Sql Server 2005 Dev Edition Error - Unexpected Error While Updating Installed Files
Feb 14, 2007
I am attempting to install SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition onto a Windows XP Pro SP2 machine, but unfortunately each time that I attempt to install I receive an error message in the summary log as follows:
Product : Microsoft SQL Server 2005
Product Version: 9.00.1399.06
Install : Failed
Log File : C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL Server90Setup
Last Action : InstallFinalize
Error String : The setup has encountered an unexpected error while Updating Installed Files.
The error is : Fatal error during installation.
Error Number : 29528
There is probably a simple solution for the issue but unfortunately I am unaware of what it is? I can€™t tell if the issue is specific to registry settings, security, file types, etc€¦ The information below surrounds the error w/in the log, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated?
The value returned is -2147024891

I'm currently receiving the following error message whilst attempting to install SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition on Windows Server 2003 (32 Bit): Error 29528. The setup has encountered an unexpected error while Installing performance counters. The error is: The system cannot find the file specified.
This server already has an install of SQL Server 2000 as the default instance. I'm attempting to install a new named instance of SQL Server 2005.

You can ignore this and it will complete the installation, but subsequently trying to patch with SP2 will fail on the same sections - Hotfix.exe crashes whilst attempting to patch Database Services, Integration Services and Client Components (3 separate crashes).
I've removed SQL Server 2005 elements and tried to re-install, but it's not improved the situation.
I was trying an edition upgrade from SQL 2005 standard x64 to SQL 2005 enterprise x64 using the "setup SKUUPGRADE=1" from the command line. The SO is W2003 server R2 enterprise and I have a SQL clustered environment with 2 nodes (active/passive).
I select to upgrade the SQL module and I mark the checkbox for the cluster installation. The installation seems to work properly untill setup is doing the task "removing backup files". Then 2 "unexpected error" message appears as follows. The 2 above windows appear when you click on the help icon.

The following is the end of the SQL setup log file:
Hi. I've been trying to install Sql Server 2005 express on Vista Home Premium. After the initial files install, I get an error message that says the WMI configuration is not correct. (I'm not at home, so I can't post the exact error code at the moment). Does anyone have any ideas on how I can fix this? Thanks in advance.
I am trying to install SQl Server 2005 SP2 but it was throwing an unexpected error when trying to install "setup support files".

I am attempting to upgrade a 2005 Standard Edtion to Enterprise Edition. This is a default instance. All components are upgraded successfully except the Database Engine. I receive the following error:
SQL Server Setup has encountered the following problem: [Microsoft][SQL Native Client][SQL Server]The certificate cannot be dropped because one or more entities are either signed or encrypted using it.. To continue, correct the problem, and then run SQL Server Setup again.
This installation does not have encryption enabled, so I do not undersand the error or how to correct it.
After rebooting the SQL instance appears to be upgraded to Enterprise, but it cannot be upgraded to SP2.
I installed sql server 2005, but the installed program report error. I copy it at the line below. And I have use strong password, and I have installed the .net framework 2.0 before I installed sql server 2005. But the error is the same.
title: Microsoft SQL Server Setup ------------------------------
SQL Server Setup failed to obtain system account information for the ASPNET account. To proceed, reinstall the .NET Framework, and then run SQL Server Setup again.
help info: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink?LinkID=20476&ProdName=Microsoft+SQL+Server&ProdVer=9.00.1399.06&EvtSrc=setup.rll&EvtID=SQLSetup90&EvtType=28126
I am using snapshot replication to copy data from one database to another. I truncate the destination table first. The publisher and the subscriber are different databases on the same server. The data turns into 1 unrecognizable row.
Here is what the source table looks like: displayTypeID, displayType 1, Title List Formats 2, Title Details 3, Title List Export 4, Pricing Notes 5, clone Mask 001 6, clone Mask 002 7, clone Mask 004 8, clone Mask 008 9, hide From Admin 10, not Common Attr 11, Insert Title 12, title Types
The resulting data looks like this: DisplayType, displayTypeId , 1660953600 I see no errors in replication and nothing in the source table looks like bad data that could cause such a malady. I see the problem on two different servers now and identified the source of the problem, the column order is reversed in the source and destination tables. The data types do not even match so I would at the very least expect an error from bcp.
I created a mdf file but couldnt for the life of me install it into SQL Sever Express [and when I say install i mean attach]. When I used SQL Server Ent, I had no issues. The only warning I got was that my mdf file was used by another process when I tried to attach with VS 2005 [ which is correct because ent had it]. I think mdf files are pretty touchy. Does anyone have any good articles on best practices? It seems you cant have a db with the same name as your attachment [ which would make sense] or have mdf files in the Data directory of your SQL Server instance you are trying to attach to. You will get the unc share error if you do. I think I need to start using user Instances but I could be wrong. You cant use them in ent but maybe i will solve my issue with attaching db files to express. I noticed that by default express doesnt install in mix auth mode and there might be some issues with access. How does everyone else normally install their mdf files for quick deployment [ say you want to deploy your db with your app so that users can quickly get started] ?
I am a newbie to sql server 2005 (developer edition). Now I installed both sql server and VS 2005 professional edition on my machine.
I just what to know how and where should I create a mdf file on my server or .net window project because I try to combine to it from a window application. Should I use the sql server management studio or the Visual Studio 2005 ? What is the generate steps to create one?
I am completely confused. Please help me, I cannot find related on line source.
what can cause the above error when connecting to an endpoint via a c# app? the app, and sql are both on my machine ( im just doing this for test purposes and to learn something new.)
I've got this error coming up while running the sql job for AS processing. I can't find anything about it on google or anywhere else. Has anyone had issues like this?

First off I understand that it is a horrible idea to run extremely large/long running reports, but sometimes it ends up being the best possible solution due to external forces.
I've got a 25,000 page report that we recently converted from crystal reports to SSRS. The SSRS server is a 64bit 2003 server with 32 gigs of ram running SSRS 2005. When running the report through the report manager web application, it renders in the browser/viewer after about 12 minutes. Exporting to pdf through the browser/viewer in the report manager takes an additional 55 minutes. It does work and it produces a whopping 1.03gb pdf.
Unfortunately, I've run into a problem when trying to do this from a console application using the SSRS client API. After about 30-35 minutes I get an exception on the client with the following error: Exception Message: The underlying connection was closed: An unexpected error occurred on a receive. InnerException = Unable to read data from the transport connection: An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host.
Here is the api call:
Code Snippet
byte[] m_data = reportingService.Render(this.ReportPath, this.ExportFormat, null, deviceInfo, selectedParameters, null, null, out encoding, out m_mimeType,
out usedParameters, out warnings, out streamIds); Here are some things I've tried so far:
set the HttpRuntime ExecutionTimeout value to 3 hours on the report server disabled http keep alives on the report server increased the script timeout on the report server set the report to never time out on the server set the report timeout to several hours on the client call Disabled antivirus on the client side, and verified there was no antivirus running on the reporting server. Tried using default credentials in the ReportingService object as opposed to supplying credentailsAny ideas would be appreciated. I understand the best solution is to split the report up into smaller reports, which is the backup option, but being able to keep it as one report is the goal.

I am installing on Windows XP with Admin privs.
There is nothing listed in COM+ Services for SQL.
The Distributed Transaction Coordinator service is running.
There is a previous installation of SQL 2000 Developer Edition installed.
I have seen some pretty old posts with the same error.
I was wondering if there was a final resolution, service pack, etc. that solves this problem?

Hi, We are running one shopping site for our organisation, which includes Tomcat 5.0.28 , IIS & SQL Server 2000 SP3 hosted on platform Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Ed. , we are running jsp pages server side and site is hosted on internet, but it is observed that after every 1/2 days , page will throw following exception, and site get blocked.
javax.servlet.ServletException: Network error IOException: No buffer space available (maximum connections reached?) : connect
Can anybody help please?
I am beginner with JDBC - SQL Server Connectivity ,
I am giving our configuration details:
Driver Used - Microsoft SQL Server Driver 2000 SP3
Protocol Used - TCP/IP which open socket connection on default port 1433
Authentication - Mix Mode Authetication ( using sa account login)
Even setting done within LOCAL instance running on server to allow max. connections i.e 32767
My observation is that some kind of virus threat may causing this error, because if server will be rebooted, we doesn't

I have a distributed environment with SQL Server 2005 SP2 (RTM) running on one server. This server holds the databases for SharePoint and Reporting Services. I then have SharePoint 3.0 (32-bit version) with the reporting services add-in installed on a second server. I installed the sharepoint object model (64-bit version) on the database server as suggested and have configured Reporting Services to use domain user accounts. The Reporting Services configuration tool is reporting that integration has been successfully set up but I am unable to access the "Set Server Defaults" page without an error. This is the error I receive:
An unexpected error occurred while connecting to the report server. Verify that the report server is available and configured for SharePoint integrated mode.
I was successfully able to installing sql server 2005 developer edition all peices except the "Workstation Component, Book Online, Development Tool", the last item in the installation list. It gave errror for bad sql.cab file. Although this developer edition came directly of the box this error came up in many attempts. Upon "Ignore" it gives error 2350.
I am able to run sql server's all the services and able to access it via VS.Net server browser. I can create and change tables etc. but there is no "Management Studio" installed. There is no icon for it either on the desktop or in the Start->SQL Server 2005 menu.
Is it possible to get and copy sql.cab file or entire client component from somewhere else? --Freed download or something? I searched for sql.cab file but it was not in the CD. It could be inside some other file or cmpressed.
I am trying to get SQL Express 2005 installed, I have tried this on two PC's within the Domain. Both get the same error. I am the Admin, MCSE since 1999, but I DO NOT know much about SQL. Have search Google for two days, renamed DLL's, installed localy, copied off the CD, update .net, windows updates.... The PC will load SQL 2005 (full version) and 2000, but the app doesnt seem to want anything but the Express version... any ideas would help...
