was too "dumb". It wasn't my file that had the permissions problems, it was that the SSE System Databases had to have permissions with respect to ASPNET.
I tried to set that up but I'm a complete newb on this area, so I don't know if I did it right. In SSMSE I created a Login for MyComputer/ASPNET, and gave it all permissions and roles, and then made it an owner for the four system databases...but no joy.
Any pointers on this last piece would be helpful.

I have a simple ASP page calling a COM+ function. The COM+ function is attempting to execute a stored proc on a SQL Server 2000 database. I am getting the following error:
Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers (0x80004005)
[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][Named Pipes]Specified SQL server not found.
The connection string I am using looks as follows:
driver={SQL Server};server=10.10.1.60;database=eSystem;uid=sa; pwd=;
- I have Named Pipes *disabled* on the SQL Server machine (at 10.10.1.60).
- As you can see, the connection string contains an IP Address and not the name of the SQL machine
- The server running the ASP page can ping the server sitting at 10.10.1.60
- The eSystem database does exist on the SQL machine sitting at 10.10.1.60
I suspect my error has to do with Named Pipes being used and I don't want to use Named Pipes. Could someone help me?

I have the following problem;
I fully understand that to connect to a named instance of SQL Server you need to use the ServerNameSQLInstanceName. The problem I have is that I have a SQL Server in a different zone. I can connect to the Default instance by IP Address or the ServerName.zone.domain.org. (e.g. MySQLServer.zone1.mydomain.org).
However, the same thing does not work for the Named Instance. It seems to be named instance or nothing.
How can I connect to this named instance across network zones?:S

We are having all kinds of issues with named instances for SQL 2000.
I am trying to connect to a SQL Server 2000 named instance on a different subnet and get an error. I cannot connect with ODBC or our web app.
I am using the port number for the alias that I created in the SQL Client Utility. We can connect to default instances without a problem, but not the named instances.
The SQL Server is 2000 build 2040 (Service pack 4 with a hot fix.) The server is listening on port 1223. In the ODBC connection I click on the Network Config and create an alias with the named instance such as SQLVSNSQLNI and specify port 1223. I have also tried adding the port to the connection string in the ASP include file (SQLVSNSQLNI,1223). If I do the same thing with a default instance on the network, both the app and ODBC work fine. It is only when I use a named instance.

We are trying to quickly put together what needs to be accomplished to install a named instance of SQL Server 2000 on an existing production server (also running SQL Server 2000). It appears as if the install will require a reboot. Can the reboot be postponed until after-hours without impacting the default instance of SQL Server?
Also, I see that if certain services are stopped prior to installing sp4 that you can avoid a reboot. However, if we are unable to stop these services (DTC, for example) without impacting the default instance of SQL Server, will the default instance of SQL Server experience any issues if we postpone the post-sp4 reboot until after hours?

moving to a new sql server box because of a problem with the SAN its connected to.
started my named instance in single user mode and restored master. sqlserve.exe -c -m -s ovops
now the instance won't start. tried starting it with the -t3608 switch.. won't start!!
Its because my drive configuration is different on the new server than it was on the old server, I cannot start the instance because it is expecting model, msdb, temdb and all of the user databases on drives that don't exist?? what can I do?????

I am getting the following warning on a Live SQL 2000 system:
This SQL Server has been optimized for 8 concurrent queries. This limit has been exceeded by 1 queries and performance may be adversely affected.
Reading about this error I realised that, by mistake, the version installed is a personal edition instead of the standard edition.
I am thinking to backup the databases, uninstall SQL 2000 Personal edition, install Standard edition and restore the databases back.
OR, disconnect the databases, uninstall the current version, install the standard version and re-connect the databases.
I haven't found within Microsoft any advice how to upgrade the personal version to the standard edition.
Because it is a live system, I would not like to mess the system up. Can you please advice?

Here is my requirement:
The script needs to enumerate the the databases in a givin instance of sql server. Then it needs to output the account with permissions on that server. Finally it then needs to search stored procedured for reference to specific file and account names loaded from a csv file. The results should be output to a text file or displayed in an exportable window format.
What I don t understand:
What do they mean by: account with permissions on that server, which account re they talking about
and what do they mean by the SP references a specific file and account name? how can an SP reference a file or account name. i have never seen that?

Here's my situation:I have an ODBC DSN setup for Timberline Data (An accounting packagethat uses pervasive.sql) on my sql box. I set up a linked server usingthe supplied timberline odbc driver. I have two sql instances setup,the default instance and a named instance. On the default instance,the linked server works great no matter who is logged in using it (allauthentication is NT integrated). However on the named instance onlythe NT account that the MSSqlserver$NAMED service is logged in undercan utilize the linked server. All others get a ODBC error:"error 7399: OLE DB Provider 'MSDASQL' reported an error. AccessDenied. I have installed one default and one named instance of SQL Server 2005 Dev. Editition SP2 on my server.
The Named service is configured to use Shared, NamedPipe and TCP (Port 4333).
There is no firewall on the machine. But still i am not able to connect to it form remote computer.
can any one help me with these. this is urgent.

The box I am trying to connect to is running two instances of SQL Server.
There is a SQL Server 2005 instance which is the default. There is a SQL Server 2000 instance which is named 'SQLSERVER'.
I can connect to the SQL Server 2000 instance no problem:<add key="ConnectionString" value="server=MYPCSQLSERVER;database=mydatabase;user id=****;password=****" />
However, I am having trouble connecting to the Default SQL Server 2005 instance. I have tried:
<add key="ConnectionString" value="server=MYPC;database=mydatabase;user id=****;password=****" />
but it doesn't work. I have tried explicitly setting SQL Server 2005 to use port 1434 (as SQL Server 2000 is running on port 1433), and then used:
<add key="ConnectionString" value="server=MYPC,1434;database=mydatabase;user id=****;password=****" />
but this doesn't work either.
Am I mssing something here? Any help much appreciated

I need to buy SQL Server 2000 Developer Edition.
Both Windows Marketplace and Amazon.com sell SS 2005 Dev, and I bought it, but I also need 2000 Dev.
Windows Marketplace does not have it at all, whereas Amazon.com does not sell it directly (only from resellers, and their prices are crazy).
Could someone kindly recommend where I could purchase SQL Server 2000 Developer Edition for approximately the same (same and sane!..) price as SS 2005 Dev: that is, ~$50, please?

I am currently using MS Access for my site and am ready to move on.
I have obtained (legally) SQL Server 2000 Developer Edition.
Before I install this on my pc to learn this new tool and begin adjustments to my site, I have an important question, If I can phrase it correctly.
1. Will this set up my pc as a SQL server as well as keep the current configurations?
2. I have some projects I would like to keep using MS Access, how would this effect it?
3. I have never created a database using SQL or MySQL, any suggested tutorial links?
