I need to build a generic text search component for MS SQL server 7.0. It is basically one of those Database searches that appear on web sites. Is there any stored procedure or service that MS SQL server provides for text based search on a database. Mind u my requirement is not to search a table but aan entire database....
anyone done this before.....

I'd like to add "fuzzy search" functionality to my application.
"Fuzzy search" in this topic means selecting (from DB table) rows, which have "fuzzy search" coefficient (calculated using etalon string) not less some_predefined_const. Fuzzy search coefficient calculating algorithm can be various.
So with etalon string "Margaret" "fuzzy search" can find "Nargaret", "Margoret", "Margret" etc.
IMHO time to develop, test and tune code must be quite long. I prefer to buy such "fuzzy search" component.
Does anybody know where can I get such component - server version (SQL 2005) or client version (.NET)?
How much can such component cost?

I have a package that has a data lfow task. this task imports data from a db2 database (using the IBM Ole DB provider fro db2) and adds it to sql server database table. This package was created on the server. then though version control (using TFS source control) I check out the package on my local machine. and when I open the package I get the foll 3 errors.
Error 1 Validation error. Import Account Num from BMGP_BDR: DTS.Pipeline: The component metadata for "component "DataReader Source" (1113)" could not be upgraded to the newer version of the component. The PerformUpgrade method failed.
Error 2 Error loading BMAG Download Xref Tables - bmag.dtsx: Microsoft.SqlServer.Dts.Pipeline.ComponentVersionMismatchException: The version of component "DataReader Source" (1113) is not compatible with this version of the DataFlow. [[The version or pipeline version or both for the specified component is higher than the current version. I have a package which reads an Access file from a folder. My connection manager to this file is .NET providers for OledbMicrosoft Jet 4.0 OLE DB Provider.
Package works from my computer. But when I execute it on the server as a SQL Agent job, I get

I copied the mdb file to a folder on the server which my packages have no problem reading data from.
My packages run under the same domain account as defined in proxies.

I have a scenario of where the standard Full-Text search identifies keywords but Semantic Search does not recognize them as keywords. I'm hoping to understand why Semantic Search might not recognize them. The context this is being used in medical terminology and the specific key words I noticed missing right off the bat were medications.
For instance, if I put the following string into a FT indexed table
'J9355 - Trastuzumab (Herceptin)'
AND
'J9355 - Trastuzumab emtansine'
The Semantic Search recognized 'Herceptin' and 'Emtansine' but not 'Trastuzumab'
Nor in
'J8999 - Everolimus (Afinitor)'
It did not recognize 'Afinitor' as a keyword.
In all cases the Base of Full-Text did find those keywords and were identifiable using the dmvsys.dm_fts_index_keywords_by_document.It does show the index as having completed.
why certain words might not be picked up while others would be? Could it be a language/dictionary issue? I am using English and accent insensitive settings?
would you use sql server "full text search" feature as your site index? from some reason i can't make index server my site search catalog, and i wonder if the full text is the solution. i think that i wll have to you create new table called some thing like "site text" and i will need to write every text twice- one the the table (let's say "articles table") and one to the text. other wise- there is problems finding the right urlof the text, searching different tables with different columns name and so on...
so i thought create site search table, with the columns:
id, text, url
and to write every thing to this table.
but some how ot look the wrong way, that every forum post, every article, album picture or joke will insert twice to the sqr server...
what do you think?

I don't get the correct result at all.
If I change my search_clause to "hepatitis" and "hepatocellular carcinoma -- without the "b"
then i get the correct result.
It seems MS Search doesn't like the phrase contain one letter or some sort or is it a know bug?

In a Data Flow, I have the necessity to use a SSIS variable of type €œObject€? inside Script Component and assign to it the content of 'n' variables of string type.
On exiting from the script the variable of type object should contain something like in the following lines:

I'm into a project which uses a lot of views for joining 2 or more tables. Using the MERGE component in SSIS will be a huge effort coz it only has 2 inputs and I gotta SORT the input too.
Isnt it possible to have a VIEW like component that joins more than 2 tables and DOESNT need sorting??
(I've thought about creating views in database engine but it breaks my data floe in SSIS and is'nt a practical solution)
I am writing a custom dataflow transformation component and I need to get the name of the preceeding component.
I have been trying to find a way to get a reference to the Package object, MainPipe object or IDTSPath90 object (connecting to the IDTSInput90 of my component) from my component because I think from there I can get to the information I want.
Does anyone have any suggestions?

No idea where this bug crept in from. Have been using SSIS for 1.5 years now without hitting this problem.
I had a script component opening an XML document and parsing it using XPATH. I added some code that uses StreamReader / Streamwriter (closing one stream before starting the other). The code works without issue in my C# app.
And it ran without issue 2-3 times in SSIS. Then suddenly after running my package again, the script component says it completes successfully, yet nothing happens. I set a breakpoint on the first line of code - it never hits it. I add a msgbox as the first line of code - and it never displays.
I then close my package / exit out of ssis ... and then re-open it. When i open my script component, all of my code is GONE. All references that I added are gone.
I tried adding the streamreader/writer process to a dll I created from my c# app ... and added the DLL to the package -- same result.
I can reproduce this on 2 different computers.
Anyone experience this problem ? Any idea how to stop it ? Or debug it ?

I would be very grateful if anyone could help me out with writing a stored procedure. Problem: I have two tables with three columns indexed for full-text search. So far I have been able to successfully execute the following query returning matching row ids: dbo.Search_Articles @searchText varchar(150) AS SELECT ArticleID FROM articles WHERE CONTAINS(Description, @searchText) OR CONTAINS(Title, @searchText) UNION SELECT ArticleID FROM article_pages WHERE CONTAINS(Text, @searchText); RETURN This returns the ArticleID for any articles or article_pages records where there is a text match. I ultimately need the stored procedure to return all columns from the articles table for matches and not just the StoryID. Seems like maybe I should try using some kind of JOIN on the result of the UNION above and the articles table? But I have so far been unable to figure out how to do this as I can't seem to declare a name for the result table of the UNION above. Perhaps there is another more eloquent solution? Thanks! Peter
View 3 Replies View RelatedOur clients want to be able to do full text search with a single letter. (Is the name Newton, Nathan, Nick?, Is the ID N1, N2...). Doing a single character full text search on a table work 25 out of 26 times. The letter that doesn't work is 'n'. the WHERE clause CONTAINS(full_text_field, ' "n*" ') returns all rows, even rows that have no 'n' in them anywhere. Adding a second letter after the "n" works as expected.

I have installed the Adobe iFilter 11 64 bit and set the path to the bin folder. I still cannot find any text from the pdf files. I suspect I am missing something trivial because I don't find much when I Bing for this so it must not be a common problem.Here is the code.

So, I have a Pivot component working just fine on our Dev server. You can put a datareader before and after it, and as expected, 2092 rows go in, 1890 rows come out, and they're pivoted just fine.
I deploy the package to our Live box, and it doesn't pivot the incoming dataset at all. The rows are just being passed straight through - it's as if the Pivot component is doing nothing. Put a datareader on, you can see 2092 in, 2092 out.
I know it's not the data - I reconfigured the connection manager to point to the dev dB, so it's using exactly the same source data set, and it still passes the rows straight through.
But here's the really wierd bit. If I modify the data source to just select 2 rows from the data source (which I know need pivoting on the pivot key), the component pivots them just fine. So I can see that technically, the component has been built correctly. It does what it is meant to do if I send through 2 rows, 4 rows, 8 rows. But when I send through 2092, it just passes them straight through.

I haven't a clue which section to post this question in, so if it's in the wrong place i appologise.
My question is about Microsoft SQL server and Geospatial. I heard rumors about Microsoft added a Geospatial componet to sql server years ago in order to compete with Oracle. I have not hear anything more about this functionality and now our organzation is looking at going to Oracle because of our need for a Geospatial database. Ideally we would like to continue to use Microsoft products but we have not heard of anything that will meet our needs in this area.
Is there anything available right now?

I have a table that contains words that will be used to search another table where FullText index has been created on searchable columns. I'm basically trying to run something like this:
SELECT t1.col1, t2.col3
FROM tbl1 t1, tbl2 t2
WHERE CONTAINS (t1.col1, t2.col1)
I know this won't work but is there a way to join these two tables so the words (t2.col1) can be passed as search conditions? There is no common key on both tables so normal join won't work. I'm trying to find a way to pass the search words from one table to another.

I enabled it for Full Text search. Substring search where i enter *word* doesn't return any row.
I have a table testtable where description has word Extinguisher.
If i run a query with *ting* it doesn't return any row.
select * from testtable where contains(description,'"*xting*"') ;
But it works if i do
select * from testtable where contains(description,'"Exting*"') ;
The Full text search document says it supports substring search.
Is it an issue with sql server 2005?Please help.
I am using Sql Server 2014 Express edition.I have a table with a varchar(max) column. I have created a full text search that use the stoplist "system". column has this struct: xxx.yyy.zzz.... where xxx, yyy, zzz... are numbers, like 123.345.123123.366456...I can have rows like that:

I am trying this query:

I gues the contains would return all the rows with column contains 123.345, but this does not return all the expected rows, only one row.I have tried to replace "." with "-" but the result is the same.I have also tried with '123.345.*. In this case I have got more results, but no all the exptected rows.If I use this query:
select * from MyTable where
MyCOlumn like '123.345.%';
Does any one know of any good components I can buy in to sit on top of my SQL Server to provide the kind of search functionality that google has - 'Did you mean...,' nearset match etc. I have set up SQL Server Full Text but to build all the extra functionality will take some time and I think it will be more cost effective to buy a component in. (4) install update package of SQL2000.AS-KB884525-SP4-x86-ENU.exe
After that, I would like to add replication in the property page. But it failed and I was informed that €œI should cancel the registration of this SQL 2000 instance since it is a virtual instance such as . or local. I should register a real instance with local machine€™s name€?. What€™s wrong with it?

(1)I install SQL server 2000 in virtual PC with XP/SP2.
(2) IIS is not installed on the virtual machine.
Can anyone tell me how to search an SQL database for a given key word in a textbox? I basically have a database that has a qualifications column and this column needs to be searched for the data given in the textbox. Which is the best method to search for the data? Is it a simple SQL query or an XML based search engine type? Can anyone give any suggestions regarding this? If XML is efficient then how do I use it to query my database, as I'm pretty new in XML based searching.Thanks

My site uses a text box to allow visitors to search products. I'm trying to design the SQL Statement to allow search's on full words, part words, and words/phrases regardless of the order the words are in.

i got this error msg when installing 2005 SQL Server components only on my system:
SQL Server Setup cannot continue because an earlier version of Office Web Components is installed on this computer. Uninstall Office Web Components, and then run installation again.
i could not find any info on this error. any ideas?

I have problem connecting to a SQL 2000 server that is hosted on a Windows 2003 server. My application uses classic ASP with VB6 components. VB6 components connect to SQL server and return data to ASP application. Everything was working fine when the application and SQL server was hosted on NT machine. Recently we have shifted to Windows 2003 server. Since then we could not establish connection to SQL2000.
I'm using UDL as connection string.
IIS and SQL2000 hosted on the same machine with Windows 2003 OS.
This seems to be a security issue. Earlier I faced this issue for a .net application which I resloved adding a domain account to both SQL server and IIS directory security.
Request your input to solve this problem.
