Jul 23, 2005Please help,I am trying to install MSDE 2000 so that Backup exec will run on thisserver. I have gotten so far as to find an entry in my SQLSTP.TXT filethat says that c:mssql7 was detected so the install fails.Now, to start with there is no directory called C:mssql7 on thisserver. I have gone through all MS articles on manual removal of SQLserver and instances. This week I was told to setup MSDE Desktop Engine on my pc bcz my Access back end db is getting bigger in size. And as a little advance step, I decided to put my Access back end on SQL server.
To be frank, I have no experience with SQL server but after reading the instructions, I have installed MSDE (latest version) on my pc successfully. A small icon of SQL server appeared nearby clock icon of my pc showing the SQL server is running on ASHFAQUEPC.
I shifted a Trial db onto this server in following way.
Considering the opened Trial db would be my BE, from the Tools---Database Utility---Upsize wizard, I followed below steps according to Upsize wizard.
1.I selected ‘Local’ server and check marked to ’Use Trusted Connection’.
2.And then I selected some tables to export
3.Kept all default attributes of db as it is
4.Selected ‘Let the wizard decide’ under data option to include.
5.At the next step ‘What application change do you want to make?
a.Create a new Access client/Server application.
b.Link SQL Server tables to existing application.
c.No application changes. (I selected this option)
Then it showed me the report of my db description of changes that were made after deploying it. The report I did not print bcz it was a trial db with one table (2 fields) and a simple query.
My idea was to connect my Trial BE with another one of another Access mdb file so FE would be Access and BE would be from MSDE.
1.Now I don’t know how to link my BE to my FE?
2.From where I can directly see my BE? Because SQL Server Service Manager does
not have any menu?
3.Where I was wrong in following steps?
Guidance in this regards is highly appreciated.

on running the setup I get a message showing that the following instance is not valid and it doesn't install the MSDE.

I have a big problem installing msde on an XP Pro. When I try to install (run setup), the process starts and when its nearly finished the progess bar goes quickly down.
There is no error msg or something like that. The event no is 11708 (msi information).
I tried setup with many differnt parameters SAPWD=.... Always the same: When quite finished installing, it ends.
I looked now for many hours in the forum and did not find any help.
Does anyone have a good solution ?

May 30, 2005pls help!!!I've tried to insatll the msde fr the webmatrix program,and have followed the instructions as said in the website.I aslo get all the screen shots showed on the site,but after 2,3 seconds there is a pop up error message saying,"The instance name specified is invalid".this is a software that I got through the book Sams teach yorself asp.net in 24hours(the accopmpaning cd has the webmatrix msde n some other software),they have said if we have questions about installing to ask this website.Need advice as soon as possible!!shelomi-colombo,sri lanaka.

MSDE Installation Problem

I am having a little trouble setting up MSDE.
I downloaded the most recent version of MSDE (sql2ksp3.exe) from the Microsoft site to my desktop.
I double clcked on the files to extract them, it created a sql2ksp3 dir on c drive.
I went to command prompt and entered the following in the c:/sql2ksp3/msde directory:
setup.exe DISABLENETWORKPROTOCOLS=1 SAPWD=**REMOVED** then enter.
The setup wizard started then finished after about 30 seconds.
I can't find MSDE anywhere as program just a folder with the original setup programs.
I know this is a total gummy question, can anyone point me in the right direction.
I didn't have MSDE or SQL Server prevoiusly on the system.

At the end of the installation, the machine reboot automatically, but I need to stop this reboot.

I've jumped over from the sister site xtremevbtalk.com to ask the question:
Has anyone ever seen an issue where when installing MSDE, during the installation the pc reboots of its own accord?
After the MDAC is installed as part of the installation the pc reboots and upon boot up, MSDE is not in the program files directory. Instead it's sitting in the C: root. This occurs for a straight MSDE install or with an Instancename install.
There does exist a Microsoft SQL Server folder in the Program Files but it is incomplete. It's missing the Binn folder. Also, there is no reference to MSDE in the Add/Remove programs tool but ther MSDE service does show up in the Services. However I cannot start these as they are pointing to the correct location.
To date, I have tried removing the instance and installation from the registry. I have turned off all AntiVirus software. I have ensured I am using an Admin user profile. I have tried a blank sa passowrd for the installation. all of this is to no avail.
I am seriously stuck with this now and I am in dire need of a resolution so if anybody has any ideas or has seen this one before, I love some help.

SQL MSDE Installation Problem

I'm trying to install MSDE 2000 on my WIN XP machine using the setup.exe, but it always gives me error saying "set strong sa password" after the message " Please Wait while windows configures Microsoft SQL Server Desktop Engine"
I also tried installing it by command line command below, it shows that its configuring and installing software, but disappears in the middle. I see the SqlServer agent installed and also folders inside C:Program FilesMicrosoft Sql Server folder, but SQL is still not listed in the installed programs

Problems With New MSDE Installation

I've a problem with connecting to my local MSDE installation. I'm using Windows XP Pro SP1 and logged in as administrator.
I've installed MSDE without further options (=setup SAPWD="password"). After that I installed some examples from Microsofts '101 Visual Basic.NET applications' using 'setup SAPWD="password" INSTANCENAME="NetSDK"'. Now I have 2 services running, 'MSSQLServer' and 'MSSQL$NetSDK'.
Then I followed the examples from a german book and created a Dataset etc. to access data from the Northwind database. The following line is created as SQLConnection1:

When I right-click on the SQLDataAdapter1 and select 'Preview Data' everything works fine and I could see 9 Employee records. But when I then start the application it could not connect to the server. The error appears already in the first line, a simple connection call:

Please could someone help me solve this issue? I already read several postings, here, on other sides, and on MSDN. I found information about a user account 'APSNET' which I am not allowed to implement due to security reasons. I also found the information about named pipes and TCP/IP, and so I added 'Network Library =dbmssocn' to the end of the SQLConnection-string, but with no success :-(

MSDE Installation Freezes
Feb 24, 2004I am installtion MSDE on a Windows XP Pro. The install gets through to 5 seconds and freezes. THis sits for about an hour and nothing happens. The Microsoft SQL Server folder is created, but the services are not created. We tried to reinstall many times and removed the registry key before each reinstall (after uninstalling and rebooting). Any ideas about what could be wrong?

i'm chanaka my problem is i had a wsus 2.0 version server, last week my server disk was full, finaly i was move the Wsus data to new disk.with all the contens. when i try to move the datbase it's give the error.
when i open the wsus admin console it's give the error message. and it's add the event log error also. this thing is giving to me big problems.

Trouble Upgrading An MSDE 1.0 Engine To SQL Express 2005

am making, I want to upgrade a user's DB engine, if they are still
using MSDE 1.0, to SQL Express 2005.
The upgrade path we have chosen is the following.....
MSDE 1.0 --> MSDE 1.0 sp4 --> SQL Express 2005
I believe this should work, yes? Anywho, I am trying to run a
"passive" install of SQL Express and I am using the following parameter

Sql Server 2000 Desktop Engine Installation
Jul 27, 2006I have SQL Server 2000 installed on my laptop and am trying to install an instance of MSDE. I keep getting the error message: "The installation of SQL Server 2000 Desktop Engine has failed. Please see the Getting Started manual for further instructions."
I have done this installation before on other machines. Something must be corrupt on my machine (?). The error message is not very enlightening. Any ideas?

I went in to add the component via the Add & remove programs and selected Microsoft SQL Server 2005.

I entered the path for the cd but only get the setup.exe for the components; sql mangement studio....
what is the path to install the Database Engine component.... inorder to load a new default instance?

Installation Of Microsoft Sql Server Desktop Engine Hangs
May 16, 2008During installation of MSDE the installation hangs at "please wait while Windows configures microsoft sql server desktop engine" I always end up killing the installation process. I am trying to install Windows XPe dev kit and this is the step I am getting stuck on. If I try to skip this step and setup the database the setup obviously tells me that i dont have sql 200 or MSDE installed.
The KB article http://support.microsoft.com/kb/811479 describes the syptoms perfectly, but fast user switching isnt even enabled for this machine and is not the source of the problem.
MSDE Installation Stops In Command Prompt

Then in in Command promptI enter C:sql2ksp3MSDE> Setup SAPWD=Hello SecurityMode=SQL The problem is that nothing happens after that. When I press enter another line appears C:sql2ksp3MSDE>but that's about it.The installation does not continue. Does anybody know how to "push" it a bit so it will continue?Thanks

Problems With MSDE Installation On Windows 2000 Professional
Nov 29, 2002I try to install MSDE as a new instance (SQL2) on my computer with Windows 2000 Professional, but a problem occurs and instalaltion does not complete successfully. I am an administrator of the computer. The application log contains the following errors descriptions:

The error message is "Setup failed to configure the server.Please refer the error logs for more information". No error log can be found on the machine at the time of installation. Please let me know if anyone else has encountered this problem?

SQL Server 2005 SP2 Cannot Be Installed Because The Database Engine Setup Remains In Suspended Installation Mode
Feb 23, 2007SP2 refuses to install for the Database Engine because €śthe previous upgrade did not complete€?, i.e. it detects a suspended installation. The same thing happened to me when I installed SP1. I then remember opening the maintenance dialog and completing the setup, after which SP1 installed just fine.
When I try to do the same thing this time, I€™m presented with the €?complete the suspended installation€? option, which when I run it reports the installation completed successfully. However, in reality the installation still remains in suspended mode for whatever reason. If I reboot and open the maintenance dialog, I€™m still presented with the €?complete the suspended installation€? option. I€™ve even tried to run it more than once, but it doesn€™t help. Needless to say, SP2 still refuses to install.
I don't know why the installation is in a suspended state. I know every part of SP1 installed successfully in the end, and the computer never crashed during the installation. I've been using it every day since then, without any problems. All other parts of SP2 did install successfully.
