Scheduled Backup

Mar 1, 2002

Hi,
I am trying to do an automatic backup of my database and for some reason it does not do it.
I have it set to backup daily at 4:00 pm.
Please let me know if you know why it is not backing up on it's own.
The Server manager is on always and a manual backup is not a problem for me,
only the automatic.
Thanks very much.

Scheduled Job To Backup A Table

Jul 1, 2001

Hi,
I am trying to schedule a job that will backup a table in my database, based on the name which has TABLENAME_mm_yyy that is 3 months old, then delete the table. Basically it is for archiving purposes, with the backup to be held on NT backup for another 12 months, just in case. Can anyone give me sugestions on how to do this - maybe alternatives?
Each monthly table has approx 4 million rows, that are rarely looked at. With other databases competing for space/resources, the thought was to remove these old tables monthly, with the ability to 'restore' them easily if/when required.
Any help or suggestions would be very much appreciated.

Scheduled Backup Silently Fails

Jul 20, 2005

I am running a SQL Server 2000 installation with several databases. Eachdatabase and log is backed-up using a maintenance plan.The scheduled maintance plan for the latest database does not run, butdisplays no error. There is no entry in the job history. The same thinghappens when I try to run the individual jobs from Enterprise Manager.I've checked the database recovery model (full), the location of the backupfiles (same as the other databases), and just about everything else I canthink of. The scheduled maintenance plan for every other database runs asit should.What am I missing?ThanksIain

Create New Scheduled Job Which Runs A Dts Package

Nov 28, 2007

Hello Experts,

I found some similar threads and guides but they didn€™t help me with my special problem.

I converted a dts package (built in SQL 2000) to SQL 2005. Right now it€™s a legacy package.
(I tried the Tool Microsoft SQL Server 2000 DTS Designer Components to open the package. It€™s going well)

I would like to build a scheduled job which runs this dts package.
In SQL 2000 you can right click on the package and create the job.
SQL created string like this:
Dtsrun ASDFHJKSF56A4DFSLAKDHFJKS65646ASDFHSF (very long sting, it€™s the ID of the dts package)

How can I make something like this in SQL 2005?
Where I can get the ID of a dts package from?

Best Regards,
Alex

p.s.
- I red the thread from Jamie Thomason and will directly mark as answer after I get a answer
- of cource I will delete my thread too if I overlooked a thread with the same issue

How To Create A Scheduled Job On SQL Server 2005 Using T-SQL?

Nov 8, 2007

Hi Guys,

Any assistance you people can provide will be considered grateful. I€™m in search of a generic cookie cutter snippet of code that simulates the creation of an Oracle DBMS_JOB, but I need it for SQL Server 2005.

Beneath, highlighted in red, is how we create a DBMS_JOB in Oracle, but I need the snippet of code to accomplish the same objective on SQL Server 2005. In Oracle, we deploy our scheduled jobs using anonymous pl/sql which is written in black, as shown beneath. To facilitate conversion of our project scheduled task it would be great if someone can assist me in translating the code beneath written in black and red.

REM spool schedule-jobs_a.sql.log
REM declare
REM jobno NUMBER;
REM cursor job_cur is select job from user_jobs
REM where what like 'dbms_utility.analyze_schema%';
REM begin
REM
REM for job_rec in job_cur loop
REM dbms_job.remove(job_rec.job);
REM
REM end loop;
REM dbms_job.submit(jobno,what => 'dbms_utility.analyze_schema(''&&anal'',''compute'');', interval => 'TO_DATE(SUBSTR(TO_CHAR(TRUNC(SYSDATE+1)),1,10)) + 360/1440', next_date => SYSDATE);
REM dbms_output.put_line( 'Next job '||jobno );
REM exception
REM when others then raise;
REM end;
REM /

PS, I€™m not looking for instructions to create a Scheduled Job through Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio, but rather, I need T-SQL code to create a Schedule Job to run daily at some period of time and run some snippet of code.

Thanks,
Vikram

Employee_CodeEarned_Leave_Balance

The leave balance should be updated automatically on a daily basis using a formula. I understand this can be done using stored scheduled procedures. To give you a full and clear picture, this is what I need:

IF [Employee_Code] LIKE 'KUW%'
[Earned_Leave_Balance] = (Today - [Employment_Date]) * (42 / 365)
ELSE
[Earned_Leave_Balance] = (31/12/CurrentYear - [Employment_Date]) * (30 / 335)

Create Backup File

Apr 10, 2008

Hi,

I am trying to create a script that will create a backup (or copy) of an sdf database.

I have a database already in my application working nicely and want the user to have the option to backup that file so if anything goes wrong they will be able to click a button and it will restore all the data to the database. I am not sure which options are best for me. there are 3 main ones i have considered, these are:

1) Create a text file with all the data in it.
2) Create a HTML file with the data in it.
3) Create an xml file with the data in it.

Help would be appreciated. Thanks =]

Shrink DB And Create Backup Thru VB.NET Code

Jun 14, 2006

Hi,

Is it possible to shrink a DB thru .NET.

Presently I have to go into the SQL server 2005 studio to shrink the DB.

To shrik the DB I right click on the DB and select all tasks -> Shrink -> DB

How would I do this thru SQL codse?

I would like to do it thru my VB.NET code as you would compact an ACCESS DB.

The reason I want to set it thru my code is :

The clients that use my program have no clue of

SQL or for that matter computer itself.

I just want them to click on a button on my application which should

do the shrinking.

Similarly for backup of the DB.

Tnx

SQL 2012 :: Create A Database From Backup File

Dec 11, 2014

I know this is easy but I am having trouble creating a database from a backup file.

I created a database (Test).

Then I selected 'Test', went to Tasks and selected 'Restore Database'.

I selected 'Device' browsed to the backup file.

I choose the destination database to be 'Test'.

There is no backup sets listed to restore. The 'OK' button is disabled.

How do you get the backup list to display? This is a new database. I don't need a backup.

Create Restore Command From DB Backup File

Sep 7, 2006

This script will read the contents of a DB backup file, and generate a restore command.

Set the value of parameter @backup_path to point to the backup file, run in Query Analyzer, cut/paste the output into another Query Analyzer window, modify as necessary, and run.

This is just a barebones script to demo how this can be done. Modify as necessary to meet your own needs.

Works in SQL 2000 and 7.0. May work in SQL 2005, but it is not tested.

BACKUP LOG Cannot Be Performed Because There Is No Current Database Backup. BACKUP LOG Is Terminating Abnormally.

Jan 31, 2008

Hi there

I'm getting this message on my third automated backup of the transaction logs of the day. Both databases are in full recovery mode, both successfully backed up at 01.00. The transaction logs backed up perfectly happily at 01:30 and 05:30, but failed at 09:30.

The only difference between 05:30 and 09:30's backups is that the log files were shrunk at 08:15 (the databases in question are the ones that sit under ILM2007, and keeping the log files small keeps the system running better).

Is it possible that shrinking the log files causes the database to think that there hasn't been a full database backup?

Thanks

Jane

SQL Server 2008 :: Backup Running Long And Backup Threads Show Suspended

I checked the SQL Server activity log and saw a hung query (user was not even logged on) that had multiple threads so I killed it and now the CPU utilization is back to normal.

Trouble is, now all of the threads in the activity monitor for the backup show 'suspended' and the backup appears to be not doing anything.
