I am using Visual Studio 2005 and SQL Express 2005. The database was converted from MS Access 2003 to SQL Express by using the upsize wizard.
I would like to store the current date & time in a column in a table. This column is a smalldatetime column called 'lastlogin'.
The code I'm using is:
Dim sqlcommand As New SqlCommand _
("UPDATE tableXYZ SET Loggedin = 'True', LastLogin = GetDate() WHERE employeeID = '" & intEmployeeID.ToString & "'", conn)
Try
conn.Open()
sqlcommand.ExecuteNonQuery()
conn.Close()
Catch ex As Exception
MessageBox.Show(ex.Message)
End Try
This code works fine on my local machine and local SQL server. However at the client side this code results in the error as mentioned in the subject of this thread. I first used 'datetime.now' instead of 'getdate()', but that caused the same error. Then I changed the code to 'getdate()', but the error still remains.
The server at the client is running Windows Server 2000 UK . My local machiine is running WIndows XP Dutch.
Maybe the conversion from Dutch to UK has something to do with it. But this should be solved by using the 'Getdate()' function..... ?
I have problem to execute query with interval date.
If try this query I don't have problem and the output is correct:
SELECT * FROM dotable WHERE dotableDate BETWEEN CONVERT (datetime, '01/01/2015', 121) AND CONVERT (datetime, '09/01/2015', 121);Instead if try this I have error: SELECT * FROM dotable WHERE dotableDate BETWEEN CONVERT (datetime, '25/01/2015', 121) AND CONVERT (datetime, '28/01/2015', 121);
[Err] 22007 - [SQL Server]The conversion of a varchar data type to a datetime data type resulted in an out-of-range value.
I have a field which is currently of the "date time" data type. i want to convert it to smalldatetime, but everytime I try, i get an error of the "The conversion from datetime data type to smalldatetime data type resulted in a smalldatetime overflow error. " sort.
I have tried to find the values which are out of the smalldatetime range, with the following query
SELECT *
FROM midmar
WHERE bday BETWEEN '01/01/1900' AND '06/05/2079'
Which doesn't quite work, and gives me values that are actually between those two values listed.
I have also tried having the WHERE clause read:
WHERE bday <'06/06/2079' AND
bday>'01/01/1900'
and that doesn't really work either.
What's going on? Is there likely another problem besides the structuring of my queries?
Hi, I have a column of type datetime in sqlserver 2000. Whenever I try to insert the date '31/08/2006 23:28:59' I get the error "...datetime data type resulted in an out-of-range datetime value" I've looked everywhere and I can't solve the problem. Please note, I first got this error from an asp.net page and in order to ensure that it wasn't some problem with culture settings I decided to run the query straight in Sql Query Anaylser. The results were the same. What else could it be? cheers, Ernest

Could anyone help of how to cast the value in C# resulted from max() command. To complicate the matter, from the query result I see in the Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio, if there are records the value is number. But if there are no records, the value is NULL. How do I handle these two possible different conditions? I have tried: - string test = (string)reader["MaxOrderID"]; - int test = Convert.ToInt32((string)reader["MaxOrderID"]); - string test = Convert.ToInt32(reader["MaxOrderID"]).ToString(); all failed. And what do I do if the value is NULL. And also how do I do to cope with these two different possible conditions? For example, I have the following code:command.CommandText = "Select max(OrderID) as 'MaxOrderID' from [Order]";command.CommandType = CommandType.Text;
I have a bit of a problem I haven't come across before. I was testing some restore code using smo, when the restore process got corrupted. Now I cannot log into that database file. Whenever I try and connect to it, I get a login error. Connections to this database file previoulsy worked very well.
I do not get login errors for databases with different names, or when using the same database file on another computer. There must be some data stored somewhere that is causing this. I have removed the database file and reloaded it, but to no avail. Any insight into this would be appreciated
I am attempting to write a SQL query that retrieves info processed between two times (ie. 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm) during a date range (ie. 8/1/06 to 8/14/06)... I am new to SQL and am perplexed... I have referenced several texts, but have not found a solution. Even being pointed in the right direction would be greatly appreciated!!
i run a sql command like this select * from table_name what i want is that if no. of records found are greater then 500 than it should stop the query and only show those 500 records dont go further and stop the process waiting for reply ashish bhatnagar
When running a query such as this on a database view:
select count(*) from WWALMDB.dbo.v_AlarmEventHistory2
SQL throws the following error:
The datediff function resulted in an overflow. The number of dateparts separating two date/time instances is too large. Try to use datediff with a less precise datepart.
Oddly on a Table the count(*) function works.
Is there a limit on views or the count(*) function that I am not aware of?
I am working on adding DBs to the AG but for some reason I am getting this error.
"Joining DB on secondary replica resulted in error"
Msg: The remote copy of the database is not recovered far enough to enable DB mirroring or to join AG. Missing log records have to be applied to the remote DB by restoring the current log backups" Which I did. I took the log backup of DB1, restored it on DB2 with no recovery, but still I am getting the same error.
We've been using SQL Server 2005 for a while as the db for our web app. Everything has been working fine, until yesterday when we started getting a "Arithmetic operation resulted in an overflow. While doing performance testing on a Tomcat based web application using the v1.1 JDBC driver connecting to SQL Server 2005, the tomcat server has been throwing the above exception at a fairly low rate. I have seen some related issues in the forums with v1.1 of the MS JDBC driver, but those were asking about connection reset related errors. In this case the 'invalid packet header' exception is consistently seen. I am in the process of repeating the test with some additional application side logging turned on, and have tried enabling FINEST level logging for the driver, but that leaves me with a 500MB log file and so far no instances of that exception in question being thrown. This is not unusual, the error has only been seen about 14 times in about 20 tests, with each test running about an hour and a half.
A few quick tests with the 1.2 driver did not throw this exception, but did throw a high number of '[Connection|Statement|Resultset] Closed'
While I gather more information, I was wondering if there is anything significant in this particular exception type that could point to a more specific set of tests I could run?
The exceptions seen so far:

I have 2 tables, one is table A which stores Resources Assign to work for a certain period. The structure is as below
Name StartDate EndDate Tan 2015-04-01 08:30:00.000 2015-04-01 16:30:00.000 Max 2015-04-01 08:30:00.000 2015-04-01 16:30:00.000 Alan 2015-04-01 16:30:00.000 2015-04-02 00:30:00.000
The table B stores the item process time. The structure is as below
Item ProcessStartDate ProcessEndDate V 2015-04-01 09:30:10.000 2015-04-01 09:34:45.000 Q 2015-04-01 10:39:01.000 2015-04-01 10:41:11.000 W 2015-04-01 11:44:00.000 2015-04-01 11:46:25.000 A 2015-04-01 16:40:10.000 2015-04-01 16:42:45.000 B 2015-04-01 16:43:01.000 2015-04-01 16:45:11.000 C 2015-04-01 16:47:00.000 2015-04-01 16:49:25.000
I need to select the item which process in 2015-04-01 16:40:00 and 2015-04-01 17:30:00. Beside that I need to know how many resource is assigned to process the item in that period of time. I only has the start date is 2015-04-01 16:40:00 and end date is 2015-04-01 17:30:00. How I can select the data from both tables. There is no need for JOIN, just seperate selections.
Another item process time is in 2015-04-01 10:00:00 and 2015-04-04 11:50:59.
The result expected is
Table A
Name StartDate EndDate Alan 2015-04-01 16:30:00.000 2015-04-02 00:30:00.000
Table B
Item ProcessStartDate ProcessEndDate A 2015-04-01 16:30:10.000 2015-04-01 16:32:45.000 B 2015-04-01 16:33:01.000 2015-04-01 16:35:11.000 C 2015-04-01 16:37:00.000 2015-04-02 16:39:25.000
Scenario 2 expected result
Table A

I have a need to select rows where values in a column are within a range AND ALSO the first row that is highest (MAX) but just UNDER the range. For example:

RANGE TO SELECT is 6-8 (inclusive)
Rows with a value in the range are returned (6, 7, & 8) as well as the row with a highest value that is JUST BELOW the range (5)

THE ERROR RETURNED IN MY CLIENT APP IS [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]The conversion of char data type to smalldatetime data type resulted in an out-of-range smalldatetime value.
AND THAT IN QA IS

can ne 1 point out the mistake in my sql statement ?
I have an Execute SQL Task that pulls the max date from a sql table.
SELECT max(date_Idx) FROM dbo.FactDailyInventorySnapshot
This field is defined as a smalldatetime. I want to store this max date in a variable in SSIS called LastDate.
Then in a data flow, in an OLE DB Source, I want to use it as a parm in a sql command to compare to a smalldatetime field.
My question is, what type of variable do I declare it in in SSIS, and what is the correct parameter mapping inside of my sql query? I thought I had exhausted all combinations of variable types and parameter types. I have even tried casting it as different data types when I do the exec sql task of getting the max date. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
I need to convert a datetime field to smalldatetime. This particular field we only care about the time portion (an example would be '1899-12-30 13:15:00.000') For now I created another field say 'newTime' that is smalldatetime, in which I want to "update" to the smalldatetime version of the data. I know this will truncate the ms, but I don't care about that. Also the min date that can be used with smalldatetime is Jan 1 1900. Not sure how to go about doing this.
Hi guys! I need to convert datetime data type to smalldatetime on production server with hundreds transactions per minute. In this case do I need to restrict users access to the table or put table in the single user mode? Or it doesn't have any impact on productivity and I just can open Design table window in SQL Enterprise Manager and edit it? Thank you in advance, Igor
I am looking for just the date element of a datetime/smalldatetime col. For example the rows appear in typical datetime/smalldatetime format as:
1999-11-30 07:53:00
I need just "1999-11-30". So how do I strip off the time element? Datepart doesn't seem to be the route to take. I also need to use the date with Datediff so by stripping off the time element, I still need to keep the date element as a date datatype.
Hi, i´m have a problem with the Convert function in sql 7 enterprise when i have the value '07-31-1967' format mm-dd-yyyy i recivied the error 296 The conversion of char data type to smalldatetime data type resulted in an out-of-range smalldatetime value
the sentence i use is set @dfnacimien = (Convert(varchar(10),@dfnacimien,110))
Hi, My system has SQL Server 7.0. I am retrieving date from an asp page using ADODB, I get the date in 'mm/dd/yy' format when I use smalldatetime as my datatype. I am aware that smalldatetime datatype is supposed to retieve data in 'mm/dd/yyyy' format. Please let me know if you have any inputs on this.
Rather than reinvent the wheel, can someone pass along a date/time function combination? I have a field of smallDateTime being used primarily for the time value - all rows have the same date. e.g., format is 10/22/2005 01:00:00 PM.
What's the easiest function combination to get all rows for day (then night) where day is defined as 6am-10pm (night is midnight-6am and 10pm-midnight). Thought I could use datepart and hh, but it doesn't give me 1 pm as the true miliary time of 13.
