Hi everyone, I'm looking for a way to select the default value of a particular column but can't seem to find the syntax for this anywhere. It's a rather peculiar situation where it's needed...
Thanks
All,
When creating a dynamic parameter list from a query, Reporting Services graciously provides a "(Select All)" checkbox. How can I select this checkbox by default so that when a user generates the report, all of the values are selected?
Thanks
I set parameter as Multipul selection.
how to set it as "Select all" by default?
Thank you!
Friends,

Hello,
Today I was creating a report with a multi-value parameter.
Someone asked me if it was possible to select all by default.
So can someone tell me how to check "Select All" by default?
Found some topics which said to set "Default Values" to "From Query" and use the same query, but that didn't work for me.
Thanks,
Rens

Hi!
I have the following problem:
In my report I have -among others- a multi-value parameter, populated by a query (so I cannot a priori know the content of the list).
I would like my report to start without any user choice, through default parameters, so what I need is the "select all" choice selected by default. How can I achieve this?
[The only default value I am able to pass to the multi-value parameter is one of the elements populating the list, statically writing it in the "Non-queried" section of "Default values": "From query" option seems not to work for multi-valued]
Any help will be greatly appreciated!
Thanks
Stefano
Is it possible to define a Default value of a column as a select statement (or stored procedure that executes that select)?
My select should look sth like this in order to replace 'AB1236':
select 'AB' + cast((max(substring(col1, 3, 4)) + 1) as varchar(6)) from t_table1
col1 (varchar (6))
....
AB1233
AB1235

Hi everyone,
I have created a stored procedure in sql server with parameters for my c# application. Wanted to know is there anyway to set the default value for @searchpostcode to select all the records?
Right now it brings the records based on the postcode specified .(I have dropdownlist in my c# application that passes the parameters for postcode)

I have scenario where i have to pick one particular value from where condition. Here is the example:A store can have different types i-e A or B , A and B or either A or B.
Store Type Sales
11 A 1000
23 A 1980
23 B 50
5 B 560
I want to filter the store in "where clause" where
1)- if the store has type A and B, then assign only A
2)- if the store has type A associated with it then assign A
3)- if the store has type B associated with it, then assign B.
Select Store, sum(sales), Type
from table1
where (TYPE]= (case when [TYPE] in ('A','B') then 'A'
when [TYPE]='A' then 'A' else 'B'end))
GROUP BY [store], [TYPE]
The above statement is not working for when store has only Type B associated with it.
Hi!
I recently run into a senario when a procedure quiered a table without a order by clause. Luckily it retrived data in the prefered order.
The table returns the data in the same order in SQL Manager "Open Table"
So I started to wonder what deterimins the sort order when there is no order by clause ?
I researched this for a bit but found no straight answers. My table has no PK, but an identiy column.
Peace.

@pvColumnName VARCHAR(100) = Default,
However, I am unable to determine what is the value for Default. Is it '' ?
Default is not permitted as a constant - below fails to parse:
WHERE t2.TABLE_TYPE = 'BASE TABLE'
AND (@pvColumnName = Default OR t1.[COLUMN_NAME] Like @vColumnName)
I have a dataset listing distinct values for items (like 1, D10, M4, etc.) The WHERE statement in my query refers to unit IN(@Unit). I then have 2 report parameters to select 1) a date (datetime); and 2) a multivalue parameter to select one or all of the "units". I would like the second parameter to default to "Select All". Can someone tell me how to do this? I'm sure this is a fairly simple thing but I am really struggling. The report parameter is set as multivalue; My "available values" is set to "from query" and refers to my "unit" dataset and the value and label fields are set to "unit" (only field I bring into this particular dataset). The "Default Values" section is set to "from query" , the dataset is set to "unit" and the value is set to "unit". I can preview the report and select a date but the list of units comes up with all boxes unchecked, including "Select All". Any help will be much appreciated. Thanks.
View 11 Replies View RelatedFor reasons that are not relevant (though I explain them below *), Iwant, for all my users whatever privelige level, an SP which createsand inserts into a temporary table and then another SP which reads anddrops the same temporary table. My users are not able to create dbo tables (eg dbo.tblTest), but arepermitted to create tables under their own user (eg MyUser.tblTest). Ihave found that I can achieve my aim by using code like this . . .SET @SQL = 'CREATE TABLE ' + @MyUserName + '.' + 'tblTest(tstIDDATETIME)'EXEC (@SQL)SET @SQL = 'INSERT INTO ' + @MyUserName + '.' + 'tblTest(tstID) VALUES(GETDATE())'EXEC (@SQL)This becomes exceptionally cumbersome for the complex INSERT & SELECTcode. I'm looking for a simpler way.Simplified down, I am looking for something like this . . .CREATE PROCEDURE dbo.TestInsert ASCREATE TABLE tblTest(tstID DATETIME)INSERT INTO tblTest(tstID) VALUES(GETDATE())GOCREATE PROCEDURE dbo.TestSelect ASSELECT * FROM tblTestDROP TABLE tblTestIn the above example, if the SPs are owned by dbo (as above), CREATETABLE & DROP TABLE use MyUser.tblTest while INSERT & SELECT usedbo.tblTest.If the SPs are owned by the user (eg MyUser.TestInsert), it workscorrectly (MyUser.tblTest is used throughout) but I would have to havea pair of SPs for each user.* I have MS Access ADP front end linked to a SQL Server database. Forreports with complex datasets, it times out. Therefore it suit mypurposes to create a temporary table first and then to open the reportbased on that temporary table.

Hi,
Does anyone have a workaround or know of a fix to this problem:
Default value set to 'date pick' from date currently within field by setting value equal to that field . ie if date is 01/01/2010 date picker opens in Jan 2010 - works ok.
However, once published to Sharepoint and run through browser the Date Picker ignores the default value and the date picker opens for today. ie April 2008.
Any words of wisdom gratefully recieved,
Howard Stiles
Hello all,
I have two mult-value parameters in my report. Both of them working with selecting one or more values. But, when I test using "(Select All)" values for both parameters , only one parameter works. The "available values" for these two parameters are both from the data set.
select distinct ProductType
from Product
order by ProductType
Any suggestion? thx
I am unable to the access on table even after providing the SELECT permission on table.
Used Query by me :
Here Test is schema ; Card is table ; User is Satish
To grant select on Table
GRANT SELECT ON TEST.Card TO satish
Even after this it is not working, So provided select on schema also.
used query : GRANT SELECT ON SCHEMA::TEST TO Satish.

I think I did not get a complete output from this job. Please help and advise whether I should search somewhere in the SSMSE for the complete results or I should correct some code statements in my SELECTeg8.sql for obtaining the complete results.

I have a report that uses different datasets based on the year selected by a user.
I have a year_id parameter that sets a report variable named dataset_chosen. I have varified that these are working correctly together.
I have attempted populating table cell data to display from the chosen dataset. As yet to no avail.
How could I display data from the dataset a user selects via the year_id options?

I have a problem where my users complain that a select statement takes too long, at 90 seconds, to read 120 records out of a database.
The select statement reads from 9 tables three of which contain 1000000 records, the others contain between 100 and 250000 records.
I have checked that each column in the joins are indexed - they are (but some of them are clustered indexes, not unclustered).
I have run the SQL Profiler trace from the run of the query through the "Database Engine Tuning Advisor". That just suggested two statistics items which I added (no benefit) and two indexes for tables that are not involved at all in the query (I didn't add these).
I also ran the query through the Query window in SSMS with "Include Actual Execution Plan" enabled. This showed that all the execution time was being taken up by searches of the clustered indexes.
I have tried running the select with just three tables involved, and it completes fast. I added a fourth and it took 7 seconds. However there was no WHERE clause for the fourth table, so I got a cartesian product which might have explained the problem.
So my question is: Is it normal for such a type of read query to take 90 seconds to complete?
Is there anything I could do to speed it up.
Any other thoughts?
Thanks
