Hi i followed Microsofts "Implementing Row-and-Cell-Level Security in Classified Databases Using SQL Server 2005"

this works fine when i insert delete data on a normal script (mangement studio)

my project runs in a SSIS package, different users. i cannot do a bulk insert using OLEDB data Destination i get the following error

Cell Level Security And Reporting Services.

May 27, 2008

Hopefully, someone has figured this out:

I've implemented and tested cell level security on the cube. It's testing certain level conditions, and returns #N/A (as normal) when the user is not supposed to see the cell value. Since I always use .FormattedValue in my reports, works fine in Report Services (and Excel and ProClarity, etc.)

Here's the problem:

When RS parameters encounter this situation, the parameter dataset "breaks" (The following system error occurred: Type mismatch.) This is happening, because the parameter fields (ParameterValue, ParameterCaption, ParameterLevel) are being replaced by #N/A, due to the cell level security. This is happening, because these are actually defined as members, and hence passing through cell level security.

What I need to do is find a way to have these specific members bypass the cell level security, so that the parameter datasets still work. (Failing that, a new way of specifying parameters in MSRS.)

I've tried the following a a cell level security rule, but it doesn't seem to work:

[Measures].CurrentMember is [Measures].[ParameterValue] or [Measures].CurrentMember is [Measures].[ParameterCaption] or
[Measures].CurrentMember is [Measures].[ParameterLevel] or
[Measures].[Is Visible]

Any ideas?

Integration Services :: Referring To Text Stored In Package Level Object?

Jul 12, 2015

I am developing a table driven ETL system, where I store large PL/SQL queries in a varchar(max) field.  I read the field into an object variable at the package level using a SQL task.  Next I have a C# script task that creates a connection to our Oracle database using the Oracle provider.  I am trying to set the Command.Text property to the PL/SQL statement I've stored in the package level object variable, but I'm having difficulty getting the Pl/SQL text back out of the object.

I've tried Object.value.tostring, but it just returns a generic "system__text". how I can proceed?

Integration Services :: SSIS Bulk Insert Error Truncation

Nov 17, 2015

I have am having some issues bulk inserting from a flat file (CSV) to the database. I have also tried this by using the import and export wizard and get the following error:

I dont understand what the issue. The table that i have created looks like this:

CREATE TABLE IderaPatchAnalyzer
(
IP_Adresse varchar(64) NOT NULL,
Release_ varchar(50) NOT NULL,
Level_ varchar(50)NOT NULL,
Edition_ varchar(50) NOT NULL,

[Code] .....

I have in the changed the outputcolumnwidth in Ip_Adresse to 64. The length of the cells are not near 50 however i want it to be sure that its not the case. When I try to do the same in my SSIS project, i also get an error. I do get a warning: Truncation may occur due to inserting data from data flow column """"KB Available""" with a length o..... in that column there are max 5 varchar:  "yes" and "no". The  """"KB Available""" is the column name in the flat file (CSV), I have made checkmark in Column names in the first data row.

I have used the following guide for my SSIS project:

Integration Services :: How To Work In Project Deployment Model

Oct 22, 2015

I have a VS 2012 SSIS project with more and more packages being added. I've got project parameters so I'm committed to the project deployment model (which is pretty convenient BTW). My question is how we're supposed to occasionally limit the packages we want deployed. There are times when 2 or more packages may be in development and 1 is deployable and the other not. I can temporarily exclude the not ready package and then deploy. It seems cumbersome bringing it back in. BIDS complains that all the tasks have lost their connection managers; even though they're are present in the editor. And it makes a copy of the .dtsx.

what's the recommended way to work in this environment?

Integration Services :: SSIS 2008 R2 Set Values Does Not Work As Intended

Oct 13, 2015

At one of my accounts I'm using SQL 2008r2 and SSIS in an DWH solution. Today I wanted to created a dynamic sql statement in one of the packages. The dynamic part is in the where-clause a sql query I use. I want to set the values for this clause dynamically. Therefor I created a user variable (named 'Filter') which should get it´s value at run-time.

/DTS "MSDBProdMy Package" /SERVER "My-Server" /CHECKPOINTING OFF /REPORTING EW /SET "Package.Variables[User::Filter].Properties[Expression]";" where [Starting Date] < '2008-09-01 00:00:00.000' "

However when I execute this package with dtexecui it doesn not use the value specified after the /SET parameter, but instead uses the value specifiied at design time. I get the same when I add the execution of ths pacakage as a sql server job step (type SSIS).  I would expect that value specified after the /SET parameter would overwrite the valus specified at design time, but I don't see that happening.

Integration Services :: Parameterized Bulk Copy - Disabling Indexes For Performance Causes Timeout Exception

Sep 23, 2015

My requirement is to sling a rowset from one place in SQL server into a table in another place in the most performant way. I want this to be parameterizable -  I want to provide just a connection string and some SQL for the source and a connection string and a table name for the destination.  The package should do the rest.

The solution I chose was an 2014 SSIS package with source and destination as ADO.NET connections configured from project variables.  The package has a script task to bulk copy the data.  For performance I disable the non-clustered indexes first.

But this performance precaution causes the bulk copy to timeout after delivering the correct rowcount to the destination table. What I can do to avoid this error?

Here's my script code:

//get hold of the source and a data reader from it
SqlConnection sqlconnSource = new SqlConnection();
sqlconnSource = (SqlConnection)(Dts.Connections["source"].AcquireConnection(Dts.Transaction) as SqlConnection);
SqlCommand sourcesqlCommand = new SqlCommand(SourceSQL, sqlconnSource);
sourcesqlCommand.CommandTimeout = 1500;

[Code] ....

This takes 128 seconds to put 13 million thin rows into my empty destination table and then throws an exception with this message:

Timeout expired. The timeout period elapsed prior to completion of the operation or the server is not responding.

Integration Services :: SSIS Bulk Insert Fails On Unicode File With GUID Column

Jun 3, 2015

I am using SQL Server Data Tools for Visual Studio 2012. I have a very simple SSIS package with a Data Flow task that exports from an OLE DB Source to a tab-delimited unicode Flat File Destination and a Bulk Insert task that loads from the file. Both the Flat File Destination and Bulk Import are using the same code page. The Bulk Insert task is using the wide char format to read from the file. The process works fine with nvarchar and int columns, but when I add a unique identifier column it fails with "type mismatch or invalid character for the specified code page".

Bulk Inserts

Mar 3, 2006

I'm trying to perform a bulk insert as shown below. It's problematic b/c it's not updating the identity fields correctly and we're getting dups. I think, but I'm not sure, that On Update Cascade would solve all this, b/c we wouldn't have to concern ourselves with even touching the identity fields, b/c they would be autogenerated. Can someone shed some light?? I'm pretty confused.

Using Triggers With Bulk Inserts

May 4, 2005

Hello All.

I am attempting an

insert into <tablename> select * from...

This is inserting thousands of rows into a table that has a trigger on it. The trigger updates a seperate table.

Now my question is will the trigger fire for every record inserted because I need it to fire only once as the table the trigger is updating is becoming locked when the insert statement is executed. I am assuming it is because of the number of times the trigger is being fired that the table is becoming locked. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Bulk Inserts Between Two Different DBMS

Sep 21, 2004

Hi folks,
I have a table located in DB2 nd I need to have a mirror image of this table on a SQL2000 database to avoid some server downtime problems.
Right now I have a solution using ADO.NET with Windows Services.

This windows service invokes itself everyday morning and pulls all the records from this table in DB2 to a dataset. Then I loop through the dataset and insert every record into SQL 2000 Table. This method is working fine ( It take approximately 2 minutes to insert 5000 records). I am just wondering whether there is any way to acheive bulk insertion in this case. Considering future growth of table I am not thinking the existing solution is neither elegant nor efficient.

Please let me know if I can achive the same either using XML, BULK INSERTS or any other mechanism in ADO.NET and please remeber that we are talking about data migration between different DBMS ( DB2 to SQL 2000)

Thanks,
Sai

SQL 2012 :: Blocking During Bulk Inserts?

Dec 9, 2014

We are noticing a lot of blocking when performing bulk inserts.

Sometimes the lead blocker(s) are blocking inserts into the same tables, but most of the time, it's insert to other tables. So, while bulk insert into table X is running, bulk insert into table Y is blocked from the insert into X.

- We turned off transactions from the application performing the bulk inserts - no change.

- We enabled table locking from the application - no change

- We enabled lock_on_bulk_load on the tables - this seems to have worked; however still see some blocking.

According to the lock_on_bulk article - When you specify table locking for a bulk import operation, a bulk update (BU) lock is taken on the table for the duration of the bulk-import operation, shouldn't we be seeing this BU lock? Instead, we see nothing but LCK_M_X (exclusive table locks).

Just found out that in order get a BU lock, no indexing can exist on the table ... sure be nice if that was in the article!

Also, we saw the exclusive locks happening before we made these changes, meaning it wasn't using the row locks that it should be by default. Assuming we're missing something here with lock escalation. I am profiling just for lock escalation, and it never happens ...

So I guess my pending question at this time is that why when inserting into table X do inserts into table Y get blocked?

T-SQL (SS2K8) :: Bulk Inserts In Batch?

Jun 16, 2015

I have a table with 370 million rows and 50+ columns. I need to change the data type of a column from character to numeric. Here's what it contains:

40 million with numbers I want to keep, the rest I just want to set to null:

4k with alpha characters
55 million other numbers
275 million empty strings

An alter column statement fails not just on the alpha characters but on the empty strings. So I tried a couple things on a test database to get an idea of the time it would take:

An update statement to clear out the non-numeric data is too slow (~1.5 days, batched 10000 at a time). I think I probably should create a new column anyway though, so I'm going to copy the data to a new table since it would be faster than adding a new column to the original table.

An insert ... select ... takes about 12 hours; adding WITH (TABLOCK) didn't seem to have any effect, and I'm not sure how to batch it. Recovery model is simple.

A select ... into ... only takes about 1 hour, but can't be batched.

Using a 3rd party ETL tool takes about 5 hours, batched.

I wanted to batch it to minimize impact on other queries but primarily the logs. Is there any way to do a fast batched bulk transfer within SSMS?

BULK INSERT Inserts 2 Rows

May 15, 2008

Greetings

Got bulk insert thing going real nice thanks to your feedback! But now I notice that the BULK INSERT creates 2 identical rows while the flat file has the column headers and then corresponding row, just one row.
Why would it do that. Interestingly if the data file and format file are residing on a shared folder on SQL 2005, and I ran the BULK INSERT from studio it only inserts one row. But when I do BULK INSERT via user interface it creates 2 rows. What is going here.

Bulk Inserts To Data Warehouse - Best Practices?

Jul 20, 2005

Hello all,I just started a new job this week and they complain about the length oftime it takes to load data into their data warehouse,which they do once a month.From what I can gather, they rebuild the indexes before the insert with an80% Fillfactor, then insert the data (with theindexes enabled), then rebuild the indexes with a 100% Fillfactor.Most of my RDBMS experience is with a different product. We would havedisabled the indexes and Foreign Keys, loaded the data, thenre-enabled them, moving any records that violated the constraints into anappropriate audit table to be checked after.Can someone share with me what the accepted "best practices" are for loadingdata efficiently into a data warehouse?Any thoughts would be deeply appreciated.Steve

Client Workstation Initiated Bulk Inserts Fail

Sep 24, 2007

I'm setting up a new 2005 server and bulk insert from a client workstation (using windows authentication) is failing with:

Msg 4861, Level 16, State 1, Line 1
Cannot bulk load because the file "\FILESERVERNAMEsharedfolderfilename.txt" could not be opened. Operating system error code 5(Access is denied.).

Here's my BULK INSERT statement (though I'm pretty sure there's nothing wrong with it):

BULK INSERT #FIRSTROW FROM '\FILESERVERNAMEsharedfolderfilename.txt'
WITH (
DATAFILETYPE = 'char',
ROWTERMINATOR = '',
LASTROW = 1
)

If I run the same transact SQL when remote desktopped into the new server (under the same login as that used in the client workstation), it imports the file without errors.

If I use the sa client login from the client workstation (sql server authentication) the bulk insert succeeds.

My old SQL 2000 server lets me bulk insert the file without errors even from my client workstations using windows authentication.

I have followed the instructions on this site: http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=928173&SiteID=1
, but still no luck and same error.

I'm pretty sure it is being caused by the increased constraints on bulk insert in 2005. Hoping someone can help. The more specific the better. If you need more info, let me know.

Oh and I've also made sure that the SQL service uses a domain logon account rather than the local system account.

Note that the file server (source file resides there) is a DIFFERENT machine than the 2005 SQL server. If I move the source file to the sql server machine the error goes away (not a preferred solution though).

Thanks!

Row Level Security

May 23, 2008

Hi Folks,

I have the following Problem:
( not simular to
http://www.sqlteam.com/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=101916 )

In one Table ( Objects ) exists an Id to my internal Security Tables, where the combination of many Features together results in, which Data the user could see.
Today, i use only one SQL Account and the Security ist solved in my Application,
In an SP is a where Clause generated, every SQL Statement is extended whitch this where clause.
This work fine, but everyone with SQL User and PW could see everything this the Query Analyser or Management Studio.

The perfect solition could be:
Several Usergroups should have Access to my DB.
Only a few Views / SP where execuable for these Usergroups.

The Application calls alway the same View / SP an depending on the Login the Data ist filtered in the right way.

Is ist possible to filter a view with dynamic SQL ?

2.nd Question:

Is it possible to restrict Users / roles depending on the Network IP Address / Network Mask ?

The Security Problem only exists, when Users with VPN are connecting, internal Users always have full access.

Thanks an greeting from Germany,
Markus

Which Level Of Security

I am attempting to create a view only user in Report Manager which can only view and run reports from a single directory. I have the following configured:

Active directory Group: DomainReport Users - Group Scope: Global; Group Type: Security; Member of: <none>

Active directory User: DomainReportUser - Member of: DomainReport Users group

Default web site Reports virtual directory: Directory security: Integrated Windows Authentication only

Default web site ReportServer virtual directory: Directory security: Enable Anonymous Access (user: domainadministrator) & Integrated Windows Authentication

Report Manager

Site Settings->Item-level roles: New role: Report Viewer; view folders and view reports only items selected

ReportFolder(Report Manager folder with reports): Properties->Security: Added DomainReportUser with Report Viewer role

When I go to my Report Manager site (e.g. http://url/reports) I get the Windows security form, in which I enter the DomainReportUser credentials. However, after I log in I have full rights to all folders and functions of Report Manager, as if I logged in as BuiltinAdministrator.

At what level of security is this breaking down? As far as role-based, I believe DomainReportUser should only have access to limited resources of Report Manager when logging on. What is allowing him to have Content Manager control of Report Manager? Is there a better way to set up a "view reports only" user access to Report Manager?

Thanks

Row Level Security

Mar 9, 2007

Posting again in hopes that someone has a solution..

I've set up a sales report that is by territory. Two tables one of which has

sales detail records and another table with Sales Rep info, including territory and

login.. The two tables are joined by state. What I need to be able to do is schedule

this report to run on Reporting services(Already setup) and only allow the reps

to view a snapshot, don't want anyone executing the report again. Additionally,

I need them to only see the territory that they are responsible for. Does anyone

have a solution for this.

Thx again

Column Level Security

Apr 29, 2008

Hey,
I have 3 columns in a table Ex:
Select Column1,Column2,Column from TableName

No. 1. Person A should have permission to read values only (Column1, Column3 of the table) -
2. Person B, should have permission to read only (Column 2).

Here my question is , I have to write one single stored procedure to statisfy both conditions. Which means, if person A execute this stored procedure , he shoud get only column 1 & 3 values . similarly other person b should get column 2 value. Ex:
Column 1 - Empid
Column 2 - SSN (Only for Top user display)
Column 3 - Join Date
Person A & B as a SQL or Windows login

Thanks
