I'm using the .NET Framework 1.1 together with SQL Server 2005 Beta.
I have a search page where you can search a db using a number of fields or combination thereof. Three are text fields (patient id, surname, forename) and I can do any search using one criteria or any combination without any problem.
However, I'd also like to search on a dob (datetime field in SQL Server) and I'm having real problems in making this work. The dates are stored in the following way in SQL Server: '1938-05-31 00:00:00.000', whilst they are displayed as 'dd/mm/yyyy' on a web page, which I guess corresponds to my regional settings.
My code is shown below. I 've tried any number of combinations for the dob string with no success. I do not get any error, just no records are returned.
Does anyone have any idea what I'm doing wrong and how to correct it before this drives me crazy?!
TIA for any help.
P.S. chxPatID, chxSurname etc are all checkboxes.
<code starts>
If chxPatID.Checked Then
strSQL = strSQL & " patid= '" & txtPatID.Text & "' "
strAND = " AND "
End If
If chxSurname.Checked Then
strSQL = strSQL & strAND & " surname ='" & txtSurname.Text & "' "
strAND = " AND "
End If
If chxForename.Checked Then
strSQL = strSQL & strAND & " forename='" & txtForename.Text & "' "
strAND = " AND "
End If
If chxDoB.Checked Then
strSQL = strSQL & strAND & " dob= " & CDate(Year(txtDoB.Text) & "-" & Month(txtDoB.Text) & "-" & Day(txtDoB.Text)) & ""
End If
</code ends>

Ok, so I have a Select statement that looks like this:
Select * from FilteredOpportunity
where (OpportunityID LIKE @opportunityid)
and (Name LIKE @name)
and (CustomerIDName LIKE @customeridname)
and isNull(EstimatedCloseDate, '1900-01-01') LIKE @estimatedclosedate
and isNull(Description, '') LIKE @description
and isNull(AccountIdName, '') LIKE @AccountIDName
and isNull(ACCU_OppTypeName, '') LIKE @ACCU_OppTypeName
and isNull(SalesStageCodeName, '') LIKE @SalesStageCodeName
and isNull(ACCU_CustomerTypeName, '') LIKE @ACCU_CustomerTypeName
and (CreatedByName LIKE @CreatedByName)
and (CreatedOn LIKE @CreatedOn)
and isNull(ACCU_OppSourceName, '') LIKE @ACCU_OppSourceName
and (StateCodeName LIKE @StateCodeName)
and (StatusCodeName LIKE @StatusCodeName)
This chunk of code is used in an XML file which, once this XML is imported (using sharepoint by the way if you haven't noticed), I can then search through tables with different filters. Well, my date filter isn't working the same way as my other ones. I have a couple different date filters, but none of them work.
Before I ask my question, I only pass in one variable at a time through my code.... the rest of the variables get a default value passed to them if the user doesn't pass it. That value is simply '%'. Anyways, so the different ways a user can type in a date is by typing in the whole date, part of the date starting with the beginning of it, typing in the end of the date, or typing something within the date. For a string it's like 'Example', 'Exam%', '%ple', and '%amp% respectively. How do I accomplish this with a date?

Hello Gang,
I have a strange problem that I haven't dealt with before.
I need to execute a piece of code based on date ranges. If the date range is:
Scenario 1:between 02/28 (Feb 28) and 07/31 (July 31) do x
-----------------------------------------------------------
Scenario 2:between 08/01 (Aug 1) and 01/31 (Jan 31) do y
I am trying to automate a report. The report is supposed to generate a result that will differ based on the date ranges going into the future. E.g.
[1]. If the run date of the report is between '2/1/20xx' and '7/31/20xx' display <ABC> or
[2]. If the run date of the report is between '8/1/20xx' and '1/31/20xx' display <PQR>
In example # 2. I am moving from one year to the next (July to Dec and the one extra month of Jan). So for example, if the guy runs the report between August of 2008 and January of 2009, display <PQR>.
How do I achieve both # 1 & 2 above in a code? Does this explain better.

I'd like to select date using the following criteria:
< 30 days (i.e. select * from date where today's date < 30)
30 - 60 days (i.e. select * from date where today's date >= 30 and <= 60)
> 90 days (i.e. select * from date where today's date < 90)
Is there a simple way of acheiving this?

What I need to do is run a report based on just the month day and year portion. I am using the calendar control so mins, sec and milliseconds are not available nor do I really need them.
I am running the Query with this Stored Procedure
ALTER PROCEDURE dbo.Prodecure1

@WhereClause varchar(8000)
)
AS
-- Create a variable @SQLStatement
DECLARE @SQLStatement varchar(8000)
-- Enter the dynamic SQL statement into the variable @SQLStatement
SELECT @SQLStatement = 'SELECT column1, column2, etc...' +
@WhereClause
-- Execute the SQL statement
EXEC(@SQLStatement)

Hi,
Can you search a column of a database table to find all the rows that have a wor in it?
example: I have a row that contains 'adventure st north', there are other columns in that table that are suppose to be the same but read 'adventure street N.' or 'adventure st. N.' or 'North Adventure st.'
could I search for rows that contain 'adventure' in the column searched (lets call it columnA). I tried:
select * from tbl_test where columnA LIKE 'adventure' and got no results.
what is the way to do this?

Hi there, newbie here.
I'm building a web application that allows for tagging of items, using ASP.NET 2.0, C# and SQL Server.
I have my USERS, ITEMS and TAGS separated out into three tables, with an intersection table to connect them.
Imagine a user has found an item they are interested in and is about to tag it. They type their tag into a textbox and hit Enter.
Here's what I want to do:
I want to search the TagText column in my TAGS table, to see if the chosen tag is already in the table. If it is, the existing entry will be used in the new relationship the user is creating. Thus I avoid inserting a duplicate value in this column and save space. If the value is not already in the column, a new entry will be created.
Here's where I'm up to:
I can type a tag into a textbox and then feed it to a query, which returns any matches to a GridView control.
Now I'm stuck... I imagine I have to use "if else" scenario, but I'm unsure of the code I'll have to use. I also think that maybe ADO.NET could help me here, but I have not yet delved into this. Can anyone give me a few pointers to help me along?
Cheers!

Hello all,
I am using the ContainsTable function to search a database from my (c#) app. This works relatively well and all fields of the table are indexed and searched. That is, any column, but per record only one column.
What I mean is this: when searching for "chris 2007", I want to retrieve all items where author contains chris and year contains 2007. Currently, a search for chris brings up all items where author (or any other field) contains chris, a search for 2007 works as well, but chris 2007 fails as there is no -one- field where chris and 2007 are located.
Can anybody help me achieve this? My code is:
Code Block
SELECT FT_TBL.ID, FT_TBL.Type, FT_TBL.Author, IsNull(FT_TBL.Author, FT_TBL.Editor + ' (Ed.)') AS CorrectedAuthor, FT_TBL.Editor, FT_TBL.Title, FT_TBL.Abstract, FT_TBL.Comments, FT_TBL.Year, FT_TBL.City, FT_TBL.Publisher, FT_TBL.ISBN, FT_TBL.Pages, FT_TBL.Journal, FT_TBL.Issue, FT_TBL.Hyperlink, FT_TBL.Tags, KEY_TBL.RANK
FROM Sources AS FT_TBL
INNER JOIN CONTAINSTABLE(Sources, *, @searchQuery) AS KEY_TBL ON FT_TBL.ID = KEY_TBL.[KEY]
ORDER BY KEY_TBL.RANK DESC;
What am I doing wrong?
Thanks in advance,
Chris

I have a DB named zCIFRecord with a column named CIFUpdateDate which is of datatype varchar. The data is a date MM/DD/YYYY 01/30/2008, this is al that is in this column. I can search this colum for individual dates and for a range of dates. My problem is with a range of dates that is not within the same year, such as;
SELECT [CIFPan]
,[CIFMemNum]
,[CIFLName]
,[CIFFName]
FROM [FutureSoft].[dbo].[zCIFRecord]
WHERE [CIFUpdateDate] between '12/01/2007' and '01/30/2008'
will return nothing because it seems to only search on the 12 then the 01 then the 2008. this search can be performed properly on dates within the same year such as;
SELECT [CIFPan]
,[CIFMemNum]
,[CIFLName]
,[CIFFName]
FROM [FutureSoft].[dbo].[zCIFRecord]
WHERE [CIFUpdateDate] between '01/01/2008' and '01/30/2008'
will return the proper values because now all the numbers are in correct order. How can i create a search that lets me perform the first query as well as the second query. I tried to convert to a float but you cant convert a varchar to a float.

I have an SSIS package that moves data from SQL Server to an legacy Access database. In SQL Server, there is a date/time column that I need to split into a separate date column and time column in the access database. Initially I just created a derrived column for the time and set the expression equal to the source date/time column from SQL Server. Unfortunately, that just makes the date column and time column the same having the full date/time.
What expression can I use during a derrived column transformation to assign just the date to a derrived column and just the time to another derrived column?
Thanks,
Steve

If the declined date is filled in. Then I want to get the row, when the Datein column value is greater then the declined date only.
I tried grouping it by max date, but i got an error message when trying this out. Against the code
WHERE MAX(Datein) > Declined

I need to compare the contents of a column.
I have a table with 1 column. Below are the sample contents..
DateInterval
2012-06-01 00:30:00.000
2012-06-01 01:00:00.000
2012-06-01 01:30:00.000
2012-06-01 02:00:00.000
2012-06-01 02:30:00.000
[code]....
as you can see, the records have a 30minutes time interval. i need to create a query to know if there are missing records in the table. so basically the result should be this:
DateInterval
2012-06-01 18:00:00.000
2012-06-01 20:30:00.000
if it is not doable, we can get the nearest record of all missing records like this:
DateInterval
2012-06-01 17:30:00.000
2012-06-01 20:00:00.000
or this:
DateInterval
2012-06-01 18:30:00.000
2012-06-01 21:00:00.000
or this:
DateInterval
2012-06-01 17:30:00.000
2012-06-01 18:30:00.000
2012-06-01 20:00:00.000

Hello,
We have a bunch of Audit tables that contain almost exact copies of the operations tables. The audit tables also include:
AuditID - the audit action (insert, modify - old, modify - new, deleted)
AuditDate - date and time of action
AuditUser - User who did it...
At the end of the day I need to know for any given record what it looked like at the beginning of the day and what it looks like at the end of the day. There could have been numerous changes to the record throughout the day, those records I am not interested in. Only the first record and the last record of a give day.
I am going to be doing a lot of MIN(AuditDate) and MAX(AuditDATE) and .. WHERE AuditDate BETWEEN '10/1/2007 00:00:00' AND '10/1/2007 11:59:59' ...
Question: Whats better for performance:
1. Separating out the date and time and doing a clusterd index on the date.
2. Keeping date and time in the same column and just use a normal index.
3. Better ideas?
Thanks,
Bradley

I am trying to create a whole number DAX calculated column that is derived from a date column. Basically it gets the date from the source data column and outputs it as an integer in the YYYYMMDD format.So 01/OCT/2015 would become --> 20151001...I've been fidgeting with DAX but my problem is that I keep missing the leading zeroes for months and days. So 01/March/2015 becomes 201531 which is not what I want (I need 20150301 in this case).

I have two columns in a table:StartDate DateTime and StartTime DateTime.The StartDate column holds a value such as 07/16/2004The StartTime column holds a value such as 3:00:00 PMI want to be able to add them in a stored procedure.When I use StartDate + StartTime I get a date two days earlier than expected.For example, instead of 7/16/2004 3:00:00 PM StartDate + StartTime returns7/14/2004 3:00:00 PM.Can anyone point out wht I'm doing wrong with this one?Thanks,lq
