Select Customer Last Inserted Order Details
Sep 15, 2007
Hi,
Check this SQL
SELECT DISTINCT
TblOrder.CustomerUID,
TblOrder.OrderHiddenID,
TblPayment.PaymentAmount,
TblPayment.Result,
TblOrder.OrderID
FROM TblOrder
CROSS JOIN TblPayment
WHERE (TblOrder.CustomerUID = @IsCustomerID)
AND (TblOrder.OrderHiddenID = @IsHiddenID)
AND (TblPayment.Result = 'Pending')
AND (TblOrder.OrderID IN (SELECT MAX(TblOrder2.OrderID) FROM TblOrder TblOrder2))
one customer can have more than one orders.
So i need to select customer last inserted order details from database.So when i use above sql i returns null.what might be the reason for this

I have a query that calculate the total amount of order details based on a particular order:
Select a.OrderID,SUM(UnitPrice*Quantity-Discount)
From [Order Details]
Inner Join Orders a
On a.OrderID=[Order Details].OrderID
Group by a.OrderID
My question is what if I wanted to create a formula to something like:
UnitPrice * Quantity - DiscountAmount Where DiscountAmount = UnitPrice Quantity * Discount
Do I need to create a function for that? Also is it possible to have m y query as a table variable?

Hi!
For the Orders table (let's assume for the Northwind database), I'm trying
to get the order id of the latest order for every customer.
That means that the result should be one record per customer and that would
display CustomerID and OrderID.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Assaf

I am trying to classify a customer's order method preference based on their history. My source table has every order, order method, date, etc.
The logic is:
If only one order method, that is their preference>1 order method, the majority is their preferenceif 50/50 split, the order method with the mose recent order is the preference
I then created a query to group by the customer, order method, and max(date):

I am having trouble though, creating a query that applies the above logic and outputs this:[URL]

I have a table with all my orders lines, I need to identify (DAX formula) for a specific customer which is the first order of a specific article (first date filtered for customer and article) and use this information to tag the order line for that article for the specific customer as "Newly Ordered article" if the order date = first order date or as "Reordered article" if the date on the specific order line is subsequent to the first order date.
I imagine I need to combine a Lookup date filtered for customer and article and use it with a IF formula.
Similar to this I would also like to define that if the first order for a product for the specific custumer is older then a certain date, then this would be defined as and historical customer for the specific article, if the first order on the article is more recent the a specific date, then this will be defined as "new customer for that article".

The database consists of the following tables:
create table dbo.customer (
customer_id int identity primary key clustered,
customer_name nvarchar(256) not null
)
create table dbo.purchase_order (
purchase_order_id int identity primary key clustered
customer_id int not null,
amount money not null,
order_date date not null
)
Implement a query for the report that will provide the following information: for each customer output at most 5 different dates which contain abnormally high or low amounts (bigger or less than 3 times SDTDEV from AVG), for each of these dates output minimum and maximum amounts as well.
Possible result: [URL] ......

Hi Friends
I faced a problem when using Northwind sample Database. On of the table in the database is 'Order Details'. I am unable to query on the table because of the space in the name ('Order'<space> 'Details') of the table. When I remove the space in the name, the reports associated in Cognos are not working properly. Let me know whether there is any purpose to put the name like that and if I want to see the data in query mode how it is possible.
Thanks in advance

Hi
I have came across a table in SQL server 2000 which named 'Order Details' in the sample 'Northwind' database which is available with the product. Am using the eval version . Generally no table name exist with a 'space' between the words. But the table 'Order Details' exist in the Northwind sample database.
Due to the naming convention i can't run sql queries on that. Is anyone aware of this type of issues.
Pls help

We have an app that uses triggers for auditing. Is there a way to know the order that the records were inserted or deleted? Or maybe a clearer question is.... Can the trigger figure out if it was invoked for a transaction that "inserted and then deleted" a record versus "deleted and then inserted" a record? The order of these is important to our auding.
Thanks!

I have a table that sometimes has modifications to column(s) comprising the primary key [usually "end_date"]. I need to audit changes on this table, and naturally, turned to after triggers.
The problem is that for updates, when the primary key composition changes, I'm not able to relate/join using the primary key - obviously, it no longer matches across INSERTED and DELETED. Now, for a single row update, it's easy to check for updates on PK columns and then deduce what changes were made...
So the real question is: are rows in INSERTED and DELETED always in matching order (1st row in INSERTED corresponds to the 1st row in DELETED...)?
I don't want to put a surrogate key (GUID nor IDENTITY) on the base table if at all possible. INSERT... SELECT from the inserted/deleted tables into a temp table with identity column is fine, and is what I'm currently doing; I would like MVP or product engineer level confirmation that my ordering assumption is correct.
Testing using an identity surrogate key on base table, and selecting from the Ins/del tables, and the temp tables without an order by clause seems to always return in proper order (proper for my purposes). I've tested under SQL 2005 RTM, SP1, SP2, and SP2 "3152".
FYI, I've lost the debate that such auditing is better handled by the application, not the database server...
Aside: why doesn't the ROW_NUMBER() function allow an empty OVER( ORDER BY() ) clause? Will SQL ever expose an internal row_id, at least in the pseudo tables, so we can work around this situation?
Thanks
Mike

If I have a table structure similar to the following, how might I query it to obtain the Transaction ID, Transaction Date, and Customer Name for the most recent transaction per customer only:
TransactionTable:
TransactionID TransactionDate TransactionType CustomerName
1 10/1/07 1 Bob
2 8/30/07 2 Janet
3 9/17/07 1 Mike
4 9/25/07 1 Bob
The following query will return all records in the table other than Janets...not what I want:
SELECT Transaction ID, TransactionDate, CustomerName
FROM TransactionTable
WHERE TransactionType = 1
ORDER BY TransactionDate DESC
The following query will return all records in the table other than Janets again, because DISTINCT will use the combo of TransactionID, TransactionDate, and Customer name for uniqueness...not what I want:
SELECT DISTINCT Transaction ID, TransactionDate, CustomerName
FROM TransactionTable
WHERE TransactionType = 1
ORDER BY TransactionDate DESC
The results set I'm looking for would be the following, where only the most recent entry per customer with TransactionType 1 is returned (i.e. one record for Bob):
TransactionTable:
TransactionID TransactionDate CustomerName
1 10/1/07 Bob
3 9/17/07 Mike
I believe I need an appropriate subquery to yield the results I desire, but can't sort out what it is? I do not want to execute multiple queries but subqueries are fine. Unfortunately there's probably an easy answer that my brain is not currently generating. Any help would be appreciated.
Note, this is not a real table, but a sample to illustrate the concept for the query I need.
Thanks.

Hi!
I recently run into a senario when a procedure quiered a table without a order by clause. Luckily it retrived data in the prefered order.
The table returns the data in the same order in SQL Manager "Open Table"
So I started to wonder what deterimins the sort order when there is no order by clause ?
I researched this for a bit but found no straight answers. My table has no PK, but an identiy column.
Peace.

Hi everyone,
I am having a header table and details table and I want to display first 2 records against each header from details, whatever number of records are there in details against each header.
Example :
=======
Details table is as follows
HeaderID DetailsID
1 1
1 2
1 3
2 4
3 5
3 6
3 7
3 8
output should be:
TransDate SupplierName HeaderID DetailsID
1/1/2000 abc 1 1
1/1/2000 dsds 1 2
2/3/2003 fgd 2 4
2/4/2005 sdsd 3 5
1/1/2006 fgfdg 3 6
I am using the following query
SELECT H.TransDate, H.SupplierName, D.DetailsID FROM
Header H, Details D
WHERE H.HeaderID = D.DetailsID
AND D.DetailsID IN (SELECT TOP 2 DetailsID FROM Details WHERE HeaderID = H.HeaderID)
As I am dealing with very huge data it is taking very long time to execute.
Is there any better way to accomplish the task?
Thanks.

Hi all!
I'm trying to get some XML data into SQL Server but i ran into problem when inserting the data (multiple orders with multiple order details) using a single sproc. Is it possible, or do I have to do in some other way? :confused:
I simplified my example to this:
-----------------------------
--CREATE PROCEDURE sp_InsertOrders AS
DECLARE @docHandle INT, @xmlDoc VARCHAR(4000), @orderID INT
--DROP TABLE #Orders
CREATE TABLE #Orders
(
OrderId SMALLINT IDENTITY(1,1),
FkCustomerID SMALLINT NOT NULL,
OrderDate DATETIME NOT NULL
)
--DROP TABLE #OrderDetails
CREATE TABLE #OrderDetails
(
OrderDetailsId SMALLINT IDENTITY(1,1),
FkOrderID SMALLINT NOT NULL,
ProductID SMALLINT NOT NULL,
UnitPrice SMALLINT NOT NULL
)
Set @xmlDoc = '
<Orders>
<Order CustomerID="1" OrderDate="2004-04-01">
<OrderDetails ProductID="6" UnitPrice="19"/>
<OrderDetails ProductID="3" UnitPrice="11"/>
<OrderDetails ProductID="9" UnitPrice="7"/>
</Order>
<Order CustomerID="2" OrderDate="2004-04-12">
<OrderDetails ProductID="2" UnitPrice="24"/>
<OrderDetails ProductID="4" UnitPrice="13"/>
</Order>
</Orders>'
EXEC sp_xml_preparedocument @docHandle OUTPUT, @xmlDoc
INSERT INTO #Orders (FkCustomerID, OrderDate)
SELECT CustomerID, OrderDate
FROM OpenXML(@docHandle, 'Orders/Order', 3)
WITH (
CustomerID INTEGER,
OrderDate DATETIME
)
SET @OrderID = @@IDENTITY;
--INSERT INTO #OrderDetails (@OrderID, ProductID, UnitPrice)
SELECT @OrderID AS OrderID, ProductID, UnitPrice
FROM OpenXML(@docHandle, 'Orders/Order/OrderDetails', 3)
WITH (
ProductID INTEGER,
UnitPrice INTEGER
)
-----------------------------
All orders are inserted first which makes the use of @@IDENTITY incorrect (it works fine if you insert a single order with multiple order details). Since it was quite some time since I last worked with SQL I am not sure if am doing it the right way... :confused: :confused: Anybody out there who knows how to solve the problem?
Cheers,
Christian

I was thinking that this question probably comes up a lot...but my forum searches didn't turn anything up, so here goes:
I have an id field that auto increments (identity) for each record.
I insert a record.
How can I safely extract the id field of the record for use in another query, avoiding the possiblity that another record is inserted before I can get at it?
Thanks,

I am not able to activate or to show this "tab", to get all information about my error.
I added two screeshots, one with the 3 tab, and the other, were the information about my error are missing. How i can my default view back?

Lets say I have a table named [Leadership] and I want to select the field 'leadershipName' from the [Leadership] Table.
My query would look something like this:
Select leadershipName
From Leadership
Now, I would like to order the results of this query... but I don't want to simply order them by ASC or DESC. Instead, I need to order them as follows:
Executive Board Members, Delegates, Grievance Chairs, and Negotiators
My question: Can this be done through MS SQL or do I need to add a field to my [Leadership] table named 'leadershipImportance' or something as an integer to denote the level of importance of the position so that I can order on that value ASC or DESC?
Thanks,
Zoop

I'm doing a INSERT...SELECT where I'm dependent on the records SELECT:ed to be in a certain order. This order is enforced through a clustered index on that table - I can see that they are in the proper order by doing just the SELECT part.
However, when I do the INSERT, it doesn't work (nothing is inserted) - can the order of the records from the SELECT part be changed internally on their way to the INSERT part, so to speak?
Actually - it is a view that I'm inserting into, and there's an instead-of-insert trigger on it that does the actual insertions into the base table. I've added a "PRINT" statement to the trigger code and there's just ONE record printed (there should be millions).
