I am trying to connect to an AS400 to download data to a 64bit sql server 2005 server. I am able to do this easily by migrating existing sql2000 DTS packages but how do i do this is in an SSIS project creating the process from scratch? and how do i incorporate activex transforms like you could in DTS2000 into the trasnform with copy columns?
Please help i am slowly turning grey trying to get this to work.

I am trying to replicate data from DB2/AS400 to SQL Server2005 (ENT edition) currently we use 3rd party tool to replicate data from DB2 to SQL Server2000 (ENT edition) and like to get rid of this 3rd party tool. I am searching for the last 3 weeks but didn€™t get a good starting point. I have linked DB2 to SQL Server2005 and can run queries against DB2/AS400 box. Now I want to set up transactional replication from DB2 to SQL Server 2005. I have read about peer to peer topologies but I don€™t know if that€™s the route I have to take?
So can someone please help me? I really appreciate your help.

I have a file in the AS400 with Chinese characters and need to dowload to SQL Sever 2005 daily.
In the SQL Server, I created a database and table which collection is "SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS", and I modified one of field which collection is from "SQL_Latin1_General_CP1_CI_AS" to "Chinese_Taiwan_Stroke_CS_AS" (( the filed data type is "nvarchar" and the length is 42).
That mean that field can display the Chinese characters correctly.
In the SSIS,
1.Craeted a OLE DB Source to get the data ( The field name is "CUST_CHINESE_NAME" and the length is 42) from AS400
2.Craete a Data Conversion to convert that field from "String" to "Unicode String[DT_WSTR]" (The new field name is "Copy of CUST_CHINESE_NAME")
3.Create a Data Conversion 1 to convert that field from "Unicode String[DT_WSTR]" to "String[DT_STR]" and code page is change to "950"(The new field name is "Copy of Copy of CUST_CHINESE_NAME")
4. Creatd a OLE DB Destination to get that convert data and input the SQL Server ( the filed data type is "nvarchar" and the length is 42).
When I execute that SSIS, I got the error message in the third step.

I'm having a problem with the server connection and my C# code. The code executes alright but no data is entered into the database behind it. I'm pasting the connection code over here as well. The sql commands are used in the code. I think I used the sql server mobile edition which is installed along with visual studio.net 2005. Anyone know what's wrong, and can help me out? I am trying to create a linked server in SQL Server 2005 to show tables in our AS400. I made the connection, however, the tables are not showing up under the Linked Server name.
How do you get the linked tables to display in the Linked Server folder?

I have an application which is under development in VS 2005 but the database is in SQL Server 2000. We are facing some strange problem with the connectivity between VS 2005 - SQL Server 2000.
I have tried all the possible ways or solutions i found when searching in google but unable to find a solution.This had become a major challenge for us now to identifiy the root cause of the problem

I am an application developer with an existing system developer in SQL Server 2005 Express and Visual Studio 2005.
I have installed the system I wrote at a physician's office, and it is working fine on a local computer utilizing XP operating system.
There is a requirement to allow other terminals to connect to this XP terminal to execute the application, so I am exploring possibilities for connecting remotely from the other computers in the physician's office.
I am running Virtual Machine for my client computer.
I modified SQL Server 2005 on my main computer. I enabled both TCP/IP and Named pipes in the SQL Server Surface Area Configuration utility. I also set SQL Server Browser to start automatically.
The local application is successfully connecting with the following connectionstring: Data Source=localhostsqlexpress;Initial Catalog=MedicalDB;Persist Security Info=True;User ID=sa;Password=thepassword
I realize that I would have to substitute the server name for localhost before I could connect from the application, but I wanted to first "connect" to the database from my second machine successfully before I began trying to connect from my application. I can Ping the pc that is running sql server express, I am able to "telnet" my pc that is running SQL Server Express.
Both my computers are in the same workgroup and there is no domain.
There are no aliases in my configuration, and there is no encryption on the server.
Ther error message I recieve is:

I have an application which uses ADO to connect to Database. DSN name is specified in the connection string used by ADO as part of the application logic.
This application is working perfectly fine when it is run from a Windows 2003 Enterprise Edition (EE) Server and successfully connects to a remote MSSQL 2005 EE Database installed in another Windows 2003 EE Server.
This application is working perfectly fine also when it is run from a Windows 2003 Standard Edition (SE) Server and successfully connects to the local MSSQL 2005 EE Database installed in the same Server.
But this application FAILS to work when it is run from the Windows 2003 SE Server and connecting to the remote MSSQL 2005 EE Database installed in Windows 2003 EE Server. Error returned to the Application has this description: "Provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server"
Can somebody give me more insights into the problem and help me in overcoming the issues in the last scenario?

We have an OLD vbscript process that is running on a Windows 2000 box. The box has Sql Server 7.0 on it (not sure if relevant). The process used to hit a Sql Server 2000 database, but that database was recently migrated to 2005 (on different server). Now the connection string obviously no longer works, and we can't even add a DSN to 2005 (does not recognize new server). The machine pings the new SQL server without any problem, but cannot connect for data access.
I assume there should be some driver that I can install to fix this, but have yet to find one on the web. Does anyone have a recommended download to remedy this?

This script runs under stripped-down Windows enviornment (Windows PE) with very basic components (i.e. no GUI, only command-line interface). I am trying to find out if there is any client side setting to bypass "self-generated SSL ceritificate" on server. I have tried all things on server side from disabling shared memory protocol, setting "Force Encryption" property etc. Could somebody help me with name of this property?
Also, is it possible to not use self-generate certificate on server. We don't want any kind of encryption for SQL connections.

We have a few SSIS jobs that we are currently manually kicking off after we are sure that certain AS400 jobs have run. We want to completely automate this process, so that we don't have to babysit. What is the most efficient way to do this? In the past (on SQL Server 7 no less) I've seen the 400 job setting a flag to 'Y' in a 400 file, FTPing it down to a flat file, and then the SQL job running every five minutes checking the flag. When it was 'Y', the SQL job would run. We do not have the option of using FTP here. Any suggestions would be appreciated! After the job runs, we'd like it to kick off a report as well

We are having trouble connecting to an IBM DB2 on iSeries data source in SSIS. In SQL2000 DTS we had no trouble connecting to this data source using an ODBC DSN. We have tried using the OLE DB providers for iSeries that comes with SQL2005. We are able to connect, but are unable to retrieve column information to use in mapping to a SQL2005 data destination. Has anyone successfully made this type of connection and data flow in SSIS? If so, please tell us how you did it. Thanks in advance!

I am facing a SQL 2005 SSIS problem.
I have an SSIS package that downloads some data from an AS400 and places the data into a SQL 2005 table.
I use Client Access ODBC connection as my Source.
When I run the package from Business Intelligence - Visual Studio, it works fine.
However when I schedule the SSIS package as a job, it falls over with the following error:

I created a SSIS package moving data from a SQL 2005 table to an existing DB2 table on AS400 using Microsoft OLE DB Provider for DB2.
When the package was run, it showed that rows were successfully inserted to DB2. However, the data didn't seem to be converted correctly. Most of the string values were inserted as unusual characters. Also any string values of digits were not inserted.
For example, 1.) a character field (char(1) or nchar(1) as I have tried both types) in SQL 2005 table with a simple value of 'H' was inserted into the DB2 table field of type "A" (alphanumeric) of length 1 as 'ç' and others letters were inserted as other unusual characters. 2.) A string value of '00100' in SQL Server is not inserted to DB2 table at all.
Later we found that the fields inserted with usual characters are difined as CSSID =65535. A few fields with correct data inserted have CSSID=00037.
Does anyone know why this happened and how to solve this to get the data inserted correctly in the DB2 table?

I'm trying to get data from AS400. using OLEDB source as my connection. i'm using IBM OLEDB provider for iSeries. and working on standard edition of SQL Server 2005.
While using OLEDB source task when i set my access mode to 'table or view' and try to see list of available libraryname.tablenames, i do not get and tables
where as when i use Data access mode as 'SQL Command' i can get data (can only see preview of data) from AS400 but not able to insert that into my destination table. At run time task Fails with the error mentioned below.
I have configured Data links tab inside the OLEDB connection manager also, but when tried to set a default library it gives me error. : "Error code :CWBZZ5042" - ( catalog is invalid ) but it does exist.
Is there some settings that needs to be done from AS400 side or SQL Server side to view the available libray and its tables ?
Can some one help me on the same.

I have developed an SSIS Package which uses an ODBC connection to an AS400 iseries stored procedure. I use an Execute SQL Task. The query is Call Doctrack.PubFeed(?,?,?,?). The procedure takes 2 input parameters and 2 output parameters (3rd and 4th parameters) The data types of the output parameters are an integer and varchar.  As part of the procedure data is inserted into a table on the iseries.Â
When I run the package using breakpoints to view the values of the variables I see that the stored procedure returns values for the output parameters and the execute SQL task is a success and proceeds to the next task in the package. The whole package ends successfully.However, when the table on the iseries is checked nothing has been inserted into it. To test further, I manually run the procedure on the iseries using the same parameters. The run is successful. And when the table is checked, there are in fact new rows inserted.
What can possibly be the issue since I am not getting any errors when I run the package? Oh I should add that prior to the execute Sql Task, there is a data flow task which moves data from a SQL Server database to a table on the iseries (successfully) using the same ODBC connection. The execute sql tasks uses that information for the Stored procedure.
I was trying to set up a replication process to move data from SQL 2005 to DB2/AS400.
To get it started, I have create a simplest table (say, PERSON) on SQL 2005 server, and the same table (PERSON) on DB2/AS400. I have only one column SSN (of type int). I have journaled the table on DB2 end. I was able to have successfully configured publisher (on SQL 2005) and subscriber (i.e. a pushed subscription). I used transactional replication. And I also installed HIS 2004 to have DB2OLEDB ready. I was able to use query/insert/delete against table on DB2 based the linked server (that I created for testing purpose).
I did a lot of reading on this and my impression is that replicating to DB2/AS400 is supported from SQL 2005. But I always have this error from replication monitor. Can anyone enlighten me what was wrong.

I am creating a migration tool that retrieves data from an AS400 and an SQL 7 server to create a new database in SQL 2005. I have managed to create a linked server in SQL 2005 to the AS400. I don't know if it works or not. I've been trying to create a linked server to the SQL 7 server with no luck. The AS400 and SQL servers are on the same network. The SQL 2005 server is hosted somewhere else. I have access to everything. The SQL 2005 server is running Workstation. I tried to use Integration Services but finally discovered it was unavailable to Workstation.
I could use some good ideas or help.
I have a simple SSIS package that I want to move data from SQL 2005 to DB2/AS400. In order to use OLEDDB destination, I installed HIS2004 that provides DB2OLEDB support.
For simplicity and testing purpose, I created a connection pointing to a SQL table that contains only one ccolumn "last_name" of type "nvarchar(50)". This is my source, I then created another connection using DB2OLEDB pointing to a table on DB2 that contains only one field "name" of type "GRAPHIC(50)". This is my destination and the connection works fine to DB2 database. When I run the package, it has type conversion error as follows:

Source: "Microsoft DB2 OLE DB Provider" Hresult: 0x80040E07 Description: "Data or literal value could not be converted to the type of the column in the data source, and the provider was unable to determine which columns could not be converted. Data overflow or sign mismatch was not the cause.".
If I manually assign a vaule to the "last_name" using the "Derived Column" task like "Hello John", it just works fine.
Anyone knows what went wrong? Did I miss anything here? Thanks.

I am trying to send a file from SQL 2005 back to our AS400 DB2 db. First time trying to get this to work in SSIS.
I have a couple fields that are datetime in SQL Server and see SQL server sees datetime fields from DB2 as string so I am converting them to Strings using derived columns. That part seems to work fine. Get no errors on that part.
The conversions seem like they are working but it is faling when it tries to send it to as/400. I get the following error: any ideas on what is wrong?

I want to Import data from AS400 to Sql2005. From the Sql Management studio I invoke the Import Data wizard. For the source I connect to the ISereis system and for the Destination I select the Sql2005 Database , When I go to the next step i.e select source tables I get the error
"An error has occured which the SQL Server Integration Wizard was not prepared to handle

I am attempting to connect directly to an instance of sql 2005 from the VS Pocket PC emulator running Mobile 5.0. I have installed AtiveSync 4.0 and successfully cradled the device to establish connectivity to the internet. I have also successfully browsed to the IP of the server that i is running sql 2005. I am able to populate a datagrid via a stored procedure resultset which accepts no parameters. When attempting to pass variables into a stored procedure a SqlException was thrown stating that the procedure excpects these parameters. I have successfully built the app and ran the executable from my local machine and successfully passed these parameters to the procedures. I dont know what the problem could be. Any help would be of great assistance, this problem has halted productivity.
