My group is working on a project for school and neither of us have much experience with SQL or ASP. We are pretty much just writing an SQL query to get the data in a certain date range and using ASP to write the tables with the data in it.
Our problem is the SQL database has separate fields for date and time. There is nothing we can do about this because the VB.NET program that populates the tables automatically does this. We can't figure out how to do the BETWEEN statement when they are separate fields. We can do it for a date range and it works fine. An example of what we want to do is show the data from 11:00 am on 04/01/2008 until 4:00pm 04/03/2008.
Does anyone have any idea what we can do? I really want to learn this but it's frustrating because we can't seem to get much help at school.
I have a table which has fields called defid, datavalue, pid etc. I have to create a new table which should have fields: CustID, datavalue[SocSec]{note:this is the value in d.datavalue when defid is 1004), datavalue[FirstName]{note: this is the value in d.datavalue when defid is 1006}, datavalue[LastName]{note: this is the value in d.datavalue when defid is 1007}, [FullName] {note: this is the value I should get by joining the datavalues (lastname and firstname) when defifis 1006 and 1007) ie. ex: FirstNameLastName.
COULD ANYONE PLEASE HELP ME ON THIS. DATA QUERY is as follows: Thank you in advance.
SELECT DISTINCT c.CustID, d.datavalue, f.name FROM dbo.Customers c INNER JOIN dbo.Date7 d ON d.pid = c.root INNER JOIN dbo.fielddisc f ON f.defid = d.defid WHERE c.separatedate BETWEEN @StartDate AND @EndDate AND c.DateTab = 7 AND d.defid IN (1004, 1006, 1007, 1009) AND c.CustID = 10 AND c.root = 8472 ORDER BY c.root
i have two columns in a "release" table that i concatenate on my aspx page into one value for my dropdown list. for example, my database columns might look likeMajor: 3 | 3 | 4 | 4 | 5Minor: 1 | 2 | 1 | 2 | 1and my drop down list text like3.1 | 3.2 | 4.1 | 4.2 | 5.1my question comes when trying to take the drop down list's selected value and splitting it back into two fields so that i can use it for another query. how can i split my "major" and "minor" version numbers back up so that i can run a query similar to:SELECT * FROM [Version] WHERE (([Major] = @Major) AND ([Minor] = @Minor))but only having the one parameter of: <asp:ControlParameter ControlID="ddlVersion" Name="Version" PropertyName="Text" Type="String" /> where the selected value has a string of "<major>.<minor>" (where the numbers are separated by a period)?
I am using aloha POS and they have the date for every check in separate fields and now I want to calculate the total time for the checks but unable to get the how of it..
The date is DOB and it's datetime but I just need to extra the getdate() from it.The open time is OPENHOUR and OPENMINThe close time is CLOSEHOUR and CLOSEMIN
so basically the open time for the check will be the DATE FROM DOB + OPENHOUR + OPENMIN
And the close time will be DATE FROM DOB + CLOSEHOUR + CLOSEMIN
I've a DateTime field in a table and I want to separate it into two fields in an SQL Server 2005 view one for Date and the other for Time so What is the function I can use to do this process?
Good morning.I am importing an XLS file into one of my tables. The fields are:Date Id Time IO12/22/2006 2 12:48:45 PM 912/22/2006 16 5:40:55 AM 112/22/2006 16 12:03:59 PM 2When I do the import, I get the following:Date Id Time IO12/22/2006 12:00:00AM 2 12/30/1899 12:48:45 PM 212/22/2006 12:00:00AM 16 12/30/1899 5:40:55 AM 112/22/2006 12:00:00AM 16 12/30/1899 12:03:59 PM 2Here are my doubts:1. Would it be better to combine the Date & Time fields into onecolumn? If so, how?2. What issues or problems might I have when I program SQL reports, ifI leave the fields as they are?Any comments or suggestions will be very much welcomed.Cheers mates.
I am importing an XLS file into one of my tables. The fields are:

Ok, I have three tables worth of data. They basically hold data that is keyed into a system for potential clients and include stuff like names, weights, classes of weight, addresses etc.
The main table that holds data on a record by record basis is set up like this:
This table contains the batches (or collections of the data above). Basically a collection of bills is called a batch, so if a batch has 18 bills in it, those 18 bills are keyed and assigned the prospect_batch_id above.
This is the table that contains the various weights and classes for the individual records in the first table (tbl_prospect):
Tbl_prospect_clwt Prospect_clwt_id (pk, unique) Prospect_id(unique) Class weight
Generally without worrying about the multiple classes and weights it's easy to just join all three tables and pull the fields I need, but now that I have to get multiple classes and weights I have no clue how to actually grab them and delimit them with a comma.
I think I'm only going to be working on tbl_prospect and tbl_prospect_clwt, and if I put a filter in place for the prospect_batch_id I can see the individual record in tbl_prospect as well as the multiple classes and weights in the clwt table, as seen here:
So record 18 of that batch is comprised of two shipments, one that is class 100/weight 1623 and one that is class 70/weight 438, just not sure how to actually grab both of those for each record and delimit them.
Hi! Need help with this one: I have a column with a string composed by several data. After using REPLACE several times, I get something like the data below, which has (in most of cases) a value and a date.
378 9/05
388 9/05
4/05
1/06 606
1/06 646
76 5/05
100 1/05
118 8/05
129 8/05
9/05 342
05/3 123
1/07
4/06 164 The problem is that I need to get each value alone (to separate columns), in example: Value Date 378 09/2005 388 09/2005 0 04/2005 ... 606 01/2006
and so on... In addittion you can see that sometimes the Value come first or alone, and sometimes the Date come first or alone.
I will appreciate any good ideas, Thanks in advance, Aldo.
I am trying to add 2 separate columns from separate tables i.e column1 should be added to column 2 when inserted and I want to use a trigger but i don't know the syntax to use...
I'm working on a database for a financial client and part of what i need to do is calculate a value from two separate rows in the same table and insert the result in the same table as a new row. I have a way of doing so but i consider it to be extremely inelegant and i'm hoping there's a better way of doing it. A description of the existing database schema (which i have control over) will help in explaining the problem:
id metric_id metric_type_id metric_name 1 80 2 Fiscal Enterprise Value Historic Year 1 2 81 2 Fiscal Enterprise Value Current Fiscal Year 3 82 2 Fiscal Enterprise value Forward Fiscal year 1 4 83 2 Fiscal Enterprise Value Forward Fiscal Year 2 5 101 3 Calendar Enterprise value Historic Year 1 6 102 3 Calendar Enterprise Value Current Fiscal Year 5 103 3 Calendar Enterprise value Forward Year 1 6 104 3 Calendar Enterprise Value Forward Year 2
Table Name: metric_type_details
id metric_type_id metric_type_name 1 1 Raw 2 2 Fiscal 3 3 Calendar 4 4 Calculated
The problem scenario is the following: Because a certain number of the securities have a fiscal year end that is different to the calendar end in addition to having fiscal data (such as fiscal enterprise value and fiscal earnings etc...) for each security i also need to store calendarised data. What this means is that if security with security_id = 3 has a fiscal year end of October then using rows with ids = 1, 2, 3 and 4 from the metrics_ladder table i need to calculate metrics with metric_id = 83, 84, 85 and 86 (as described in the metric_details table) and insert the following 4 new records into metrics_ladder:
Metric with metric_id = 101 (Calendar Enterprise value Historic Year 1) will be calculated by taking 10/12 of the value for metric_id 80 plus 2/12 of the value for metric_id 81.
Similarly, metric_id 102 will be equal to 10/12 of the value for metric_id 81 plus 2/12 of the value for metric_id 82,
metric_id 103 will be equal to 10/12 of the value for metric_id 82 plus 2/12 of the value for metric_id 83 and finally
metric_id 104 will be NULL (determined by business requirements as there is no data for forward year 3 to use).
As i could think of no better way of doing this (and hence the reason for this thread) I am currently achieving this by pivoting the relevant data from the metrics_ladder so that the required data for each security is in one row, storing the result in a new column then unpivoting again to store the result in the metrics_ladder table. So the above data in nmetrics_ladder becomes:
-- Dummy year variable to make it easier to use MONTH() function -- to convert 3 letter month to number. i.e. JAN -> 1, DEC -> 12 etc... DECLARE @DUMMY_YEAR VARCHAR(4) SET @DUMMY_YEAR = 1900;
with temp(security_id, metric_id, value) as ( select ml.security_id, ml.metric_id, ml.value from metrics_ladder ml where ml.metric_id in (80,81,82,83,84,85,86,87,88,etc...) -- only consider securities with fiscal year end not equal to december and ml.security_id in (select security_id from company_details where fiscal_year_end <> 'dec') ) insert into @calendar_averages select temppivot.security_id -- Net Income ,(CONVERT(DECIMAL, MONTH(cd.fiscal_year_end + @DUMMY_YEAR))/12*[80]) +((12 - CONVERT(DECIMAL, MONTH(cd.fiscal_year_end + @DUMMY_YEAR)))/12*[81]) as [101] ,(CONVERT(DECIMAL, MONTH(cd.fiscal_year_end + @DUMMY_YEAR))/12*[81]) +((12 - CONVERT(DECIMAL, MONTH(cd.fiscal_year_end + @DUMMY_YEAR)))/12*[82]) as [102] ,(CONVERT(DECIMAL, MONTH(cd.fiscal_year_end + @DUMMY_YEAR))/12*[82]) +((12 - CONVERT(DECIMAL, MONTH(cd.fiscal_year_end + @DUMMY_YEAR)))/12*[83]) as [103] ,NULL as [104] -- Share Holders Equity ,(CONVERT(DECIMAL, MONTH(cd.fiscal_year_end + @DUMMY_YEAR))/12*[84]) +((12 - CONVERT(DECIMAL, MONTH(cd.fiscal_year_end + @DUMMY_YEAR)))/12*[85]) as [105] ,(CONVERT(DECIMAL, MONTH(cd.fiscal_year_end + @DUMMY_YEAR))/12*[85]) +((12 - CONVERT(DECIMAL, MONTH(cd.fiscal_year_end + @DUMMY_YEAR)))/12*[86]) as [106] ,(CONVERT(DECIMAL, MONTH(cd.fiscal_year_end + @DUMMY_YEAR))/12*[86]) +((12 - CONVERT(DECIMAL, MONTH(cd.fiscal_year_end + @DUMMY_YEAR)))/12*[87]) as [107] ,NULL as [108] -- Capex -- Sales -- Accounts payable etc... .. .. from temp pivot ( sum(value) for metric_id in ([80],[81],[82],[83],[84],[85],[86],[87],[88],etc...) ) as temppivot inner join company_details cd on temppivot.security_id = cd.security_id
********* END SQL *********
The result then needs to be unpivoted and stored in metrics_ladder.
And FINALLY, the question! Is there a more elegant way of achieving this??? I have complete control over the database schema so if creating mapping tables or anything along those lines would help it is possible. Also, is SQL not really suited for such operations and would it therefore be better done in C#/VB.NET.
I have a table (Not my own, cannot be changed) that has this structure:
Table1 ID, field, data ----------------------- 1, fname, john 1, lname, doe 1, address, 123 any st 2, fname, jack 2, lname, sprat 2 address, 345 some st 2, phone, 321-555-1234
I want this:
Table2 ID, fname, lname, address, phone -------------------------------------------------- 1, john, doe, 123 any st,, 2, jack, sprat, 345 some st, 321-555-1234
Notes: This query will need to run on a regular schedule. There are over 100 fields, I don't want to do this 100 times:
I have a query that produces seperate rows for people, but I want to combine them into one place. I tried doing this in SQL but apparently it's not very easy in SQL Server. You need to loop through a table using cursors. I'm not quite that advanced with SQL Server and was wondering if there might be an easier way just using SSRS.
In other words I have a table as such:
1 John Smith 2 Jane Doe 3 Matthew Jones
And I'd like to create one textbox that contains the following:
Hi, how do i do a select statement with asp.net to return a record if a field is null. I have the following code: SqlCommand cmd = new SqlCommand("SELECT * FROM Categories WHERE ParentId = @ParentId", cn);.Parameters.Add("@ParentId", SqlDbType.Int).Value = parentId != null ? (object) parentId : DBNull.Value;cn.Open(); The variable parentId is a nullable int. However when i pass in a null value it doesn't return anything even though there are records in the database that have a null value for the ParentId field. Appreciate if someone could tell me what i am doing wrong. Thanks
I have three tables X,Y,Z. Table 'Y' is having foreign key constraints on tables 'X' and 'Z' (which happen to be primary key tables). I would like to run a query in which I can retrieve rows from Table 'X' only if the matching rows in Table 'Y' have "ALL" their matching rows available in a simple query being run on Table "Z". The "All" part is very important.
For more clarification, let me give you an example. Table "X" is equivalent to a mathematical "Equation" table which consists of an equation made up of several "Fields". These fields are stored in Table "Z". Table "Y" contains the primary keys from Tables "X" and "Z". i.e. Table "Y" determines what fields are required for an equation to be complete.
I am having a query "Q" on Table "Z" (Fields table) which returns me a bunch of Fields. Now, on the basis of these fields, I want to retrieve only those Equations (Table "X") which have "ALL" their required Fields present in the bunch retrieved by the Query "Q".
I hope I am clear enough. Does anyone have any solutions???
Hello all,my first post here...hope it goes well. I'm currently working onstored procedure where I translated some reporting language into T-SQLThe logic:I have a group of tables containing important values for calculation.I run various sum calculations on various fields in order to retrievecost calculations ...etc.1) There is a select statement which gathers all the "records" whichneed calculations.ex: select distinct Office from Offices where OfficeDesignation ='WE' or OfficeDesignation = 'BE...etc.As a result I get a list of lets say 5 offices which need to becalculated!2) A calculation select statement is then run on a loop for each ofthe returned 5 offices (@OfficeName cursor used here!) found above.Anexample can be like this(* note that @WriteOff is a variable storing the result):"select @WriteOff = sum(linecost * (-1))From Invtrans , InventoryWhere ( transtype in ('blah', 'blah' , 'blah' ) )and ( storeloc = @OfficeName )and ( Invtrans.linecost <= 0 )and ( Inventory.location = Invtrans.storeloc )and ( Inventory.itemnum = Invtrans.itemnum )"...etcThis sample statement returns a value and is passed to the variable@WriteOff (for each of the 5 offices mentioned in step 1). This is donearound 9 times for each loop! (9 calculations)3) At the end of each loop (or each office), we do an insert statementto a table in the database.
Our division has approximately 300 employees. We have an annual shift bid where seniority is calculated using Date of Hire. If 2 or more employees share the same Date of Hire then we fall back to Date of Application. Currently the SSRS report does a very simple query and shows all the employees in order of their Date of Hire. If they match then it sorts the matching Date of Hire entries alphabetically by the employee name. It then becomes the task of the scheduler to locatethe entries with the same Date of Hire and manually look up the employees' dates of applications then sort them accordingly and re-write the report.
Goal: Convert the manual process into an automatic process by modifying the current SSRS report. Data: The dataset is "DivDir" which contains the following fields: "EmpName", "DofHire", & "AppDate".
EmpName DofHire AppDate Adam ...... 12/2/1996 11/15/1996 Bob ..... .... 1/16/1997 12/27/1996 Charlie ....... 1/16/1997 12/12/1996 Dan ...... ... 4/11/2001 3/22/2001
In the above example I want the SSRS report to list the employees in this order: Adam, Charlie, Bob, Dan.How do I do this programmatically using SSRS?
Setup: Windows Server 2003 R2 - Enterprise - SP2 - 32 Bit SQL Server 2014 Express - 32 Bit
Problem: I have a calculated field on a PO table that adds up item prices on an Item table to get the total PO value. This works as expected until there are at least 10 rows in the PO table. From the 10 row on the calculated field stops working and only shows 0.
I have experienced this before and it seems like calculated fields break on the 10th row of a table and onward.
My PO table CREATE TABLE [dbo].[PO]( [ID] [int] IDENTITY(1,1) NOT NULL, [Quote_Number] [varchar](max) NULL, [Customer] [varchar](max) NULL, [CustomerPO] [varchar](max) NULL, [PO_Received_Date] [datetime] NULL, [Total_PO_Value] [decimal](18, 2) NULL,
I am copying a simple table from a Sql Server 2005 database to an *.sdf mobile database.
I am brand new to SSIS and I am probably doing something wrong. But after executing the SSIS package all the rows and all the fields are NULL in the destination database. I put a datagrid viewer between the OLE DB Source and the Sql Server compact edition destination and I can see the real data which is obviously not ALL NULL.
Does anyone have a clue as to why it would be doing this?
I know I can do a JOIN(parameter, "some seperator") and it will build me a list/string of all the values in the multiselect parameter.
However, I want to do the same thing with all the occurances of a field in my result set (each row being an occurance).
For example say I have a form that is being printed which will pull in all the medications a patient is currently listed as having perscriptions for. I want to return all those values (say 8) and display them on a single line (or wrap onto additional lines as needed).
Something like: List of current perscriptions: Allegra, Allegra-D, Clariton, Nasalcort, Sudafed, Zantac
How can I accomplish this?
I was playing with the list box, but that only lets me repeat on a new line, I couldn't find any way to get it to repeate side by side (repeat left to right instead of top to bottom). I played with the orientation options, but that really just lets me adjust how multiple columns are displayed as best I can tell.
Could a custom function of some sort be written to take all the values and spit them out one by one into a comma seperated string?
I have just started using SQL Server reporting services and am stuck with creating subreports.
I have a added a sub report to the main report. When I right click on the sub report, go to properties -> Parameters, and click on the dropdown for Parameter Value, I see all Sum and Count fields but not the data fields.
For example, In the dropdownlist for the Parameter value, I see Sum(Fields!TASK_ID.Value, "AppTest"), Count(Fields!TASK_NAME.Value, "CammpTest") but not Fields!TASK_NAME.Value, Fields!TASK_ID.Value which are the fields retrieved from the dataset assigned to the subreport.
When I manually change the parameter value to Fields!TASK_ID.Value, and try to preview the report, I get Error: Subreport could not be shown. I have no idea what the underlying issue is but am guessing that it's because the field - Fields!TASK_ID.Value is not in the dropdown but am trying to link the main report and sub report with this field.
Am I missing something here? Any help is appreciated.
How can I create a Table whose one field will be 'tableid INT IDENTITY(1,1)' and other fields will be the fields from the table "ashu". can this be possible in SQL Server without explicitly writing the"ashu" table's fields name.
