Hi,
What is the new way to transform flat file dates into SQL datetime datatype. Being average user in SQL 2000 DTS I would simply use "Date Time String Transformation Properties" and transform the date into the format I need, in SSIS I haven't found an elegant way of doing this.
My thoughts are to use €œdata conversion€? utilizing substring expressions€¦
Thanks the help

[Flat File Destination [46500]] Error: Data conversion failed. The data conversion for column "Column 0" returned status value 4 and status text "Text was truncated or one or more characters had no match in the target code page." What does this error mean exactly?
I am taking columns from a flat file source. Then I am adding some new columns then rewriting the file to a ragged file format with fixed column values. I've taken the Destination component off and it works fine. So I know it could be the destination component but what could it be? Any ideas?

It seems I can do the type conversion in two place:
1. The advanced editor for flat file source => Input and output roperties. And I can set the output columns data type properties there.
2. Using a Data conversion box in Data flow transformation.
Any difference between these two? Which one should be used?

Hi,
Iam trying to import data from a csv file into my table in SQL Server 2000. My table is called as temp_table and consists of 3 fields.
column datatype
-------- -----------
program nvarchar(20)
description nvarchar(50)
pId int
pId has been set to primary key with auto_increment.
My csv file has 2 columns of data and it looks like follows:
program, description
"prog1", "this is program1"
"prog2", "this is program2"
"prog3", "this is program3"
Now i use BULK INSERT like this
"BULK INSERT ord_programs FROM 'C:datafile.csv' WITH (FIELDTERMINATOR=',', ROWTERMINATOR='', FIRSTROW=2)"
to import data into my table in SQL server and it gives me this error
"Bulk insert data conversion error (type mismatch) for row 2, column 3 (pId)"
I guess i have to use fileformat or something since i dont have anything for pId field in the csv file to make it work...
Please help me out guys and please post a snippet of code if you have.
Thank You.

i have a weird situation here, i tried to load a unicode file with a flat file source component, one of file lines has data like any other line but also contains the character "ÿ" which i can't see or find it and replace it with empty string, the source component parses the line correctly but if there is a data type error in this line, the error output for that line gives me this character "ÿ" instead of the original line.
simply, the error output of flat file source component fail to get the original line when the line contains hidden "ÿ".
i hope you can help me with issue.
Thanks in advance.

Hi,
Basically the above is a very common requirement, please comment on my solution which I've arrived at by searching through the web; -
In summary I have used 3 SSIS components these are "Flat File Source", "Derived Column" and "SQL Server Destination".
1) File Connections Manager Editor
1.1) Within File Connections Manager Editor; -
Name the data type e.g. "INTERCHANGE_NET_APP_DATE_SRC"
and assign a type to the data type e.g. string[DT_STR]
1.2) Click on the Preview button to ensure the expected text is assigned to the expected data type.
2) Derived Column Transformation Editor
2.1) Assign Derived Column Name, e.g.
INTERCHANGE_NET_APP_DATE
2.2) Select <add as new column> within Derived Column.
2.3) Enter the conversion Expression, e.g. ; -
2.3.1)
(SUBSTRING(INTERCHANGE_NET_APP_DATE_SRC,8,2) + "/" + SUBSTRING(INTERCHANGE_NET_APP_DATE_SRC,5,2) + "/" + SUBSTRING(INTERCHANGE_NET_APP_DATE_SRC,1,4))
2.3.2)
Since the above conversion is such a common task I suggest that Service Pack 3 of SQL Server 2005 delivers the following functionality; -
STRINGTODATE ('YYYYMMDD',INTERCHANGE_NET_APP_DATE_SRC)
2.4) Select "database timestamp [DT_DBTIMESTAMP] " as Data Type.
2.5) Within the Mappings tab of the SQL Destination Editor have; -
Input Column as INTERCHANGE_NET_APP_DATE and
Destination Column as INTERCHANGE_NET_APP_DATE.
Please comment on the above, I will then pass on my suggestion to Microsoft.
Thanks in advance,
Kieran.

I'm trying to use Bulk insert for the first time and getting the following error. I think it might have something to do with my Format File and from the error msg there's a conversion error for the first column. In my database the Field is nvarchar(6) so my best guess is to use SQLNChar for the first column. I've checked the end of each line is CR LF therefore the is correct for line 7 right?
Msg 4863, Level 16, State 1, Line 1
Bulk load data conversion error (truncation) for row 1, column 1 (ASXCode).
Msg 7399, Level 16, State 1, Line 1
The OLE DB provider "BULK" for linked server "(null)" reported an error. The provider did not give any information about the error.
Msg 7330, Level 16, State 2, Line 1
Cannot fetch a row from OLE DB provider "BULK" for linked server "(null)".
BULK
INSERTtbl_ASX_Data_temp
FROM
'M:DataASXImportTest.txt'
WITH
(FORMATFILE='M:DataASXSQLFormatImport.Fmt')
[code]...

Hi Experts,
I am extracting data from SQL Server 2005 to flat file destination. I am using SQL Command to specify the data selection query. One of my query uses Replicate function to derive a column value. When I execute this package it fails with the error "Data conversion failed. The data conversion for column "value" returned status value 4 and status text "Text was truncated or one or more characters had no match in the target code page".
The reason for the problem is that, it is taking the InputColumnWidth of the flat file destination as 8000 and I specified the OutputColumnWidth as 4.
If I change the OutputColumnWidth to 8000, it is working without any error but resulting in the column width of 8000.
I tried using DerivedColumn Transformation's Type cast and DataConversion Transformation but still I am getting the same error in the respective Transformation components.
Can anyone suggest how to solve this issue.

Currently have a single hard coded file path to the SSRS config file which parses the file and provides the reporting services web service url. Â My question is how would i run this same query against 100s of servers that may or may not share the same file path as the one hard coded ?
Is there a way to query the registry to find the location of the config file of any server ? which could be on D, E, F, H, etc.Â
I know I can string together the address followed by "reports" and named instance if needed, but some instances may not have used the default virtual directory name (Reports).
Am I going about this the hard way ? Is there a location where the web service url exists in a table ? I could not locate anything in the Reporting service database. Basically need to inventory all of my reporting services url's.

Hello, I would like to convert some of the rows in a column that has a data type of int to a decimal. Should I change the data type of the whole field to decimal or numeric, it seems like no matter what I do I cannot get certain rows to come up with a decimal number even though when I run a cast or convert it gives me the correct number of rows affected when I look at the data it is still in int format. Although this seems simple I am not having any luck getting this to work. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Hi!
I have a Fact_ETL process with several Lookups.
I need to compare a ID-string datatype DT_14 from OLE DB Source to string DT_18 from Dim_salesperson. Then I would collect the ID's from Dim_salesperson into OLE DB Destination. Tried to convert DT_14 to DT_18 before Lookup. No, not working. Decimal[DT_Decimal] not working either...
I would be so grateful if someone could give an idea...

How else can I build this list of IDs? Thank you in advance for your comments.
