Hi All,
I was wondering if anybody has the script to view the free disc space. Currently I am using xp_fixeddrives stored procedure, but it is undocumented and might not be supported in SQL Server 2005.
Thanks.
I am using the below script to get space alerts  and now i am interested in sending alerts  if for any drive space available is Less than 10% or 15%.. how to convert beelow code to find in %Â
Declare @Drives Varchar(20)
DECLARE @Spaces Varchar(50)
DECLARE @availableSpace FLOAT
DECLARE @alertMessage Varchar(4000)
DECLARE @RecipientsList  VARCHAR(4000);
CREATE TABLE #tbldiskSpace
[Code] ....
I have a stored proc that processes large amounts of data. I have used temp tables in this stored proc. After I drop these temp tables, it doesn't release the disc space and my hard drive runs out of space before the process ends. When I stop the sql service and restarts it, it releases the disc space. How can I force the release of disc space inside of my stored procedure?
View 6 Replies View RelatedI want to write a sql alert to notify me when my database is out of space.
So as not to duplicate any messages - has anyone seen threads on this subject?
If not, can anyone give ideas on how to create this script?
thanks in advance.
I just got my copy of Visual Studio 2008 Pro today, which includes SQL Server 2005 developer edition.
While installing SQL Server 2005 the menu says Disc 1 of 2, and it also displays a message saying this install will require both disc's. However I've only got 1 SQL Server disc (DVD).
The install completes fine, so I guess that its got all it needs but I'm just paranoid that theres a disc missing.
Should there be another disc? or is the installer just telling lies about needing another disc..
Thanks,
Martyn
I've googled everything about GUID, seems there is no good thing to say about it. Here's my scenario, a purchase order (PO) application:
We want to have a centralized database with remote sites connected to it
Some of the sites are without connection, they will have their own servers with scheduled replication to the centralized database.
The design is something like this:
Each PO will have many revisions
Each revision will have many PO line items
Each PO line item will have many Delivery Schedules
In the past i used int IDENTITY as transaction ID in revision and line item tables.
transaction ID in revision table is FK to line item table, and transaction ID line item table is FK to Delivery Schedules table.
This work well in standalone database.
Now that we need to merge replicates, int IDENTITY produced in remote DB will conflict with IDENTITY produced in central DB.
I'm thinking of using GUID to replace int IDENTITY.
Question:
How bad is my decision?
Can't GUID size indexing problem be solved with partitioning?
Can you suggest other alternatives to GUID, based on the above scenario?
Thanks in advance
I was wondering if anyone knew of some key error numbers that I should look for to fire alerts off of.
For example, ERROR 926 "Database cannot be opened. It has been marked SUSPECT by recovery. See the SQL Server error log for more information."
I am looking for some key error messages (Error Numbers) like the one above that are good to initially setup within SQL Server for alerting Administrators of potential issues.
Thanks,
Peter
Hello all,
I only have disc 1 of 2. Do I need Disc 2? What is in Disc 2?
Thanks
Maybe a dumb question, the standard alerts like Severity 24 and 25 that come when you install SQL Server, will these alerts be called by SQL Server itself if there is a problem. I was going to set up notifications for these but wasn't sure if it was worth the trouble.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am trying to centralize my alerts and events forwarding using this feature in SQL server 2000. I setup event forwading in every one of my satellite SQL servers, however I am not getting any events or notifications.
Anybody has worked on this or know of any good information on this topic.
I have two nodes in my windows cluster, and i have 5 SQL instances running there. Now i want to make sure that all instances are running on just one node. That is, if one instance fails and wants to start on the other node, all other instances must also failover. My idea was to use disc dependenies to achieve this, but i can just set a dependency on discs that belong to the same instance...

DESCRIPTION: The SQL Server performance counter 'Buffer cache hit ratio' (instance 'N/A') of object 'SQLServer:Buffer Manager' is now below the threshold of 90.00 (the current value is 1.00).
I have set up thresholds for time behind and I'm getting an event 32040 in the eventlog when the threshold has been exceeded. I have also set up a SQL Agent Alert with a email operator. However the alert is never generated (and no email sent). Shouldn't it be possible to alert an operator as described in http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/sql/2005/mirroringevents.mspx also???
The email profile is working and also setup on the SQL Agent, and the SQL Agent has been restarted (just in case that's necessary).
What did I miss? Any ideas?

I am generating a Report from Sql Data Source in Sql Server 2005 and viewing the Report in Report viewer control of Visual Studio 2005.
The data in the Data Source contains string with multiple spaces (for example €œ Test String €œ) but when they get rendered in Report viewer control, multiple spaces gets converted to single space €? Test String €œ.
I tried following solutions
1) Replacing spaces with €œ €?
2) Inserting <pre> tag before the string and </pre> tag after the string (Also tried <Pre> instead of <pre>)
But in all the cases result is same. The Report Viewer control is showing €œ €? instead of space and €œ<Pre>€? tag instead of preserving spaces.
Please provide me a solution so that spaces can be preserved in Report Viewer.
Hi.. I was doing a good maintenance on my DB and my trans log LDF keep growing until 30GB but my DB data file MDF is only 2GB. I found the two following method to reduce my log size.
Method 1: I used veritas to backup log file with truncate
Method 2: I used the shrink database option in Enterprises manager to shrink it (file chosen=log , use default option)
After doing that, I found my LDF log file is still about the same size=27GB but when I see clearly, from the shrink database windows, the log spaced used reduced to only 100MB, the allocation log space is still 27GB. Why? How to make the LDF smaller to be the around the same size as the space used 100MB?
This is driving me bananas. Can't find any info on this anywhere....SQL 2000 seems to replace double space with a single space when I seta varchar field to " " (2spaces), it only stores " " (1space). Whyon earth would microsoft do this? If I save 2 spaces - I WANT TO SEE2 SPACES!!!!Can anyone help? Is this a database setting? Is this due to usingvarchar?Any help appreciated.Colin Hale

3700 MB allocated but only 100 MB used and 3600 MB are free !

file growth by percent = 5%
maximum file size - restrict filegrowth = 3700 MB (we can't reduce it !)

We are using SQL Server 2008 as our database and use Access as a GUI. I am looking to create a form in Access where employees can access their time card and request changes from management. I want to use the format from the attached screen shot for the form. I pretty much know how to do it all, the only point of complication is trying to figure out the easiest way to get the transaction punch record data on employee_punch_record into a format where I can easily populate the form in the horizontal format you see in the screen shot.
I am not super strong in SQL, but figure I can do it using a formatting table of some sort. quick and easy way to move transaction records into a more horizontally oriented record?
I wanted to know how we can handle Time Zones and Daylight Savings Time in SQL Server 2000 as well as 2005.
Any pointers would be helpful.
