Report Web Service And Access From Another Web App
Feb 1, 2007
We are planning on using 2005 report services. Im wondering how I can feed reports to my asp.net web application that resides on a different machine.
The scenario is:
user -> IIS web app -> report on sql
I guess the real question at this point for me, is if I have reports - can I have them cached in pdf format and then how are they accessed with a url ?
Hi, when I am using the Report Manger to open a report, I am unable to acess the Database from my .Net application and vice versa - error report from MS Visual Web developer - "Operating system error 32: "32(The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process.)".
I have report that in access 97. When i run that report every morning, it's update technician time, mileage and money. I want that report to be update every min like real time report in sql reporting service.
The main thing i want to know is how to import report from access 97 to sql reporting service. I am not really familiar with reporting services in sql, can you be little more specific where to set up time? The report only update when i run query every morning. Queries and Tables are in access 97. When i tried to migrate tables with ssma, i wan not able to convert all of the query.
I am accessing my reports through one aspx page designed by me. in that i am using webservice to render the report and linking the url of the report to reportviewer
it is working fine but for the first time it is asking username & password of the reporting server to render the report. i am using Reporting Services 2000 plz help to avoid this user name & password prompt.
I have installed SQL Server Reporting Service on window xp. everything working fine except one thing.
I have installed sql server with my a/c. my a/c have admin rights. when i giving http://dineshpatel/reports it is displaying page but Report Builder and other option are not displaying. I hope i don't have admin rights.
I have checked with local administrator login also but same problem.
what additional setting are require for admin rights?

If you guys any solution for this please let me know. I was wondering could this be a scale-out deployment issue ?
I also get the error when setting up the DataBase Setup : Although saving the database connection info succeeded the The report server cannot access internal info about this deployment to determine whetherthe current con fig is valid for this editionThis could be a scale-out deployment and that the feature is not supported by this editionTo continue use a diff report server database or remove the encription keys

Is there any way to get more information for when IAuthorizationExtension::CheckAccess fails to grant access to a report item for the current user? Specifically, it would be useful to know:
1. URL of attempted report 2. IP address of user agent 3. Identity of current user 4. Date/Time of the failed attempt
I need to prevent domain and local administrators from having full control over our report manager. (I want them to be assigned permissions just like everyone else, some reports they can see other reports they can not.)
How can I accomplish this? I tried going into Report Manager -> Site Settings -> Configure Site Wide Security and re-assigning BUILTINAdministrators to the System User role instead of the System Administrator role. (A different set of report manager admins was given the system administrator role).
However, it appears that members of the BUILTINAdministrators group still have full control in Report Manager.
Hello, I'm using Reporting Services to render a text (stored in sql as varchar(max)). The text is all plain text, with some lines having trailing spaces.
Source text file i've imported to SQL via SSIS: CLIENT: 10055 STATEMENT 2007 DATE:1002993 THIS IS THE OTHER STATEMENT COLUMN1 COLUMN2 COLUMN 3 TRY THIS
*Note the trailing spaces on the line before 'STATEMENT 2007'.
I've designed a report using the Report Project in VS2005 to retrieve this text via a stored procedure. When I test the report using the 'Preview' tab in the IDE, it looks good CLIENT: 10055 STATEMENT 2007 DATE:1002993 THIS IS THE OTHER STATEMENT COLUMN1 COLUMN2 COLUMN 3 TRY THIS
But when I deploy the report and run it using URL Access:
CLIENT: 10055 STATEMENT 2007 DATE:1002993
THIS IS THE OTHER STATEMENT
COLUMN1 COLUMN2 COLUMN 3 TRY THIS
On all lines with trailing spaces, they (the trailing spaces) have been removed. This is affecting my formatting of some reports and statements. We really want to use the report viewer as it has built in paging, print and export capabilities.
Why does it look okay in VS2005 but different in Report Viewer via URL Access and Report Manager?
Note: When I export as PDF, it looks okay.
The stored procedure I use to return the data is a CLR Hosted assembly as below:
Code Snippet Partial Public Class StoredProcedures <Microsoft.SqlServer.Server.SqlProcedure()> _
Public Shared Sub GetPagedDocument(ByVal inText As SqlString) Dim dr As SqlDataReader Dim row As New SqlDataRecord(New SqlMetaData("RowText", SqlDbType.Text)) Dim cmd As New SqlCommand("select cast(doc as varchar(max)) as 'DOCTEXT' from testdoc WHERE id='" + inText + "'") Dim cn As New SqlConnection("context connection=true") cn.Open() cmd.Connection = cn SqlContext.Pipe.SendResultsStart(row) 'initialise the resultset to be returned dr = cmd.ExecuteReader 'If no records in result set, return. If Not dr.HasRows Then
row.SetString(0, "There is no document to display or you do not have permission to view the document.") SqlContext.Pipe.SendResultsRow(row) SqlContext.Pipe.SendResultsEnd() ' SqlContext.Pipe.Send("There is no document to display.") Return End If 'Read rows in the result set dr.Read()
'Get the entire text Dim docText As String = dr.Item("DOCTEXT") 'debug row.SetString(0, docText) SqlContext.Pipe.SendResultsRow(row) SqlContext.Pipe.SendResultsEnd() Return 'end debug
I am setting up the SQL2005 reporting service to let users build their own reports on the web. I'll provide them with pre-built report models. We have concern with SQL database performance by allowing users to execute huge reports. The problem that I have is: If I give the users permissions to build report they'll have access to the report's Properties | Execution page, which allows them to disable the report execution timeout. Is there a way for me to allow them build reports while restrict them to access the report execution timeout settings?
I have search all around the net, trying to get a solution for my application under MS Access 2003, I developed a database that generates a report, this report will need to be accessed trough the internal network, perhaps we don't want any user to have direct access to the database itself, and also we don't want to have to manually posted the report in the shared folder, we want to set up this to be done automatically and the end user won't need to have MS access in their pc, perhaps exporting the report as an spreadsheet instead. I try by using Macros within Access but this will only work manually from the .mdb file. I also check what options do I have if I use Javascript but I don't think it will work either, since I'm not using Crystal Reports. Can you please provide me with some guidance, if this is actually possible from a database/report under MS Access 2003.
I'm using SQL Express with Advance Services & I get this error when I try to deploy my reports. Why do I get this error
An error has occurred during report processing. (rsProcessingAborted)

every 1 hour my server's computer is restarting ! when the windows finish restarting i open the Event viewer and see that what coused it is the error :

Hi there, I have a problem accessing web service using Web service Task. I set up the task and can see methods available, but the result of execution is only that: <Result>The result is null. Either the result is null or the Web method returns void.</Result> I can connect and get data using C# application. The difference is that I use a token in connection there. What should I do with Web Service Task to fix it?
We have a billing web service where you passs in the account and amount and get returned an XML string with result. I had suggested that I open up an endpoint and have the service listen for messages but the programming team wont go for it.
What is the best method for me to call an external web service? I have tried sp_OACreate and run into memory leaks and have not had much luck with assemblies. See http://www.codeproject.com/script/comments/forums.asp?forumid=1725&select=2180035&df=100&msg=2180035
Please someone tell me, is it possbile to run Reporting service in MS-Access environment? I mean to say i have to use MS-Access as user interface to design and generate report (instead of Visual studio IDE) and the Sql server 2005 should be Report Server. If it is possible then how can i implement it.
Is there a way to change color of the report by add the code and when you click the label will call the code up and change the report color (print friendly)?
I need to use the ReportingService2005 class in C++ app. The MSDN tells that the class must be in reportingservice2005.dll. Where I could get the reportingservice2005.dll file ? I did global search for reportingservice2005.dll but without success.
I work at a place that does device testing where the test results are saved in a SQL database. I have an objective to create a plan for a pilot project to place the data on our intranet so our engineering dept can research test results.
I'm trying to find some group I can beg / borrow / pay to look at our schema and help me chart out what tools we should use and how much (ballpark) work is involved.
I'm a VB.NET developer. I did a tutorial on SQL Reporting Services and see potential there. I skimmed a tutorial on SQL Analysis services, and like the idea of being able to trend our data. But it's over my head at this point to get from where I'd like to be to what Microsoft tools to use and how to put them together.
I contacted one local DB/Developer shop and they wanted to bring in a team of engineers for two days and charge us $6000 for a "total solution". Instead of that, I'd like to maybe spend an hour on the phone and some emails to send a schema to someone who knew the tools inside/out and get a pretty good recommendation for a reasonable price.
I was doing the microsoft example about cube to setup DSN SOURCE CONNECTION to ACCESS database (food mart) when i do a test

I'm a SQL 2005 developer DBA with a 1.5 years experience with SQL Server 2005. It has been a while since I needed to use SSIS. I used it with no problems earlier this year when I was managing the team conversion to SQL Server 2005. Now it no longer appears on my START > Programs > SQL Server 2005 menus. I had to reinstall SQL Server 2005 and Visual Studio 2005 months ago and must have lost it then some how.
How do I get access to BIDS and SSIS again?
SQL Server Integrated Services shows up in my Services list as running. I've already tried Add/Remove Programs to drop that component from SQL Server 2005, reboot, Add it back, reboot. Still does not show up in my menus and the Service is running. The Setup Bootstraplog summary for this effort shows no failures and shows this:

So what gives?

Hi I am developing a Windows Service product and use SQLCE 3.1 as data store, I found problem, that, when I inserted a record to sqlce data store from within service, I got an hidden window, the name is ms_sqlce_se_notify_wndproc, Could anyone has idea of how to disable this hidden window? Because my product is running as Windows Service, so this hidden window would be a serious security hole.

My SQL Server and MSDE, running under Windows XP, has been operating fault free since a year. Suddenly I cannot connect with the error "SQL Server Does Not Exist or Access Denied". I cannot find anything abnormal in the Client nor the SQL server. The only changes in my PC are done when installing the updates and the problem started after I installed Service Pack 2. Is this just a coincident or could there be some relation with the new Security centre in Service pack 2. I have compared with the same set up in another PC without Service Pack 2 and there everything works fine. Any suggestions please?
I removed MDS web UI which is working before and recreated. I enabled Window Authentication and Disabled Anonymous Authentication in IIS Authentication. I am getting Access denied when I view MDS web Site.

Looks like I need some additional adjustment on the authentication. But I do not know where and how.
I try to change the webservice identity but after changing the user identity of the application pool in iis ( I think this is the only way to change webservice identity) I got the error message service unavailable in IIS. With this I also couldn't start the webfront end any more. Switching back to NT-AuthorityNetwork Serive the web front end worked again.
I tryed to add
Code Snippet<identity impersonate="true" />
to the web config and I get the same Error on the webserver account...
It would be great if someone could help me to adjust the settings...
I have installed MS 2005 report service. I checked the IIS configuration and the default web server started and checked Report Services Configuration Manager and report server status is running. However when I go to http://servername/reportserver , it said Services Unavailabe ? Can anyone please tell me what else I am missing? Many thanks.
I have a report that requires to join a lot of tables.
May I ask if I can use a stored procedure to make all the joins and populate a temp table, then make the report sit on the temp table. so every time the user runs the report, it will kick off the stored procedure which will truncate the temp table and repopulate it, then show the report.
I'm currenlty stuck in a situation not unlike http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=1910495&SiteID=1 .
I've built a service exposed as basicHTTPBinding with WCF and am trying to create a report using this service as a datasource.
I've used a ".svc" file to host my web service as part of an existing ASP.NET application.
In my dev environment, the service is accessible as ht tp://localhost:10827/IncidentListes.svc (which gives the "how to generate a client for this service" page) while ht tp://localhost:10827/IncidentListes.svc?wsdl returns the following WSDL for the service :
