Seting Up Sql Server From Within My .NET Setup?
Jul 2, 2007
hi,
I've been reading quite a few articles on setup and deployment project on msdn. Also , i've checked articles on msdn about the sqlservr setup and how it can take command line args.
BUT , after i extract the sqlsetup on the target machine , how do i run my batch file that will send the right command line switches to the setup.
Also , (slightly off-topic =S sry) i dont want to just extract my database on to the target machine. Can i extract the schema of my database and then use sqlcmd to execute the script that would create the database somewhere? I do have to do this during my setup!!
Thanks so much

Hi
Im having some problems setting up sql server so that i can connect to it in my vb program over the internet.
Im using windows xp pro and have IIS installed and using sql server 2005 express SP2.
My setup is as follows:
from phonecable to router, from router to wireless access point and the wireless connects to my computer.
I have tried disabling the xp firewall, and in the sql server configurationi have set the port to 11001, which i have also opened in my router.
There should be a connection to the computer, cause i have succesfully set up an FTP server on a different port.
I have also enabled remote connections, both via TCP/IP and named pipes.
I have tried to use telnet on my IP adress with the port 11001, and it says that i cant create a connection..Are there other settings i should set to get this to work? This has been bugging me for a little while...

Hello
I have few question abaut report services:
1st
How to set on my reports date fromat dd,mm,yyyy
I use Date parametars and need to display it on my reports
what ever I try it is always mm,dd,yyyy.
2nd
Can I resize parametar box size on deployed report,
I use long stings for Label Field and when I open report in web browiser rables is shown but in small size and i need to use horizontal scrol bar to see all data for parametar.
3th
I use multi value parametar and I set the defalt values from Non-queired option, while I working in visual stoudio is OK when I preview report defolt values is OK, but when i deployed that on server which is on defrend machine default values do not working.
4th
Where I can check wich version of SQL2005 is working I think that
problem with multi default values is in difrent SP between my com and server whos hosts reports .
5th
How I can set some reports to it can bi acces anymausly
I want to set off password and username checking before opening report.
Thanks in advice
Best Regards !

every time we develop new dts and move it to production we have to MANUALY
modify data source.
I can submit data source as input parameter to dts and using global variable assign it connection data source.
Could it be done at run time ?
Example
if dts start on dev1 server all
connections points on dev server
if dts starts on prod server all
connection point on prod
Thank you

Hello,
A bit of a double question. We are setting up a new environment but this time we don't want to use the build-in replication. As we have a very changing environment these replications block us in modifying tables. (Was on W2K/Sql2000).
To avoid this we would write a softreplication, now we are running on W2003AS/Sql2005Ent, but when trying to run a transaction to an older server this error pops up. "The transaction manager has disabled its support for remote/network transactions".
I've found some articles on how to solve this but they all mention a buttin 'security config' on the MSDTC tab page of MyComp in CompServ. But i can't see that Button on a W2k.
Any suggestions ..
Or, 2nd question, is it still so that when a replication has been setup in 2005 that bthe table is unmodifiable ??

I am running a number of SQL instances on my PC. Within the network, I have think server with various System Center components. For compatibility reasons, some features of System Center 2012 R2 had to be delegated to different SQL databases. My question is, because there is now more than one IP address on my system, and each instance of SQL is assigned to its own IP, is there a way to setup DNS and SQL so the namespace points to the desired IP address? For Instance:
MSSQL2008 instance is set to run on = 11.12.13.1
MSSQL2012 is set to run on = 11.12.13.2
IN DNS:
A Record: Mike-PC = 11.12.13.1
A Record: Mike-PC = 11.12.13.2
If I want to use MSSQL2008 by specifying Mike-PC as the DNS name, how would I do that with 100% accuracy? If there is another way to get the job done, I am more than willing to approach this differently.

I have XP Pro SP2 with MDAC 2.8.1022. It had a problem so I tried to reinstall MDAC and got a Fatal Setup Error. This setup does not support installing on this operating system. I downloaded MDAC 2.8 1177 and get the same error.
I thought of uninstalling/reinstalling SP2, but this is a 2 month old Dell Latitude 610 with factory installed XP. There is no Windows Service Pack 2 option listed in the Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs.
There's some other strange things, so I wonder if they are related.
1) I have Paul set up as an administrator account. Some folders like MSSQL show that account with no permissions. I grant all the permissions to Paul for that folder. I come back later and the permissions are gone.
2) I deleted 20 files in Explorer, but 7 of them did not go away. I deleted those 7 again and they instatnly reappeared. I deleted those 7 again and then they finally went away.
3) I get a slow reaction time for things like Windows Explorer and opening and closing programs. This is suprising since it has 2 gig of RAM and 2.3 Gig processor. Could it be a memory handling problem that's causing OS problems. Probably, the memory didn't handle the OS installation well and the whole system is compromised now.

We're doing upgrades from SQL 2008 R2 to SQL 2014. This is blocked due to RS is installed but not configured. Our desired action is to uninstall RS and proceed with the upgrade. But when setuparp.exe is raised, it does not list all the features on the 'Select Features' page. In fact, it only lists the last 2 shared features (SQ Client Connectivity SDK and Microsoft Sync Framework). However, all items appear to be listed on the 'Select Instance' page including RS. I've seen this issue on 2 of our SQL 2008 R2 Servers already.

I'm trying to install SQL Server Management studio 2012 on my Windows 7 (x64) standalone laptop. When I click "New SQL stand-alone installation..." it runs a Setup Support Rules check and always fails "Setup Account Privileges". I've looked into the error and I keep getting that I need to change security rules but I don't have that option in window 7. How do I get around this without having to resort to a computer running Windows Server?
I have Visual Studio 2013 premium installed along with Localdb v11. I just want to connect and manage my database engine through SSMS when developing any application.

I run setup using GUI. It upgrades all components of the existing installation w/out any problems except the last component. That is, it proceeds with the installation of SQL Server Database Serices and at the end fails to shut down the SQL Server and aborts the installation reporting the following:
"Service 'Computer_NameSQLEXPRESS' could not be stopped. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to stop system services. The error code is (16386)".
I am running Windows XP SP2 with both .NET 2.0 and .NET 3.0 installed on it. I am logged in as a system administrator.
The most puzzling to me things are:
- the setup starts AND STOPS w/out any problems SQL Server Reporting Services and SQL Server VSS Writer (thus finding enough privileges for both).
- the setup starts the SQL Server w/out any problems (thus it finds enough privileges to START A SYSTEM SERVICE) and then fails as described above 'lucking privileges".
During installation before failing the setup displays following:
"Run as Normal User. RANU instance Shutdwon in progress: MSSQL$SQLEXPRESS". The "normal user" puzzles me too, unless the SQL Server itself is meant here.
Any suggestions would be appreciated. I can provide the installation log file as well.
Thanks.

My uncle runs a small networking company and has extra licenses for Windows 2003 Server as well as SQL Server 2000. Since I just graduated from college and have started working as a database programmer (for a different company) I'd like to setup a small server at home to learn more about SQL (as well as networking, but SQL is my primary concern). I know I can setup SQL Server 2000 on my main PC, but I'd still like to set everything up in a server environment.
So, what I'm wondering is if any books (or web sites?) exist that walk you through setting up Windows 2003 Server and SQL Server 2000. I've actually set these up before (it's not very complicated) but I'm not sure if I did it the "correct" way.
Ideally if any books exist on O'Reilly's Safari Bookshelf that would be even better.
Thanks in advance,
John

SQL Server 2005 SP2 Replication
I am having problems installing the SQL Server Compact Server Tools on my
Vista laptop to allow me to connect my Mobile Device running SQL Server
Compact directly to my SQL Server 2005 database through IIS.
I have done this successfully with an XP machine so I'm not sure if it is
Vista problem or not.
I have installed SQL Server 2005 SP2. When I try to install the replication
server tools (Sqlce30setupen.msi), in "System Configuration Check" window I get a failure on "SQL Server requirement" that says: "You must first install the Replication Components for SQL Server 2000 SP 3a
or higher or the SQL Server 2005 Replication Components" and the client components are full instaled in my computer.
I need help for detect and correct the problem.

Hello Experts,
I have been unable to install SQL Express 2005 Server on my Windows 2003 Server (with SP2 installed). I keep getting an error message saying that Microsoft Windows Installer 3.1 is not installed.
So, I downloaded Microsoft Windows Installer 3.1 v2 (WindowsInstaller-KB893803-v2-x86.exe) but whenever I try to install it I get an error message saying that "the Service Pack version of this system is newer than the update you are applying" and that there is no need to install the update and it stops there.
Is there a workaround to this? How can I get Microsoft Windows Installer 3.1 installed? I tried going to the Windows Update site, I already have everything installed and I even started the Windows Installer service manually. Has anyone else experienced this?
How can I get SQL Server 2005 Express installed if not how can I install SQL Server 2000 on tihs machine? The only reason I am trying to install SQL Server 2005 is because wanted to try it so I uninstalled SQL Server 2000 now I can no longer install SQL Server 2000 again because it won't let me because of the SP2 patch.
Help! :(

Hello all,
I have 2 networked PC's both running vista ultimate
1st is Laptop and is running its own SQL Server at laptoplaptopSQL
2nd is Desktop and is running its own SQL Server at desktopdesktopSQL
Now both machines have seperate windows login accounts.
When I go SQL Server management studio I go to browse and each machine can see the other machines SQL Server, but when I go to login I get SQL Login falied for users" The user is not associaed with a trusted SQL server connection".
So I then go to logins new login and try to add my other pc's user account.
The problem I see is that when I go to search and then location it only shows its own PC's location and not the location of my other networked pc? So if I am on Desktop and in my theory want to add laptopuser to the desktop SQL Server logins I get:
"create failed for login laptopuser
An exception occurred while executing Transact SQL statement laptopuser is not a valid windows NT name. give the complete name
Not sure on where to go from here.
Any help would be great

Hi Everybody,
I was trying to install the SQL Server on my machine and I successfully did it because the server is running. I can get into the Enterprise Manager (without password) and I'm able to create new databases. Except, I can not log into those databases with the userid that I also created with full access. It must be somekind of security issue but I can not figure out what. The message says: "Unable to connect to server local - SQL server does not exist or access denied". If I look at my SQL service manager my server name is "NEWONE" , which is also my computer name. So, I'm not sure what's wrong. I tried to log in with the 'sa' account it doesn't work either.
I would appreciate any help you can give me.
Thank you,
Laszlo

We just bought another Box that will have the same thing on it with the idea if the 1st goes down, the new box is a 'hot' standby...of course a 'cold' standby will be ok too... I'm not fussy at this point. If you have info on both great.
I'm the SQL Srvr 7.0 DBA (my background is Oracle DBA). I've been doing alot of reading!!!
Can some provide the information I need or point me to someone I can contact?
Thanks

I had SQL Server 7 installed on my Windows 98 machine (desktop installation). I have installed another piece of software recently which has buggered SQL Server ! I uninstalled SQL Server and tried to re-install. Each time that the setup program tries to connect to the server the machine stops responding. I have tried this a number of times and have noticed that occasionally one of my dial up network connections fires up when the "Connecting to server..." message appears.
Can anyone advise/help?
