Snapshot Share Access Problems After Publication And Web Sync Wizard

Feb 6, 2006

Hi

I've big problems with my SQL Server 2005 Std. merge replication/snapshot share

I want to create a mobile application based on a ms sql 2005 mobile database running on a pocketpc 2003se.

for this task i installed iis, sql server 2005 std. and the sql server mobile tools.

i created a dedicated user for making snapshots in the new created and functionable publication, but when i start the web sync wizard, i alwas get the failurmessages

snapshot share "......" cannot be accessed, please specify a new share

the access permissions based on the share an based on the ntfs area are set right.

the user, i chose for the anonymus access (the same, as for creating snapshots), has enough rights on the folder. also when creating a new share, with different share name, and using another user for anonymus access (standard iusr_machine_name) i get the same message

do you have any suggestions for my problem??

please i need help as soon as possible

best regards

Recovery :: AlwaysOn Sync Share

I've set up a SQL server 2014 cluster with AlwaysOn availability groups. Upon creating the AG i opted for full syncronisation to a specific SMB share. Now i want to change that share because it has to move to a new server. How can i do that? I found no settings in the SSMS for that.

How To Pass A Parameter Or Value To A Publication From A Mobile Device During Sync.

Aug 5, 2007

Hiya,

I have a project that requires that I filter certain data going to the mobile device via the publication based on user selected value on the mobile device. (Filter by location based on the selection of the location on the mobile prior to syncronization).

Now, our current authentication model is Windows Authentication, and changing that to Username based authentication is not feasable, and using the users account to pass that value to the database is the only way I can think of to do this... (Then filter based on username)

But then I thought that there has to be another way - such as passing a variable or parameter to the sync request during or before syncronization... Is this possible? If I could query the data being sent back up to the server, for instance, I could do so to retrieve the value I need.... Any ideas?

Any help appreciated!!

The Snapshot For This Publication Has Become Obsolete !

Nov 21, 2006

Hi,

I am in need of some help with this error - I am seeing on my PDA units. Here is my scenario:

I have 5 PDA units that use merge replication with SQL 2005. These PDA units replicate fine. But when I try to sync a 6th or 7th PDA unit, I see the following error:

Source : Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Mobile Edition - The snapshot for this publication has become obsolete. The snapshot agent needs to be run again before the subscription can be synchronized. -2147198698

I know that if I regenerate a new snapshot, I will be able to sync fine. But here are my concerns and questions:

What happens to the first 5 PDAs when I regenerate the a new snapshot.
Will they be able to sync without losing the data?
Does generating a new snapshot, relinitialize all the subscriptions?

Am I missing the whole picture with generating a new snapshot?

Thanks,

P

6.5 To 7.0 Upgrade Wizard, ADMIN$ Share

Sep 28, 2001

I'm trying to run a two-computer upgrade from 6.5 to 7.0. In the Upgrade Wizard I receive the message "The Wizard was unable to connect to the ADMIN$ share on your remote 6.x SQL Server. Please verify that this share exists and that you have sufficient permissions to access it." The share does exist and the login should have sufficient permissions. To which login is this message referring? Is it the NT domain login on the import machine or is it one of the services on the export machine?

Web Sync Wizard On XP Box

Jan 14, 2007

I have (finally) successfully gotten through the maze and 'published' my database to a folder:

Physical path: I:SqlReplication

unc: WarrenassocSQLReplication

Since I'm running XP pro, I don't have the options of assigning specific read/write permissions to a folder.

However it appears the problem is with accessing the snapshot and the logon's there.

When I run the IIS Web Configure wizard I error out at the snapshot share permissions step (see report below)

Wizard Settings:

Click Finish to perform the following actions:

Modify a virtual directory immediately.

Copy the ISAPI dll 'sqlcesa30.dll" to 'I:SqlReplication" immediately.

Set NTFS permissions immediately.

The virtual directory 'SqlReplication' will be configured with the following options:

On server 'WARRENASSOC'.

Use 'SqlReplication' as the alias.

Use 'I:SqlReplication' as the physical path for the virtual directory.

Use 'Anonymous' as the authentication method(s).

Do not require secure channel.

Set user permissions to 'Execute'.

Clients can use 'http://WARRENASSOC/SqlReplication/sqlcesa30.dll' as the Internet URL.

'sqlcesa30.dll' will be copied from 'C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL Server 2005 Mobile Editionserver' to 'I:SqlReplication'.

'WARRENASSOCEd Warren' will get the following NTFS permission:

'Read & Write' on physical path 'I:SqlReplication'.

'Read & Execute' on the ISAPI DLL 'I:SqlReplicationsqlcesa30.dll'.

'Read' on share physical path '\WarrenassocI$SqlReplication'.

'Read' on the share '\WarrenassocI$SqlReplication'.

- Modifying the virtual directory (Rolled back)

- Copying the ISAPI DLL (Rolled back)

- Setting the directory permissions (Rolled back)

- Setting the server agent permissions (Rolled back)

- Setting the snapshot directory permissions (Rolled back)

- Setting the snapshot share permissions (Error)

Messages

The operation completed successfully. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80070000) (mscorlib)

- Modifying the Virtual Directory configuration file. (Stopped)

When I created the snapshot I used my personal logon (admin rights) at each step

I've tried all combinations of setting the permissions in the wizard from requiring a login and providing my personal login to no requirements and I get the same error.

I'm trying to set up to copy a database from my SQL Server 2005 --> SQl Server CE 31 RC1

to see it it meet my development needs.

I'm at a loss as to how to navigate the security maze!!

Thanks Edward Warren.

Problem After Applying Snapshot Publication To Subscriber

Jul 13, 2006

Hello all,

I have a unusual problem with a snapshot publication that I am having a hard time troubleshooting. The servers in question are all SQL 05 Enterprise. Here is the scenario:

Staging Server - This server acts as the publisher of the snapshot
Production Server - This server is the subscriber of the staging snapshot
Cascade Servers - These servers receive transactional updates from the production server

The staging server applies the snapshot to production successfully. From there the production server has a transactional publication which the subscribers are the cascade servers.

This model worked for a long time where we would generate the snapshot apply it to production and the updates would be sent to the cascade servers. All of a sudden there is a problem with the transactional publication from production -> cascade. There are 7-10 tables that do not receive the updates and all data in the problematic tables is truncated. The other remaining tables in the subscription receive the updates as needed. Looking at replication monitor and all other logs shows that the transactions are being replicated, but yet the 7-10 problematic tables do not contain any data. The only solution I have found for this is to recreate the entire replication model from scratch.

Any advice on how to handle this scenario? Is my model for using a transactional publication to cascade changes to a subset of servers incorrect?

Trouble Getting Snapshot Agent To Initialize Publication

Nov 16, 2006

I have been trying to set up transactional replication between an OLTP SQL Server 2005 Standard edition server and a BI SQL Server 2005 Enterprise edition server. I am using a pull subscription. I was able to establish the replication from the developement server to the BI server however when I tried setting up the replication between the production environment and the BI server, using the same configuration settings, I ran into a problem. The production server had been renamed after it was initially set up. I used the sp_dropserver and sp_addserver to solve this issue and was able to run the replication wizard. However once the wizard finishes the snapshot agent doesn't initialize the publication. When I look at the replication monitor it has a status of "never run". I try to run it manually and it appears to run for a few seconds then stops and still has the status of "never run". I don't get any error messages and can't find anything in the log. I am wondering if this is related to the server rename? I am hoping to find a soultion that doesn't involve uninstalling SQL Server and reinstalling since this is a production environment.

Thanks.

Sql Express Web Sync, Can't Find Snapshot?

Nov 12, 2007

I'm using RMO to set up MergePullSubscription to a SQL Express database, the server is running SS2k5.

The subscription gets created just fine, and web sync seems to be working, going to replisapi.dll?diag in my new virtual directory returns no errors.

When creating the publication on the server (using management studio for this) the snapshot is created, and stored in the snapshot share. Creating the publication seems to go without any issues. When I open the "Configure Web Synchronization" wizard, and point it to my new snapshot share, it ALWAYS says that the snapshot folder appears to be empty, which it isn't.

I get an error when I attempt to sync the databases that I believe is caused by Web Sync not being able to find the snapshot. Here's the output from triggering the sync via RMO.

A first chance exception of type 'Microsoft.SqlServer.Replication.ComErrorException' occurred in Microsoft.SqlServer.Replication.dll
A first chance exception of type 'Microsoft.SqlServer.Replication.ComErrorException' occurred in Microsoft.SqlServer.Replication.dll

That's it, always end up with "Cannot connect to distributor".

I'm using a free cert for testing, hence the non-FQDN name SandBox, but I have added the root CA to my machine, and don't get any cert errors when visiting the ?diag page in my browser.

Any ideas? I've been beating my head against the same wall for 2 days now!

Thanks in advance,

I'm trying to setup merge replication and get the following error from the snapshot agent after I've finished the 'New Publication Wizard'. How To Get Mobile Subscription To Sync With Dynamic Snapshot

Feb 8, 2007

Hello Everyone,

I have a publication on a Sql 2000 (SP4) server. This publication has dynamic filtering enabled. What I want to do is create an interface which will generate a new dynamic snapshot based on filtering input from users. So far I can create the dynamic snapshot easy enough and I can see the filtered results on a Sql 2000 subscriber. However, there seems to be no way to configure a mobile database to point to the dynamic snapshot. This is easy to configure in a Sql 2000 subscription - the options are right there are on the properties page. Yet, it seems like the mobile database only points to the required unfiltered snapshot through the IIS proxy.

Is there any way to force the mobile database to use the dynamic snapshot instead?

Thanks,

Mike

Web Sync: Strange Behaviour With The Snapshot Size

Aug 29, 2006

Hi

There's *strange* behaviour with snapshot size during subscription initialization.

So...

The initial snapshot has size about 9Mb at the publisher.

After subscription creation, I notice that the subscriber downloads about 21 MB.

It seems to me, that the snapshot is unpacked on the IIS, next, part of the files are packed again and just after it the changed snaphot is sent to the subscriber.

Why?

How it can be solved?

It brings some extent nuisance...

Thanks

Unable To Re-create Snapshot Of Existing Publication Due To Missing Publisher's Identity Range Allocation Entry

Jul 21, 2006

I re-created a publication that was having problems and it gives this error when I start the snapshot agent from SQL Server Management Studio:  I am stuck on how to resolve - any ideas?

"The publisher's identity range allocation entry could not be found in MSmerge_identity_range table.  Transaction count after EXECUTE indicates that a commit or ROLLBACK TRANSACTION statement is missing.  Previous Count = 1, current count = 2."

select * from MSmerge_identity_range returns 19 entries but I don't know how to fix.

I have tried deleting and re-creating but always get this error.

My other publications and subscriptions are working fine and I was able to create a new test publication that worked but can not get this one to work that worked fine up until today.

Access Denied Error Message Using Xp_cmdshell To Access Network Share

Jan 14, 2007

When running the following statement in SQL 2005, I get the error message "Access is denied":

exec master.dbo.xp_cmdshell 'TYPE \SERVER-BSHAREFILE.TXT'

The following are true about the network:

The SQL Server is installed on SERVER-A.
SERVER-A and SERVER-B are Windows 2003 servers on the same Windows 2003 domain.
The SQL Server and SQL Server Agent services are running under the domain account SQLSERVICE.
SQLSERVICE is a member of the Domain Admins group.
The Domain Admins group is part of the local Administrators group on SERVER-B.
The SQLSERVICE account has also explicitly been given Full Control to the folder referenced by \SERVER-BSHARE
xp_cmdshell use has been enabled on the SQL Server.

If I run the following command in SQL:

exec master.dbo.xp_cmdshell 'whoami'the following is returned: DOMAINSQLSERVICE
If I change the command to access the c: drive instead of a network drive, it executes successfully.

Can anyone shed some light on why I still cannot access any of the files in this folder using xp_cmdshell?

Looking For Best Way To Sync *.SDF With Access

Mar 5, 2008

Hi guys!

I'm facing the following Problem.

My c# .net Application consists of a Desktop Part - and a Mobile Part (Win CE 5.0)

The Desktop uses a Ms Access Database, the Mobile a SQL Server Compact 3.0 Database.

The mobile Database is a kind of "light" version of the desktop

e.g
Desktop DB,...
Table Component
Attribute

Component ID
ComponentName
Quantity
Info1
Info2
Text1
Text2 ...
Mobile Database
Table Component

ComponentID
ComponentName
Quantity
changeflage

So as you see there are less information on the mobile Database.

But anyway, somehow i need to sync these tables...in both directions.

My first idea was to create an OleDB Connection to the Desktop Database, and Fill a OleDbDataadapter with the table Content.

Then run throuh the dataset.tables[0] row by row... and insert or update the Content in *.sdf database.
and vice versa

I also thought about to add an Attribute named "changeflag" to the mobile database, and if i change the Contant of a row i set the changeflag to 1, so i know i have to update this line in the Desktop Database

My question is now, is there a better or easier way to do a synchronisation, without running through a Dataset und inserting or updating the Mobile Database row by row?

with kind regards
Thomas

Using SSIS To Access Network Share From Different Domain

Feb 12, 2008

Hey All,

This is my first time using the forums here nor am I a SQL programmer. I'm trying to help a coworker figure out how to access files from a network share (using a UNC path) from a different domain. Right now we have three domains - Production, Development, and the Local. There is a one-way trust setup with the development and local domains, so using cross domain accounts is easy. Unfortunately, we cannot setup one right now with our production domain to any of the other two domains. Is there a way to pass production credentials from our local or development domain servers to a production server share? Am I even approaching this in the right way? Maybe there is a different method, any help would be GREATLY appreciated!

Recommendation On Sync With Access And SQL Everywhere

Oct 20, 2006

I am re-writing an application for Windows CE which was originally written for the Palm OS. The original application was written in VB6 using access databases. I will be re-writing it in VB.Net and was considering using SQL Everywhere as it seems to fit the criteria that i need.

There is also an application written for the desktop that synchronizes with the mobile application. This also is written in VB6 and uses Access Databases.

I found the Sync with access CTP which i thought was exactly what i will need for this project. However i have a few concerns about SQL and Access and would like to ask a few questions before i can continue with this project.

I read that this Sync with access will allow me to synchronize the data between my desktop application and the mobile device application.

What will happen when we re-write the desktop application to use SQL?
Will i be able to sync the data between the 2 applications without using SQL Server? i.e. sync using SQL Everywhere.
If not, is there any way around it without implementing SQL Server.
I thought of having an Access Database in between the 2 applications to utilize the Sync with access component. Does this sound feasible?
Also, is it possible to Remotely sync the data without using SQL Server?

Thanks.

SQL Server Admin 2014 :: BCP Cannot Access Network Share

DomainBUser has a share on B that contains a BCP data file. DomainAAdmin has full access to this file.

If I log onto A (the server machine) with either DomainAAdmin or DomainBUser credentials, and run SQL Server Management Studio with Windows Authentication I can run BCP sucessfully using the following:

BULK INSERT [MyTable] from 'Bsharedatafle.tsv' WITH ( KEEPNULLS , KEEPIDENTITY ) However, if I log onto B, (the client machine and the machine hosting the share) and try to run the same bcp command, I get "Access is Denied".

Automatic Sync Between SQLce And Access

Feb 21, 2007

Hi,

I am converting an old eVB application to CF.NET 2. It's a very simple setup.
1) An Access database sits on the host and has occasional edits applied to it.
2) An application on the PDA with a mirror copy of the Access database (filtered data) and also has occasional edits applied
3) When the user puts the PDA in the cradle the databases get automatically synchronized with each other.

Probably couldn't get much simpler than this. This used to be very easy to do with PocketAccess and ActiveSync. Unfortunately this is no longer supported. I decided to use the new SQLce database instead when porting to CF.NET. It's working like a charm except that I haven't found an easy way to synchronize with the desktop Access application.

Merge replication seems to be exactly what I need but it doesn't work with Access or SQL Server Express. I don't need (or want) a full version of SQL Server. The dataset is very small.

ADS seems to point in the right direction except it doesn't support automatic synchronization. It also doesn't support Vista in combination with PPC2003SE.

Sync Services seems to have the same problems as ADS.

I have seen some third party tools around but they all require the user to manually kick off synchronization which I'm desperatly trying to avoid.

I've been searching for days now and I'm not getting any closer to a solution. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Cheers,
Thomas

Problem On Sync Access Database

Sep 29, 2006

Dear all,

I have a software written in C#, using RDA to sync access database from desktop. But it is tricky that some time during "Pull" data from SQL Server Agent, my PDA tell me "A request to send data to the computer running IIS has failed. For more information, see HRESULT".

This also happening when I try to unplug the ethernet cable from my desktop however the push and pull actions did not required to go through internet.

Here are part of my codes
m_intdb = new SqlCeRemoteDataAccess("http://desk01:1024", "Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source=c:\inttemp.mdb; Jet OLEDB:System Database=C:\Documents and Settings\user\Application Data\Microsoft\Access\System.MDW");

m_intdb.InternetUrl = "http://desk01:1024";
m_intdb.LocalConnectionString = "Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source=c:\inttemp.mdb; Jet
OLEDB:System Database=C:\Documents and Settings\user\Application
Data\Microsoft\Access\System.MDW"";
m_intdb.Pull("pulltest", "SELECT * from pullTest", "Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source=c:\inttemp.mdb; Jet
OLEDB:System Database=C:\Documents and Settings\user\Application
Data\Microsoft\Access\System.MDW", RdaTrackOption.TrackingOff, "Err_PullTest");

and the error message look like
A request to send data to the computer running IIS has failed. For more information, see HRESULT.

Please help me solve this problem

Best Regards
Tony Lam

SSIS Package Cannot Access Remote UNC File Via The Admin Share

Mar 6, 2008

I am developing a package to restore a database from backup file on a remote server. I am having problems accessing the remote backup file when it is addressed via the admin share, in this case N$. It runs okay if a specific share is created but for some unknown reason fails via the adminshare.

I am executing the package job with a proxy account that is a member of the local administrators group on the remote server.

It appears that access via a remote admin share isn't possible from within a SSIS package. Is this the case?

SQL 2012 :: Link To Download File From Filestream Without Access To Save Or Navigate In Share Folders?

Aug 19, 2014

Get a filestream download link with only access to read and with folder navigation

I need a link with the path to get the file stream blob, that path could be used to download a document using any windows app like windows explorer, etc. the requirement is that path does not allow customer to navigate in filesstream share folders or see other files and only can read the file of the path,

Checking :

[file_stream].GetFileNamespacePath(2)

Allow you navigate in folders.

NON_TRANSACTED_ACCESS read_only, resolve the requirement to disable the save in file table, but allow you navigate and see other files.

SQL Server Admin 2014 :: Cannot Access Path When Attaching Database With Data Files On SMB Share

Oct 1, 2014

I have a Windows Server 2012 R2 2 node cluster with SQL Server 2014 FCI installed. Data files are on a separate Windows Server 2012 R2 file server. Data files share has been permissioned to the SQL Server service and SQL Server Agent service accounts as Full Control. NTFS Permissions are Full Control.

When I try to attach a database
CREATE DATABASE AdventureWorksDW2012
ON (FILENAME = 'apricotmssql_VIOLETMSSQL12.MSSQLSERVERMSSQLDATAAdventureWorksDW2012_Data.mdf')
FOR ATTACHI get this error:
Msg 5120, Level 16, State 101, Line 4
Unable to open the physical file "apricotmssql_VIOLETMSSQL12.MSSQLSERVERMSSQLDATAAdventureWorksDW2012_Data.mdf". Operating system error 5: "5(Access is denied.)".

If I log into the file server (called APRICOT) and look at the NTFS permissions they all look good. I have also reapplied the NTFS permissions from the root folder down.

EDIT
If I log on to one of the nodes in the cluster as the SQL Server service account and navigate to apricotmssql_VIOLETMSSQL12.MSSQLSERVERMSSQLDATA and copy and paste the data file, it works fine.

EDIT2:
If I log on to the file server and Enable Inheritance at the root level, then Replace all child objects with inheritable permission entries from this object, I get this error:

User Account Control settings on all nodes and the file server are set to Never notify

Upsizing Wizard In MS Access

Jul 16, 1999

I have inherited some 4 SQL servers running 6.5 and 7.0

Some of the servers have MS Access Installed and some
have an "upsizing to SQL Server" wizard under the MS
Access TOOLS/Add-Ins/.

Some do not. I need to locate where this utility comes
from. I think it must come from the 6.5 or 7.0 SQL Server
Install CD.

Does anyone know for sure?

Thanks,
