I have a report that uses different datasets based on the year selected by a user.
I have a year_id parameter that sets a report variable named dataset_chosen. I have varified that these are working correctly together.
I have attempted populating table cell data to display from the chosen dataset. As yet to no avail.
How could I display data from the dataset a user selects via the year_id options?

I have a problem with CREATE DATABASE statement, since it needs to specify the absolut path for a file in the FILENAME= option. I would need instead a relative path, i.e. only the name of the file because the script that launch this SQL command is dependant on the installation path decided by the user, during the installation.
Is there a way to pass to the FILENAME only the name of the file?

I have mult-value parameter set up for a report and when i preview the report in visual studio 2005, the "select all" option is displayed in the drop down list and works beautifully for selecting all.
When i deploy the report to the intranet website and click on the report, reporting services doesn't show that option to select all. It will however let me click amongst the generated list, but not an option to just click a "select all"?
Is this normal? I suppose i could always just code a value that generates all and add it as one of the selection, but this is more of a functionality question than a coding.

I need to expand resursion level for resursive CTE expression within CREATE FUNCTION statement for inline table function to a value greater than default. It turns out that OPTION clause for MAXRECURSION hint perfectly works if I use it outside CREATE FUNCTION (as well as CREATE VIEW for non-parametrized queries), but it does not within CREATE FUNCTION statement - I'm getting error:

I have a Managers table in my SQL DB and it has a ManagerID, MgrName and MgrPhoto field base...
I can code a form with a select button that displays a drop down with the managers in it as choices, but am a little confused as to how I would make the PHOTO (MgrPhoto) change to the corresponding ManagerID that is selected from that option drop down since the SELECT CODE in the form only queries the ManagerID / MgrName combo for the choice.. The photo is below that drop down box and how to make it change to whatever photo is assigned to the selected ManagerID / MgrName ?

I have several reports that use parameters that I have defined as multi-value. When I am designing the reports I see the "(Select All)" option listed first in each parm control that has the multi-value property set true. However, when the same reports are deployed to our server and viewed through Report Manager, the "(Select All)" option is missing. I need the "(Select All)" to be present.
I've seen some discussion of a service pack. Could this be the problem? What do we need to do to get our "(Select All)" back?

Hi Sql gurus :))I've got a question that I couldn't find a satisfying answer on the net.What is the difference between:1) running sql query (select from sth with nolock) with no transaction2) running sql query (select from sth) withing a TransactionScope with option Read Uncommitted dataBasically, both should do the same work. However is anyone aware of any potential problems using any of both approaches ?We use 1) to improve our web application scalability since the system works in such a way that any selects and updates on that table (sth) do not interfere with one another.However, updates are done in a TransactionScope. And when having simultaneous select with nolock and update in a Transaction scope (the select statement has a where clause and returns records that are not updated by the update statement). However sometimes ( we still cannot figure it out when) the select statement returns some records twice.For example, the select should return 1000 records , but (sometimes) it returns 1002 records ( the extra 2 records are copies of some of the original 1000 records).Removing the nolock, makes the problem does not appear - but i want to be 100% sure that nolock is our troublemaker. And if it is - why ?We also have a problem that this particular nolock select sometimes return even less records than it should.I know it sounds impossible but it happens.So anyone who has experience with select with nolock, please share :)Thanks in advance, Yani
View 4 Replies View RelatedI am currently having this problem with gridview and detailview. When I drag either onto the page and set my select statement to pick from one table and then update that data through the gridview (lets say), the update works perfectly. My problem is that the table I am pulling data from is mainly foreign keys. So in order to hide the number values of the foreign keys, I select the string value columns from the tables that contain the primary keys. I then use INNER JOIN in my SELECT so that I only get the data that pertains to the user I am looking to list and edit. I run the "test query" and everything I need shows up as I want it. I then go back to the gridview and change the fields which are foreign keys to templates. When I edit the templates I bind the field that contains the string value of the given foreign key to the template. This works great, because now the user will see string representation instead of the ID numbers that coinside with the string value. So I run my webpage and everything show up as I want it to, all the data is correct and I get no errors. I then click edit (as I have checked the "enable editing" box) and the gridview changes to edit mode. I make my changes and then select "update." When the page refreshes, and the gridview returns, the data is not updated and the original data is shown. I am sorry for so much typing, but I want to be as clear as possible with what I am doing. The only thing I can see being the issue is that when I setup my SELECT and FROM to contain fields from multiple tables, the UPDATE then does not work. When I remove all of my JOIN's and go back to foreign keys and one table the update works again. Hi everyone In my SqlServer Management Studio Express, on start up it shows the server type option, but greyed.So that value is fixed to database engine. ( I'm trying to work on an SqlServer Compact Edition database through the SSMStudiothat's why I'm trying to get this to change.)Besides, after I connect i go to the Object Explorer, expand the server node, and go to Replication.When i expand replication, i get the "Local Subscription" option, but nothng for Publication.( I want to work on Merge Replication, that's why I desparately need Publication to work)Am i missing something here? I did not install SqlServer separately, I only have what comes bundled with the Visual Studio 2005 Setup.

So I started a new job recently and have noticed a few strange configurations. Typically I would never mess with min memory per query option and index create memory option configuration because i just haven't seen any need to. My typical thought is that if it isn't broke... They have been modified on every single server in my environment.
From Books Online:
• This option is an advanced option and should be changed only by an experienced database administrator or certified SQL Server technician.
• The index create memory option is self-configuring and usually works without requiring adjustment. However, if you experience difficulties creating indexes, consider increasing the value of this option from its run value.

I am using three tables in this query, one is events_detail, one is events_summary, the third if gifts. The original select statement counted the number of ids (event_details.id_number) that appear per event_name (event_summary.event_name).
Now, I would like to add in another column that counts the number of IDs that gave a gift who attended an event that were also listed in the event_ details table. So far I have come up with the following. My main issue is linking the subquery properly back to the main query. how to count in the sub-query and have the result placed within the groups results in the main query.

Can some one point me in the right direction in how to construct my SQL query within my cursor?
I Have got a cursor which i am using to iterate through a table, What i am trying to do is in my statement(used to open the cursor) is compare 2 tables (the one which my cursor is iterating) to see if there is a matching row in the other table (using both tables ID's Like So:
SELECT column_List
FROM Table1
WHERE Table1_id = Table2_id
so for each row my cursor checks if there is a corresponding match in table2... but i would like to write to an error log
and do other statements if there is no match
how do i add this condition to my statement either using an if...else statement proceeding to the next row?
here is the statment i attempted to write:

FROM table1
WHERE
Table1_id = Table2.id
now i want to incoporate the statements below into the statement above as a condition when table1.id <> table2.id

I am a newbie to SQL. I have a table (AenComponent) with three columns (State1, State2, State3). Each column has a set of numeric values. I would like to get a number count from all of the rows that contain the value of 1, no matter which column they are in.
I have tried
SELECT COUNT(*) AS Expr1FROM AenComponentWHERE (State1 = 1) OR (State2 = 1) OR (State3 = 1)
but it does not give me an accurate count. Any help would be appreciated.

I'm trying to get a list of clients and their sum of total pmts, their pmt level, and pmt level description by date range.
