Rs.CreateReport() With Overwrite Set To True Fails To Update Report Description
Jan 3, 2007
When calling the RS SOAP API's CreateReport method, it doesn't seem like the report description is updated, unless I first delete the report and then recreate it.
Here's what my call looks like -
Warning[] warnings = rs.CreateReport(reportName, "/" + folder, true, buffer, null);
Is this a known issue?

Error with SSIS FTP download task:
How to recreate the error:
Download a file using the task.
Go to the file in Windows Exploder and Open the file in notepad.
Copy the last line of text and paste in a few extra rows at the bottom. So if you had 100 rows, you'll now have 103 rows.
Save the file.
Go back to the task and make sure you have "overwrite destination" set to True.
Execute the task.
Go back to the file and look at the bottom of the file. You'll see the same 3 extra rows you pasted in there.
That is not how it should work if it was supposed to be released like that.
Are there any patches that fix this error?

I have a cube that has a Dimension set up with several values some of which are bools. While Browsing in Excel or SSMS, two new values, when used as a filter shows (All) (Blank) and (True) for selections instead of (All) (True) and (False).Â

Hi,
I've got a table containing calculated values, so i created a field named "archived" (bit datatype) on this table, to prevent the values to be updated if this field is set to true.
Is it possible to created a constraint, to prevent the row to be updated if ARCHIVED=true ? How can i do it ?

I have a trigger that writes changes to an audit table. In the case of Updates, I only want to write out the fields that have actually changed. My code for COLUMNS_UPDATED evaluates to true for all varchar fields, even when they haven't changed. All other scenarios appear to be working correctly.
WHILE @field < @maxfield
BEGIN
SELECT @field = min(ORDINAL_POSITION) FROM INFORMATION_SCHEMA.COLUMNS
WHERE TABLE_NAME = @TableName AND ORDINAL_POSITION > @field
SELECT @bit = (@field - 1 )% 8 + 1
SELECT @bit = power(2,@bit - 1)
SELECT @char = ((@field - 1) / 8) + 1
IF ((@TriggerType = 'I') OR (@TriggerType = 'D') OR (@TriggerType = 'U' AND substring (COLUMNS_UPDATED(),@char, 1) & @bit > 0))
BEGIN..........
END
END
Ideas? Thanks!

I am using Reporting Services 2005 on SQL Express with Advanced Services...
I am dipping into the SOAP API and trying to add DataSources and Reports dynamically, as is how I would like to be able to deploy them...
My problem is this:
I have a shared datasource and a report that were deployed to the server via the 'Deploy' method in VSTS...I can access that report just fine, and it obviously uses the shared datasource...
Next, I copy the .rdl file of the report I already deployed and give it another name ("NewReport.rdl"). What I want to do is add this report to the server (it's an exact copy of the functioning report with a different report name). This report should use the same shared datasource as the other report.
Here is my code:
ReportingService2005 rs = new ReportingService2005();
rs.Credentials = System.Net.CredentialCache.DefaultCredentials;
Byte [] reportDefinition = /* read in the rdl file and create byte array out of it (didn't want to paste this code, cuz you don't care...trust me, it's correct */
ReportingTest.localhost.Warning [] warnings = rs.CreateReport("NewReport", "/ReportServerTest", true, reportDefinition, null);
foreach (ReportingTest.localhost.Warning warning in warnings)
{
Console.WriteLine(warning.Message);
}
The report is added to the server just fine, but I receive this 1 warning:
Code: "rsDataSourceReferenceNotPublished"
Message: "The data set €˜AdventureWorksTestDataSource€™ refers to the shared data source €˜AdventureWorksTestDataSource€™, which is not published on the report server."
And then when I try to view the report, I get this exception:
"The report server cannot process the report. The data source connection information has been deleted. (rsInvalidDataSourceReference)"
I know that the datasource is there, because the other report still works just fine...and I am adding an exact COPY of that report's RDL to the server, so it SHOULD work, IMO...
Any word on this?...I haven't been able to find much on this error...they say that an 'rsInvalidDataSourceReference' is usually caused when the datasource doesn't exist on the server when the report is deployed...or the datasource is deleted after the report has been deployed, but this is not true in my case...
Thanks for any feedback!!

I created a plan for a backup. This first truncates the log and after backups the data with overwrite mode and after backups the transaction log with overwrite mode.
The process is using different backup devices for the data and log backups.
The first 2 step is success (truncate and data backup) but in the last step the backup process don't overwrite the backup device. Why ?

Dear Friends,
I am having 2 Tables.
Table 1: AddressBook
Fields --> User Name, Address, CountryCode
Table 2: Country
Fields --> Country Code, Country Name
Step 1 : I have created a Cube with these two tables using SSAS.
Step 2 : I have created a report in SSRS showing Address list.
The Column in the report are User Name, Address, Country Name
But I have no idea, how to convert this Country Code to Country name.
I am generating the report using the Layout tab. ( Data | Layout | Preview ) Report1.rdl [Design]
Anyone help me to solve this issue. Because, in our project most of the transaction tables have Code and Code description in master table. I need to convert all code into corresponding description in all my reports.
Thanks in advance.

Here is my problem. There is a form where some information has to be filled out while the other does not. Information that is left blank is not inserted into the database so that I don't have millions of empty rows. This works perfectly, keeps the database accurate. When someone goes to update, if they add something new it would need to be inserted, since there is nothing to update. I was going to write a procedure, but that seems like such a waste since this will happen often. Is there an sql command in MS SQL to do this. I tried all of the sql commands from other databases I had used. (I am new to MS SQL). If there isn't one does someone have a procedure that won't create a huge amount of overhead.

I had installed SQL Server 2005 developer on my machine (Vista 64-bit) prior to installing Visual Studio 2005. When I installed VS, I used the default installation, which installed SQL Server Express. Soon thereafter, I started getting notifications in Windows Update about an update to SP2. However, when I try to install it, it fails with "Code 7367", and provides no other useful information. I tried downloading SQL Server Express SP2 myself but it would not let me update the existing instance on my machine. So I totally removed the instance from my machine through add/remove. However, I restarted and the update is still showing up and won't go away!! Does anybody have any ideas of getting this problem?

This is a very weird problem. SQL 2000. A bcp calls an SP:
bcp "exec MyDB.dbo.usp_DF_NA_Analytics_OOW" queryout SomeFile.dat -T -c -t "|" -S "MySvrMyInst"
SP code:
----------------------------
CREATE PROCEDURE dbo.usp_DF_NA_Analytics_OOW AS
BEGIN
SET NOCOUNT ON
--Declare Variables
DECLARE @CURRENTDATE DATETIME
DECLARE @BEGINTIME DATETIME
declare @feedname varchar(50)
set @feedname = 'DF_NA_Analytics_OOW'
SET @CURRENTDATE = CURRENT_TIMESTAMP
-- ensure there is a row for us - create 1 if it doesn't exist
exec usp_datafeed_timestamp_init @feedname
SET @BEGINTIME = (
SELECT LastRunTime
FROM NewAccounts.dbo.DataFeed_Timestamp
WHERE TaskName = @feedname
)
select oowReason.OOWTransaction_id,
oowReason.Position,
oowReason.ReasonCode,
oowTx.UpdateDateTime
from OOWTransaction oowTx (nolock)
join OOWReason oowReason (nolock)
on oowReason.OOWTransaction_id = oowTx.OOWTransaction_id
WHERE oowTx.UpdateDateTime >= @BEGINTIME and oowTx.UpdateDateTime < @CURRENTDATE
ORDER BY oowReason.OOWTransaction_id, Position
-- update the timestamp
exec usp_UPD @feedname, @currentdate
end
------------------------------
ALTER procedure dbo.usp_UPD (@feedname varchar(50), @lastruntime datetime)
as
begin
set nocount on
if not exists (select * from dbo.datafeed_timestamp where lower(taskname) = lower(@feedname))
INSERT INTO Datafeed_Timestamp(TaskName, LastRunTime) VALUES(@feedname, @lastruntime )
else
update Datafeed_Timestamp
set LastRunTime = @lastruntime
where TaskName = @feedname
end
----------------------------------------
The above bcp fails consistently unless the "exec usp_UPD" is completely removed.
Even if I substitute it with the update stmt instead of the SP call, it still fails.
I move the usp_UPD call and move it above the select making the select as the last command in the SP -- still fails.
Removed Order by -- still fails.
The weird thing is -- several other SPs that follow the same exact format (only select query is different) - they all succeed everytime.
This above bcp fails everytime unless the usp_UPD is fully removed.
I have tried putting the result dataset into a table variable and select it in the end -- still fails. several other attempt to workaround - fails -- by fails I mean "0 rows returned" from bcp -- when the UPD is removed, it returns the correct dataset. Otherwise always returns 0 rows.
Outside bcp, if I simply execute the SP from QA, it returns the correct dataset everytime. From bcp, it just doesn't like it. It returns 0 rows everytime, but does the UPD task -- the value does get updated adter execution.
Any thoughts/ideas? This thing is driving me NUTS
Thanks,
Rajesh

Hello,
I seem to have a strange problem in that my code runs fine, but I am trying to INSERT rows into a database, and the rows affected by the INSERT command is alwsy zero, even though no error is thrown. Hence no data gets inserted.
Here is the code:
void recordTick(string pair, DateTime time, decimal sell, decimal buy)
{
SqlConnection thisConnection = new SqlConnection("Data Source=.\SQLEXPRESS;AttachDbFilename=|DataDirectory|\FOREX.mdf;Integrated Security=True;User Instance=True");
insert = "INSERT INTO " + pair + " VALUES(" +
"'" + time.ToString("yyyy-MM-dd HH:mms") + "'," +
"'" + sell.ToString() + "'," +
"'" + buy.ToString() + "'" + ")";
thisConnection.Open();
SqlCommand command = new SqlCommand(insert, thisConnection);
Int32 success = command.ExecuteNonQuery(); // success always = 0!
thisConnection.Close();
}
The database is type .MDF that I created with the Project/Add Component/SQL Database menu. I can inspect it easily in Server Exporer and add data manually with no problem.
Can any one suggest how to get the INSERT to actually add the data?
Any help much appreciated!

SQL Server 2000, C#, ASP.NET and ADO.NET. I have searched for 3 days trying to figure out why my ADO.NET Transaction executes my stored procedures and runs the .COMMIT() on the server, figured this out by using the SQL Profiler, but the data doesn't show up in the database tables and I recieve no error from SQL or ASP.NET. What gives???? Anyone else ever heard of such a thing. Please help, before I loose my sanity.

I tried to upgrade my SQL Server 2005 Developer edition to SP2 today. What a disaster.
The install of the update fails because the installer process can't get my MSSQLSERVER instance to restart after it's done updating all the files.
Everything else in the SP2 upgrade succeeds. Now my SQL Server instance won't start. The following is what ends up in my ERRORLOG file when I try to start the Service:

Please help.

I wasn't able to figure out the vocab to search for this on usenet.I'm sure it's an easy solution, but I have no experience with SQLServer:Situation:tbl_CompanyDatais a 1735 x 20 table with a CompanyID key in the first columntbl_MergedCompanyDatais a 1735 x 20 table imported from Excel. We found it much easier toenter data into an Excel file.Problem:Keep the CompanyID field in tbl_CompanyData, but replace all the other19 rows with data from tbl_MergedCompanyData, which contains all thetbl_CompanyData PLUS new data that users filled in. At present, therows don't match up, but I suppose I could pre-sort the tables.Preferrably, any solution would be smart enough to find CompanyID N intbl_MergedCompanyData and replace the data in the fifth column intbl_CompanyData where CompanyID is N with data from the fifth columnin tbl_MergedCompanyData.Any thoughts would be appreciated. Please let me know if I canclarify my problem.Thank you,Ryan

Hi,
I am facing problem while setting connection string in Report Service project.
Problem is when I specify DNS name instead of machine name as the Server in the connection string.
When I specify DNS name in the connection string it gives error that "A connection cannot be made.Ensure that the server is running" on click of "Test Connection"
Also I am not able to view reports directly through IE. I.e. http://<DNS_NAME>/Reports.
When I access Reports, it prompts me to enter username/password. Even after specifying valid username, it shows me the prompt again n again.
Is there some known issue with Reporting Service or with IIS setting not able to connect to a DNS name? I did not face with any issue when
I specified DNS name in the connection string of Analysis Service project.
Did anyone encountered DNS related problem with SQL Server 2005 Reporting Service?
We also verified that:
1: Ping with both machine name and DNS name returns same result.
2: nslookup with both machine name and DNS name resolves to same IP.
3: Tried putting the DNS name in the hosts file.
Eagerly awaiting some positive reply.
Note: I am working with SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition.

Hi,I have an updatable DataGrid linked to a SQLDataSource in a web site developed using VS2005. Update works fine unless a value in the existing row is Null. Only one column in the database allows nulls.Putting a debug stop in the SqlDataSource1_Updating event, I checked the parameter value in the Immediate window and got the following result:?e.Command.Parameters(16){System.Data.SqlClient.SqlParameter}System.Data.SqlClient.SqlParameter: {System.Data.SqlClient.SqlParameter}DbType: Int32 {11}Direction: Input {1}IsNullable: FalseParameterName: "@original_FiresolveJobNo"Size: 0SourceColumn: ""SourceColumnNullMapping: FalseSourceVersion: Current {512}Value: NothingIs there a property I can set to generate a suitable Null check clause for the Update statement?Many Thanks,Keith.

I have an SQL statement that, when run through SQL Server management studio works fine. However, when I run it on my ASP page, it doesn’t update the data! I have tried both as a stored procedure and as a simple commandText update statement.
All I do is simly update the value of a column based on another column – nothing particularly complex: update customer set dateChanged = System.DateTime.Now.ToString("dd-MMM-yyyy"), CURRSTAT = 'Active',custType = case WHEN cust_Changing_To IS NOT NULL THEN cust_Changing_To ELSE custType END,cust_Changing_To = NULLFROM customers_v WHERE CURRSTAT = 'Changing'
As you can see, nothing that complex. The line that is causing the problem is the case:
custType = case WHEN cust_Changing_To IS NOT NULL THEN cust_Changing_To ELSE custType END
all it does is if another nullable integer column is not null, sets it to the value of that column, else it retains its existing value.
Like I say, this works in Management studio, but I cannot get it to execute programatticaly from an asp page.
No exceptions are being thrown, it just doesn’t update the data.
Any ideas?
Thanks

Hi [User]
Do you have these assets?

2) If I use the On_Update function to set the parameter values, I get "Data type mismatch in criteria expression." (Additionally, the On_Update function runs twice which I don't understand)Can anyone tell

Hi,
Using VS.NET 2008 Beta2, and SQL Server 2005.
I have a gridview bound to a linq data source, and when trying to update a row, I get an exception that no rows were modified.
The query generated is:
UPDATE [dbo].[package]
SET [owner_id] = @p5
WHERE ([package_id] = @p0) AND ([title] = @p1) AND ([directory] = @p2) AND ([owner_id] = @p3) AND ([creation_date] = @p4)
-- @p0: Input Int32 (Size = 0; Prec = 0; Scale = 0) [20006]
-- @p1: Input String (Size = 22; Prec = 0; Scale = 0) [Visual Studio.NET 2005]
-- @p2: Input String (Size = 26; Prec = 0; Scale = 0) [MSI_Visual_Studio.NET_2005]
-- @p3: Input Int32 (Size = 0; Prec = 0; Scale = 0) [10000]
-- @p4: Input DateTime (Size = 0; Prec = 0; Scale = 0) [11/07/2007 12:00:00 a.m.]
-- @p5: Input Int32 (Size = 0; Prec = 0; Scale = 0) [10001]
-- Context: SqlProvider(Sql2005) Model: AttributedMetaModel Build: 3.5.20706.1
If I run it manually on sql server, it fails until the directory column is removed. The type is varchar(50), with a uniqueness constraint. However, this is same type as the title column, which doesn't have this problem.
Thanks,
Jessica

My current proc updates(updates using joins of two or three tables) millions of records as per the condition provided for each department.
However, when the proc fails it writes to a ErrorTable, ERROR_MESSAGE(), ERROR_SEVERITY() and which department has failed.
Since the records are updated keeping the selected departments in loop, I get the department in a temp variable.
Now, I was asked to log the specific record where the failure was occured.
Something like log the identity column value or primary key value which record has failed.

Hi :)
I have a website that uses SqlExpress ...on it i have a database that was working ok ...until i made a few modifications to the database (had a few rows).
I have upload the database (only the .mdf file) to the app_data folder ...but now i get this message :
One or more files do not match the primary file of the database. If you are attempting to attach a database, retry the operation with the correct files. If this is an existing database, the file may be corrupted and should be restored from a backup.Cannot open database "ArtWork" requested by the login. The login failed.Login failed for user 'NT AUTHORITYNETWORK SERVICE'.Log file 'c:xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxApp_DataArtWork_log.LDF' does not match the primary file. It may be from a different database or the log may have been rebuilt previously.
I try to delete the .LDF file but it gives me access denied ...i cheched the permissions for the file and everything is ok
How can i solve this??
Thanks and Cheers

I have daily scheduled full backups of each database and log backups scheduled for every 2 hours. My question is should they be scheduled for overwriting or appending? I have always had them set as overwrite, but I don't know if that is correct? Any recommendations would be appreciated
