Need A Way To Switch Specific Data From Columns
Jul 13, 2005Basically I have 635k records in a table with a person's first name, and date of birth (other stuff but it's not relavent). I imported all the data from excel files, but somehow a bunch of records got the first name and date of birth mixed up, so I'm trying to write a stored procedure that would switch the first name with the date of birth wherever the firstname is purely numeric, or something of the sort. Now records are in fact repeated so another possible but more time taking solution is to write a stored procedure that I give the date of birth and it does the switching around for the respective date of birth when it's found inside the First name. Any suggestions? All the code I've written has proved useless :/

Recovering Specific Tables Within A Database.
Mar 27, 2008We currently have a company program in foxpro which inputs all of our information into its database. We are trying to shift from this to new updated software and a SQL database. There is a program we created which converts all the data from our old database into our new SQL database in preparation for our final move to the newer software. However, some of the tables in SQL were not taken directly from our old database but rather added in directly after our initial use of SQL, so when we ran our conversion software, a couple of specific tables were wiped because there was no equivilant within our old database. We already altered our conversion program to not touch those tables again, but is there any way to do a roll back or to find a backup of specific tables?

Apr 29, 2015I have a business need to create a report by query data from a MS SQL 2008 database and display the result to the users on a web page. The report initially has 6 columns of data and 2 out of 6 have JSON data so the users request to have those 2 JSON columns parse into 15 additional columns (first JSON column has 8 key/value pairs and the second JSON column has 7 key/value pairs). Here what I have done so far:
I found a table value function (fnSplitJson2) from this link [URL]. Using this function I can parse a column of JSON data into a table. So when I use the function above against the first column (with JSON data) in my query (with CROSS APPLY) I got the right data back the but I got 8 additional rows of each of the row in my table. The reason for this side effect is because the function returned a table of 8 row (8 key/value pairs) for each json string data that it parsed.
1. First question: How do I modify my current query (see below) so that for each row in my table i got back one row with 19 columns.

Jul 15, 2015I have two queries from two different tables ex ABC and BCD. For table ABC, according to my query, I got 11 records ; for table BCD I only got 9 records.
Bottom line: I would like to see only 11 records from Table ABC including certain data from table BCD after I joined this two tables.
However, no matter what I did I always got 99 records when I joined.

I don't know whether anyone has this problem, but I am definitely not using the right keywords to search for a thread.
My situation is this...
I have a dataset that has values to fill cells to multiple tables in a report.
However, I only want to select specific data from the dataset to fill textboxes and others.
I cannot change the stored procedure, but the sample of the data is shown below:-

I know it looks weird, but the row really represents which "row" or textbox is it to fill with the Val. The Stat Column is just a way to make sure that I am filling the right values.
so my new report would have multiple tables to denote different categories.
In my first table, I tried putting the cells as follows:-

I tried putting it into the headerrows instead of DetailRows, and it ended up printing the last value.
Is there anyway to do this ? print all the values out in one table ? I tried using textboxes, but I think I got my expression wrong.
Is this the correct expression ?

I need it to be dynamic because columns could be added to both tables anytime.

Newbie Trying To Get Specific Data From An SSE Database
May 28, 2006It was suggested to me to try and post this here in the sql express forum.
I am trying to query a specific field from my sse database based on two different variables. And use this information to fill a textbox with an integer.
The first variable is a combobox that is filled with data in one of the other tables in the sse database. This table has a PKcolumn that is an integer and the identity of the column. The only other column is a nvarchar(30) string (which is the actual data in the combobox)
The second variable is a numeric up down that isn't actualy using info from the database but will be a reference. It has a max value written in to the code:

The texbox value will be found in a table that has several columns, the first column is an identity column (also the PK) then it has a column that holds an integer value (the filter criteria for the numeric up down) the next column has the value that will fill the text box, then several other columns that are irrelevant for this, and then the final column is a foreign key that is linked to the primary key of information found in the table that feeds the combo box.
I will post a picture of the database diagram to show all of this information for a better understanding of this post.
I am not looking for someone to write the code for me, but I am totally stumped as to what I need to do, If someone can help me out with this I would greatly appreciate it, thanks in advanced.

SQL Server 2008 :: Replicate Only Specific Data To Specific Subscriber?
Jun 30, 2015We have a "main" SQL 2014 server who imports XML files using SSIS in a datacenter. In remote sites (which are warehouses), there is an instance of SQL 2014 Express. A merge replication is setup, as every operations done on each site must be "forwared" to the main database, as some XML files are generated as output for an ERP system.
Now, the merge replication replicate all the data to the server on each sites. But a specific site don't need the data of every other sites, only the data relevant to itself (which is the warehouse code). Is there a way to replicate only the data relevant to each individual sites to the subscribers? Or is there a better way than replication to accomplish this?

Loading Data Into Columns 75 - N In Tables?
Jun 23, 2004I'm having a very irritating time trying to migrate data from a COBOL system to SQL Server.
One of the A/R Master files has approx. 200 columns.
I can export this file any number of ways that will (sometimes) load partially into my database, but always when the load succeeds, columns 75 through N simply contain NULL, even though there is data in the file. When the load fails in DTS, the error is always missing column delimiter. Using BULK INSERT the error is always something like data too long at column 75.
Putting all this together, I have deduced that something isn't working if I try
to load a staging table with more than 74 columns of data. This seems like a way-too-low threshold for a robust database, especially since SQL Server is supposed to be able to handle up to 1,024 columns per table.
Has anyone ever encountered this problem?

I have my Projects Table, my Users Table, and am creating a third table to track issues. I'm wondering what is the best way to assign specific users to specific data/projects. I am writing a portion of an app that is of intensely high online eCommerce usage. I have a question about identity columns and locking or not.
What I am doing is, I have two tables (normalized), one is OrderDemographics(firstname,lastname,ccum,etc) the other is OrderItems. I have the primary key of OrderDemographics as a column called 'ID' (an Identity Integer that is incrementing). In the OrderItems table, the 'OrderID' column is a foreign key to the OrderDemographics Primary Key column 'ID'.
What I have previously done is to insert the demographics into OrderDemographics, then do a 'select top 1 ID from OrderDemographics order by ID DESC' to get that last ID, since you can't tell what it is until you add another row....
The problem is, there's up to 20,000 users/sessions at once and there is a possiblity that in the fraction of a second it takes to select back that ID integer and use it for the initial OrderItems row, some other user might have clicked 'order' a fraction of a second after the first user and created another row in OrderDemographics, thus incrementing the ID column and throwing all the items that Customer #1 orders into Customer #2's order....
How do I lock a SQL table or lock the Application in .NET to handle this problem and keep it from occurring?

Hi.
A newbie question. I am tearing my hair out trying to work out how in Sql Server 2005 to get a printout (or even better a file I can save that i could incroporate in a wrod document), or both, which shows the structure of all the tables in my database.
I want to list all tables (or selected tables perhaps) , and all columns in those tables, with the attributes of each column (nvarchar(2) etc or decimal(18,5) etc). Just a simple listing of all tables and their columns and the attributes of those columns.
Surely this must be possible with a simple one click operation in Sql Server 2005. I have created a database diagram which gives me part of what I want, but that just shows the tables, relationships, and column names, not the attributes of each column which is what I need as well.
I don't want to have to start installing third party products to do this, and I have no great script writing capabilities. Surely such a basic function is easily acheivable with one or two clicks in Sql Server 2005 from a menu somewhere in sql server mangaement studio?
