I have a table where this one column(varchar) has rows of data with a period at the end of the string. Is there any function I could use to remove all the periods?
Here is the example data <qMultipleChoice><qText>The%20AE%20understands%20what%20conditions%20the%2 0Account%20Manager%20is%20allowed%20to%20sign-off 20on.</qText><qChoice>Strongly20Disagree</qChoice><qChoice>Disagree </qChoice><qChoice>Agree</qChoice><qChoice>Strongly%20Agree</qCh
I want result look like this First Column:The AE Understands what conditions the Account Manager is allowed to sign-off. Second Column: Strongly Disagree Disagree Agree Strongly Agree
This is what i had so far Select (SUBSTRING(QuestionText, (PATINDEX(N'%<qText>%', QuestionText) + 7),(PATINDEX(N'%</qText>%', QuestionText) - (PATINDEX(N'%<qText>%', QuestionText) + 7)))) From tblQuestion
my result: The%20AE%20understands%20what%20conditions%20the%2 0Account%20Manager%20is%20allowed%20to%20sign-off%20on.
I have problem with replace '%20' and how to make the second column. Any Help? Thanks Shan
I have several fileds in a sql table which holds some text and a hell of a lot of white spaces (char(32)) which is causing some problems when I show the data on the front-end
What I want to do is use sql replace function to replace the char(32). However, because there is text I can't do a simple replace as the text will become just one word !
Can anyone tell me how to loop through the field to find the char(32), where the char(32) is greater than say 5 sapces and then replace this with just one single space
E.g. a field in a table contains the following :
"my text field and loads of spaces then some more text with loads of spaces "
I want to replace the char(32) with just one space so it looks like this : "my text filed and loads of spaces then some more text with loads of spaces"
I am attempting to find quotes (") in a column and replace with the string '--THIS-WAS-QUOTES--'. Right now my script only converts the first quote it finds in the description column, converts to the string and moves to the next row leaving the other quotes as they were. Below is my query script

#1 This stored procedure can be used to search and replace substring in the char, nchar, varchar and nvarchar columns in all tables in the current database. You should pass the text value to search and the text value to replace. So, to replace all char, nchar, varchar and nvarchar columns which contain the substring 'John' with the substring 'Bill', you can use the following (in comparison with the SetTbColValues stored procedure, this stored procedure replace only substring, not the entire column's value):
I have following query which return me SP/Views and Functions script using:
select DEFINITION FROM .SYS.SQL_MODULESNow, the result looks like Create proc create procedure create proc create view create function
I need its result as:
Alter Procedure Alter Procedure Alter Procedure Alter View Alter Function
I used following
select replace(replace(replace(DEFINITION,'CREATE PROCEDURE','Alter Procedure'), 'create proc','Alter Procedure'),'create view','Alter View') FROM .SYS.SQL_MODULESto but it is checking fixed space like create<space>proc, how can i check if there are two or more spaces in between create view or create proc or create function, it should replace as i want?
I have followed many tutorials on selecting and replacing text in text fields, varchar fields and char fields, but I have yet to find a single script that will to all 3 based on field type. Let's assume for a moment that I don't know where all in my database a certain value that I need changed resides ... i.e., the data's tablename and fieldname. How would I go about doing the following ... or more importantly, is this even possible in a SQL only procedure?1) Loop over entire database and get all user tables2) Loop over all user tables and get all fields3) Loop over all fields and determine the field type4) switch between field types and change a string of text from 'a' to 'b'Please be gentle, I'm a procedure newb.
I have used a query statement with the following WHERE string to 'Fill' a dataset. "AND (A.ApptsDate > '" & strApptPreDate & "' OR (A.ApptsDate = '" & strApptPreDate & "' AND A.ApptsTime >= '" & strApptPreTime & "' ))" & _ and strApptPreTime is defined as:Dim strApptPreTime As String = SomaShared.strPadTime(CStr(dApptCalcNewDate.Hour) + ":" + CStr(dApptCalcNewDate.Minute))
Somehow, the dataset showed only the ApptsTime after 10 am. After more than 2 weeks of debugging, I still can see a dataset watch for > 10 amAppsTime only. Now I am guessting, the problem is 9 is different from 10 - 16, it all because 9 is single digit. Then I check the data type settings for these variables. Here are what I found: In SQL Server Agent job, the ApptsTime data was 'inserted' by @NewApptTimes, which is declared as char(5).In SQL Server database, the ApptsTime was defined as nvarchar(15). My question are: 1. The reason why there were no 9 am data for the dataset, is becasue 9 am of nvarchar(15) is not > 8:30 of strApptPreTime? 2. If the answer to the quation 1 is yes, how do I define AppsTime and/or strApptPreTime? TIA,Jeffrey
I've been trying to return hex data in a way that can be concatenated. I need the actual hex info (e.g. 0x6E3C070) as displayed since it contains info about the path to a file. So I can turn it into D:6E3C 7 to get the path to the file. In searching around I have come across a way to do this but can't figure out how to get it to run through a column and either display or insert into a table multiple results.
-Here's the user function that converts an integer into a hex string-
CREATE FUNCTION udf_hex_string (@i int) RETURNS varchar(30) AS BEGIN DECLARE @vb varbinary(8) SET @vb = CONVERT(varbinary(8),@i) DECLARE @hx varchar(30) EXEC master..xp_varbintohexstr @vb, @hx OUT RETURN @hx END GO
--'PageStoreId' contains the data that needs to be converted into the editable hex string --'HexString' is where I'd like it to go so I can parse it later.
--I can run the below select and get the hex string. But am stuck on how to run a select or update that would run through the 'XPages.PagestoreId' column and insert the hex string into the 'XPages.Hexstring' column. 'XPages.PagestoreId' could have 100's of entries that need to be converted and placed in the relevant the 'XPages.Hexstring' column.
Hi Everyone- i woder if someone know Built in function to search the occurence of char in string in T-SQL
and iam not talking about the Index of the first occurence (e.g CHARINDEX ) but it is more generic
i want to send to the function to ask about the index the second or the third or N occurence of the char. and i wonder if it is built in for performance reasons
example getseachIndex("M|d|d","|",2)==> the result is 4
I need to do an update on a field which will update 3 characters within a string. Right now I have '000111000333'. I want to replace '000' starting from the 7th character space with '222'. The first set of zeroes will remain unchange. I want the final outcome to be '000111222333'. How can I do this?
I have tried searching this forum and could not find anything. the closest thing I can find is http://www.sqlteam.com/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=81890#360936.

Hi, What is the difference updating a null value to char/varchar type column
versus empty string to char/varchar type column?Which is the best to do and why? Could anyone explain about this?
Example:
Table 1 : tCountry - Name varchar(80) nullable Table 2 :tState - Name char(2) nullable Table 3 :tCountryDetails - countryid, state (char(2) nullable) - May the country contain state or no state So,when the state is not present for the country ,i have two options may be - null,'' tCountryDetails.State = '' or tCountryDetails.State = null?
SELECT CASE WHEN CHARINDEX(' ', Supervisor, CHARINDEX(' ', Supervisor, 0) + 1) > 0 THEN REPLACE(Supervisor, SUBSTRING(Supervisor, CHARINDEX(' ', Supervisor, CHARINDEX(' ', Supervisor, 0) + 1), LEN(Supervisor)), '') ELSE Supervisor END AS NewSupervisor from data d
However, I stumble when Middle Name exists somewhere in the name as Replace function repalces every occurrence of the string. For ex: "Allen, Gary G" becomes "Allen, ary"
Do we have any way to say sql to replace after certain index?
The string column value looks like as below. Each value has a size of 15 withing a string
'2.2020 30 4.0000'
The column value should match with user input as below. The result should show equal when it is compared. Currently, it results not equal since it is a string comparision. The last digit '0' needs to be ignored for decimal values.
'2.202 30 4.0'
I need to handle the decimal values in such a way, if staring value with '.' and last digit is 0 then replace with space ''. So, it should look like
'2 2 2 30 4 ' = '2 2 2 30 4 '
When this string is compared, it results in EQUAL.
I tried the below logic, which even replaces the integer value like 30 to 3 and 3000 to 3 and results in equal which is incorrect.
