Some idiot changed it to a hardcoded value and now I want to have the default back.

Override Default Button In Properties-&&>Parameters Section
Feb 28, 2007I wrote a report in Visual Studio with some parameters that I gave default values to in the report definition. I deployed it out to the report server and when I look at the report Properties, Parameters section to see the default values. Instead of seeing all of the default values, I see a bunch of "Override Default" buttons. When you click the buttons, you get a blank text box in which to enter a new value.
Someone before me created a report with default values and the parameters section of that report has text boxes with the default values in them.
Does anyone know how to have the default values show up rather than those "Override Default" buttons?

Multi-value Parameter In Master Report Passing To Single Param Sub-report In A List.
Aug 20, 2007Here's tricky one.
I have a fairly complex report that was given to me that was hard coded for single parameters. There is a dropdown for each market (created from a query in SSRS). The users have to run for each market each week.
Is there a way to use this report as a Sub-report inside a list of a master report and then use a mult-value parameter?
I want this multi-value parameter to build the values for the list and then run the "sub-report" for each value.
Essentially, I want to create a for each loop.
Any ideas?

Nov 5, 2007How do I display multiple parameter values on report page from a multi-value report parameter. For example, I have a report parameter where users can select multiple attendance codes and I want them displayed at the top of the report after it's run.

1) I have a report with many parameters that I want users to be able to pick from. Allow them to pick 1, many or all to build their report dynamically. I'm all set on the TSQL side, but on the Reporting Services side I have to allow each parameter to be null with a default of NULL. In by doing this, the report will auto run, which I do not want to happen. The only resolution I've found thus far was by adding a parameter that does nothing, with a NULL default value. Yet It sticks out like a sore thumb on the report and I want to get rid of it. If I check in "Hidden" in the parameter options, my report errors out stating that the parameter requires a value.
2) Is it possible to have a parameter that has available values from a dataset have a NULL checkbox like those of parameters that do not have available values?
3) Is it possible to add back/forward buttons inside of a report instead of just at the report header by default?

After creating a linked Server on a SQL-Server 2005 connected to a DB2 instance
i have the problem that my catalog is named in the object explorer: default.
Why is it so?
And how can i fix it.
While the catalog is named "default" i can't use the four parted names to use statements.
Maybe anyone can help me?

Report Builder Using Report Model Based On Linked Server (Excel) - Primary Key?
Sep 6, 2007I've created a linked server with a pretty basic Excel spreadsheet, and used this command to create a linked server to it:
sp_addlinkedserver ''XL_SPS_1', 'Excel', 'Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0', 'c:MyExcel.xls', null, 'Excel 8.0'
I want to use this as the data from which to build a report model. As linked servers don't show up in the Data Source View wizard, I created a view in SQL Server:

Okay, great, now the view shows up in the DSV wizard and I can create the data source view. However, when I create a new report model based on this data source view, the Report Model Wizard tells me at "Create entities for all tables" that I've got an error when it processes dbo_MyExcel that "Table does not have a primary key."
I assume this is where the identifying attributes for the entities in the report model are taken from, so I really can't go further. Does anyone have an idea as to how to add a primary key to a linked server (Excel) in SQL 2005? Can this be done? Other than importing spreadsheet data to a SQL table, how can I get around this?

I have a 3 columns in my matrix in the SSRS summary report. Actn_COAST, ActnCITY and NumbOfAccts.
The following is code for my summary report. The results are shown below.

I have linked my report based on the NumbOfAccts column. I am able to get data if I click any of the NumbOfAccts values related to the state I want. However when I am not sure how to make the subtotal and grand total work. I want when I click on the subtotal of either coast, I should be able to see records of that coast e.g., if I select 37 I should be able to see all the records in East Coast. If I click on the Grand Total, I only want data related to those 2 coasts.

Strange Error On Linked Server - Cannot Open Default Database
Apr 16, 2007Hi,We have 2 servers. Server1 is a 2000 box, with SP3 (yes I know it isnot up to date). Server2 is a 2005 box, SP2.I set up Server1 (2000) to have a linked server to Server2 (2005). Thereason I did this is because we are using a stored procedure onServer2 to send mail, as we have found that using mail on 2000 doesn'talways work as advertised.When I set up the linked server on the 2000 box, for security I justset it up to use a SQL Server user on the 2005 box. The SQL Serveruser on the 2005 box has permissions to run the stored procedure forsending mail.Here's the weird thing though. When calling the stored procedure onthe 2005 box from the 2000 box, sometimes we get an error that "Thedefault database cannot be opened", and the query does not run on the2005 box. However, it only happens *sometimes*. Other times, the queryruns fine.Since the problem seeemed to be with the default database, I changedthe SQL Server user on 2005 default database to the SAME database thatcontains the stored procedure.However, I just don't understand why it's even TRYING to open thedefault database, since when we called the linked server we are doingso as, and it's referencing the default database in the name:EXEC Server2.DefaultDatabase.dbo.StoredProcedureNameHowever, after changing the user's default database to"DefaultDatabase" as shown above, the query runs fine.Why are we having this problem? That is, if I change the defaultdatabase to something other than "DefaultDatabase", then the querydoesn't run, even though the database name is referenced in the abovequery??Obviously, this is not desireable, because that means we can only runqueries that are in "DefaultDatabase", which may not always be thecase.Thanks much

I don't have access to backups and am unable to correctly configure my local machine to add a linked server. So I plan to retrieve the data to a datatable, copy it in code and save it to my local server. But the table contains an identity column which I will need to insert the values manually so they match the original.
Can anyone tell me how I can set the datatable's save to use my manual values instead of the autonumber value?

Nov 2, 2015If a column is set to allow nulls I know that a constraint can be used to supply a default (i.e. GetDate() ) when no value is provided but what about when an explicit NULL is provided in an INSERT or UPDATE statement?Is there any way other then an AFTER trigger to substitute a value for an explicitly provided NULL? In other words, assuming that dtAsof is a NULL enabled column, is there any way to over ride what the following will do to MYTABLE:
INSERT MYTABLE(sCol1, sCol2, sCol3, dtAsOf)
SELECT 'a', 'b', 'c', NULL
If there's no way to do this in SQL Server 2008R2 then what about later versions of SQL Server? Do any more recent versions have a way to deal with this? We have a third party app that uses a SQL Server back end and many of the tables have columns for storing audit like data such as date/time but many are left to NULL values and I'd really like to fix that in as passive a way as possible so as to not break the app that uses the database. I know a constraint with a default can be sued to over ride a null but not when a null is explicitly provided.

Datetime Report Parameter Default Value

I have a report parameter StartDateTime. I set the default value to Now(). When I go to preview, the StartDateTime parameter is empty and its been locked. I am not even able to set it to different value in preview.
Can anyone help me how to set the datetime parameter to default value(Now).
Issue 2:
I have a stored procedure which takes StartDateTime parameter. Whenever the report refreshes using autorefresh interval, the startdatetime should default to Now. Right now the startdatetime defaults to whatever the value is there before i hit view report. how to do that using stored procedure.

Need Option To Override Control Position Changes - Tables Force Other Controls To End Of Rows
Apr 14, 2007I am creating printed questionnaires based on data in a table. Portions of the layout must be exact and not be moved on the page.
I have some textboxes and rectangles on the left of a report and a table on the right. The table forces all the controls on the left to appear AFTER the last row and I can find no workaround. Basically, no controls can appear to the left of a table. The texboxes on the left give instructions to the user on how to fill out the items in the table on the right and I need them to remain where I place them. I have many other reports that require fixed positions.
Other report writers have texbox and label options to work around this . For example Visual Foxpro has an "Object Position" property with options for "Float", "Fix position relative to top of band", "Fix position relative to bottom of band". This allows the position to be forced if necessary.
This is very much needed and wanted in the Report Writer and I request it for the next release or service pack.
