Sending Multiple Sql Statements In One Request, Transaction Safe?
Dec 15, 2007
If I send multiple sql's with ado.net in one statement (one executeSql separated by semilcolons), and the second one fails, will the first one be rolled back? or do I need to put it all in a transaction?
I'm receiving the below error when trying to implement Execute SQL Task.
"The ROLLBACK TRANSACTION request has no corresponding BEGIN TRANSACTION." This error also happens on COMMIT as well and there is a preceding Execute SQL Task with BEGIN TRANSACTION tranname WITH MARK 'tran'
I know I can change the transaction option property from "supported" to "required" however I want to mark the transaction. I was copying the way Import/Export Wizard does it however I'm unable to figure out why it works and why mine doesn't work.
Hi, A transport-level error has occurred when sending the request to the server. (provider: TCP Provider, error: 0 - An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host.) I am using a direct connection from my Gridview to perform a huge database search. the stored procedure will take 10- 60 seconds to execute the query.
What the problem i am facing is when the sp takes long time (more than 1 minutes), then when i try any other operation like calling another sp frm another page, i am getting the above specified error.
I am new to SQL 2005. I have one issue and it is as follows:
I write a simple query and run it; it works fine.
Now I break the network connection and run the query; in this case it runs fine.
But when I reconnect the network and run the query, then I get an error as follows:
"A transport-level error has occurred when sending the request to the server. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 0 - An unexpected network error occurred.) "
Every thing is local here. So how the network issue comes here?
I've tried to search on the web for a solution for this error but i didn't find any working solutions for this problem. We have 2 servers. The first one is the server we use to develop our ASP.NET 2 application. On this server we don't have this error. On the other server (use by our client) we have this error sometime and i don't know why. Both servers have the same configuration and both application have the same web.config file.
I've tried to add a try-catch and retry the query when the error occured. This seems to be working but we don't want to have to change all our connections and since we don't have this problem on the other server we want to find the source of the problem.
Is it safe to backup while the database is running 1000 transaction/sec.? If yes - why should I buy Veritas Backup Exec Server Edition and Veritas Backup Exec Online Backup Pack ?
Hi everybody. One of department want to place db application from one server somewhere else on corparation network for 3 month period. Problem is they want to keep it with max security. Company does not want set up another server , so we want to create another Instance and place database on it. 1. Is safe to keep 2 instances on same server ? 2. How remove access to this instance from members of local and domain admin role(If we deny acces to BuildInAdministrators how it is going to affect security?) Thank you
If I execute multiple SqlCommands in a single .aspx, using a single SqlConnection, are all the commands part of the same transaction?
That is, if I say: cmd1.CommandText = "UPDATE foo SET myVal = myVal - 1" cmd2.CommandText = "SELECT myVal FROM foo"
cmd1.Connection = myConn cmd2.Connection = myConn
myConn.Open()
cmd1.ExecuteNonQuery() ' decrement myVal intResult = CInt(cmd2.ExecuteScalar()) ' select value of myVal
myConn.Close()
Do the UPDATE and the SELECT happen in the same transaction, or is it possible that someone else would have changed the value of myVal between these two calls?
Hi all, We are getting "New request is not allowed to start because it should come with valid transaction descriptor" when using transactions against SQL 2005. As I understand it, it's a bug that occurs after some statement has terminated against the database; see http://lab.msdn.microsoft.com/productfeedback/ViewWorkaround.aspx?FeedbackID=FDBK46530#1
Now, I wonder if there is a hotfix coming soon on this?
I need to send multiple emails to recipients one at a time what is the best way to do this?for example i do a select statement to get 5 email addresses, now i need to be able to fire off an email with verbiage to each one of them separately. The reason they have to be separate is in the verbiage i need to have there name in the 'Dear Jondoe1,' Here is my second dilemma. How would you insert a name in the verbiage for each email?
Can anyone outline some best practices for sending the same message out to multiple servers? What is the easiest way to do this?
Currently, I have a message sent from Server A to Server B, which is fired by a table insert, update, delete trigger.
The goal is to keep this table synchronized on many remote servers. It sounds like a tedious exercise to deploy the SSB messages, queues, services, etc to 20+ more sites! I am hoping there is a shortcut of some kind.
We're looking to send messages to an SSB Queue (our 'Notification' queue) that contains multiple values.. like Message #1: 20,1 to indicate Record #20, send Notification #1.. the reason for this is we have lots of different types of records in our database, and based on certain conditions, we would like to send different notices regarding these various record types.
What is the best format to send mesages like this? We thought about sending TABLE vars.. what other options are there?
Any ideas on how I can send multiple values from a listbox to a stored procedure? right now I have a ListBox Control called lbCategory, and I want to pass multiple selected items to a stored procedure. <asp:SqlDataSource ID="dsFS" runat="server" ConnectionString="someConnectionString" SelectCommand="usp_FS" SelectCommandType="StoredProcedure"> <SelectParameters> <asp:ControlParameter ControlID="lbCategory" DefaultValue="%" Name="category" PropertyName="SelectedValue" type="String" /> </SelectParameters> </asp:SqlDataSource>
fetch next from emailCursor into @Name,@info, @Recipients,@MyMessage
end close emailCursor deallocate emailCursor
Currently I have two users in my table that I want to send email to, but when the stored procedure runs I got two emails for the last user in the table instead one for each user.
I want the below sql code to force a error if it falls on a saturday or sunday, and there are no rows in the OrderTrans table for the previous day (TransDate) but not sure how to do multiple if statements.
SET ANSI_NULLS ON GO
SET QUOTED_IDENTIFIER ON GO
CREATE TABLE [dbo].[OrderTrans]( [OrderId] [int] NOT NULL,
I get this error message when I try to connect to Reporting Services via the Management Studio.
I can see my machine listed in the Server Name > Browse For More > Local Servers dialogue. But no luck,
Ive tried:
Servername: localhost Servername: DED1774 (the machine name) Servername: localhost/reportserver Servername: DED1774/reportserver Servername: http://ded1774/reportserver (from the rsreportserver.config file
<UrlRoot>http://ded1774/reportserver</UrlRoot>)
I've Googled the error message and found postings for solutions, but none of these helped. Can anyone suggest some simple steps I can take to try to find the issue and get the connection working?
I am getting an exception. And i don't know whether this exception is from the C# coding or SQL SERVER."Cannot roll back InsertRxs. No transaction or savepoint of that name was found.Transaction count after EXECUTE indicates a mismatching number of BEGIN and COMMIT statements. Previous count = 0, current count = 1.A transaction that was started in a MARS batch is still active at the end of the batch. The transaction is rolled back."
I am writing a fairly complex data automation procedure that basically uses about 5 stored procedures and some additional sql from C# to populate a database. i would like to utilize transactions in C# and sql to help me if something goes wrong. My question is, do i have to maintain the same connection in order to have one transaction for all my Commands. right now i do things like connection.Open();Command.ExecuteNonQuery(); connection.Close(); connection.Open();Command2.ExecuteNonQuery(); connection.Close(); i think i have to keep the same connection open for the duration of all my commands in order to utilize transactions, is this correct? thanks, mcm
Is there a way to execute multiple SQL statements within SQL Server? I'm triyng to write a sql statement that will delete from three tables. I need at least two sql statements to delete from these three tables. Can this be done?
how can take codes below and put them into one store procedure to supplie a gridview. also i will like to define the row name on the left like i did to the column on the top using the 'AS' Code1.... SELECT SUM(CASE WHEN Month = 'January' THEN 1 ELSE 0 END) AS January, SUM(CASE WHEN Month = 'February' THEN 1 ELSE 0 END) AS February, SUM(CASE WHEN Month = 'March' THEN 1 ELSE 0 END) AS March, SUM(CASE WHEN Month = 'April' THEN 1 ELSE 0 END) AS April, SUM(CASE WHEN Month = 'May' THEN 1 ELSE 0 END) AS May, SUM(CASE WHEN Month = 'June' THEN 1 ELSE 0 END) AS June, SUM(CASE WHEN Month = 'July' THEN 1 ELSE 0 END) AS July, SUM(CASE WHEN Month = 'August' THEN 1 ELSE 0 END) AS August, SUM(CASE WHEN Month = 'September' THEN 1 ELSE 0 END) AS September, SUM(CASE WHEN Month = 'October' THEN 1 ELSE 0 END) AS October, SUM(CASE WHEN Month = 'November' THEN 1 ELSE 0 END) AS November, SUM(CASE WHEN Month = 'December' THEN 1 ELSE 0 END) AS December, SUM(CASE WHEN site_descr = 'SITE1' THEN 1 ELSE 0 END) AS AllTotal FROM dbo.V_results WHERE (site_descr = 'SITE1')
Code2.....
SELECT SUM(CASE WHEN Month = 'January' THEN 1 ELSE 0 END) AS January, SUM(CASE WHEN Month = 'February' THEN 1 ELSE 0 END) AS February, SUM(CASE WHEN Month = 'March' THEN 1 ELSE 0 END) AS March, SUM(CASE WHEN Month = 'April' THEN 1 ELSE 0 END) AS April, SUM(CASE WHEN Month = 'May' THEN 1 ELSE 0 END) AS May, SUM(CASE WHEN Month = 'June' THEN 1 ELSE 0 END) AS June, SUM(CASE WHEN Month = 'July' THEN 1 ELSE 0 END) AS July, SUM(CASE WHEN Month = 'August' THEN 1 ELSE 0 END) AS August, SUM(CASE WHEN Month = 'September' THEN 1 ELSE 0 END) AS September, SUM(CASE WHEN Month = 'October' THEN 1 ELSE 0 END) AS October, SUM(CASE WHEN Month = 'November' THEN 1 ELSE 0 END) AS November, SUM(CASE WHEN Month = 'December' THEN 1 ELSE 0 END) AS December, SUM(CASE WHEN site_descr = 'SITE2' THEN 1 ELSE 0 END) AS AllTotal FROM dbo.V_results WHERE (site_descr = 'SITE2')
Hi guys and gals, I am trying to create a select statement that will return an INT that I will later have to use in another select statement. I have the following code, however, I keep getting an error that says: 'Error116: Only one expression can be specified in the select list when the subquery is not introduced with EXISTS.' My Code is below: //Start of sql CREATE PROCEDURE ADMIN_GetSingleUsers( @userID int) AS DECLARE @userSQL intSET @userSQL = (SELECT User_ID, TITLE.TITLE AS TITLE, Cast(Users.Active as varchar(50)) as Active, Cast(Users.Approved as varchar(50)) as Approved, Users.Unit_ID As usersUnitID, * From TITLE, Users WHERE User_ID = @userID AND TITLE.TITLE_ID = Users.Title_ID ) Select Unit_ID, Parent_ID, Unit_Name from UNITS WHERE Unit_ID = @userSQL //End of sql Can you point to what I am doing wrong? Thanks in advance!
This query brings back 2 rows for each record, one for each case statement. How can I change this to bring in the contsupp.notes for both types of data? Or could it be fixed in the joins?
select contact1.accountno, contact1.key5 as "Ch#", contact2.uexpsort as "Sort", contact1.company as "Church", contact1.contact as "Editor", contact1.phone1 as "Phone", contact2.uemerg as "Emergency", contact1.Address1 as "Address", contact1.city as "City", contact1.state as "State", contact1.zip as "Zip", contact2.ubulletnqt as "Qty", contact2.ubullcolor as "BullColor", contact2.ubarcode as "Barcode", contact2.udelivery as "Delivery", contact2.uoutputdev as "OutputDev", contact2.utimedeliv as "Time", contact2.ucolor as "DelivColor", contact2.ucollated as "Collated", contact2.ustapled as "Stapled", case when contsupp.contsupref = 'Delivery Notes' then contsupp.notes end as "Deliverynotes", case when contsupp.contsupref = 'Cover Change Slip' then contsupp.notes end as "CoverChangeSlip"
from Contact1 inner join contact2 on Contact1.Accountno = Contact2.Accountno inner join contsupp on Contact1.Accountno=Contsupp.Accountno where contact1.key5 not like '' and contsupp.contsupref='Delivery Notes' or contsupp.contsupref ='Cover Change Slip' order by contact1.key5
I have written one CTE (common table expression) and trying to use same CTE with three seperate UPDATE statements which gives me error saying "Invalid Object name" (it works fine when I try to use with 1 update statement (any one from three update statements)
Isnt it possible that I can use 1 CTE with mutiple update statements?
Does anyone know how to execute more than one MDX statement in a single report? For example, If you wanted to create a session set, run some mdx with the set included, then drop the session set. In Management studio the mdx works perfectly if you separate the individual mdx statements with GO. I tried using semicolons as mdx statement terminators and this didn't work either.
Reporting Services does something between when the report begins it's execution and the time the MDX is submitted to AS. And running a trace to see exactly what is passed in doesn't work either - the only message displayed is the same error message as what is passed back to RS. (I ran a trace with all events selected).
I'm hoping someone out there has a creative solution for my scenario. I have the report code below. I want to create a parameter that allows the user to select which where statement to use in the report. Then I want to use the corresponding where description below ( ex: @WHEREDESC1 ) in my header which will describe (in laymen's terms) which parameter was chosen and what is being reported on.
Has anyone achieved this or have an idea how it may be done?
I am not even sure if this is possible but I want to be able to excute several statements (or SPs) at once from inside a SPs (or any other method).
What I am doing is a I am taking data from a single column, multiple rows and making it into one row (i.e. data1 + data2 + data3....) But I am doing this to a total of 2.1 million individual rows and the result will be about 204k rows.... what I have written is basically a nested loop and it works fine but very slow... slow as in it has been running for 24 hours now and it is about 60% done... I need this to finish in under 36 hours preferably...
If I could handle more than one set of data at once (there will be no duplicates) I could speed up the process by how ever many I feel like working with...
So is there a way to execute a statement (sp or function) and go to the next statement without waiting for the first to finish??
I'm all of a sudden getting this error on a Stored Procedure that has not been touched since it was created.
Msg 266, Level 16, State 2, Procedure usp_ArchivexactControlPoint, Line 0 Transaction count after EXECUTE indicates a mismatching number of BEGIN and COMMIT statements. Previous count = 0, current count = 1.

I was wondering if it's possible to have a stored procedure that has two select statements which you can combine as a single result set. For instance:select name, age, titlefrom tableaselect name, age, titlefrom tablebCould you combine these queries into a single result set?
I am almost sure I can update variables columns in one select/case type statement, but having problems working out the syntax.
I have a table with transactions - with tran types as the key.
in this example, types = A,B,C ,D.
in this first example I am updating the sum of QTY to value t_A based on tran types =A.
can I perform sub query/case to update with the same where clause but for types B,C and D?? I also have to insert for specific lot numbers each sum values.
Create table #t_reconcile( t_lot_number int not null, t_A float, t_B float, t_C float, t_D float)
insert #t_reconcile
select t.lot_number, sum(t.qty) from i , t where i._id = t.event_id i.transaction_type = 'A' group by t.lot_number order by t.lot_number
