Sql Output Syntax Problem

Oct 20, 2005

I try to get the following formatted result in transact-sql but i get some errors that i will give along the lines.

this is the required formatted report required:

The status for the position : Marketing Manager
Budgeted Strength : 100
Current Strength : 83
cRequisitionCode vRegion NoOfVacancy
----------------------------------------------

00002Texas11

from the to following tables:
Position Requisition
--------------- ---------------
cPositionCode(pk) char(4) cRequisitionCode(pk) char(5)
vDescription nvarchar(35) cPositionCode(fk) char(4)
iBudgetedStrength int vRegion varchar(35)
iCurrentStrength int siNoOfVacancy smallint

the following result return the various value based on the the given position,
i tried achieve this position by using a procedure.

the 1rst of the procedure is as follow:

CREATE PROC prcGetPositionDetail
@Pcode char (4), @Description char (30) OUTPUT,
@Budget int OUTPUT, @CurrentStrength int OUTPUT
AS
Begin
If exists (select * from Position where cPositionCode = @Pcode)
Begin
Select @Description = vDescription
@Budget = iBudgetedStrength
@CurrentStrength = iCurrentStrength
From Position
Where cPositionCode = @Pcode
Return 0
End
Else
Return 1
End.

When i executed the procedure, as 'exec prcGetPositionDetail '0002'', the Query Analyser return an error message concerning the @Description. I by pass the following error by adding executing the following procedure
'Exec prcGetPositionDetail '0002', output, output, output’.
But then it give a second error message saying that it is not able to "convert a nvarchar to int ".

This is the 2nd procedure that shall call the first one and display the desired format .

CREATE PROC prcDisplayPositionStatus @Pcode char (4)
AS
BEGIN
DECLARE @Description char(30)
DECLARE @Budget int
DECLARE @CurrentStrength int
DECLARE @ReturnValue int
EXEC @ReturnValue = prcGetPositionDetail @Pcode
@Description OUTPUT,
@Budget OUTPUT,
@CurrentStrength OUTPUT
IF (@ReturnValue = 0)
BEGIN
Print 'The Status for the Position: '
+ @Description
Print 'Budgeted strength : '
+CONVERT (char (30), @Budget)
Print 'Current Strength : '
+CONVERT (char (30), @CurrentStrength)
SELECT cRequisitionCode, vRegion, siNoOfVacancy
FROM Requisition
WHERE cPositionCode = @Pcode
End
ELSE
Print 'No records for the given Position code'
END

I wish that you help me to debug and optimize this Query.

SP Syntax Help - Return New Identity Value As Output Param

Feb 4, 1999

I have a stored proc that will insert a new row into a table
with the values of the parameters you pass in. I need it to
return the value of the ID that's generated by an Identity
column once the row has been written and that value has
been generated. If I just do a SELECT Max(), I could
accidentally grab a row written by someone else, right?

My current sp looks like this:

CREATE PROCEDURE sp_SaveNewLabel

-- @LabelID int output
@LabelType int
, @Logo int
, @Field01 char(30)

AS

INSERT INTO tbLabel
(LabelType
, Logo
, Field01)

VALUES
(@LabelType
, @Logo
, @PrintCC
, @Field01)

How do I grab the new LabelID (the column is int, Identity) and return
it from the stored proc. Any help would be greatly appreciated...

File System Task - Output File Variable Syntax????

Feb 7, 2007

Hi

This should be incredibly simple and easy, but I can't find any examples of how to do this.

I just want to make a File System Task move a file, and have the destination be filename + date and time. For example \serversharefilename02072007.txt

What syntax do I use in a variable to make this work?

Thanks

Incorrect Syntax Near The Keyword CONVERT When The Syntax Is Correct - Why?

May 20, 2008

Why does the following call to a stored procedure get me this error:

Msg 156, Level 15, State 1, Line 1

Incorrect syntax near the keyword 'CONVERT'.

Code Snippet

EXECUTE OpenInvoiceItemSP_RAM CONVERT(DATETIME,'01-01-2008'), CONVERT(DATETIME,'04/30/2008') , 1,'81350'

The stored procedure accepts two datetime parameters, followed by an INT and a varchar(10) in that order.

I can't find anything wrong in the syntax for CONVERT or any nearby items.

Help me please. Thank you.

Number Of ROWS Of Output Of Aggregate Transformation Sometimes Doesn't Match The Output From T-SQL Query

Dec 25, 2006

While using Aggregate Transformation to group one column,the rows of output sometimes larger than the rows returned by a T-SQL statement via SSMS.

For example,the output of the Aggregate Transformation may be 960216 ,but the

'Select Count(Orderid) From ... Group By ***' T-SQL Statement returns 96018*.

I'm sure the Group By of the Aggregate Transformation is right!

But ,when I set the "keyscale" property of the transformation,the results match!

In my opinion,the "keyscale" property will jsut affects the performance of the transformaiton,but not the result of the transformation.

Thanks for your advice.

Transact SQL :: Generic Store Procedure Call Without Output Parameters But Catching Output

Sep 21, 2015

Inside some TSQL programmable object (a SP/or a query in Management Studio)I have a parameter containing the name of a StoreProcedure+The required Argument for these SP. (for example it's between the brackets [])

EX1 : @SPToCall : [sp_ChooseTypeOfResult 'Water type']
EX2 : @SPToCall : [sp_ChooseTypeOfXMLResult 'TABLE type', 'NODE XML']
EX3 : @SPToCall : [sp_GetSomeResult]

I can't change thoses SP, (and i don't have a nice output param to cach, as i would need to change the SP Definition)All these SP 'return' a 'select' of 1 record the same datatype ie: NVARCHAR. Unfortunately there is no output param (it would have been so easy otherwise. So I am working on something like this but I 'can't find anything working

DECLARE @myFinalVarFilledWithCachedOutput
NVARCHAR(MAX);
DECLARE @SPToCall NVARCHAR(MAX) = N'sp_ChooseTypeOfXMLResult
''TABLE type'', ''NODE XML'';'
DECLARE @paramsDefintion = N'@CatchedOutput NVARCHAR(MAX) OUTPUT'

Output And Error Output Write The Same Table At The Same Time, Stall The Process.

Aug 30, 2006

Hi

I have Lookup task to determine if source data should be updated to or insert to the customer table. After Lookup task, the Error Output pipeline will redirect to insert new data to the table and the Output pipeline will update customer table. But these two tasks will be processing at the same time which causes stall on the process. Never end.....

The job is similiart to what Slow Changing Dimention does but it won't update the table at the same time.

What can I do to avoid such situation?

Thanks in advance,

JD

Using Output From A Stored Procedure As An Output Column In The OLE DB Command Transformation

Dec 8, 2006

I am working on an OLAP modeled database.

I have a Lookup Transformation that matches the natural key of a dimension member and returns the dimension key for that member (surrogate key pipeline stuff).

I am using an OLE DB Command as the Error flow of the Lookup Transformation to insert an "Inferred Member" (new row) into a dimension table if the Lookup fails.

The OLE DB Command calls a stored procedure (dbo.InsertNewDimensionMember) that inserts the new member and returns the key of the new member (using scope_identity) as an output.

What is the syntax in the SQL Command line of the OLE DB Command Transformation to set the output of the stored procedure as an Output Column?

I know that I can 1) add a second Lookup with "Enable memory restriction" on (no caching) in the Success data flow after the OLE DB Command, 2) find the newly inserted member, and 3) Union both Lookup results together, but this is a large dimension table (several million rows) and searching for the newly inserted dimension member seems excessive, especially since I have the ID I want returned as output from the stored procedure that inserted it.

Thanks in advance for any assistance you can provide.

Which Is Faster? Conditional Within JOIN Syntax Or WHERE Syntax?

Mar 31, 2008

Forgive the noob question, but i'm still learning SQL everyday and was wondering which of the following is faster? I'm just gonna post parts of the SELECT statement that i've made changes to:

INNER JOIN Facilities f ON e.Facility = f.FacilityID AND f.Name = @FacilityName

OR

WHERE f.Name = @FacilityName

My question is whether or not the query runs faster if i put the condition within the JOIN line as opposed to putting in the WHERE line? Both ways seems to return the same results but the time difference between methods is staggering? Putting the condition within the JOIN line makes the query run about 3 times faster?

Again, forgive my lack of understanding, but could someone agree or disagree and give me the cliff-notes version of why or why not?

Thanks!

Converting Rrom Access Syntax To Sql Syntax

Sep 23, 2007

Ok I am tying to convert access syntax to Sql syntax to put it in a stored procedure or view..
Here is the part that I need to convert:

SELECT [2007_hours].proj_name, [2007_hours].task_name, [2007_hours].Employee,
IIf(Mid([task_name],1,3)='PTO','PTO_Holiday',
IIf(Mid([task_name],1,7)='Holiday','PTO_Holiday',
IIf(Mid([proj_name],1,9) In ('9900-2831','9900-2788'),'II Internal',
IIf(Mid([proj_name],1,9)='9900-2787','Sales',
IIf(Mid([proj_name],1,9)='9910-2799','Sales',
IIf(Mid([proj_name],1,9)='9920-2791','Sales',

)
)
)
)
) AS timeType, Sum([2007_hours].Hours) AS SumOfHours
from................

how can you convert it to sql syntax

I need to have a nested If statment which I can't do in sql (in sql I have to have select and from Together for example ( I can't do this in sql):
select ID, FName, LName
if(SUBSTRING(FirstName, 1, 4)= 'Mike')
Begin
Replace(FirstNam,'Mike','MikeTest')
if(SUBSTRING(LastName, 1, 4)= 'Kong')
Begin
Replace(LastNam,'Kong,'KongTest')
if(SUBSTRING(Address, 1, 4)= '1245')
Begin
.........
End
End

end

Case Statement might be the solution but i could not do it.

Your input will be appreciated

Thank you

Query Produces Jumbled Output / Output Not In Sequence

Jul 23, 2005

Hi!Server info -Win2K3 Server +SP1 with 1 GB Memory and 1.5 GB Virtual MemorySQL Server 2000 Enterprise Edition + SP3 running on this.Required result -Create a SQL Script that will contain a set of create, update, insert& delete statements (about 17500 lines including blank lines) thatcan be run on different databases seperatelyHow we do this -We have a SP - that creates a temporary table and then calls anotherSP that actually populates the temporary table created by the first SP*Samples of both SPs are below -PROBLEMThe result is directed to a file -However when the query is run it runs through the entire script but'Jumbles' the outputRunning the same scripts on a copy of the database on other machineswork fine and the size of the outfiles is exactly the sameI have increased the page size to 2.5 GB and restarted the server.Running the sp now generated the correct output a few times but gotjumbled as before after a few more users logged in and activity on theserver increased.Another interesting point is that the output is jumbled exactly thesame way each time. PrimeOutput : Difference Between 'Output' And 'output Buffer'

Aug 12, 2005

When overriding the PrimeOutput method in a custom component, you get as parameters the outputIDs and the output buffers (of type PipelineBuffer). using the outputIDs you can get IDTSOutput90 outputs.

Syntax ?

Jan 7, 2002

Hello,

I am trying to create a view, but I am having trouble with the syntax (go figure!). It seems that as I reference more and more tables, my result set becomes smaller. For example, I want to return the state for all my customers then everything is fine, but when I want the state plus the site type (home, office, etc.) then I return fewer results. What is would be the correct syntax to use to return all the rows even if some of the columns have NULL?

SELECT TimeZone.LongZone, SiteMain.SiteNumber,
SiteType.SiteTypeDescription
FROM SiteType INNER JOIN
TimeZone ON SiteType.id = TimeZone.id INNER JOIN
SiteMain ON TimeZone.id = SiteMain.TimeZone AND
SiteType.id = SiteMain.SiteType

Sql Syntax

Nov 10, 1999

Excuse my ignorance. I have been reading and studying this stuff
but still some questions.

Table Datatest Table B
ID Q1 Q2 Output ID Field1 Field2
1 Y N
2 Y Y
3 N N

Everytime someone adds a record to Table Datatest I want that ID
automatically
added to Table B.
What is the best way to do that? Is this were I use a trigger and
an
update or is there an easier way? Also case expressions again.
How do I add the results from a case to the same table using a trigger?

Like: 100 for ID 1
223 for ID 2

SELECT ID,
CASE WHEN Q1 = 'Yes' THEN 100
ELSE 0 end +
CASE WHEN Q2 = 'Yes' THEN 123
ELSE
end as Output,
FROM Datatest

Thanks for your help

Help With SQL Syntax

Apr 18, 2005

Here is the scenario:
Table A has customer info (name and address)

Table B is a phone log table...a new row is created for each new call. In the table is a Date (when the customer was called) and a column named 'stage' that will be filled out either with the word 'follow up', 'dead', or null.

So the relationship from Table A to B is 1 to many, respectively.

I want to ask the two tables this question: Give me name and address (from Table A) and LATEST date customer was called, but ONLY if the 'stage' column says 'follow up'.

Here is the problem...Dr. Jones has three rows in Table B, his latest call was today, but stage is set to 'dead'.
His second line in the table was called yesterday, with the designation of 'follow up'.

When I run my query, I pull out the row from yesterday, since it meets the criteria of 'follow up'....but this is wrong, as I only want the latest designation of 'follow up' IF its the lastest date for this customer.

Here is my syntax:
SELECT DISTINCT
MAX(tableB.date) AS latestdate, tableA.CONTACT, tableA.ADDRESS1,
FROM tableB INNER JOINTableA ON TableB.ACCOUNTNO = TableA.ACCOUNTNO
GROUP BY tableA.CONTACT, CONTACT1.ADDRESS1
HAVING (tableb.stage = 'follow-up')

Please help...thank you

SQL Syntax Help

Jul 21, 2005

Here is my situation:

Table A has three columns (aaa1, aaa2, aaa3)
Table B has three columns (bbb1, bbb2, bbb3)

Common field is aaa1 = bbb1

I write a query that retrieves 3 rows out of table a
(select aaa2, aaa3
from table a
where (aaa2 = green) and (aaa3 = yellow))
----------------------------------------------------------
When I now create a left outer join onto Table b, and add one more additional criteria to the where exisiting ones(aaa2=green,aaa3=yellow) which is bbb2='white', I expect to at least see my original three rows of data (since of my left outer join), but now only receive 2 rows of data, since the third row does not have bbb2 as white.

Im confused...I was expecting to see three rows of data, with the bbb2 column being null for the third row....but instead I only get two rows of data...how can I write my query that will give me what I expected ?

Thank you
