Problem With Merge Replication--with Snap Shot Agent
Sep 20, 2004i am having a problem with the merge replication.
has over 400 thousand records and is running on a hp server with a raid 5 configuration.
i am trying to create a merge replication on another server with the same configuration.
i am facing problems in 2 places.
firstly i created a push subscription and ran the snap shot agnt.
but the snap shot agent times out and expires .. as a result of which i am not able to create the initial snap shot on the subscribers end.
next i thought i would manualy create a snap shot
and so i backed up the dabase from the publisher and restores it on the subscription side.
now i tried to create a new subscription by chosing the option... the dabase alredy conists of the data base and schema
and i get a n error saying
"SQL Server Enterprise Manager encountered errors creating push subscriptions for the following Subscribers:
ICE: Error 20086: Publication '%s' does not support the nosync type because it contains a table that does not have a rowguidcol column
what do i do to solve this problem....
please try and give me a solution to solve either ways.

I have tried all the suggested fixes and nothing is working.
I unstalled and reinstalled SQL 2000
I unregistered and reregistered sqlmmc.dll successfully, but the error still exists.
When I checked the registry, I do not see an entry for Microsoft SQL .
What should I do know?
Is my last resort to rebuild the server?

Feb 1, 2008This is very old problem but I couldn't able to solve the following problem with the solution given for this.I had SQL 2000 installed, and later installed SQL 2005 with Visual Studio 2005. Now my enterprise manager tool no longer works in the MMC. I am not sure whether it is related to the SQL 2005 install or not.
The error I get is the :
MMC Couldnot create snap in
I reinstalled SQL 2000 enterprise manager, but it still gives the same error. Query Analyzer and other SQL utilities still work fine, as do other MMC items such as Biztalk Admin, Component Services, etc.
I tried to solve this by MMC and try to add SQL Server Enterprise manager,but I couldn't find Enterprise manager in the list.
I really appreciate if anybody can help me.

Nov 11, 2006After running virus cleaning software on my HD, I suddenly find my Enterprise Manager snap-in missing and fail to initialize. Is the MMC erased or damaged? What should I do? Reinstall SQL Server 2000 or repair it? Please advise. Thanks.

I have a couple of queries that i run on my server but i need to automate them now. I have created a new job in the sql agent jobs and set up my steps accordingly.
My queries all run in a query window without trouble and they also parse in the command window of the sql agen job-step screen. When I run them manually, it fails with the first query moaning about my variables etc etc.
Is there some sort of limitation that i am not aware of or something?

Here is the following mind-numbing problem I have (and wished I did not have to experience)
A set of 2 SSIS packages is scheduled to run in a sql server agent job on the same server. Both packages use an environment variable that point to a package configuration file. In this file there are 2 connections, one to a sql server with a sql server user id and passwordn, another to an AS400 DB2. Both packages are deployed on the same server in SSIS server under MSDB sql storage, with package protection level set to 'rely on server storage and roles for access control'.
Today the connection to the As400 needed to change, it is now connected to another AS400 server. The packages have been modified to use the new connection. In the configuration file the old connection has been commented out and the new connection string was added, the connection itself was given a new more meaningfull name in the packages.
Running the packages from visual studio 2005 works. After testing I have deployed the packages to SSIS server in MSDB storage.
Now when I start the sql server agent job that runs these packages, the job quits with an error, in the history I see an error message that it failed to connect to the sql server with the given sql server user account.
When I the step in the sql server agent job properties for both packages, under the Tab 'Data sources' I see that it is using the new AS400 connection. I can also see the connectionstring for the sql server with the user id (but no password).
To make it possible for my packages to run (the users are waiting for the data) I have solved it like this:
- under the 'configurations' tab I have added the name of my package configuration file.
- i did this for both packages in both job steps
when I run the job , it works without problems.
Now , my question is: I have hardcoded the pathname for the package configuration file in my job. Instead of the package using the environment variable to find th epackage configuration file. I would prefer my packages , when in a sql server agent job to also use the environment variable. What can I do to make this happen?

Server Refuses Connections!
Mar 20, 2000S.O.S.
Today, my server began refusing connections for no apparent reason. I'm getting 2 different errors.
1. Server rejected the connection; Access to the selected database has been denied. (from one remote DSN)
2. Client unable to establish connection. (from another DSN)
It seems as if my server has lost it's mojo!!?? I have no clue as to why this is happening all of a sudden. Please help.

DTS Fails Coes It Refuses To Fill The Unique Id Colum
Aug 16, 2007THe unique Id column is set to identity seed. Yet when transfering 1500 records it fails to stuff them all becuase it says there is a NULL in unique id column.
"Cannot insert the value NULL into column UID column does not allow"
Yet in the transformation screen I am setting the UID column to <ignore> meaning I do not have that value in my source and I am wanting the destination table to do it's thing and incrememnt by 1 the identity seed.
Is this common?
THe source and destination tables are in the same databes.

I have a set of procedure and view in my Database HISTORY, then I define Grant the Execute rights to all those procedure for user NTAuthorityNETWORKSERVICE.
Then I have a second database named CONFIG where table might be accessed by store procedure of the database HISTORY. So first of all, in addition to set the EXECUTE grant access to my strore proces of database HISTORY, I need to set the SELECT grant access to all tables from database CONFIG on which are access by my storeprocs of database HISTORY.
First of all is it correct to set rights like this ?
Second, is there a way to set the access right of all my desire procedure in one shot ( script or something else ) becasue I have doen it manually and its painfull ?
If yes how to do that

Jun 19, 2007Is there a way in T-SQL to programmatically list all the articles? What I'm wanting to do is grab these articles and run this SP:
EXEC sp_publication_validation 'people', @rowcount_only=2, @full_or_fast=0
For each aritcle/publication, but I need a way to programmatically calculate the 'people' article in this case and pass that information along to the sp_publication_validation SP.
Is there a way, perhaps in system tables or system SP to accomplish this?

Where To Place Articles
May 30, 2006I have a design that includes articles that will be searched. Obviously its too slow to put them into fields, and impossible because some have photos or are otherwise html documents. So I want to put pointers to their location.
Two questions. For each deployment, both desktop and web, where is the best place to put the articles. In any folder, or only in an iis virtual folder?

AFAIK I have configured the source to pick up the dropdownlist value and the textbox value (the text box is autopostback).
Am i not submitting the data correctly? (It worked with a simple query...just not with this one). I have tried a stored procedure which works when testing just not when its live on a webpage.

Jdbc Refuses Connection With 'user Not Associated With A Trusted SQL Server Connection' Message
Jul 10, 2007When using jdbc with IntegratedSecurity, I run into this problem when the machine is not part of a domain & gets its IP address via dhcp. Is this expected behavior or a bug in the jdbc driver.
The SQLServer and client application are installed on the same machine and a local admin is logged in, running the client app.
If I change one of the two parameters mentioned above, the connection can be established leading me to believe this may be intentional for security issues. Am I correct?
Storing Articles In SQL Server
Oct 25, 2007Hello Everyonen and thanks for your help in advance. I am developing a conetnet management system to allow for the storage of articles within a SQL Server 2000 database. I am using FreeTextBox as the editor for users to enter articles. I ahve two questions. First, many of the articles are quite lengthy and including HTML formatting go well beyond 8000 characters. How should I go about storing these articles? Should I use a TEXT datatype, or perhaps split the data into more than one row. This leads to my second quuestion. Many sites that display article type data break the artilce into multiple pages with page numbers or next links to page back and forth. I am not sure hot to go about implmeneting this. Any help on this topic would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
