Removing Replication

May 8, 2003

Hi,

We had transactional replication set up by a consultant with remote distributer, push subscription to the publisher (main production database). However, the subscriber machine had fatal crash and is unrecoverable. Now, replication jobs have been failing on distributor and we immediately need to disable and remove replication as it has started causing problems with transaction log backups on production database.

How can I completely remove this whole replication from publisher and distributor?

Please help.

Thanks,
Shaili

Suspect Db - Removing Replication

Jun 28, 2001

Hi all,

I have a db (with replication enabled) which was marked as suspect. As per the logs it is the Hardware crash that caused this db to become suspect.
Tried with sp_resetstatus to recover the db. But it is still in suspect mode. Changed the db into emercengy mode to recover the data thru' bcp which was succesful. Since there is no other way to recover the db, now I want to drop the db and create / restore the db from backup.
I am unable to drop the db becasue it is having a publication. I am also unable to drop publication becasue now the db is in emergency mode.
Kindly help and inform how I can drop the db and create it again from the backup without reinstalling SQL Server again.

TIA.

Ravi

Removing Merge Replication

May 22, 2007

Several years ago I set up Merge Replication on a SQL 2000 database and an MSDE Client on a Laptop. The Laptop frequently travelled out of the country and would "synch" up when it came back in.

Well the Laptop received some Viruses that we cannot get to remove so putting it on the network is not possible. Also, the owner of the laptop received a new one. He wants the database set up on the new laptop but it is not a priority at the moment and we plan to wait till the "Yemen" project is finished.

In the mean time, I want to remove the old laptop out of the Merge Replication scenario. We are not concerned about losing the data in the database on the laptop.

Does anyone know the steps I need to perform to "unreplicate" my database without being able to connect them?

Issues With Removing Replication

Jan 17, 2007

SQL Server 2005 Standard replicating to an identical server.

My issue:

When we go into the database to remove a large number of rows, it says we are unable to delete since the database is in replication. Is there a way to pause, or stop replication temporarily? I stopped the log reader but it still gave me the same error.

The only way I have found around this is to delete the publication and re-create it when I'm ready. Now though, I'm unable to delete the publication. SQL Server Management Studio will freeze if I either try to delete something from the UI or command line. This happens with objects in SQL Server as well as rows and such. It will just freeze and I have to kill the process.

Please Help!

Removing Replication If Db Exists Using T-SQL

Jan 21, 2008

Hi,

I'm trying to write a create database script for a test database and I need to check if the database exists before dropping and recreating it. The problem I'm having is that the test database is also merge replicating so if the db exists I need to remove the replication and then drop the database. I'm running the script using osql from a NAnt build script. The script goes something like this:

USE master
GO
if exists (select * from sysdatabases where name = N'@INITIAL_CATALOG@')
BEGIN
USE [N'@INITIAL_CATALOG@']
EXEC sp_dropmergepublication @publication = N'@PUBLICATION@'
USE master
EXEC sp_replicationdboption @dbname = N'@INITIAL_CATALOG@', @optname = N'merge publish', @value = N'false'
DROP DATABASE @INITIAL_CATALOG@
END
GO
CREATE DATABASE ...

Where the NAnt script replaces the @PARAMETER@ fields before running the script. Running the script using osql when the database doesn't exists appears to fail on parsing the line "USE [N'@INITIAL_CATALOG@']" with the error "Could not locate entry in sysdatabases for database '[DatabaseName]' ..." and does not create the database. If I run the same script in SQL Management Studio I get the same error but it does create the database.

The script should only execute the USE [N'@INITIAL_CATALOG@'] statement if the database exists, but the parser isn't able to see this and returns an error. If anyone can see an error in this script syntax, or see a different way of doing the same function without getting errors I would greatly appreciate it.

Regards,

Greg

Enterprise Manager Hanging When Removing Replication

Aug 29, 2007

I'm trying to remove replication from my database so that I can run some update scripts on it but SQL Enterprise Manager just keeps hanging on me. I've searched the web an no-one seems to have had this problem.

Does anyone know of this problem or have they experienced it? If so, can you help?

Am I doing something wrong trying to remove the replication (deleting the publication)?

Thanks.

Removing Duplicates In The Table

Mar 21, 2014

The database has Name,Email, and skill. Though the name is distinct it is repeated as it has different skills. I would like to remove duplicate names and add the corresponding skill to the only one row.

From the stored procedure, combining 3 tables I got the output as:

NameemaildepartmentSkill
ArunemailidTech teamTechnical
ArunemailidTech teamLeadership
ArunemailidTech teamDecision Making
BinayemailidMarketingTechnical
BinayemailidMarketingDecision Making

I would like to remove the duplicate Name fields and combine the Skill in a single row as other fields are same.

So the output should be

NameemaildepartmentSkill
ArunemailidTech teamTechnical, Leadership, Decision Making
BinayemailidMarketingTechnical,Decision Making

Process For Removing Duplicates In Table?

May 18, 2012

I have a very large table that can contain up 3 to 5 duplicate records. Every month around 100,000 new records come in. Sometimes it's an ammended record, other times is just duplicated by error.

Is it possible to keep the latest record dumped into the table and delete the others? Does SQL track the order of the data being dropped into the table?

The layout would look like this. There are 10-15 other columns in the table where adjustments can also be made.

Lease# Year Month Production
12345 2008 10 1,231
12345 2008 10 1,250

SQL Server 2008 :: Removing 00-00-00 From Varchar Column In Table?

Jul 29, 2015

I've look at several different methods for removing leading zero's from a column but I need to remove trailing data from a VARCHAR column. For some reason, the old database saved the time along side the date in my client's app.

For example:

The old database format "2015-07-28 00:00:00"

I need the data in this column in the new database to only be the date "2015-07-28", there are alot of rows with this issue.

Is there a query I can run to remove the 00-00-00 from all of the rows? Some of the fields actually have a time in there like this: 2015-07-28 12:15:35, with this one, I don't think it's going to be easy but if I could at least remove the 00-00-00 from all the rows that have it, that would be a good start.

Removing Blank Space Caused By Wide Table

Apr 5, 2007

Hi all,

Report:

-For instance 2 small tables (eg. width 10cm = 3 inch?)

-And one wide table (eg. width 30cm = 10 inch?)

All separated by "insert pagebreak after table".

Problem:

When rendered, the pages with the small tables on have a lot of white blank space at the right of the table. This is probably caused by the big table on page 3.

This report is distributed by email in Excell format. So on sheet 1 and 2 there are a lot of white cells on the right of the tables. When trying to print, they just want to use the "landscape" option and the "fit to page" option. Because of the empty white cells, the fit to page option reduces the first 2 tables to a very small table which covers only 50 % of the page width. The other 50 % is reserved for the empty cells.

Off course, I know that deleting the empty cells offers a solutions, but it would be a lot more handier if there were no empty cells in the first place.

Anybody with a solution?

Transact SQL :: Table Locking Happening When Removing Huge Data

May 14, 2015

declare @error int, @rowcount int
select @rowcount = COUNT(1) FROM  STG_BCDR;
while @rowcount > 0
begin
 BEGIN TRAN Deletion

[code]....

Above code i try to delete records batch by batch to avoid table locking at BCDR table.total records in this BCDR  table is 40,000 records.  However I run the code at execution plan, the BCDR table still clustered index scan which means that the locking still happend.

If i change the delete top (5000)...... to delete top (5).... then thre is clustered index seek, which is good..The problem here is  each time  only delete top 5 records which is means it will realy take very long time to remove those  data.

how to cater the situation inorder for me to delete those huge data without table locking happend. If table locking happend , then other user will not be able to access this table at the same time.

Transact SQL :: Present Data In Presentation Layer After Removing Temp Table?

May 21, 2015

Inside of stored procedure you have the code

create table #datatable (id int,
name varchar(100),
email varchar(10),
phone varchar(10),
cellphone varchar(10),
none varchar(10)
);
insert into #datatable
exec ('select *
from datatable
where id = 1')
select * from #datatable

I still want to retrieve the data and present it in the software's presentation layer but I still want to remove the temp table in order to reduce performance issue etc.

If I paste the code DROP

TABLE #datatable after
insert into #datatable
exec ('select *
from datatable
where id = 1')

Does it gonna work to present the data in the presentation layer after removing the temp table?

The goal is to retrieve the data from a stored procedure and present it in the software's presentation layer and I still need to remove the temptable after using it because I will use the SP many time in production phase.

DB Replication Or Table Replication Via Triggers?

Apr 17, 2007

Hello everyone,I am involved in a scenario where there is a huge (SQL Server 2005)production database containing tables that are updated multiple timesper second. End-user reports need to be generated against the data inthis database, and so the powers-that-be came to the conclusion that areporting database is necessary in order to offload report processingfrom production; of course, this means that data will have to bereplicated to the reporting database. However, we do not need all ofthe data in the production database, and perhaps a filtering criteriacan be established where only certain rows are replicated over to thereporting database as they're inserted (and possibly updated/deleted).The current though process is that the programmers designing thequeries/reports will know exactly what data they need from productionand be able to modify the replication criteria as needed. For example, programmer A might write a report where the data he needs can beexpressed in a simple replication criteria for table T where column X= "WOOD" and column Y = "MAHOGANY". Programmer B might come along amonth later and write a report whose relies on the same table T wherecolumn X = "METAL" and column Z in (12, 24, 36). Programmer B willhave to modify Programmer A's replication criteria in such a way as toaccomodate both reports, in this case something like "Copy rows fromtable T where (col X = "WOOD" and col Y = "MAHOGANY") or (col X ="METAL" and col Z in (12, 24, 36))". The example I gave is reallytrivial of course but is sufficient to give you an idea of what thecurrent thought-process is.I assume that this is a requirement that many of you may haveencountered in the past and I am wondering what solutions you wereable to come up with. Personally, I believe that the above method isprone to error (in this case the use of triggers to specifyreplication criteria) and I'd much rather use replication services tocopy tables in their entirety. However, this does not seem to be anoption in my case due to the sheer size of certain tables. Is thereanything out there that performs replication based on complexprogrammer defined criteria? Are triggers a viable alternative? Anyalternative out-of-the-box solutions?Any feedback would be appreciated.Regards!Anthony

Table Changes And Replication

May 4, 2004

I have an ASP.Net Application that connects to a SQL DB. I also have a backup of the application and the db on a second server.

I have a snapshot replication setup between the two servers. Every night the snapshot is taken at 3:00am and distribution happens at 4:00am

Everything works perfectly.

However, whenever I want to make a change to a table it won't let me make the change because the table is part of a replication. So I do the following; I delete the replication, make the table change, and then rebuild the replication.

I have to believe there is an easier way to do this.

Is there a way to make table changes without deleting and rebuiling my replication?

Thanks a lot,

Chris

Replication - Cannot Drop Table

Mar 15, 2001

I need some help with Merge Replication. After successfully defining a publisher, distributor and subscriber to perform merge replication, we decided to test Merge Replication to see what we can and can't do.

What we found is that you can't add new fields or change the nullable/null attributes of tables whilst the replication settings are still defined to the databases. ie you get the following error

'tblProducts' table
- Unable to modify table.
ODBC error: [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]Cannot drop the table 'dbo.tblProducts' because it is published for replication.

So we thought, fair enough. We decided to uninstall replication using the wizards provided to see whether we can make schema changes. What we found is that we can make schema changes to the publisher database(on Server1), BUT not to the subscriber (Server2).

Does anyone know why? We are running SQL7 SP2.

Replication - Dropping A Table

I'm new to replication and would like to know how to drop an article published for replication. I believe I need to follow these steps, but I am unsure.

Step (1)
exec sp_dropsubscription @publication = N'db name',
@article = N'article name',
@subscriber = 'subscriber name',
@destination_db = N'db name'

Step (2)
exec sp_droparticle @publication = N'db name',
@article = N'article name'

Step (3)
drop the article on the publisher

Step (4)
drop the article on the subscriber

Is this the correct sequence or am I missing something.

SQL 2k Replication - View To Table

We would like to copy sensitive prod data into a devleopment environment and use a view to alter some of the sensitive rows. (incl. ssn's)

We have views that will "scrub" the data and substitute ssn's with an alternate key for R.I.

Some would like us to use replication to copy from our scrubbed views to our dev tables. Anyone have suggestions on how to accomplish this?

Only ops has access to distributors on-site, including my laptop :( so I can't do much experimenting and have to back-seat drive.
