Selecting Records From One Column In A Table And Inserting..

Heres my question..
I have 2 tables.2 paticular columns exist in both the tables.
I want to be able to select those 2 columns on the 1st table and insert them on to the same 2 columns on the 2nd table.
Now,this 2nd table has another 3 columns that exist in another table.I would like to take those 3 column values from that 3rd table and insert it into the 2nd table by modifying those existing records in the 2nd table.In the 3rd table,there will be around 5 records...I want to copy the existing records 5 times in the 2nd table and insert the 3rd tables rows inside the 2nd table in that respective column for 5 rows.
I hope you understand what I mean...Im sorry for really confusing..

Hi, I have a question regarding how to insert one column values into a table by selecting from different table..Here is the syntax..

Table1 contains fields Groupid, UserName,Category, Dimension
Table2 contains fields Group, Name,Category, Dimension (Group and Name are not in Table1)
So basically I need to read the records in Table1 using Groupid and each time there is a Groupid then select records from Table2 where Table2.Category in (Select Catergory from Table1)
and Table2.Dimension in (Select Dimension from Table1)
In Table1 There might be 10 Groupid records all of which are different.

Ok, I'm really new at this, but I am looking for a way to automatically insert new records into tables. I have one primary table with a primary key id that is automatically generated on insert and 3 other tables that have foreign keys pointing to the primary key. Is there a way to automatically create new records in the foreign tables that will have the new id? Would this be a job for a trigger, stored procedure? I admit I haven't studied up on those yet--I am learning things as I need them. Thanks.

hi, i am sure this is very simple, but its just got me stuck! i have a table which i use for inserting products, now its not very exciting to see the cat_id so i wanted to put a dropdown box on there which would show the cat_description from tbl_cat and then put the tbl_cat.cat_id into tbl_products.cat_id

i ve a table named "Employee" in wh i ve fields "Emp_Id","Name" and "Email". i want to select each employee "Emp_Id" one by one from "Employee" table and insert it into another table named "Concerned_Department". like if i ve three rows in "Employee" table with "Emp_Id" 1,2 and 3 respectively,in this case i want to first select "Emp_Id"=1 then "Emp_id"=2 and lastly "Emp_id"=3 and insert them into "Concerned_Department"table.
after that the process starts again like inserting "Emp_Id"=1 in "Concerned_Department" and so on.
plz note that i want to insert "Emp_Id" one by one not all the fields together.
can u plz tell me the query for that wh i ve to write in SQL

Let me give u an example,its like:
I have UID,QID,Option1,Option2,Survey Name in one table called Survey Answers and i must select these values and insert them into Surevy Count table which contains some fields as QID,Opt1Cnt,Opt2Cnt,Survey Name. this is an online survey and when ever an user participate in the survey then values will be changed in Survey Answers like:

Hi, my sql is not too hot so i hope someone can help me. I need to select all the records from one table that do not exist in 2 other tables. I know it sounds simple enough but for some reason i can not get it working. It may have something to do with the fact that the field i am searching on are datetime fields. Here is a shortened version of my code.

Is there any way to insert multiple records into a table in one go?
I have a table named Fruit.
It contains FruitId,OwnerId,Colour
The list of colour is got from another table name FruitColour.
FruitColour Consists of 2 column, FruitName and Colour.
Is it possible to insert multiple records into Fruit table with one query if only the colour is changed.
Sample case
I have an Apple.
Fruit id=2
OwnerId=2
Colour -- > Select Colour From FruitColour where FruitName='Apple' (Will return multiple records)
I tried to insert using this query:
Insert into Fruit(FruitId,OwnerId,Colour) Values (2,2,Select Colour from FruitColour where FruitName='Apple').
Gives me this error
Subqueries are not allowed in this context. Only scalar expressions are allowed.
I need to do this because actually I am inserting multiple fruit at one time, and each have multiple colour. If I need to insert the colour one by one for each fruit it will takes a very long time.
Any suggestion are welcomed.

I am comparing names of people from a table without id field to a table that has those people along with their ids.
I have a select statements using different field combinations that fetches ids of these people and presents the result set like:
table1id,table1firstname,table2firstname,table1lastname,table2lastname
E.g.:
1 john john smith smith
1 john j smith smith
1 john jon smith smit
I want to be able to insert all the records from the result set into another table, like in the eg, but only excluding those ones that match all the above fields. How would I do this...

I need help with this. When I run the below script (only select) it retrives around 130K records and gives me the output within 2 mins. Whenever I try to put the same output in a temp or permanent table it takes hours. Any Idea why?

Hi,
I have a temporary table into which I insert bulk data from a stored procedure output. It will be easy for me if the temptable can have a column with sequential numbers 1,2,3,4,. I could not figure out a way to do it. This is the stripped down sql what I have in the stored procedure.
insert into temptable select name, email, date from usertable where condition = xyz.
I tried auto increment column with seed 1, increment 1. But if I delete and insert again it does not start from 1. Is there any way to accompolish this? It will make the front-end code very simple.

I have two tables called ECASE and PROJECT
In the ECASE table there is trigger to get the max value of case_id column in ecase based on project and increment one to that case_id value and insert into ecase table .
When we insert a new record to the ECASE table this trigger calls and insert the case_id column value.
When i run with multiple threads , the transaction is rolled back because of trigger . The reason is , on the project table the lock is happening while getting the max value of case_id column based on project.
I need to prevent the deadlock .

I am trying to exclude records from a table where the ID column is the same but the Mail code Column is multi-valued.For Example: (the table looks like....)
ID Mail_code
111111 XNT

111111 XNC
222222 XNC
222222 XNL
333333 XNC
So, if there is any ID that has a value of XNC, I want to exclude the ID all together from my output regardless of the other values.

I'm inserting data from a c# webservice into a table via a stored procedure, but I get a Column does not allow nulls on the @alert_id column/field. It is set as int and allow nulls is not ticked.

I want to produce some output for Mainframe application. For that I want to insert values from multiple table as source to a single column (huge in size)of a different table (Destination table). There may be same related records in all of the source tables with the primary key. I have a table with a string value, where all values are seperated by a space/blank. I now want to use SQL to split all the values and insert them into a different table, which then later will result in deleting the old table, as soon as I got all values out from it.
Old Table:

Do note: Value1 is INT, Value2 is of nvarchar, hence Value2 can contain spaces... I just need to split on the FIRST space, then convert index[0] to int, and store index[1] as it is.
I can split on all spaces and just Select them all and add them like so: SELECT t.val1 + ' ' + t.val2... If I cant find the first space that is... I mean, first 2-10 characters in the string can be integer, but does not have to be.Shall probably do it in code instead of SQL?Now I want to run a query that selects the StringValue from OldTable, splits the string by ' ' (a blank) and then inserts them into New Table.
