I am working with SQL Server 7.0 SP 1. Everything seemed to be running OK but from some days ago when I create a new DTS package and I save it in MS Repository, the package doesnt appear under the "Repository Package" folder even when I refresh it.
I know it is there because I can see it in the Metadata folder, but there I can not modify it. What happened? Are DTS packages secure? Should I better use local packeges and save them in SQL Server?
Hello to all members. I am using SQL Server 2005 std edition 32 bit The database is configured in compatibility mode to sql server 2000 The backup mode for the database is configured as simple
With SQL Server Agent I am running schedule task of the backup script
The question is:
I would like to save only the last 7 days in repository. This means that when the 8th days has become then the 1st day backup is deleted. in the 9th day the 2nd day backup file is deleted. and so on
I am using the the T-SQL BACKUP DATABASE command with the following arguments: RETAINDAYS = 7 NOFORMAT NOINIT SKIP
I am in situation that the command above only append to the backup file and without deleting the expired backup days.
What I need to change in the parameters that the script will delete the expired backup days.

It is too much work when working with Database Maintenance Wizard. lets take a scenario that I have 10 database. I would like that each database will backup into seperate file. I need to create 10 * 7 Maintenance plans.
I have created a directory with the name SDBbackup. Now under the directory SDBbackup I have created 7 directories (1,2,3,4,5,6,7). Each directory is for Sunday=1 , Monday=2 , and etc.
It's very much work if I need to accomplish it with Database Maintenance Wizard.
This is why I am asking a specific question regarding T-SQL.
I have several Repository DTS packages on my server, but these are not available on all client machines. I have no problems working on these packages from my workstation, or some of my coworkers, but others cannot even see the packages. In fact, when logged onto the server itself, the packages don't show up!!
I am looking for some advice regarding saving custom component data when saving packages.
For custom "properties", this is not an issue, as saving the package will save these properties. Howver, I also have information for each column (besides the properties that columns provides, like Name and DataType) that I need to save if a package were to be saved, and right now it does not save because I am using my own objects to store the data.
I am wondering as to how I can save this information. I have looked up on serialization, but I would like to know if there is another way besides serialization to save this inforamtion as I'd rather not save this to a seperate file.
When I work with large dtsx files I have problem with saving them in Business Inteligence Studio. This problems arise when dtsx files is has size more than 7-8 MB. Any hint about it?
I am trying to automate a basic task using SQL Server 2005 Express.
Currently I have a query script that I run and then save the results as a CSV file. I need to do this on a daily basis and so I am looking to find out how best to go about this. There are a multitude of third party tools that claim to be able to do this - can anyone recommend this or enlighten me of the best way to set up this automation.
The DTS packages I saved in Repository is found disappeared But when I tried to save a new one with old package name I got an error message that its already there. What should I do in order to veiw all the stored packages in the repository ? Thank You all
I've installed OLAP, SP1 & 2. But when I try to register that OLAP server from my machine using the OLAP Manager interface, I get the error: 'Cannot retrieve the repository information..'. Any ideas?
I'm trying to create a Data Dictionary view from system table info like tablename, fieldname, datatype etc. I can find all that I need except for the "description" field which is displayed in Enterprise Manager/ Repository metadata pane.
How can I locate this field so I can reference it in a view? Isn't it stored in a system table? Master, model? Where is it?
I am trying to migrate the default repository that is created when you install OLAP on a server. I have done this on my local server and several other servers without a problem. When I goes through the steps to migrate the repository it says it completes sucessfully but leave the repository pointing at the mdb file. On the other servers it has updated the pointer to the SQL database. I am running SQL2000 SP2, AS SP2 and W2000. The only difference I can find it that the server where it doesn't work also has two named instances on it. Any help would be appreciated.
We configured IDERA SQL Safe for backups and restores.we setup an email for notifications. One day we performed manual backup operation for 150 databases from SQL Safe tool. Unnoticed it backed up to C:Backup folder.
We got alerts with the report of backups on C: drive. Then we moved backup files to respective folders. But, I could not clear the records from the report, its been 25 days, still we are receiving the alerts as below. How can I clear this report or to configure or setup anything to avoid this, in future as well.
Below is the sample records from the report. I need this report to be cleared.

I've run into a problem with SSIS packages wherein tasks that write or copy files, or create or delete directories, quit execution without any hint of an error nor a failure message, when called from an ASP.NET 2.0 application running on any other machine than the one where the package was created from. By all indications it appeared to be an identity/permissions problem.
Our application involves a separate web server and database server. Both have SQL Server 2005 installed, but the application server originally only had Integration services. The packages are file system-deployed on the application server, and are called using Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Runtime methods. For all packages that involve file system tasks, the above problem occurs.
When the above packages are run using the command prompt (either DTEXEC or DTEXECUI) the packages execute just fine. This is expected since we are using an administrative account. However when a ShellExecute of the same command is called from ASP.NET, the same problem occurs.
I've tried giving administrative permissions to the ASPNET worker process user to no avail.
I have likewise attempted to use the SQL Server Agent job approach but that approach might not be acceptable for our clients since it means installing SQL Server 2005 Database services on the application server.
I have read the relevant threads in this forum, namely http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=1044739&SiteID=1 and http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=927084&SiteID=1 but failed to find any solution appropriate for our set up.
We manage some SSIS servers, which has only SSIS and SSIS tools installed on them and not the sql server DB.
SSIS packages and configuration files are deployed on a NAS. We run the SSIS packages through DTEXEC by logging in to the server.
We want to allow developers to run their packages on their own on the server, but at the same time we dont want to give them physical access on the server i.e we do not want to add them into RDP users list on server properties. We want them to allow running their packages remotely on the server.
One way We could think of is by using powershell remoting and we are working on that. But is there any other way or any tool already present for the same.
Please i need to save records using DataSet. I created the connectionstring as a global variable. I am currently migrating my application from Access to SQL. It looks like it's working good but one thing I cannot understand is why when I have created a varchar(40) field and after I insert a field that is less then 40 characters long, the rest of the string is filled with the leading spaces. I have also create an nchar(40) that did not solve it ether. For example: the text is "Hello World". The text is 11 characters long but the data saved to the table is: "Hello Wolrd" + 29 spaces. Am I doing something wrong? Thanks for your help in advance.
When I open a DTS package, save it as a bas file, make changes, close the package and save it when prompted, where are my changes saved?
The answer appears to be nowhere. When I reopen the package it's back to it's original setup. When I check the bas file it's as it was when I originally saved it.
We have a table with 3.5 million records in it. We have been forced to add two fields and set indexes on those fields. But when we try to save the changes it times out. When we try to generate a change script it also times out. Is this a memeory issue? Any ideas on whats causing this or how to fix it woudl be greatly appriciated.
Hi, all. This might be a silly question... but I am very new to programming inSQL so please bear with me :)So. I'm using MS SQL Server 2005 Management Studio Express. I have atable that was created via an existing .sql file. Included were abunch of stored procedures. I went in to re-format these procedures.(They were written in haste by another programmer. It is my task to goback and improve their readabilities.) However, I am having difficultyfiguring out how to save the changes to these stored procedures. Thusfar, I have been individually saving each stored procedure in itsown .sql file. This is obviously not the way to go... but it's atemporary solution (so as not to lose the changes I have made todozens of procedures). Can someone please explain to me how I commit these changes to thedatabase? Thanks,Allie
Using vb 2005 express I have my grid veiw on the form and a icon to click to save my work.
But is there a passage of code I can write to pop up a message box to remind me to save my work when I close my form. Similar to ms office forms when you close they ask you if you want to save any changes.
Is it better to have users that upload pictures have them saved to SQL server or to a folder? I have a site where users enter things that they own (and each item has a unique id) and now I would like to add the functionality to add a picture. I am sure I should use the fileUpload control, but should this save to a folder created for each user or to the SQL record itself? Or possibly a separate SQL table just for pictures? Thanks for the help.

Hello Im having a little problem getting some values from a database..... What I need is to get the value of the keyfield of the last entry introduced, I know how to to do the SQL statement for this, the problem is that i dont know how to save this value in a variable. I need to save this value in a variable in the session object or in a hidden field, and then use this variable in another different page. That's way i need to save this ID value, later in the other page I introduce data in a different table and one of the fields has to be this ID value which I have as a foreign key in the table so I need to use the same value in all the rows i introduce(Id value). If you know how to accomplish this let me know, many thanks, Sergio
In my system, I generate invoices as PDF for my clients and I need to email them and save them on the database. What is the best approach for achieving that?!
Shall I save the files path in the SQL server 2000 as ( varchar ) and save files in a folder in the server or there is another approach?! is there any recommendation or advice about the procedure to send emails shall i save them first then send them or ...!??
