Server Startup / 100 % Cpu Utilization While Recovering Database @ Startup

Dec 7, 2000

database : MS SQL server ver 6.50.201
problem: server startup / server time out
details
SQL server shows usage of 100 % CPU utilization, if started automatically / manually. and does not proceed / hangs up(server time out), but win nt operates extremely slow.

The background of the situation in brief is as stated below.
The errorlog was found to have the messages
warning : OPEN OBJECTS parameter may be too low.
Attempt was made to free up descriptors in localdes()
Run sp_configure to increase parameter value.

Error : 644, severity : 21, state; state 1
the non clustered leaf row entry for page 2 row 1 was not found in index page 40 indexid 2 database 'tempdb'

Error : 2620 severity 21 state 3
the offset of the row number at offset 32 does not match the entry in the offset table of the follwoing page : page pointer = 0x1395800, page no= 40, status = 0x2, objectid = 1, indexid = 2

Action taken
I used the sp_option to increase the open objects from default 500 to 1000, and the LE threshold maximum value to 400 from the default 200.
after which I used reconfigure go and restarted the computer to take the effect. The following did work fine and server was working ok. But then from yesterday I am having the problem that the MS SQL sever is utilizing the cpu to 98 - 99 % and I am not able to connect to the server.
I tried to start the server with the minimal configuration by specifying the -f option in the service manager start up options, it showed the following message
00/12/07 10:40:49.73 ods Unable to connect. The maximum number of '5' configured user connections are already connected. System Administrator can configure to a higher value with sp_configure.
00/12/07 10:40:50.02 ods Unable to connect. The maximum number of '5' configured user connections are already connected. System Administrator can configure to a higher value with sp_configure.

afterwhich I tried with the option of starting the sql server with the option -c -f
which in the event detail of the win nt shows
"mesg 18109: Recovery dbid 6 ckpt(55813,8) oldest tras= (55813,0)"

The open procedure for service "MSSQLServer" in DLL "SQLCTR60.DLL" has taken longer than the established wait time to complete. The wait time in milliseconds is shown in the data.
DB-LIBRARY error - SQL Server connection timed out.

and in the errorlog present in MSSQLLOG directory

00/12/07 15:06:43.24 spid1 Recovering Database 'master'
00/12/07 15:06:43.31 spid1 Recovery dbid 1 ckpt (7944,28) oldest tran=(7944,0)

00/12/07 15:06:43.50 kernel initializing virtual device 2, D:MSSQLDATAAMLOG.DAT

The dbid is / was 6 for both the instances, the database which is having this dbid is database name "AM" and is having above 1300 tables (approx)
what could be the problem and solution for it?
kindly help me out of this situation.

SQLCMD Batch File With Script In Batch File

Dec 5, 2006

I am using the following batch file to execute a script that creates a db and all its objects in the local sql express:

sqlcmd -S (local)SQLExpress -i C:CreateDB.sql

This works fine, but I'm wondering if there's an easy way to put the script in the batch file, so users don't have to worry about putting the script in the C drive. I tried getting rid of the i parameter and pasting the script from the sql file into the batch file, but it didn't work.

Thanks,

Dave

Management Studio Express && SQLcmd: Syntax Errors In Executing A MS-DOS Batch File && A Microsoft SQL Server Query File?

Nov 2, 2007

Hi all,
I have the "Northwind" database in my Sql Server Management Studio Express.

In my C:ProSSEAppsSamplesForChapter02Chapter02 folder, I have the following 2 files:
(1) ListColumnValues (MS-DOS Batch File)
sqlcmd -S .sqlexpress -v DBName = "Northwind" CName = "CompanyName" TName =
"Shippers" -i c:prosseappschapter02ListListColumnVales.sql -o
c:prosseappschapter02ColumnValuesOut.rpt
(2) ListColumnValues (Microsoft SQL Server Query File)
USE $(Northwind)
GO
SELECT $(CompanyName) FROM $(Shippers)
GO
When I ran the following SQLcmd:
C:ProSSEAppsSamplesForChapter02Chapter02>ListColumnValues.bat
I got the following "ColumnValuesOut.rpt" with error messages:

'Northwind' scripting variable not defined.
Msg 102, Level 15, State 1, Server L1P2P3SQLEXPRESS, Line 1
Incorrect syntax near '$'.
'CompanyName' scripting variable not defined.
'Shippers' scripting variable not defined.
Msg 102, Level 15, State 1, Server L1P2P3SQLEXPRESS, Line 1
Incorrect syntax near 'CompanyName'.

I copied these T-SQL statements from a book and I do not know how to correct them.
Please help and tell me how to correct these errors.

Thanks in advance,
Scott Chang

Execute A Batch File From Within Sql Server

Jul 25, 2001

Hi, and thanks for your help. I have created a simple batch that xcopy files from one directory to another shared directory (in another server). Here is the code:
xcopy c:OUT_TRANSIT E:BACKUP_CESWEB /y

the E:BACKUP_CESWEB is in another server where I mapped the BACKP_CESWEB folder and make it shared.

the location of the batch file is in c:code .
When I double click the batch, the files are moved into E:BACKUP_CESWEB But when I use the window 2000 schedule or try to run the batch code from within sql server analyser, I get no results.

Any idea how to solve this.
The bottom line is that I want to copy files from one server to another server. Thanks for your help

Can The Tell The SQL Server Agent To Wait For A Batch File To Finish Before Proceeding?

May 29, 2008

I'm setting up a Maintenance Plan to do a backup for me in the night of my SQL Databases but before the backup starts I have created a SQL Server Agent Job that runs a DOS batch (.bat) file using CmdExec. The problem is I need this process to finish processing before the rest of the tasks run in the Maintenance Plan. It seems like SQL Server Agent Job Task tells the batch file to start running (and it runs fine) but it just continues to the next task and does not wait for it to finish.

Is there any way I can configure this to wait before proceeding?

Thanks, Mark

SQL Server 2008 :: Use Folder Name As Database From Batch File To Execute Files

Jul 17, 2015

I've been struggling with this issue,

1) Test--FolderName (This Test folder name should use as a database name for below sub folders)

a)Create--Sub Foldername
i)create.sql
b)Alter---Sub FolderName
i)Alter.sql
c)Insert---Sub FolderName
i)Insert.sql

[Code] .....

The scripts need to be run in order. So script one needs to run first folder in that sub folders after that next second folders etc..

Is there a way to create a bat file that automatically runs all these scripts, in order against, the databases they need to?

The databases that they need to run against have the name of the database at the beginning of the name of the folder.

Integration Services :: SSIS - Calling Windows Batch File Get Current Date Changed When Moved To New Server

Aug 20, 2015

We have a Job  that calls a SSIS package 2005 that does some processing and execute a BAT file.  This Job is being called by a web application. The BAT file creates a folder and named it based on the current date ( YYYY_MM) e.g 2015_07

echo %date:~10,4%_%date:~4,2%
md %date:~10,4%_%date:~4,2%
pause
exit 0

It was working okay in the SQL Agent 2005 server until we moved  to the new server SQL Agent 2012 using the same package SSIS package 2005. Now the issue is, instead of creating the folder based on YYYY_MM, it's now being created as YYYY_DD.I've checked the Regional settings of both server and they have the same "ENGLISH (United States) format. I even ran the code below and they're returning the same output echo %date:~ 10,4%_% date :~4,2%

I know the BAT file can be improved by not depending current locale in WINDOWS, but I just want to understand how this issue occurs and how does the regional setting being overridden?

Execute Batch File As Sql Job

The batch file works properly when executed directly. The job is being executed under the sql service account login. I've given the service account access to both the source and destination directories.

When I try to run the job it fails with an "Access is denied" error on both the source and destination directories (as read from job history).
