I created a package scope variable to use as a sql command for a data
flow task. But when I click the drop down to select it, nothing
appears. Anybody else have this issue and find a solution?
First let me say that I'm new to SSIS, so be gentle with me.
I need to extract a limited set of data from a very large view in Oracle (I know, yuk!). The view contains millions of rows, but I only need the child matches of 343 unique keys in a one to many relationship. In pure SQL the query would look something like this.
Select proj, tn, rn, total FROM Oracle.view WHERE proj in (select distinct proj from MSSQL.dbo.projlist)
As you can see, this is an impossible query on many levels.
My first thought was to get the runtime list into a variable and use that variable as a parameter in the Oracle OleDb Source. Alas, the Oracle source will not allow me to add a parameter.
My second thought was to use a script component and build a SQL_Command string into a variable with all of my keys included. Then use the read_write variable as the SQL Command from variable in the Oracle Source. My attempts to construct such a variable expression have failed.
i am using a OLE DB Source in my dataflow component and want to select rows from the source based on the Name I enter during execution time. I have created two variables,
enterName - String packageLevel (will store the name I enter)
myVar - String packageLevel. (to store the query)
I am assigning this query to the myVar variable, "Select * from db.Users where (UsrName = " + @[User::enterName] + " )"
Now in the OLE Db source, I have selected as Sql Command from Variable, and I am getting the variable, enterName,. I select that and when I click on OK am getting this error.
Error at Data Flow Task [OLE DB Source [1]]: An OLE DB error has occurred. Error code: 0x80040E0C. An OLE DB record is available. Source: "Microsoft SQL Native Client" Hresult: 0x80040E0C Description: "Command text was not set for the command object.".
Can Someone guide me whr am going wrong?
myVar variable, i have set the ExecuteAsExpression Property to true too.
Can some one please help. Lately I am getting an error: LAZY WRITER WARNING: LRU List is Empty
Than the system locks! can anyone help. This is driving us crazy. There is no reference in the KB. We are trying to insert records into a table by a SP.
I want to return a list of user tables from a database where the rowcount is 0. This will be a 3 step process: (1) truncate all 'New%' tables, (2) load data via ODBC/DTS into 'New%' tables, (3) list all 'New%' tables with zero rows (i.e. those that didn't get loaded, as all tables in the ODBC data source contain data).
I've tried: select left(s2.name,32) as TableName, max(s1.rows) as Records from sysindexes s1 inner join sysobjects s2 on s1.id=s2.id where type = 'U' and s2.name like 'New%' group by s2.name HAVING max(rows) = 0 ORDER BY TableName but of course there are multiple rows in sysindexes and the routine does not reliably return the correct list; for example the data in sysobjects & sysindexes, without the max and group by, might look like: TableNameRows NewARTxn0 NewARTxn1214800 NewARTxn1214800 NewARTxn1214800 NewARTxn1214800 NewARTxn1214800 NewARTxn1214800 I was hoping to come up with a single T-SQL statement that I could use in an xp_sendmail situation to email me the results.
I have an issue with connecting Excel to an analysis Services 2005 database. The computer is running Windows XP Sp2 and Office XP. I installed the oledb driver 9.0 but when I tried to connect with the pivot table and I want to create the connection, the dropdown list of the data provider is empty. I tried on another computer with Excel XP and the system is working fine. Is there somebody that could help?
The example bellow will receive a parameter.create procedure usp_InsertProducts@SKU varchar(30)Now how do I check whether is @SKU empty or not.Your help is kindly appreciated.RegardsEugene Anthony*** Sent via Developersdex http://www.developersdex.com ***
Hi, I have set of 2 DTS packages, one of which calls the other by forming a command-line (dtexec) using a Execute Process task.
From the parent package-> Execute Process Task-> dtsexec /F etc... /<pkg variable> = "servername"
Each of the parent and the called package have a variable: "User::DWServerSQLInstance" which is mapped to the SQL server connection manager server name property using an expression. The outer package has the above variable and so does the inner called package (which gets assigned through the command line from the outerpackage call to inner)
I "sometimes" get the following error:
OnError,I4,TESTDOMAdministrator,ACDWAggregation,{A1F8E43F-15F1-4685-8C18-6866AB31E62B},{77B2F3C7-6756-46EB-8C01-D880598FB4B3},5/22/2006 5:10:28 PM,5/22/2006 5:10:28 PM,-1073659822,0x,The variable "User::DWServerSQLInstance" is already on the read list. A variable may only be added once to either the read lock list or the write lock list.
Help would be appreciated!
I have seen other posts on this but, not able to relate the solution to my scenario.
In the code below, the statement 'Print @Sites' prints nothing, eventhough the cursor contains 4 records, and 'Print @Site' prints theappropriate values. Can anyone see my mistake? I developed an SSIS package and I'm using the dtexec utility to run it. The package has a variable RunDate (datetime) and i want to set this value to "" (empty string) when i try to run this package using the dtexec.
Currently I'm getting an error Argument option not valid. Thanks in advance
declare @user varchar(30) = '' if(@user is not null or @user <> '') BEGIN print 'I am not empty' END ELSE BEGIN print 'I am empty' ENd
The output should be 'i am empty' but when i execute this i am getting ' i am not empty'. even i did browse through but i don't find the difference in my logic.
Package works fine when run from BIDS, DTExec, dtexecui. When I schedule it, It get these random errors. (See below)
The main culprit is a variable called "RecordsetFileDIR" which is set using an expression. (@[User::_ROOT] + "RecordSets\")
A number of other variables use this as part of their expression and as they all fail, pretty much everything dies.
I have installed SP1 (Not Beta) on server. Package uses config files to set the value of _ROOT.
The error does not always seem to be with this particular variable though. Always a variable that uses an expression but errors are random. Also, It will run 3 out of 10 times without a problem. I am the only person on the server at the time.
Any ideas?
Cheers,
Crispin

I am using SSDT to deploy my database project. This project has a post deployment script and i am creating a new user in this post deployment script. I have used sqlcmd variable to capture the username. I am doing a null/empty check for this variable and my code looks like below.
IF (([$(UserName)] IS NOT NULL) OR ([$(UserName)] <> '')) BEGIN CREATE USER [$(UserName)] WITHOUT LOGIN WITH DEFAULT_SCHEMA = dbo; GRANT CONNECT TO [$(UserName)]; END
When i execute this, I am getting below error.

I am facing a strange problem in executing stored procedure. Basically my sproc will take a values from Java application and create a Insert statement. see stored procedure below.Just to give some more background- I am re writing the procedure which was written in oracle already.
Problem I am facing now is with the statement below . When I execute the procedure for first time it works fine however when I execute for second time onwards it is setting to empty. Not sure what is the problem with my declaration and setting up with values. For reference I have pasted my complete stored procedure code below.
Is there a command at the CLI or in PowerShell that will list the components installed for SQL? I'm looking for something like the Feature List you can get from running the discovery report from Tools in the SQL Server Installation Center program option.
I'm running SQL Server 2012 on the CORE version of Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise.
I have made the following test stored proc that all it does right nowis accept a string variable that will be a list ie. :5,9,6,13. Rightnow all the SP is doing is creating a temp table to store the values inthe list, then looping through the list and inserting the values intothe temp table, then selecting all the records from teh temp table. It's WORKING however i must have done something wrong because it's notinserting ALL the values. If the list is "5,9,6,13" only 5, 9 and 6will get inserted, not the 13. if I pass in the list like this"5,9,6,13," with an extra comma at the end, they all get inserted finebut thats not how the strings will be coming in. Here's what I have sofar:CREATE PROCEDURE sp_searchTaskTest-- in params@strAssignedTovarchar (200) = NULLASCREATE TABLE #tblAssignedTo (strAssignedToIDvarchar(10))-- initialize variablesDECLARE @lengthOfString intDECLARE @startingPosition intDECLARE @parseString1 intDECLARE @strAssignedToID varchar(10)SET @startingPosition = 0SELECT @parseString1 = CHARINDEX (',', @strAssignedTo,1)WHILE ( @parseString1 > 0 )BEGINSELECT @parseString1 = CHARINDEX (',',@strAssignedTo,@startingPosition)SET @lengthOfString = @parseString1 - @startingPositionIF @lengthOfString > 0BEGINSET @strAssignedToID = SUBSTRING(@strAssignedTo, @startingPosition,@lengthOfString)SET @startingPosition = @parseString1 + 1ENDELSEBEGINSET @parseString1 = 0SET @strAssignedToID = ''ENDIF @strAssignedToID != ''BEGININSERT #tblAssignedTo(strAssignedToID)VALUES(@strAssignedToID)ENDENDSELECT * FROM #tblAssignedToGO
I'm having difficulty passing a date parameter in a SSIS OLEDB connection to a stored procedure using SQL command with the error message "Attempted to read or write protected memory ..." and if I create a variable, I get the error "must declare the scalar variable..". Here is the OLEDB command: "EXEC dbo.mic_TGDrop ?" where ? requires a date parameter @ReportDate. Why does the call to the stored procedure fail? What would be the correct syntax of a variable to use SQL Command from variable? The SQL BOL does not cover this; is there another resource that has a simple example? Thanks.
Hi all, I have created a global variable and it will read the user input from a web application. How can i pass this variable into OLE DB destination SQL command so that i can retrieve the user specified table? Or is there a better way to do this?
select * from TABLE where user='jacky' ,it can working, but if like this: dim name as string="jacky" select * from TABLE where user=name it won't doing,Can a variable used in SQL select command,if can,how to make it working.
Using SQL Server 7.0, I am trying to use a variable string called from a form to perform a simple query.
Here's what it looks like:
[after submitting a form on the previous page with a drop down list box titled "fiscal"]
dim strYear
strYear = Request.Form("fiscal")
sql = "SELECT * FROM VENDOR WHERE STATUS = 'P' AND '"& strYear &"';"
[where strYear is the following: PYMNT_DT > ''12/31/98'']
Records exist that meet this criteria. If the PYMNT_DT > '12/31/98' is hardcoded into the sql statement, 12 records are returned. However, when the variable string is used instead, no records are found. Any ideas on how this problem might be fixed?
This is a really simple question. When I set my variable (the one will hold my SQL Command) property "EvaluateAsExpression=True", I don't get the option to edit the expression, I was expecting to get a little button that would open the "Property Expressions Editor" if pressed.
Am I doing anything wrong? Should I edit my SQL Command somewhere else and then Copy+Paste on my variable expression?
I need to pass a ServerName as a field to my query and I'm doing that by looping through a list of servers...
Description: The package path referenced an object that cannot be found: "Package.Variables[User::UserVarchar1].value". This occurs when an attempt is made to resolve a package path to an object that cannot be found.

I was not able to find the solution myself so here I am to ask you.
I'm using an Ole DB Source with the SQL command from variable.
My variable expression needs to look like this:
select * from dbo.fx_function (SomeDateVariable)
My sql server fx_function recieves as a parameter datetime, my variable SomeDateVariable is datetime type.
I tried all different types of cast on @User :: SomeDateVariable but I either can't evaluate the expression or I have errors trying to execute the package.
I read several posts on this topic and I would like to confirm my understanding.
This question has to do with parameterizing the select statement in the OLE DB Source editor. Initially, I thought I could use Data access mode: SQL command, and somehow use a user variable in there to build my Select statement.
But in researching further, it looks like I need to store the entire SQL command in a one long string variable (let's call it A), where A is built off of another variable that has my parameter. I then use A in Data access mode: SQL command from variable.
Am I correct? And is there not a way to accomplish the samething with only one variable that is your parameter value?
It seems a bit clumsy to store the entire SQL expression in a string variable.
Using Jamie's, John's and Rafae post i have got this far. My scenario demands me to do an incremental load. So i have followed your article and have created a one variable 'vDate' (Dataflow Task, Datetime, 3/3/2008) and another variable SourceSQL (Dataflow Task, String). I have set this SourceSQL evaluation to True and have added this; "select * from stagingperfdata where startdatetime = "+ (DT_WSTR,10) @[vDate].
I want to call this within a OLE DB source, so i select the data access method to SQL command from variable. My variable name is visible and i am able to select it and then save and debug. I also have a derived column transformation to increment the variable vDate by one day. The flow is successful but there is no records written to the target. I tried the same query (available in the variable's value column) in SSMS and it is retrieving 12 records. I went back to the Ole Db source and wanted to preview the data, but i get "Query timeout expired (Microsoft SQL Native Client)" error. Am i missing something fundamental?
I have a variable called @ORComm which has been selected using a cursor from each line on an order.
DECLARE TC2 CURSOR FOR SELECT [Commodity],[Total] FROM [CSITSS].[dbo].[Ordrate] WHERE [OrderNumber]= @OrdNum AND [Companydiv] = 'GLPC-TRANS' OPEN TC2 FETCH NEXT FROM TC2 INTO @ORComm, @ORTotal
I need to compare the resulting @ORComm against a list of valid commodity types selectable by
SELECT [CommodityClass] FROM [CSITSS].[dbo].[Comclass] WHERE [CompanyDiv] = 'GLPC-TRANS' AND [DELETED] = 0
