Sql 2005 Import Data (indexes Missing)
Mar 12, 2007In 2000 i could import and select all objects and get the indexes as well but with 2005 i dont seem to be able to find any such option.

Import And Export Data Wizard Missing In SQL Server 2005 Express Edition
Feb 9, 2007After some weeks evaluating tools and platforms for developing an application, I decided to move to SQL Server 2005 Express Edition. Everything was fine till last night, when after creating my tables, I needed to populate them. I tried to find the Import and Export Data Wizard that SQL Server 7.0 and 2000 used to have, but great was my surprise when I found - in this forum - a post that said that it's not available in the Express Edition.
I'll have to move back in time (what I hate) to remember the way BCP worked. Can somebody post some examples to not start from zero ? Does anybody know a third party visual tool that can import/export data from text files to a SQL Server DB via ODBC ?
What's the reason it was not included in the EE ?

Import Excel Data - Missing Data
Mar 4, 2008Hello all, I am using the Import Wizard to pull in data from an Excel spreadsheet. One column in particular SQL Server sees as a float data type but it contains varchar data. So I change this in the wizard but some of these values are missing when I select * from Sheet1$ in SQL Server 2005. Any ideas why this would happen? I have formatted the particular column as text in Excel.

The project is a C/S data analysis system built with .Net 2.0 in windows environment, OS: Microsoft Windows 2003 R2 standard Edition Service Pack2, Database used in this project is: Sql server 2005. As a data analysis system, we need to load large amount of data from file to database, we do it by create a dts package and then do data loading by execute "m_Package.Execute(null, variables, m_PackageEvents, null, null)".
The problem is, we fount that DTS miss some data randomly sometimes, we can't find the rule till now. for example we've data as follows in data file, all data field splited by '|'

We found that some of the data field become 'null' after the load action finished, if we load the same data again, problem disappeared, we can't 100% reproduce this issue each time, we don't know why, Anybody here can help us to solve this issue or give us some clue?
Missing Table Data In SQL 2005 Standard

There has been a sudden loss of data in some (not all) of the tables in my database. I am using SQL Sever 2005 Standard with a simple recovery model for a single database. I can't find any specific hints in the logs to explain the loss, and this did not occur during a backup or scheduled maintenance routine. It seems the data just vanished at a specific point this morning, and I am not able to find out why. Do any of you have a suggestion that would help explain the loss of data in specific tables and not others in a given database without the known use of ROLLBACK or DELETE? Or do any of you know a way that I can look back in the server to identify what may have happened? Any help would be appreciated.

Memo Data Type Import Error While Importing Data From Access File Into SQl Server 2005
Sep 10, 2007I have one column in SQL Server 2005 of data type VARCHAR(4000).
I have imported sql Server 2005 database data into one mdb file.After importing a data into the mdb file, above column
data type converted into the memo type in the Access database.
now when I am trying to import a data from this MS Access File(db1.mdb) into the another SQL Server 2005 database, got the error of Unicode Converting a memo data type conversion in Export/Import data wizard.
Could you please let me know what is the reason?
I know that memo data type does not supported into the SQl Server 2005.
I am with SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition with SP2.
Please help me to understans this issue correctly?
SSIS Import Option Missing
Jan 31, 2008I want to start the SSIS wizard to import data from a flat file, but I right click the DB > select Task and the Import and Export options are not there. Is there something I have to enable before the options show up

Jun 14, 2007I installed Sql Server Express with Advanced Services. Created a new database. When I right click the DB, and select Tasks, there is no Import/Export on the task list. The drop down Tools menu has only three items, External Tools ....., Customize ..., and Options ... (I have the client Sql Server Enterprise Manager on this machine to connect to Sql Server 2000 on another server.)

Mar 19, 2008I am trying to import data from our as/400 to SQL server. We have a new server with SQL 2005, data is restored so now I am trying to convert our DTS over to SSIS but I can's seem to get a connection set up that will talk with our as/400. One note on our current sql 2000 I have no issues. Our sql 2005 is 64 bit, not sure if it makes a difference but thought I would mention it.
I am trying to set up connections so I can copy data from as/400 to sql 2005. I have a DNS set up on server called IPTSFIL which point to library iptsfil. I then need to create my source. There is no longer an ODBC option so I am trying ole db source. I created a connection but it€™s not working. In the connection there is a data link if I click on that I can point it to my DSN (IPTSFIL). But when I try to test it then thinks server name is IPTSFIL which is not the case and so it comes back with a port error due to that not being the system name. What am i doing wrong?
I read some people use data reader but I don't understand how to config that. Any input on how to help me get this working either using ole db or datareader would be appreciated.
I did test a client access session on server and I connect just fine. Also if I do a cwbping everything comes back sucessful.

Import Data On 2005, Many Errors
Jul 25, 2006I have a client who we moved to our new web server and sql 2005 server from a sql 2000 server. I detached the database from sql 2000 and attached it to 2005. I also just set the compatibility to 2005 also.
My client used enterprise manager to import data into the tables on the sql 2000 just fine. Now using the SQL Management Studio, importing the same table produces all kinds of error, truncation errors, etc.
I have played with a bunch of the settings, did the "Suggest Types" options, but I still just get a bunch of errors. It seem to get it to work I have to go in on the columns of the flat file i am importing and change EVERY COLUMN field to match the table i'm importing too. That is just too much work.
I basically have a 2 record text file i easily imported to sql 2000. but importing into sql 2005 proves to be a *** load of work! Aren't products supposed to get better with future releases? What am I doing wrong?
I've tried the sql native client and the oledb sqlserver client and get the same results.
Any ideas?
Import Specification Missing In Reporting Services
Apr 25, 2007I am using Reporting Services to create reports on an Access database. I am using the OLEDB provider to connect to the Access 2000 database file. Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0. When I try and establish a connection to one of the queries in my database, I get the error message below. I had copied the access database from a previous version in which the Import Specification below was used. The import specification is no longer necessary. How can I get Reporting Services to not look for this text file specification?

SSIS Import Wizard Options Missing

Hello all.
I am trying to import a flat file using the Wizard. That option does not show up. It shows up fine on my other machine. I installed 2005 Standard edition and they are still missing. I then uninstalled everything, rebooted and reinstalled Standard edition.
The flat file option is still missing. Any thoughts?

SQL Server 2005 Import Data Error

I am importing data from a database on one server to the same database (exactly the same table structure etc) on another server. I am specifying the data from certain tables on the source database which are completely empty on the destination database. The tables on the destination database each have a primary key column (Identity Specification = YES, Is Identity = YES, Identity Increment = 1, Identity Seed = 1, Not for Replication = YES). The import fails on the first table (YvGroup) whose primary key, "GroupID", is the foreign key within other tables (Relationship is set).
The error i'm getting is as follows:
Error 0xc0202049: Data Flow Task: Failure inserting into the read-only column "GroupID". (SQL Server Import and Export Wizard)
Error 0xc0202045: Data Flow Task: Column metadata validation failed. (SQL Server Import and Export Wizard)
Error 0xc004706b: Data Flow Task: "component "Destination - YvGroup" (40)" failed validation and returned validation status "VS_ISBROKEN". (SQL Server Import and Export Wizard)
Error 0xc004700c: Data Flow Task: One or more component failed validation. (SQL Server Import and Export Wizard)
Error 0xc0024107: Data Flow Task: There were errors during task validation. (SQL Server Import and Export Wizard)
I'm sure the most important error is the first one, "Data Flow Task: Failure inserting into the read-only column". Is this happening because i'm trying to import data into primary key columns that are usually populated by an auto incremented integer and is seeing it as read only? Or is it due to the relationship with other tables? In which case if you have a table structure set up with relationships how would you ever be able to import data?

I have to import data from a number of excel files to corresponding tables in SQL 2005. The excel files are created using excel 4.0. I have created an excel connection manager and provided it with the path of the excel sheet.Next i have added an excel source from the toolbox to the dataflow. I have set the connection manger, data access mode, and the name of the excel sheet (the wizard detects the sheet correctly) in the dialog window i get when i double click the excel source. Every thing goes fine till here. Now when i select the 'columns' in this dialog window or the preview button, i get this error

OLEDB Error While Trying To Import MDB Data Into SQL 2005

I am getting an error while trying to import data into SQL 2005 from an existing Access MDB database. When I try this on another workstation there are no problems and the data is imported successfully.
Could someone tell me what to look for or what setting I have incorrect. On the workstation with the problem I had removed SQL 2000 Personal Edition and installed SQL 2005 Standard Edition. Also, I have both Visual 2003 and 2005 installed on this workstation as well.

Flat File Import, Ignore Missing Columns?

I'm new to SSIS, and trying to automate data imports from text files. The text files I'm importing always contain a fixed set of columns, or a subset of those columns. If I include a subset of columns in the import file (and exclude others), the data doesn't import...I assume because the actual file doesn't include every column defined in the flat file source object?
Is it possible to accomplish this without dynamically selecting the columns, as indicated here: http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms136020.aspx

I want to import data from a few tables(not from all tables) in the live database into certain specific tables in the development database. The live database has the same name as the development database.After a few searches on google, it looked like the solution was going to be SSIS but it wasn't because i'm using SQL Server 2005 Express (with advanced services) which does not support SSIS.If any one knows how to import data across SQL Express databases please help. Import Data From Access 2003 To SQL Server 2005 Via T SQL ?
Oct 5, 2007I have a customer using a web app where the data is drawn from a database in SQL Server 2005.
In addition to its normal tables, the database has two lookup tables which are deleted, recreated, and repopulated once a week. The data for these two tables comes from two queries in an Access database which essentially turn many related tables into two flat tables.
I know this can be done with SSIS, I've done it, I suppose it could be done witth SSMA for Access, but could this operation be done with a stored prodecure ? Most steps would not be a problems. They would be:
- Drop the two tables in SQL Server (no problem)
- Recreate them (no problem, maybe better to just delete all existing records, either way)
- Connect to the query in the Access database (here is where I have questions)
- Simply do an INSERT from the Access query to the SQL table.
So my question is whether we can connect to an Acess query from a stored proc, I suppose using ODBC.
Can this be done? If so how? Are there any papers on this topic?

How can i fix this error?

May 11, 2008 i have a website project making an online catalog, maybe 20 categories, a few hundred items. the small business starter kit looked perfect to jump start this. the client has provided an access database with the two table for categories and products. i've got the dts wizard installed and have been trying to import the access data into the sbsk database but i'm stuck. i'm almost positive that ONE time when i was banging around with the dts wizard, the Edit Mapping screen would let me drop down a list of fields in the destination table so I could actually tell it which field data from the source i wanted to go into which field of the destination. Of course it didn't succeed that time and now i can't seem to figure a way to get back to having the option to choose the destination fields, all it gives me in the drop down is "<ignore>" or the field name of the source table, which of course doesn't match any of the ones that are in the sbsk.
i've been back through it for a couple days, trying different ways, migrating the data first to sql, letting it try a transfer to a new table then trying to import that, moving both out to excel, aligning the data manually and trying to import that, etc. i'm bout out of ideas and would sure like to get back to just trying to work out the data type alignment issues with whatever it was i did when i could choose the destination table's fields.
i'd be most appreciative if anyone has a clue what i'm talking about and can put me back on track.
