Slow Query Response - Is It The Hosting.

I have a website www.searchcontracts.com which has a search feature on the front page. The problem is that whenever a search is submitted (without and filters) it processes extremely slow (if at all, sometime throws 'general network' errors). If working properly it will return about 500+ records. As far as i know if there should be no issues returning a recordset of this size. I have the site hosted in a shared environment and it uses a SQL2000 db. If you filter the search resutls, it's more reponsive (still fairly slow).
If you believe that the hosting server i'm using should be upgraded, what would be the best solution? Keep in mind that i want to be able to return way more than 500+ records in one go.

Query Response Time Check
Sep 28, 2006Is there a global variable or something of the sort that would tell me how long it took to execute a query??
I need to monitor my DB response times and we have a query that runs in under 2 seconds. So we want to run this query every couple of minutes and if it takes more than 12 sec to run, we want to send an email to our DB staff...
I know that I could take a time stamp before and after then subtract but I wanted to know if there was an easier way to do it..

Slow Query Response From A Linked Server

I have 2 servers (say MAINSRV e SECSRV) running SQL2000 Standard SP3 on Windows 2000 Advanced within a NT (!) domain and each server is linked to the other.
My problem is that if I run a query returning few dozens of rows like:
SELECT * FROM MAINSRV.DbName.dbo.TblName TBLA
WHERE Fieldx = 'anyval'
from a client connected to the SECSRV server, it takes something like 35 minutes to complete, while the same query completes in no time when run on clients connected to MAINSRV.
Even the simplest SELECT Count(*) FROM... takes more than one minute from SECSRV while completing in a fraction of second from MAINSRV.
I tried to change the linked server security options (SQL/Windows), but the remote query remains slow.
There are no locks active on the table, both the servers have almost no load (CPU less than 10%, when tested) and the query returns just a few KBytes, so communication overhead will not be the problem.
Any suggestions will be very appreciated, thank you!!!

I get 100 rows of result, i want to write a sql query similar to the one available in MySql database where in i can specify the starting row and number of rows of records i want,
something like,
select * from emp LIMIT 10,20
I want all the records from the 10th row to the 20th row.
This would be helpful for me to do paging in the front end , where is i can navigate to the next previous buttons and fetch the corresponding records.
I want to do something like in google, previous next screens.
So I am trying to limit the number of rows fetched from a query.
somethin like,
select * from emp where startRowNum=10 and NoOfRecords = 20
so that i can get rows from 10 to 30.
Has any1 done this, plz let me know.

These servers are identical or so it seems. I've got a real ugly query that uses views and a derived table to get results. The problem is the 256 limit message only comes up on one server and on the other (Genesis) the query runs fine. I get the error though it reads a 260 limit on a box with SP4 applied. I've also run the query on a box that is Windows 2003, sql2k and sp4 and the query runs but not on a similar server here. This is all very odd. Please note that the database structure, views, etc are all exactly the same as far as I know.
Any suggestions? There seems to be no pattern between versions of Windows and/or SP levels.
Size Limit For Dataset Query In Report Designer
Sep 16, 2007I was working on the SSRS Report Designer and was trying to copy and paste a huge SQL query from SQL Management Studio (like I always do) to the dataset window.
This method usually works, but for this extremely long SQL query with nested SELECTs and JOINs, it seems as though the Report Designer dataset query window limits the number of characters including carriage returns I can input in it.
When I paste my SQL query from SQL Management Studio, it seems to paste only three quarters of the query, and thereafter I am not able to manually key in anything else or even make a line feed in the dataset query window.
Is there a limit to the number of characters I can key in here ? If so, is there any workarounds or configurations I can try ?

This question is regarding the architecture of TimeEntry.
In some programs it builds an arrayList for Master-detail type of relationship and when user is ready to save it by clicking 'submit' it build a variable with pipe delimited fields.
This is then passed to a sql query.
This to me does not seem to be an efficient manner. Because the max character is 1500 chars as parameter to SQL query.
I was wondering if instead I could store it as an XML and then use the XML to import in to SQL.
Any ideas is greatly appreciated, I am running in to problems where my variable construct does increase to more than 1500 chars. Any thoughts are much appreciated in this regards.

I have a problem, in filtering the records returned by a query.
I have a table which contains 1 million records, it has a user defined primary key which is of character type.
The problem is i need to filter the output of a select query on the table based on two parameters i send to that query.
The first parameter will be the starting row number and the second one is the ending row number.
I need a procedure to do this.
For Eg:
MyProc_GetRowsFromBigTable(startRowNo,endRowNo) should get me only the rows in the specified range.

Sep 18, 2014I want to turn on the query governor cost limit option for 20 minutes so that queries do not run longer than 20 minutes but I could not find any info as if this option would also not allow database backup job or other maintenance jobs to run more than 20 minutes. We have backups (Via RedGate) run over 3.5 hours and others like rebuild indexes and integrity checks even more than 3.5 hours....

so what i want is select * from table1 where id=1
but here the values variable1 is passesed from a c# program which encloses the vaule within single quotes.
so what i get is select * from table1 where 'id=1'
how to correct this?

Jul 23, 2005Hi,I have successfully set and used a linked server to query ADSI.Since this question also concerns MSSQLServer, I've cross posted it --I hope this is not a breach of etiquette.I have successly created a view based on the linked server.Unfortunately, it only shows 1000 records, and there does not seem tobe any way to set the Page Size.I found the following:http://support.microsoft.com/defaul...kb;en-us;243281Which seems to imply that the default can be set by changing registrykey: "HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwarePoliciesMicrosoftWind owsDirectoryUI"I have set this key, and also set it for the user account under whichMSSQLServer runs. The value persists after a reboot. The Domain Grouppolicy sets the default to 15000.This behaviour is not restricted to the linked server. If I use thescript found here:http://hacks.oreilly.com/pub/h/1121 I can access morethan 1000 records, but only if I set the "Page Size" property. If Icomment it out to let the default hold, it is 1000.It must be settable SOMEWHERE or the whole linked server thing is ofvery limited use.At present, the best solution I've been able to come up with is to usethe above script modified to run as a DTS package. Oct 1, 2015I have a query that returns the data about test cases. Each test case can have multiple bugs associated to it. I would like a query that only returns the test cases that have all their associated bugs status = closed.For instance here is a sample of my data
TestCaseID TestCaseDescription BugID BugStatus
1 TestCase1 1 Closed
2 TestCase1 2 Open
3 TestCase2 11 Closed
4 TestCase2 12 Closed
5 TestCase2 13 Closed
How can I limit this to only return TestCase2 data since all of that test case's bugs have a status of closed.
How Can I Remove Duplicate Entries In A Sql Query?
Mar 2, 2006I have a database being populated by hits to a program on a server.The problem is each client connection may require a few hits in a 1-2second time frame. This is resulting in multiple database entries -all exactly the same, except the event_id field, which isauto-numbered.I need a way to query the record w/out duplicates. That is, anyrecords exactly the same except event_id should only return one record.Is this possible??Thank you,Barry

Oct 10, 2007Does anyone know why this statement would fail? I have created my own assembly which is on the server and when i run the mdx query call myassembly.mystoredproc() it returns data, but now when I use call myassembly.mystoredproc() it returns an error.
using an mdx query this works fine

When using openquery i get an error

I tried to remove AdventureWorksDB in the "Add or Remove Programs" of Contol Panel and I got the following errors: (1) AdventureWorksDB Error 1326: Error getting file security: CProgram FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL1MSSQLGetLastError: 5. |OK| and (2) Add or Remove Programs Fatal Error during installation (after I clicked the |OK| button). Please help and tell me how I can solve this problem.

Need To Remove Extra Spaces In Query Output

With the following query (testquery.qry):

SELECT table1.column5, table2.column9
FROM table1, table2
WHERE table1.column4 = table2.column4
AND table1.column1 != "NULL"
ORDER BY table1.column5
All of the columns are cast as char up to 50 characters.
Even if only a field has a few characters, I get a lot of extra white space in my output. I want to get rid of those trailing spaces. I've tried SET ANSI_PADDING OFF, RTRIM(), and CAST(x AS VARCHAR(y)). I still get the same output. What am I doing wrong, what am I missing?

SQL Server 2008 :: Remove Duplicates From Query?
Oct 6, 2015I am working with a bunch of records that have duplicates on the Persid and the intPercentID where there are duplicates I want to remove when I stick them in the temp table, I tried join on tempo table and doing not exists but still inserts, so now I am trying a merge but same thing. how can I keep duplicates from being inserted in the temp table. I made a cursor as well but its slow as heck, but it does work. trying better ways.

How Do I Clean Up The SQL Server (ctp) From ADD/REMOVE Program Without The Change/remove Button
Oct 12, 2006I have uninstalled the CTP version of the SQL Server express so that I can install the released version but CTP version is still listed in the add/remove program list but without the change/remove button. I have been to different sites to find information on cleaning this up and I have ran all the uninstall tool I can find but the problem still prevails. I cannot install the released version without completely getting rid of the CTP version. Please help anyone.
