Hello everybody.
Recently my boss decide migrate reports in Oracle Discoverer to SqlServer 2005 using Reporting Services..because SqlServer is less expensive than Oracle. ..
Well I don't know exactly How do I began? because it's new for me.

I am trying to 'load' a copy of a SQLServer 2000 database to SQLServer 2005 Express (on another host). The copy was provided by someone else - it came to me as a MDF file only, no LDF file.
I have tried to Attach the database and it fails with a failure to load the LDF. Is there any way to bypass this issue without the LDF or do I have to have that?
The provider of the database says I can create a new database and just point to the MDF as the data source but I can't seem to find a way to do that? I am using SQL Server Management Studio Express.
Thanks!!
I am trying to restore a database backed up using SQL Server 2005 Express Edition to a server using MSDE. I get an error 3205 "Too many backup devices specified...64 max..."
I'm only specifying one file for the restore.
Ideas?

View 1 Replies View RelatedHi;I thought I would rephrase a question I asked in another post to morequickly get to the heart of the matter. My apologies for anyone whois offended by what appears to be a repetition. My company has two identical web sites. One copy is for our customer, and one copy is for us to test our code changes on.We developed a hard to isolate bug in the copy of the web stie for ourcustomers. We believe the bug might be data related. We would like to replace our test database with our productiondatabase to try to reproduce the problem without interrupting ourservice to our customers. The test database and production database have all the same tables andstructures, but the names of the databases are slightly different. We have tried dropping tables from our test database and importingtables from our customer database in Management Studio. We got thedata but the identity fields were turned off as identities. We canmanually turn them back on in Management Studio, but we have severalhundred tables. In the end we just want to the data from our customer db to be in ourtest db with the test db name being the same, and have our identityfields preserved. What is the easiest way to do this? Thanks in advance for anyinformationSteve

In SQL 2000, When I restore a database backup called "A" as "B" the datafile name and log file will change automatically with the new restored database name , whereas in SQL 2005 the datafile name and log file name remains with backup database name.
Will this issue be addressed in next release of service pack.

My customer has SQL Server 2005. I have SQL Server 2000 on my laptop (on XP Pro). I believe I have an empty database the same as theirs, but I need to restore their data. They sent me a normal SQL Backup, but my laptop threw a fit and cannot work with it.
They are now trying to export the database to Microsoft Access and send me that, but I won't get that until next week now. However is there a better and easier solution for those of us with insufficient experience of this, please?
Many thanks,
Caspar

Hi
We have upgraded sql server 2000 to sqlserver 2005 on the development server.
To access the database server, we installed the sql server management studio on the client PC with Admin Account. The .Net framework and sqlserver management studio were installed and I am able to access the database from the client PC using Admin Login. Then we logged off and tried to login as user account on the client PC. From the user account login we are unable to open the sql server management studio. The error is as follows
€œThe proper type library could not be found in system registry€?
The client PC configuration : windows 2000 Professional ( sp4)

The following failed in EM (or whatever it is called now managementstudio I think) and I scripted it out and ran it in a query window toget more info. This works fine in SQL 2000 but not in 2005. I also triedto 'create' the database first then ran this command below but with the'force restore over existing database' checked on but this failed alsowhich is odd as well. Any ideas. This is my very first play with 2005 soit is not off to a great start although to be fair, i seem to have gorlucky on the install as it all went OK. I have not tried to restore/attach in the same instance name from which it was backed up. Is it compulsory to have same instance name to attach/restore?
Can any one help me?
Thank you.
I am using SQL server 2005 9.00.3042 . When I go to databases restore, restore to Northwind, from device
I select backup device and select SDLT. The actual backup device is LTO3.
The error is an exception occurred while executing a Transact-SQL statement of batch
Timeout expired. The timeout period elapsed prior to completion or the server is not responding.
I checked and we have no firewall turned on this server
I tried on another SQL 2005 9.00.3042 server - this one has an SDLT drive and the error is similar
Restore headeronly is terminating abnormally
Is there a way to grant rights to a user to be able to restore a specific database on a server, without being able to muck around with other databases on the server?
View 1 Replies View RelatedIs it possible to do a full restore of a database without restoring the full-text catalogs? At the end of each month, we restore a copy of a database for quick access to month-end data with a different name. e.g. we restore the database DBN as DBN1107. Since upgrading to SQL 2005, the restore is failing because it it trying to restore the full-text catalog.
View 2 Replies View RelatedHi experts;
I have a problem with unicode character 0x2300
I created this table
create table testunicode (Bez nchar(128))
Insert Data
insert into testunicode (Bez)values('Œ€„¢')
with 2 Unicode characters
Œ€ = 0x2300
„¢ = 0x2122
Selecting the data
select Bez from testunicode
I see
"?„¢"
„¢ = 0x2122 is ok but instead of 0x2300 there is 0x3f
When I modify the insert statement like that ( 8960 = 0x2300 )
insert into testunicode (Bez)values(NCHAR(8960)+'„¢')
and select again voila i see
"Œ€„¢"
Does anyone have an idea?
Thanks
Hello Guys
We´re in a big deep problem...
We lost some data from our SQLServer and now we discover that the SQLServer agent was not running and the backup was not being performed.
Is that any way to recover the lost data from the log files, even if we have to retype everything?
Regards
