I want to run two package in sequence. If the execution of one gets over then other should start.
I have configured the execution detail in BAT file.
I know how to schedule the task. But can anyone please suggest me how to schedule the task in sqeuence i.e. execution of BAT file in sequenece (one after other).
Schedule Task Not Stopping
Jan 16, 2001I've been running SQL Server for 5 years now and have not seen the following.
We have a scheduled night run task where we do various maintenance functions as well as print out the issued insurance policies for the day. All indications are that the run completed except that I did not get an email notification of success or failure.
When I went to enterprise manager, under jobs the night run seems to be stuck in the mode of "Performing completion actions". I cannot get it our of this mode back to "Not running". Trying to stop the task has no effect.
Any ideas/suggestions??

Schedule Task Problem
Jan 15, 1999Hi All, I am using SQL Server 6.5 for our database server. We will run couple schedule tasks in the SQL Server everyday.
One of the task that will call a BATCH file in C:. In this batch file, it will copy some files, and zip then. Then It iwll launch
the Internet Explorer, and run a ASP program. In the ASP program, it will send out a E-Mail and then close the browser. It
works fine until this Monday. The "Schedule Task" runs on time, and do the "copy" & "zip". But it will not launch the IE,
stuck on there. I check the IE that is launched but it runs in the background. The ASP program is not running too. I used the
"notepad" instead of the IE. The result is that the batch file runs, and the "Schedule Task" will finish. But the "notepad" didn't launch.
If I just "double click" the batch file, it runs fine. So the problem is between the SQL server "Schedule Task" and the WINDOWS NT, I guess.
Has any one has a clue, please tell me. Thanks.
Schedule Task Failure In SQL 6.5
Mar 12, 2001I am having a problem with the scheduled task I am running. There had been an error message 5702 which says "The SQL Server is terminating this process". I don't understand what this means. And if I try to force the job to run, it says that the SQLExecutive service is not running on the particular server. And this prevents the task from being run. But when I try to check for the said service, it is running. I don't know what is happening here. Please help me.

and this procedure gets out of the loop.
the task get started running.
Is there any way in Sql server that the same stored procedures should wait until the Task finishes and return a code either 1 or 0 for success or faliure of the task.

Database Design For Schedule Task

I am trying to copy what is happing in "Schedule Task" on Windows and put into database design below. It's a denormalisation though.
What is the better way to handle this schenario such as DAILY, WEEKLY AND MONTHLY TASK? I did try put into normalisation by adding extra table called ScheduleDetail which holds DAYS and MONTHLY but it's more complicated.
Anyway .. I am waiting your comment or anything.

Encrypt/hide Paasword In Task Schedule Under EM?

I am running an application on mssql 6.5, sp 4 on NT 4.0.
We routinely chnage paswords for the sa login. One loophole for users to
learn the sa password is in scheduler tasks underr EM when a task is
added to run under cmdexec, the password is written in text under the -P
paramater.
1) Is there any way to encrypt the password there or does any one have a
stored procedure or function to do s?
1) Which executible, if any, runs the scheduled tasks under EM? Is this
part of EM or is there any specific executible that runs the scheduled
tasks?
Any information oyu can provide or suggestions you cna make will be
appreciated.

I have a dataflow which returns email addresses to a recordset.
I pass this recordset into a ForEachLoop configuring the enumerator as (Foreach ADO Enumerator). I also map the email address as a variable with index 0.
I then have a Execute SQL task which receives this email address as a varchar variable (parameter 0) which I then use in my SQL command to limit the rows returned. I have commented out the where clause and returned all rows regardless of email address to try to troubleshoot this problem. In either event, I then use a resultset to store the query result of type object and result name 0.
I then pass this resultset into a script variable to start parsing the sql rows returned as type object. ( I assume this is the correct way to do this from other prior posts ...).
The script appears to throw an exception at the following line. I assume it's because I'm either not passing in the values properly or the query doesn't return anything. However, I am certain the query works as it executes just fine at the command prompt.

My intent is to email the query results to each email address with the following type of data by passing the parsed data from the script to a send mail task. Email works fine and sends out messages but the content is empty. I pass the parsed data as string values to the messagesource and define the messagesourcetype as a variable in the mail task.

Integration Services :: Stored Procedure In Execute Task Fails But Task Does Not Fail
Jul 1, 2015I'm using SSIS in Visual Studio 2012. My Execute SQL Task calls a Stored Procedure where I have a TRY-CATCH. Last week there was a problem and the CATCH was executed and logged an error to my error table, but for some reason the Execute SQL Task didn't fail. Is there a setting to make the Execute SQL Task fail when an SP encounters a failure?

Hi,
I am trying to create a simple BI Application for SSIS. In Visual Studio 2005 I just get a Data Flow Task from the toolbar and add it to the project. When I double click it I get the following error:
The task with the name "Data Flow Task" and the creation name "DTS.Pipeline.1" is not registered for use on this computer.
Then when I try to delete it it gives this other error:
Cannot remove the specified item because it was not found in the specified Collection.
I am creating this application in an administrator account in this computer, so I doubt the problem is related to permissions. I am running SQL Server 2005 and Visual Studio 2005 in WinXP Tablet PC Edition.
Any suggestions why this is happening and how to fix it?
SSIS Task Transfer SQL Server Objects Task And Default Constraints On Tables

I am using the "Transfer SQL Server Objects Task" to copy some tables from database A to database B including data.
The tables, primary key constraints, Foreign key, data and all transfers nicely except for "DEFAULT CONSTRAINTS" on the tables.
I have failed to find any option in the "Transfer SQL Server Objects Task" task to explicitly say "copy default constraints". So I guess logically it should happen automatically but it doesn't. I hope it is not a bug :-)
Any option anyone knows will help.

Compare Performance (Execute SQL Task Insert And Data Flow Task)

I am using SQL 2005 SSIS. I am joining several large tables and then the move result into another table in the same database.
I would like know which method is faster:
Use Execute SQL Task to insert the result set to the target table
Use the Data Flow Task to insert the result set to the target table. (Use OLE DB source to execute SQL command and then use the SQL destination)
Could you tell me why then other is slower?

Feb 1, 2007In short, does the €œTransfer SQL Server Objects Task€? support distributed transactions?
In trying to use a €œTransfer SQL Server Objects Task€? in a container using a transaction on the container. The task is set to support the transaction. It is setup to copy table data from several tables from a non-domain server (sql server 2000) to a domain-based server (sql server 2005). I get an error stating, €œThis task can not participate in a transaction€?.
I am wondering if it means exactly what it says €“ this task in SSIS can€™t participate at all. Or does it mean that it won€™t in this scenario for some reason. I attempted a simple copy of data from mssql 2005 to mssql 2005 (same server) and the task still failed). MSDTC appears to be running properly on my machine and such (I can do a simple distributed transaction across linked server to the 2000 server in Query Analyzer (QA)). Also, MSDTC appears to be working on both servers with distributed transaction query tests in QA.

Schedule An EXE Job
Jun 21, 2001When I try to schedule a DTS package which is an EXE it doesn't run.
If I just run the DTS package it works fine.
I have checked the permissions of the DTS scheduled package and made sure
it had proper rights. SQL Server Services were started with the proper security rights.
When I schedule the DTS package, it is being done on the Server, and not a workstation.
Any ideas on why it will not run?...
Also, How do you schedule and EXE under SQL Server Agent Jobs.
Even when I schedule an EXE that is not a DTS package it doesn't run...

Nov 1, 2007Im trying to schedule a DTS package that I have created. When I right click on the package in Enterprise Manager and click on "Schedule" I get the options to set up the job to run on a schedule.
I fill out the time and click "OK". But when I immediately right click on the package again, all my settings are gone, and the defaults are back in place.
How do I know if the package will run- or if it did run?
I would actually prefer to run the job from a command line using a Scheduled Task... What would the syntax be? My DTS Local Package is named "IMPORT_DAILY_UPDATE"
